i have been tanning for 5 years now at Sun Tan City and this was by far my worst experience. I have went to almost every salon in Iowa and have never had such a negative thing to say about the franchise. One worker in specific was extremely rude and belittling. I asked to be put in line for tanning and she explained my 24 hours wasn't up yet which isn't a problem. But i tried starting conversatio about how i'm not from here and i wasn't aware because at many of my home salons they have a 30 minute grace period. so i waited for the 30 minutes and when the time finally came I asked her to do the standup bed since it's included in my membership and even says so on my app, and she refused and would only let me in the fast bed. Then the fast bed had a 5 minute wait, which turned into an additional 20 minutes simply because she wouldn't leave the desk to clean off beds. I finally go up to the desk to ask about it and a different employee asked if i needed put in a bed so i said yes. the original employee told her no and proceeded to have me wait another 5 minutes at the desk and she looked at me and goes, "so did you tan?" i told her no because i've been waiting and she didnt feel any sort of need to apologize for my time and just sent me to a bed. i then asked which way the room was located because once again, ive never been to this salon and she rolled her eyes and explained it to me as if i was a 5 year old. read more

I waited a LONG time to consider this review and I decided it was time. This place in genuinely the WORST place to go as a worker or as a customer. I worked there for less than a month because it was such an awful environment, the other employees were mean, stole your sales, and treated you like garbage. They would yell at you if you cleaned the bed too much, even if there were hand or butt prints on the acrylic still, they yelled at customers, and talked poorly about a customer right in front of that same customer. Although the beds are very nice and high quality, it absolutely does not make up for the horrible experience. I recommend avoiding this salon at any costs. read more

the workers here are INCREDIBLY rude and are not informed on any lotions or bed pricing. they only ask specific people for eyewear and make others pay for it and half of the people I know do not use eyewear in the beds which is severely unsafe since the workers do not ask for it. the beds are always filthy and I see markings on the top of the beds and where I lay. if you want to tan I would NOT recommend this STC until their manager speaks to their workers about kindness and common courtesy read more

I went to get a spray tan, paid for it, but the manager couldn't get the machine working. She said I might get a refund in a few days after she put in the request, which confused me since I didn't get the service. I called the store multiple times for an update, but no one answered. I even called Sun Tan City's headquarters, and they told me no one had put in the request. I really had a bad experience with this manager. read more

She made me feel welcomed and helped me get into the system (my membership is Tennessee) Well it was as if the red carpet rolled out for me. This gal and that booth made me feel like a princess!!! I have appreciated limited wait time and clean facilities. Their staff is doing a great job with all the adjustments. It can be expensive, but the quality of their beds and the opportunity to tan at other Sun Tan City locations is a great feature. read more

I can honestly say that nearly all of my experiences at many Sun Tan City locations have been enjoyable, efficient and relaxing. The employees are typically very helpful and informative, yet remain respectful and friendly. The manager at this particular location, however, did not treat me or my company with this same level of respect and kindness I expected based off my previous experiences. Christine provided us with incompetent customer service and displayed a condescending attitude throughout our entire visit. Sadly, this is not the first negative experience we have had with Christine. I am extremely disappointed with how I was treated this past visit, and left feeling disrespected. This was my first time at SunTanCity, and it will not be the last! The staff was incredibly friendly, laid back, and helpful. They walked me through the entire spray tan process and made sure I was comfortable with my package choice. The facility was spotless! Also, I wasn't pressured into buying products I didn't need. I know some might think this isn't worth mentioning, but I do: often times in these kinds of establishments, someone of my size can be pretty harshly judged and ignored (people assume fat people are gross and not worth their time). I'm happy to say that I felt not only respected, but completely welcome. Trust me when I say, this is not always the case. Thank you, Coralville SunTanCity for being awesome. I've tanned at several different Sun Tan City locations but I will never return to the Coralville location. It is clear that customer service is not a priority, rather relentlessly pushing overpriced lotions and memberships. Even if you've just purchased a $100+ product, they still "recommend" alternating with another $100+ product. If you choose not to buy anything, their attitudes immediately turn sour, as you are no longer beneficial to them. The manager, Christine, is by far the worst with this and only sees dollar signs rather than customers. I've heard similar horror stories about Christine from several friends, Sun Tan City has a horrible stigma surrounding it in Iowa City. There are always new girls working there who usually don't know what they are doing, so I assume being pushy and invasive is apart of their training. read more

Every time I go in there my experience is absolutely horrible. They are always rude and not helpful. They make you feel like you need to buy something every time you go in, and if you don't you're pretty much worthless to them. I love my sun tan city back at home but coming to college and using the one in Coralville has been the worst experience of college for me. The manager is the rudest of them all. No girls in Iowa City want to go there because of how unwelcome they make you feel. If you want a tanning membership I'd suggest going elsewhere. read more

This was the worst costumer experience I have ever had. The young incompetent girls at the front desk were not helpful and had a attitude. I had purchased a 6 month membership but was NOT informed that they would keep charging me if I didn't go in person to cancel the 6 month membership at the end of it. I ended being charged the same price for 4 extra months without my knowledge!!! When I went in to get it refunded, they were saying I signed the paper with knowledge of it (which I didn't know) and told me they could do nothing. The lady didn't offer anything. I was NEVER told I had to go in to cancel my membership when purchasing a 6th month! I was never given a paper stating the fine print or even shown the contract for the membership, all of it was done orally. It's ridiculous. This whole place is basically a scam to keep making you pay because they don't do refunds for something that is their fault. NEVER GO TO THIS LOCATION. read more

She was awful and i will never go back there. even some of my sorority sisters say that they will never go back there because of the manager as well read more
