COMPLETELY DISSSATISFIED with SUN TAILORING SUMMARY: My pants were not hemmed correctly. Sun Tailoring kept them and tried again for a second time. However, they were not fixed and I need to take them to another tailor to have them corrected. Sun Tailoring was recommended by Neiman Marcus mens department. The woman had an amazing way of measuring for a hem -- just chalked on pants on the calf, never measuring the bottom. The man said looks good. Also the pants were supposed to be taken in because the rear was baggy. When the pants were tried on, they were much TOO long. They had to be redone. Came back for the pants on 2/9/2015, one pair was too short in the front and still baggy in the rear. The other pair was still TOO long. Paid the the bill of $205. Took the pants and left. Will go to another tailor elsewhere to have the pants correctly done. A VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. WILL NOT RETURN. read more

Mr. Sun is an excellent tailor. I've been shopping around for a tailor for some time and had it narrowed down to two. I took the work from another to Mr. Sun and he quickly fixed it. I've talked to him about getting custom made shirts and he discussed it with me. He taught me what shirts to look for. I bought one and he was right. He could have easily stuck me for custom shirts that I don't need. I brought in a suit after I lost 85 pounds and he made it fit nicely and the back pockets don't touch so I know he put a lot of work into it. I don't know a lot about clothes or tailoring and am trying to learn. I think some of the other reviewers may know enough to be dangerous, but I think this gives me an advantage. I can ask him questions and if I don't understand the answers I can seek clarification. I've also explained to him about somethings I've read on the Internet and clearly misunderstood what I read and if he can piece together what I'm talking about he'll explain it to me. Don't get me wrong, if you want a long conversation go to the bar at Wildfire. I've brought in many jackets and suits and he looks at them and some of them he asked,"what's wrong?" I respond,"you tell me?" "Nothing. Try this." As he is a to the point, no nonsense kind of guy and he just moves to the next article. He seems to want to do the best job that can be done on every project and not just take projects just so he can charge money. Every time I see him I'm greeted warmly with a bow and a genuine smile. No matter if I'm just asking a simple question or if I have work for him to do. If you wrap you're head around the idea that he gets his sense of pride by doing the right thing then you can trust him to do a great job. If you want to tell someone what to do and they just do it without recognizing the consequences of your or their actions then maybe the tailor at the local dry cleaner is for you? If you want someone who puts respect and pride into their work the Mr. Sun is for you. He is a precision artist and as a result a most excellent tailor. read more

I came by in a huge hurry because my pants were ripped and I needed them fixed on the spot. The hole was in a precarious location and prone to further rips, especially since the area was worn out. They told me that it would take a while to fix it properly because they would need to replace the fabric there, but because it was a rush job and was needed for the next day, they fixed it up, told me it's likely to rip again due to the weak fabric, and told me to come back later so they could fix it for real. I'm sad to say that it's unlikely I'll be able to return due to my travel schedule, but if I could, I absolutely will. Fantastic service, extremely quick and friendly, and efficient. When you walk in, you just know you can trust them. Highly recommended! read more

Overall: I've been pretty happy with Mr. Sun's work, but the language barrier and his shop's geographical distance from me makes it unlikely I'll keep going to him. I've taken three garments to him: a long coat for re-lining, a tweed jacket for re-lining, and a dress (lined) to be reduced by two sizes. The long coat was lined perfectly, the tweed jacket was lined fine (although poofily around the wrists), and the dress was slightly more exciting. When I took in the too-large dress, I was a worried when he didn't give suggestions as to the potential alterations when I was unable to specify what I wanted (beyond shrinking the dress). He pinned one side of the dress, and then said he would do the other side after I'd taken it off. I was dubious, and with good reason: when I returned, the dress hugged around the hips very tightly, and was loose around the waist. I looked like a bulgy sausage, although he tried to convince me it was fine. Much to his credit, when I firmly told him I would prefer the dress to lean toward A-line rather than Sausage-line, he promised to redo the alterations free of charge. After the second round, the dress fit much better, and looked neat both inside and out. (Note: His wife says that when they make garments smaller, they leave the extra material when they can, which is perfect if you think you may go up a dress size someday.) I would rate my three experiences with him as generally positive, but one problem throughout was that I was always hoping to hear him clearly confirm what he was going to do; even when I asked, his answers were usually affirmative and unspecific (and with limited English). If I lived closer to Tyson's, I might deal with it, but given the distance, I think I'll look elsewhere. Sigh. read more

