Nice, clean waiting room. Very big compared to other animal hospitals I've been to.

My dog had to be seen fairly urgently on a recent Saturday. There were no appointments available at our regular vet, so we drove 30 min over to SAGE. This was about 11:00 am, and luckily there was only one other person waiting. We were seen promptly, and I feel like everyone we dealt with was helpful and professional, from the receptionist, to the vet tech, and to the doctor. The doctor came up with a plan and explained everything thoroughly. My dog needed a minor procedure, and we were told he would be ready to be picked up in a few hours. My dog was ready in 2 hours, and we were given prescriptions and thorough discharge instructions. The price was fair, and luckily we have pet insurance, so we should get a reimbursement. As a registered nurse myself, this felt like a familiar setting, and I was very impressed with the care my dog received!

Today was our worst day. The staff at SAGE helped us through it, face the illness that presented itself rapidly, and educated us with information needed to be able to make a hard decision- with compassion and professionalism. Long sentence, I know. But truly. They were great with our Diamond girl, as we learned she likely had a hemangiosarcoma, definitely had a pericardial effusion, and was struggling. Our beautiful girl was treated with so much compassion, for which we are grateful on this horrible day.

I'm going to start by saying, Dr Jack (Jack Meagher) saved our cat, Ruby's, life. Ruby came into the ER after being diagnosed at another emergency vets office. It was touch and go for a few days, but Dr Jack thought outside of the box and figured out what was really going on with Ruby and saved her. His entire team was so friendly and took super good care of our baby. After seeing how kind they were, and babied our Ruby, I trust them 100% with Rubys care. The cardiologist (Dr Lori Siemens) who we also saw was just as kind and gave us all the information, plus some, that we needed. We will be seeing Dr Siemens again in the near future and since Ruby will need to be seen by a cardiologist for the rest of her life I'm glad it's her.

My cat was sick and this and vca were the only place open. I called on a Sunday around 11am there was no wait and they said to go over. This place is more like an emergency room for animals. The place is huge with a ton of parking. It does feel like an emergency room. I was the only one there so I was checked in. My cat had a fever and was not eating. They got me right into a room within 10 minutes. They said everything seem okay but that they had to do X-rays and probably give antibiotics because of the fever. I had a pet die in the past so I think i just agreed to the price $1,960 for a fever! I had to leave her there for a few hours then they called me to pick her up. They just gave antibiotics said her heart looked inlarged. They gave me cat food and some medicine to put on her ear to make her hungry. They reimbursed me $50. So total was $1,900 for a fever. I personally think the price was outrageous. The care and place was nice but the price is too high!

Any feedback on their canine cardiologist?

Hi Paola! Thanks for asking about our cardiologists! Dr. Sara Johns and Dr. Lori Siemens are both wonderful, providing us 5 day per week cardiology. We've been receiving lots of positive reviews on both doctors.

Despite him being in pain and extra on edge, the team took their time to treat him and make him comfortable. He had a swollen paw and a lot of pain, but we didn't see anything happen to him. The vet was perplexed by his symptoms, because it looked like it could have been a rattlesnake bite, but there wasn't any visible bite mark and we live in West Oakland (literally just surrounded by concrete). But she was absolutely right. He was treated for a bite and is now recovering smoothly. I highly recommend VEG. They are all top notch.

This is my second experience where first they wanted to put down my 1 year old kitty who was having urinary problems. I kept asking why they weren't starting him on antibiotics? I asked why are they compounding with stronger pain meds? Obviously his condition is getting worse if you're only treating the symptoms and not the cause. It was almost like they were setting him up for failure (death). They didn't care or listen when I told them I was a Pharmacist and had better recommendations on medication choices. I kept taking him every other day as his condition was worsening and they only kept adding stronger pain meds without identifying and treating the root of the problem. It made my parents sick to hear their suggestion of putting my cat down on the third visit. They didn't have the heart to even tell me that. So, my mom called all of her friends and found a "hero vet" who saved my cat's life. He actually DID start antibiotics and other meds to help with urinary flow and some pain meds to keep him comfortable. He also recommended a wet urinary diet and Calm Probiotics to be mixed in his wet food. We kept him on the meds for a month and he continues to eat his urinary diet. My baby is a healthy 4 year old now. I can't stand the horrific practices at VEG San Ramon. And now just the other day, they put down my friend's cat who was only 6 years old. Again, they couldn't diagnose or identify the problem so they suggested euthanasia. I feel there's a huge conflict of interest in their treatment of our sick pets and their push to get mildly sick pets euthanized and then cremated. This is sadly a scam business. I was so happy when they first opened because I felt a sense of relief having a 24/7 emergency vet nearby. Little did I know their ruthless practices would bring so much pain to pets and their parents. Please don't trust them with the health and wellbeing of your fur babies.

