Let me preface this review with... I don't get my nails done. I honestly think the last time was my wedding... which was almost 13 years ago. My sister is getting hitched so I joined the bridal party for a mani/pedi on a random Tuesday at 5:30PM. The place was pretty busy! (Totally would recommend reservations-- which we had.) First I sat to get a pedicure. The staff was efficient and did a pretty darn good job in my opinion. I got a gel French dip and left pleased. Then I went to get a manicure. I am a chronic nail biter and I had worked so hard to grow my nails for the wedding. But alas, Bridezilla's antics the week of had me gnawing on not one but two of my pristine nails. Eeek. So I asked for an acrylic set and called it a day. I showed a photo of this pink to white ombre set I saw and I'm not gonna lie, my manicurist nailed it. Super happy. Minimal bleeding (again, I don't go to nail salons ever and am a nail biter. So I'd consider that a huge win.) I thought the pricing was high-- but who am I to judge that? The location is stellar, parking is a non issue. All of the staff were polite and professional. My manicurist/pedicurist could obviously tell I never did this and was communicative and kind. I am giving this a 3.5 star. Mostly because my daughter (the flower girl) came with and wanted just a normal pedicure with silver nail polish but then had her manicure done as she sat in the pedicure chair? She wasn't asked what she wanted (she actually wanted another color and some designs or a statement finger) but is nine so she didn't say anything. I felt bad she left disappointed... though her nails looked fabulous. Overall, Grace Salon is above average and worth a stop if you want your nails done and are on the Coralville Strip. read more

Holy crap! DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE BAD AT SPEAKING UP FOR YOURSELF. While they did a good job at my nails there seemed to be only one girl who was able to understand what I wanted (I'm assuming English barrier) that's fine, she worked on my nails when the others couldn't. However, while I clarified I wanted regular polish with this design she told me I had to do gel because it was better for the design I wanted (what?!) looking back I wish I just said no but was not confident in my nail knowledge and thought they couldn't do it with regular polish. As I go up to pay my nails are now over $100 because almost $50 of that was for gel polish (something I DIDNT WANT in the first place.) Overpriced and not worth it!!! read more

I went there for a simple nail dip. The first guy that helped me out put so much powder on (4 dips on ONE nail before he moved to the next nail) that they didn't have time to dry. It was so thick and uneven that I finally said something to one of the girls who could understand me better. He was actually trying to form the dip with his fingers, tapping and molding, after each time he put the powder on. I told her it was way too thick, which should've been obvious. She didn't seem to agree (or didn't seem to care) as she took over for him, even when I said I'd rather have no dip at all and rather have it removed if she considered that to be normal. She just looked at me. Maybe she didn't understand me? Who knows. She attempted to fix what was already done but the end result was spotty. The only way to fix it would've been to start over, which wasn't even offered. 3 nails have dip missing from the nail and several of my fingers are covered in dip on my skin area. It's hard to tell from pictures. I told her it was the worst dip I've ever had and left. I'm so disappointed. I used to go there often but haven't had my nails done in about a year. A nail professional should know it was awful without me even having to say it. Besides that, they didn't seem to care that I was unhappy with the entire service. They made no offer to make it right. Firstly, the salon is super clean and mostly everyone is very nice. But I've come here two times now and my nails were really messy and didn't look professionally done at all when they were finished. I had cuts on my cuticles, lumpy nail polish, and there was nail polish all around my skin without it being cleaned up. Henry did a great job on my pedicure and Kay did an awesome job on my first ever dip manicure. Kay even helped me find the color I was envisioning. I have been going to Claire at Grace Nails for about 4 months now and she consistently does a great job. She always keeps a friendly conversation while doing my nails and does well with detailed patterns and designs. She is very talented with nail art and I would recommend her to anyone. Grace nails has also been good with covid safety precautions. I live up in CR and have my go-to place up there. Grace nail salon was very cautious with COVID and checked each customer's temperature and ensured hands were washed prior to getting nails done. I really liked that! The building itself however get somewhat dirty. The benches to wait on were stained. The massage chairs were very old and outdated. At one time I also saw one of the employees catch some sort of large bug on the floor... I give them 3 stars though as they did a great pedicure and leg massage... very thorough! Lastly I did not like that there was not pricing for the nails. I usually like to know what I will be spending rather than be shocked at the register as I was today. This salon is racist against black people. I accidentally went here twice and I'm not even kidding....those TWO time, they were racist towards Black guests. The first time they told a black individual (I don't want to assume identity here because gender was not clear) that they needed an appointment. I had just arrived and was being treated without an appointment. The 2nd time I went, I didn't realize it was the same salon until I arrived and I was desperate and putting my needs over black lives. Which is ATROCIOUS ON MY PART AND WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. A black woman came in asking for an eyebrow wax. They acted like they didn't know if they could offer the service. It was so weird. They kinda agreed but it was like they're were going to have a woman so it who had never done it before? Or that she was just VERY uncomfortable with offering this service to a black woman . Either way....the black women decided to leave....and I don't blame them.....and the Asian woman started talking shit in her language and came to do my nails. She was atrocious and clearly so mad that these black women called out her racism. So I took my boyfriend and we left mid appointment. I will never be going back. I assumed this was owned by the same person that owned the Grace nails by Big Grove on Gilbert, but luckily it is not because this place is a disgrace for the name. You are over priced, the person who did my nails could not even do it properly, taking multiple attempts to do one nail and I still left with streaks and bumps at which point I had enough. You use low quality products and do not put all of your colors out, the staff is not attentive to detail and when the one nail she kept trying to fix my smoothing it with her finger. She finally brought out OPI top coat after using what seemed like a child's brand "Paparazzi" - you should be ashamed of what I walked away with it and the fact I paid $33 for this is even more embarrassing. Prices are not listed and they just charge you and have no justification. Then when I asked questions no one was able to answer them, nor was I was offered to be provided a list with the prices. This was a 50% job and you should be ashamed of calling yourself a nail salon; all around bad experience. Colors are not organized and they have extra behind the technicians and god forbid you ask about those. Thank god this was my only time here and I found the other Grace nails before coming here cause I would have assumed they are all this shitty. That one prides itself on its services, quality of products, and attention to details. If you want to get your nails done, drive 10 minutes down the road and go to the Grace Nails in Iowa City on Gilbert Street (much better and not affiliated with the Coralville one). read more