Got the sleeves and hem shortened on a suit and a pair of jeans shortened with the original hem. Nothing really to complain about but the whole thing cost $75.00. Maybe that's normal, but I usually pay $18 for original hem on jeans and didn't think the suit would be much more difficult / expensive since all I got done on it was the length. Wasn't 100% pleased with the sleeves because it doesn't seem like they took the time to trim or sew in the original lining, so now it puffs out of the sleeve a little. I think I'll probably stick with my local dry cleaner for jeans, but might try this place again for a more difficult alteration. read more

I just took 4 pairs of jeans in last week and picked them up yesterday. I've had other places screw jeans up before by making the hem look ridiculous. I didn't exactly know what to expect but I figured I'd give it a shot. After picking my jeans up and trying them on, I will never go anywhere else for alterations. Without me even asking, they reattached the original hem so now my jeans look like they were made this way. And now they're all the perfect length. It was $20 per pair, which may seem expensive but it was well worth it. I'm glad I finally found a tailor I can trust with jeans and I don't have to look any further! read more

The best tailor in the area by far. I've gotten two very nice shirts and one suit tailored by Mr. Sun and he did everything perfectly. I also went in the other day to get a button fixed that was ruined by another tailor and he did it right away. My friend has gotten multiple suits and pieces of clothing done by him and all came out perfectly. We like our clothes modern fit and Mr. Sun doesn't so we always have a fun back and forth between what looks better. I would recommend him to anyone! read more

Mr. Sun did a great job tailoring my brand new suit. I had unique specifications I was looking for, and he politely cautioned me, but relented when I insisted. A tailor can fit you and guide you in what measurements are best for you, if you so desire. At the same time, you can instead give your tailor your own instructions, so as to achieve a certain look. Mr. Sun was more than accommodating. He is a custom tailor in the bespoke trade. Alterations are therefore not inexpensive, but they are well worth the cost. For instance, my total was $112 to have pants hemmed, jacket sleeves shortened, and the bottom of the jacket shortened. That's after a 20% discount, as I mentioned I was referred by the suit salesman. I give it 5 stars because the price was, in the end, actually comparable to the dry cleaners where I had some shirts tailored, except with Mr. Sun I know I am going to be wearing the work of a master tailor. Also, convenient location (if you buy a suit in the mall, just go upstairs and take it right to Sun Tailoring). Lastly, and very importantly, they are friendly people. Mr. Sun even said "shukran" to a client as he left who was apparently an Arab-American. So in keeping with this, I was sure to do the whole bow thing with Mr. and Mrs. Sun when I left. I have been going to Sun Tailoring for almost 10 years. I used to work out near Dulles so it wasn't a problem but now I love and work in DC and have to use my husbands car. That being said, I ALWAYS go to Sun because while over the years there have been a handful of items (trust me when I tell you I shop a lot and need to get things altered ALOT and I'm 5'9) that they had to fix, they always get my hems correct and even made a $1500.00 Jil Sanders Tux I got at Filene's basement (for $275) fit me like it had been custom made for me. I'll leave it with this, I just got a $1600.00 Brooks Black Fleece Suit and a wool/cashmere Black Fleece overcoat ($1250.00) and I refuse to use Brooks as they ruined two suits they altered. I'm taking them to Sun tailoring tomorrow all the way from DC, they are just that good!!! read more

I will recommend this place to my friends, family and coworkers. I came in to get a long bridesmaid dress shortened. I have full confidence that Mr. Sun wants the best for his customers and will give the best price for the best quality. In addition, my dress didn't have a metal clasp on the back and he added one free of charge. Fun fact, he has incredibly high EQ and is one of the wisest people I have talked to. Another fun fact, his looks way younger than he actually is. He will proudly say his age and then say that he looks young because he has happy customers. Love these guys. I have been going there for years. There are a few things which keep me coming back: 1. Quality of work, others may just stitch some stuff, but these guys get it right 2. Flexibility. About a year back I took some older pants to get them super slim (blame Dolce's fall season...). When told that won't work (make it slim, not super slim), I still insisted on super slim. Guess what, when stuff is skin tight u can't sit... So I sheepishly took it back to get it taken out a little. He was very gracious (ie no attitude), and did it + didn't charge me for redoing due to my mistake. I shd have listened to his advice, since this is what he does for a living. 3. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went in with two full length dresses and one maxi skirt to get shortened, a few inches off the bottom. It was simple enough getting them marked. When I went to ask about the price, they quoted me $65 for one, $75 for another, and $150 for the third dress. The third dress does have pleats, but that's more than I originally paid for the dress!! I decided that it was out of my price range and told him that. I then picked up my dresses ready to leave, when I found Mr. Sun next to me grabbing at my dresses. He had a huge part of the fabric in his hands and kept pulling it from me. I kept saying I just want to leave, but he wouldn't let me until he wiped off his markings. I completely understand that he didn't want me to take his work and do it myself for free or take it somewhere else and benefit from his 5 minutes. However, I do not believe that calls for someone to physically grab items that I own out of my hands for not wanting to pay $300 just to get some dresses hemmed. I, of course, let go of my dresses because I didn't want him to ruin them. Then I had to wait there while he muttered nasty things about me to his co-worker and watch and he aggressively brushed off the markings. It was absolutely one of the worst experiences I have ever had in the retail/service industry. read more