I had called ahead and they were able to make an appointment for him right away to save the extra cost of an emergency walk in, my cat was seen immediately and I was able to be in the exam room with him, the staff were knowledgeable and kind and took great care of my fur baby my first visit. It wasn't busy there at all, I returned to pick up additional medications for him and again it was easy in an out, not terribly busy. They lost some starts only due to a particular tech that cared for him during his in patient stay yesterday to receive IV fluids and (I thought) tube feeding and anesthesia. HE DID NOT RECEIVE THE TUBE FEEDING OR ANESTHESIA. I discovered this on picking him up at closing time, he was also soiled with diarrhea that was already dried into his fur at time of pick up, I had called to check on him and was waiting at the clinic an hour before pickup and the diarrhea was only mentioned as she brought him out. The techs name is Andrea who was so neglectful, I was deeply concerned by her demeanor upon meeting her but didn't think much of it, she had just begun her shift and seemed more concerned with eating a yogurt and then going outside to take a break within an hour of her shift beginning than the care of my cat. She wasn't informed about his case when I had questions about his condition and care plan and didn't seem to much care about him aside from whether she had maybe seen him before and if she would recognize him. More importantly she was the tech I was communicating with regarding my cats care and was the one I told directly that I would like to go ahead with the feeding tube and anesthesia. I was charged and extra $575 for these things(returned in credit on his account when I realized this hadn't happened) she had said only "no one told me he was getting that" but I was the one who told her to her face i witnessed her passing this along to the receptionist who added the charges to the payment and then the tech, Andrea, immediately went outside to her car for a ten minute break. Maybe she forgot but that is unacceptable. I was very disappointed he didn't receive the feeding tube, and also very disappointed he was returned to me COVERED IN DIARRHEA he had clearly been sitting in for hours, I was also disappointed that even if they weren't going to clean it they couldn't have given me a heads up about that so I could buy pet shampoo or wipes before pick up given all the time I spent waiting at the vet and the calls to check on him there was plenty opportunity to inform me of this. Nevermind it is poor practice for a clinic to allow a cat to sit in their mess for hours this can cause infection and additional distress. As I understand it it is common practice for a vet to clean an animal that has made a mess in their care before returning them to their owner. I will be speaking with management about this particular vet tech, I had called to talk with them but was told they are traveling and will get back to me... otherwise the care was great and affordable from Lone Tree, however I am left feeling very concerned about the incompetence and general disregard from vet tech Andrea.

My cat, Theodore, suffered a rectal prolapse on a Sunday. It was one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever been through. He was in excruciating pain, vomiting, having diarrhea, yelping, and literally had tissue protruding from his body. I genuinely thought I was going to lose him. Before finding Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin, I called well over ten emergency veterinary hospitals throughout Marin and San Francisco. Every single one either had wait times ranging from hours to over ten hours, couldn't perform surgery for days, or simply didn't have the staff to take another emergency. I was driving from place to place and calling anyone I could think of while watching Theodore continue to suffer. By that point, I felt completely helpless. Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin was the only hospital that could take him almost immediately. Within minutes of arriving, he was being evaluated and prepared for surgery. After spending hours hearing "no," finally hearing someone say they could help was something I'll never forget. What impressed me even more was the quality of care. Every single person I interacted with -- from the reception staff, to the nurses, to the discharge team, to the veterinarian -- was compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly communicative. They never made me feel like I was asking too many questions, and they took the time to explain every step of Theodore's care. Theodore had been dealing with a complicated medical situation for months that involved a lot of uncertainty. Their team quickly helped me understand what was happening and what needed to happen next. For the first time in months, I finally felt like I had answers and that Theodore was in the right hands. One thing that really stood out to me was that the care didn't stop when we walked out the door. The follow-up from the doctor and staff has been incredible. Recovering from an emergency like this is overwhelming, but they continued to answer my questions, check in, and make sure Theodore was doing well. I'm happy to say that he's recovering very well, and I'm beyond grateful for everything they've done for both of us. I genuinely cannot thank this team enough. They were there when no one else could be, and I'll never forget that. If your pet is having an emergency, I cannot recommend Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin highly enough. I truly don't know what would have happened if they hadn't been there. The only thing I wish is that they offered primary veterinary care, because after this experience I would enroll Theodore there in a heartbeat. Thank you to everyone at Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin for taking such incredible care of my little boy. I'll always be grateful.

They took the time to explain Leo's injuries, the surgery he needed, the possible complications, and the financial estimate. Even though we were terrified, we never felt rushed or left in the dark. The surgeon kept us updated, answered every question honestly, and made sure we understood exactly what was happening. During surgery, they found that Leo's intestines had protruded through the torn body wall and were very inflamed, but thankfully they were still healthy enough that they did not need to remove any of his intestines. They carefully checked for leakage, thoroughly cleaned the area because of the dog bite, and successfully repaired the body wall. We are so grateful for the skill and expertise that went into his care. What stood out just as much as their medical expertise was their compassion. Everyone treated Leo with such kindness, and they treated our family with the same care during one of the most stressful experiences we've ever been through. Today, Leo has made a full recovery and is completely back to his usual mischievous self. Our little "tough guy" has officially retired from picking fights with dogs many times his size, and we couldn't be more thankful that this team gave him that chance. They didn't just save our dog--they saved a beloved member of our family. They also saved my daughter's best friend. She would have been absolutely devastated if we had lost him, and because of this incredible team, she still gets to grow up with the little dog she loves so much. Thank you for giving our family more time with Leo. We will never forget your kindness, your honesty, and your incredible care. We recommend this hospital without hesitation. Five stars truly aren't enough.
