I came here for dinner on Sunday night. It wasn't crazy busy that night. I saw omakase style with 5 courses meal on the menu. Starter was mozuku-su with shoga and vinegar. I loved it. 2nd around was abalone, salmon saikyo, kaki fried. It was very good presentation, pretty good portion. Main was 10pices chef choice sushi and toro hand roll. It was fantastic ! All the fish came from Japan and so fresh! You can choose ice cream flavor for dessert. The chefs and sever were super friendly. If you order sushi, take a seat by sushi bar, they will tell you what you get for fresh sushi. I will definitely going back to sun sushi. read more

Had another great experience at Sun Sushi last night, so I can confirm that there actually is good sushi in SB... finally. The box sushi was really good, we considered ordering a second order of it. The albacore was so fresh, we got it in sushi form as well as roll form. Good edamame too, which is always a good sign for a sushi restaurant (how can you make good sushi if you can't even make good edamame?). The spicy tuna on crispy rice was 4/5 stars, I've had better but it was good and would order again. read more

Incredible food, incredible service. The men behind the bar were professional, engaging, and talented. The servers were prompt, attentive, but not invasive. We had several rolls, all of which were incredible. The Toro Mexico was delightful. Excellent sake selection (we had the Dassai 50) as well as the Shochu. I would absolutely recommend going here. Won't eat here again. I ordered an avocado roll and what they served me was shocking. The avocado was brown and black (literally) all over. It was so gross I had to send it back, and you know it's bad if you have to send avocado back. My thought is if they'd serve me avocado this way, what's up with my spicy tuna roll?? My favorite sushi place in town for fresh fish that's priced just right. I am very picky with my sushi and having lived in Japan, I am very used to a certain quality of fish! I've come to enjoy some other sushi restaurants in town but I find that most other restaurants tend to be very pricey and not affordable if you like to eat quality sushi often. I can honestly put Sun above many other restaurants in town in terms of how much quality fish you get with your sushi. I can't speak on behalf of the rolls since I usually only order the sushi, but I have enjoyed other appetizers that are delicious too. Service is wonderful and I've always felt very welcomed in there. I love recommending this place to anyone who appreciates sushi! read more

Food was great, service was great, this place is great. Ive been to Sun sushi twice and this most recent visit was really great. I was a little worried about going here since the last time I ate here over a year ago, the restaurant seemed to be going through some repairs and it was very hot in there. This time they have an updated decor with a bamboo wall (with signs that say don't touch) and overall the setup in there looks better. Any who, I went on a Friday night and I did not have a reservation--didn't think I needed one but I would suggest you make s reservation if you know you want to dine here. I had a relatively short 30 minute wait to get seated and while I was waiting the staff was friendly and attentive. We had three different special rolls and all were great. We started with the shrimp tempura roll, then the tiger roll, and finally with the sun roll. All were excellent but the one that really stood out was the tiger roll--you could taste the freshness. We ended up ordering a spicy tuna roll at the end because even with three rolls we were still a bit hungry. This is a bit of an expensive sushi restaurant but you pay for what you get, I'll definitely be going back for more delicious sushi. read more

The menu has a good selection without being overwhelming. The only thing I would have liked is a sashimi option that was a smaller portion. There is a chef's choice option for $65. You should try the omakase menu, it was a great experience with a good amount of food for a decent price, I had the 7 piece for $34.95. Get the salmon six step and box tuna rolls. This unassuming place has the best sushi in town by far. The staff and chefs are super friendly and place is very clean. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They offer curbside during the Covid 19 pandemic. I've been to most of the local sushi spots and this place is hands down the best in town. read more

Servers take way too long to take order (20 min). There were empty tables but would not sit us a table of 2 because they thought a table of 4 could just show up. Which did not happen. Sun sushi was a pretty good hidden spot where locals like to go in Santa Barbara. I really enjoyed the albacore delight roll because it was the best role there! I also got the volcano roll which was pretty good because the scallops did not taste fishy which is really hard to perfect in most restaurants. The baked lobster roll was okay not much flavor was probably my least favorite but still good. The stuffed jalapeños were not good at all but the waiter was kind enough to remove it from the check which I appreciate because I did not eat more than one. And the miso soup was good like every other place. However, the best part of the entire dinner was the spicy Mayo because it was freshly made and you can tell because it doesn't have the same taste as most places and it was lighter and creamier. If you go to sun you have to order buckets of spicy Mayo it is sooo good and tastes amazing with everything! I really recommend trying this spot but dining because I have heard takeout can be a bit challenging. read more

This place is the best sushi in Santa Barbara hands down. It is pure fresh fish and somehow they've elevated the sushi game since first opening. We're regulars at this point and Sun Sushi has perhaps spoiled most sushi for me anywhere else. I added a picture of the flying fish sushi from Friday night. After serving it up this way, they fried up the fish head to tail (like the head of the amaebi, which we also had.) We started with plenty of fresh sushi including my all-time favorite amber jack(!), a couple of oysters and halibut carpaccio. One of my favorite sushi places in SB! I have eaten at the restaurant and ordered to go and both times I was very impressed with them. The fish was always fresh and the rice is seasoned well. This is my go to sushi place in Santa Barbara for sushi and they never seem to disappoint. I really liked their rolls especially the yellow tail delight and the spider roll.