This was a nightmare! Absolutely ruined a Gucci silk dress that needed to be taken in on the sides. It came out crooked on the seams and uneven in length. Unwearable. A Chanel jacket came out too tight around the shoulders. Cannot be fixed. When I asked for an explanation Mr. Sun yelled in incomprehensible English and slammed a hanger on the table in front of me and my friend, narrowly missing my face. You get what you pay for in life, which includes alterations. Sun Tailoring is pricey but then again they're not amateurs. 98% of the time I usually have to get something altered when buying off the rack. The sleeves are too long, the pants are too long, the skirts hit at an odd length, the dress is too long...who are these freaky people that are 7' tall with 5' arms? Sun Tailoring comes to my rescue every time. And you can definitely tell the difference in their workmanship. Mr Sun does good work. We come here as we haven't found a reliable tailor elsewhere. He takes his time and it comes out well. However, the last time we went, it was disappointing because the woman (not Mr. Sun) quoted us a different price for the same job (waist and length). She wanted to charge us more than double than what Mr. Sun charged himself. I told her about the difference, she did not acknowledge that that was possible. I'm going to FIT as a Fashion Design Major in the Fall and as a chance to gain experience, I called all the tailors in McLean, Falls Church, and Tysons. Sun Tailoring was the only practice to take me in and teach me. There are a number of highly skilled tailors handling customer garments all day long, where Mr. Sun seems to be a grand master or sorts in the shop. The tailors in the shop create applicable exercises for me without letting me touch the actual customer garments; this shows their respect and loyalty to their customers. I find that their work is incredibly professional as I observe and get taught by them each day. Not only are they able to alter garments in a straight-forward way, but Mr. Sun and the rest of the tailors know so many hidden methods that alterations that seem practically impossible are changed like magic. I'm so impressed, yet not surprised at all, at how Sun Tailoring holds itself. With its commitment to bringing the customer the best possible alteration, to getting a, from what I see everyday, 100% customer satisfaction response, the legacy of Sun Tailoring at Tysons Galleria is what it is for excellent reasons. As I navigate through different luxury retailers such as Coach, Burberry, and Saint Laurent, all the most experienced employees know of Mr. Sun's tailoring prowess. They recommend him for any fitting problems for customers regardless of the problem, some even agree with the "magic" of his tailoring. I thought for the price it would have been quality work, but they merely stitch-wiched the hem on the bottom of my new suit pants, which promptly came out on their first trip to the cleaners. Sun Tailoring RUINED my wedding dress! They damaged my dress beyond a point that I would feel comfortable wearing it. They did not listen to my concerns about the dress either. When I would tell them what my concerns were, they would tell me that they are 'good tailors' and that I should listen to them. It was to the point that they were literally yelling at me and another customer stepped in to help me out. (Sun tailoring is a husband and wife team). Once this customer saw me in the dress and agreed that the work was not satisfactory, the tailors then agreed to partially reduce their fee. I found it ridiculous that my opinion did not matter to the tailors about my own wedding dress and that it took another customer to point out the faults for these tailors to actually listen! I showed my dress to another tailor, the store where I purchased the dress, and to friends. All agreed that the dress alterations were poorly done and that I should consider some drastic alterations in an attempt to fix the dress or buy a new dress. Even though they reduced their fees, I am still out the cost of the dress, which was expensive. I now have a very low budget to replace my dress and will likely be getting married in a used dress from ebay. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed and hope this example will help prevent others from having to deal with these awful tailors. read more