They are always busy, so I do feel like they don't spend as much time massagjng legs as some places do, felt like they rushed me out. read more

I found Grace Nail Salon via Yelp and am grateful for a great find. The Salon is clean, which is a big deal for me. They use liners for the pedicure chairs so sanitation in the pedi bowl is good. Tools are sanitized and so that gives me confidence in the safety. Location is great for my visits to the area. It is near Coralville Mall and restaurants that I would normally frequent while in the Iowa City area. The operation is run efficiently. While a tech was working on my toes, another started the soaking and removal of my gel/shellac on fingernails. During the visit, I interfaced with four very friendly staff members. The only thing keeping me from giving a five-star rating is the slight communication issues. I tried to carry on conversation with people working on me and found there appeared to be a language barrier. I understand that aspect, but it makes me feel more comfortable if I can converse with the nail tech instead of sitting in silence. For others, that may be a welcome relief to just relax and not keep up a conversation, so it is obviously a personal choic. read more

The staff are always friendly and upbeat, you feel like a part of the family when you are there. if i could leave this place 0 stars i would. worst nail place i've ever been to! extremely unprofessional i shouldn't have to go through 2-5 nail techs just for one set of nails. i didn't know pink french tips were rocket science, she didn't take the french tip down far enough and brought it down way too far on my friends nails. i left super unhappy, nails uneven, my left hand was significantly thicker than the right and made it look like i had a nail disease. they are also EXTREMELY UNSANITARY!! you can't have all your health codes posted around the building and yet REUSE nail files. they cut my right thumb and if i get an infection from this shit i stg. the third picture is what i asked for the the first 2 is what i got. read more

Finally a clean nail salon that gets you on your way in the Iowa City area! The facility is very clean and all the tools are prepackaged so you know they are very sanitary. Their regular nail polish selection is slim, but I like to bring my own polish so it's not a big deal. They were busy on a Saturday (which was to be expected) and she told us it would be a 10 minute wait. At other nail salons in the area this means it might be an hour, but not here ladies. We waited about 3 minutes and they were ready for us, how prompt!! They have lots of people working so they were very prepared for the influx of customers. My nails looks fantastic defiantly the best mani/ pedi I have had in the Iowa City/ Coralville area. For one regular mani/pedi you are looking at about $50. This is a little on the pricey side for the area but worth every penny if you want to be satisfied with your results. I will defiantly be returning soon, thank you for the amazing nails! read more

So I have been to 3 different nail salons in the Coralville/North Liberty area in the past 2-3 months, looking for one that does all of the basics, and my nails look good for at least 14 days. Unfortunately Grace is not that place. This was my second time coming in, the first time was for so-so pedicures with my sister in law. I figured they had been here a little bit now, and maybe they had improved. Wrong. The colors were lovely, and the lady that did my nails was nice enough (I don't think she spoke much English). However, half of my nails were crooked, my cuticles were not pushed back at all (so it looked like I needed a fill 2 days later.), and my GEL polish started to chip about 4-5 days later. Not impressed. I did get a design on my ring fingers and that was done well at least. Fast forward about 15 days after I got my nails done. One of my acrylic nails fell off (this had not happened with ANY other salon and I normally go for a fill every 2.5 - 3 weeks). I am not that hard on my nails, but I figured okay, whatever. Then I decided to take them all off. My real nail has a HUGE GREEN SPOT on it. Which is apparently some kind of fugus. I have no gotten in to the doctor yet, BUT I AM NOT HAPPY. I see my nail beds every time I get a fill because they file the old nail off. And it WAS NOT GREEN before I got my fill and polish done at GRACE NAILS. To say that I am unhappy is an understatement. Now I can't go get my nails done until my natural nail is healed. I am so disappointed. read more

I've been going to Grace in Coralville for almost two years. I usually always make appointments the day before and have always left happy. I used to get gel and it always stayed on a long time even working in a hospital and washing my hands all day. But now I get the dip and I love it even more than gel.
