My cat was sick and this and vca were the only place open. I called on a Sunday around 11am there was no wait and they said to go over. This place is more like an emergency room for animals. The place is huge with a ton of parking. It does feel like an emergency room. I was the only one there so I was checked in. My cat had a fever and was not eating. They got me right into a room within 10 minutes. They said everything seem okay but that they had to do X-rays and probably give antibiotics because of the fever. I had a pet die in the past so I think i just agreed to the price $1,960 for a fever! I had to leave her there for a few hours then they called me to pick her up. They just gave antibiotics said her heart looked inlarged. They gave me cat food and some medicine to put on her ear to make her hungry. They reimbursed me $50. So total was $1,900 for a fever. I personally think the price was outrageous. The care and place was nice but the price is too high!

I'm going to start by saying, Dr Jack (Jack Meagher) saved our cat, Ruby's, life. Ruby came into the ER after being diagnosed at another emergency vets office. It was touch and go for a few days, but Dr Jack thought outside of the box and figured out what was really going on with Ruby and saved her. His entire team was so friendly and took super good care of our baby. After seeing how kind they were, and babied our Ruby, I trust them 100% with Rubys care. The cardiologist (Dr Lori Siemens) who we also saw was just as kind and gave us all the information, plus some, that we needed. We will be seeing Dr Siemens again in the near future and since Ruby will need to be seen by a cardiologist for the rest of her life I'm glad it's her.

Any feedback on their canine cardiologist?

Hi Paola! Thanks for asking about our cardiologists! Dr. Sara Johns and Dr. Lori Siemens are both wonderful, providing us 5 day per week cardiology. We've been receiving lots of positive reviews on both doctors.

When you have pets. Stuff happens. We have a great local Vet in Oakland, but when my sweet cattle…read moredog boy Dingo started projectile vomiting and had scary bloody diarrhea we needed urgent help. We called our regular vet, and with it being a Friday afternoon they had no available appointments. Totally understandable, we were referred to an emergency clinic in Berkeley. The traffic in that direction to berkley was terrible, and by this point my poor dog is shaking and pooping blood. My coworker from Pacifica, overheard my panic as I was on the phone at work with my husband who was with our sick dog frantically trying to find an emergency clinic, suggested VEG veterinary emergency group. She said she had heard great things and took her sick pup there, from Pacifica to San Ramon based on others glowing recommendations of them. I instructed my husband to rush to San Ramon, while I called veg to give them a heads up on my dog being rushed in. By this point, I'd called multiple other "emergency" pet clinics and was frustrated with the lack of appointments (and empathy). I called VEG fully expecting to get turned away and I was pleasantly surprised with how Wonderful, supportive and helpful the front desk gal was. She calmly heard me out, understood that I was at work my husband was in the car speeding towards them with a vomiting shaking, mess of a dog. She texted me an intake form to fill out. And told me not to worry and that they would be ready to help my husband and dog as soon as they came through the door. This place has pet emergencies dialed in. My husband said as soon as he came in, they greeted him and my dog dingo by name and took them in side and seen by a vet FAST. They quickly administered IV hydration, gave him anti nausea and anti diarrheal. They took blood for tests and X-rays ( or ultrasound I'm not sure) to check for blockages. My husband was blown away by the open lobby and the efficacy and compassion. Thankfully seems like our Boy will live to see another day, he's feeling much much better. And we now have a go to location for any pet emergencies. Don't hesitate on driving here from anywhere in the Bay Area for an animal emergency. They are worth the drive and the money. I will say it was not a cheap visit but given the circumstances the care and the efficiency was well worth every single penny. This place is great. Thank you so much VEG. The best in pet emergencies

The level of compassion and care that we received from her is unparalleled. She was so patient, kind, called with updates frequently, and genuinely cared about his well-being throughout his stay. When his condition got worse and had to be transferred to specialty hospital, she called hospitals multiple times, trying to get him admitted after being told they wouldn't take him and even escalated to her Director to also make phone calls. She fought for him - fought to keep him alive. After she was finally able to get a specialty care hospital to take him and he was transferred, she called daily to check up on him even after he was discharged from VEG. The world needs more doctors like her especially during difficult times. Dr. Matsuo is a kind human, who gives me hope again that there are doctors out there who actually care about their patients vs. focusing on volume. VEG is so incredibly lucky and fortunate to have her and I highly recommend that if your pet ever has the unfortunate need to go to VEG, you ask for Dr. Matsuo. We thank her so much for being so patient, having tenacity in fighting for patients, and being just an amazing, wonderful, compassionate person. We thank you so much for saving Pinot.

When I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and organized the building was. The open concept floor was not what I was expecting but it was really awesome being with my dog every step of the way. The gentleman that helped us offered a bed for my dog to lay on, which was good because we waited like 5 hours. They offer snacks, drinks, as well as blankets for humans because it gets quite cold in there. Everyone there was kind and friendly. You could really tell they were dedicated to their job and providing the best experience for their patients. My princess loved being able to watch everyone walk around her and was completely content. The doctor even sat with her when we were finally seen so she wouldn't have to be moved. :) All the staff talked to her like a baby whenever they addressed her which made me happy too. Really shows they love animals. Paid about $660 to find out she didn't have a lot of poop in her, but the peace of mind was worth it. Getting to see how they take x-rays was cool too, even if my poor baby had to be manhandled hehe. The bill was much cheaper than I expected, which was nice. It was for the initial exam and the x-rays. Would highly recommend coming here for a transparent, wonderful experience!

Wow, I had only ever been to the Emergency place on E. Francisco, off the freeway in San Rafael…read more Being in So.Ma(rin) VEG was closer (old Tower records spot that is now Trader Joe's off the Freeway to the right- before Sir Francis Drake/Larkspur Landing Exit w/BEVMo -next to TJs and World Market) and although seems small from the front was spacious and modern and fully staffed & equipped for an emergency. I had spent the night debating if I should take my Pug in or not- for potential Aspiration Pneumonia- (wet loud barking sound) and how they can go from better to bad at day 3-7! Anyways, I tried my vet first in the AM and she had explained that they needed X-rays and to hold her - would maybe need to be put under- and for a brachiocephalious dog- if she took a turn while under(wet lungs) they would NOT have what they need to save her- ie oxygen etc to intubate her. So, my Doc made notes and sent over to them, while I headed over. Was greeted by very friendly staff in a clean tidy spacious space. It was probably 8:30am. I was the only customer. Saw Dr Anderson who went over her history of the many recent things that got us to this moment. She did a quick Sonogram? To look at her lungs to see if she could see foreign matter in her lungs. Yes. They were able to do X-rays and not put her under. They were able to discover this GI issue we have been trying to solve- which put her on rice and cottage cheese which led to it in her lungs- and then this Xray. They prescribed Amoxicillin and cans of a Hill's Rx diet. She just finished all that and really has been doing better each day that passes. I just really appreciated the Doctor's thoughtful process and everything we needed for success. She was luckily on the upswing. *This is the Modern ER for your pets. Totally would recommend to everyone. Call ahead or just go- they are helpful either way. They are 24hours open.

Wow, what an incredible team at VEG Veterinary Emergency Group in Larkspur!…read more Our 7-year old pup had been lethargic and occasionally yelping in pain, and we knew we wouldn't be able to get into our regular vet until Tuesday at the earliest. So we called VEG on a Sunday - we were able to speak with Dr. Tracy and she was helpful over the phone. Given his age and handful of symptoms, she did recommend a visit. I brought him in around noon on a Sunday and thankfully beat the rush. VEG is located in a BUSY shopping center with Trader Joe's and Cost Plus. Thankfully they have a few dedicated parking spots out front. We were triaged in the waiting area, and our whole visit took place there. They have dog beds to make the pups/pets comfortable and water/coffee/snacks to make the humans comfortable. The space is light and bright and very welcoming. Most of the team got down to my pup's level and checked him out on the floor - what a lovely touch to make the experience less stressful for my pup (rather than elevating him on a table). Dr. Tracy and Team took great care of us. My guy had an ultrasound and some bloodwork taken, and nothing major was detected. What a huge relief. They were communicative and clear about wait time and pricing. They gave us an anti-inflamtory for the likely neck pain and a script for a pain med, if needed. We saw some more serious cases come in, and the VEG Team acted calmly and with such kindness and compassion. Thank you for all that you do. We hope that we don't need to visit again anytime soon, but if we have another emergent concern, VEG will be our first stop.
