Every time I have a late from Sunergos coffee, it's like the first time. This establishment made me realize how great coffee can be, especially in the morning. First off, this location is in the Southend. Besides two Starbucks locations, you can't get a latte in the Southend of Louisville. That alone is impressive. The decor here is great. The chairs are all mismatched and comfortable. There is a rotating wall of local art that is always interesting and beautiful. If you like espresso and lattes, this is the best place in Louisville to have them. They perfectly mix the flavors together, and the milk froth on top is always in a perfect balance. At the beginning of what I envision as a long work day, I grab a Dirty Chai Latte (Chai latte + a shot of espresso) and it never fails to pick me up. The prices are right on par with Starbucks and Heine Bros, but the welcome I get in the morning is always a bit more local. The music played in Sunergos is always something I have on a playlist, or will be stealing for a future playlist. In summary, this place is a jewel in the Southend of Louisville. Let me start by saying something absurd when reviewing a coffee house, I don't like coffee. Never have. I did, however, really, REALLY enjoy the iced mocha that I got at Sunergos. Loved it. I want one right now. On a cold, rainy, Saturday morning with the marathon taking place down the street, the fairly large room was pretty empty. Only a handful of people were enjoying drinks and chatting. The music was good and at a reasonable level (some of the other reviews have noted the high volume, but I didn't experience that). It was warm, both temperature and welcoming as well as funky with an eclectic mix of furniture and lighting from across the decades. The art isn't much to ponder, but whatever. Everything was clean and really well-kept. The menu is straightforward and you don't have to ask for things in Italian. The baristas were extremely friendly and smiled pretty much the whole 30 minutes I was there. I wasn't staring them down or anything, but when I would glance up from my reading, there were happy teeth! If I did like coffee, I would love Sunergos. Even though I don't like coffee, I still really like Sunergos. read more

I've always received excellent service and great coffee at "Sunnies". This coffee shop is decorated as if everyone's grandmother donated their kitchen tables and lighting fixtures which creates a cozy atmosphere. On the menu, I recommend a Iced Vanilla Latte, as it is incredibly creamy and has such a great espresso flavor, though you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I always feel welcome and warm here. The color scheme is so pleasing that I took my color palette for my home directly from their walls. They care about coffee. However, they aren't assholes about it. They offer the right amount of sweet treats to accompany your coffee. They have small pieces of "café please and thank you" cakes wrapped in cellophane and ready to be nibbled on with your beautifully roasted coffee. The furniture is perfectly mid century with no one decade over represented. I feel like I'm home here and can relax as if it is my own living room. I'm not taking off my shoes and putting my feet up on the coffee table, but I have a feeling it would be okay. Different groups meet at this location. I know of at least one knitting group and there are other groups of gamers and old coffee aficionados that enjoy the atmosphere here. This is my favorite first date place. I know that it's close enough to my home that I can escape. I also know that if the date goes well there's Annie's Café right next door to extend our time together. I frequently find Starbucks coffee tastes over roasted. I have never had a bitter cup here. They bring the right flavors from the bean. read more

Hands down, my favorite coffee shop. We grind and brew them every day at home, and I stop in as often as my schedule allows. I love coming here for reading days, to work or meet up with people. We've been frequenting Sunergos for over 7 years now, and I honestly blame them for making me care about the coffee I drink. My all time favorite was a single time availability, the Ethiopian Tchembe. Oh. My. Word. It smelled like fresh baked blueberry muffins when you brewed it. It demanded a trip through my Chemex rather than the ole drip machine. Usually, though, we stick to the Tanzanian Peaberry for daily drinking. Once every few bags, we'll toss in the Sumatra Mandhelin to mix it up. Leave the nasty, burnt, sugar-loaded national coffee chain aside and hang out here. You won't regret it. read more

I have now been to both Louisville Sunergos, and all within 48 hours. I may just yet turn into a coffee snob. No simple "cup o' joe" here, it's all the frou-frou stuff. Definitely not a bad thing, not a bad thing at all. Sunergos "2" let's call it, carries a similar vibe as the one on Preston, and a similar layout too, but bigger I think. The paint job is newer but inviting, the furniture a little cleaner and less wobbly (no matchbooks or rental guides needed,) but all in all, a comfortable, spacious spot to relax, prop open the computer or read a book, maybe enjoy a game of chess or simply strike up a nice conversation. And the coffee's great too! Oh, and they accept Mastercard and Visa. I wonder how well it will do with this location on Woodlawn, just off Southern Pkwy, because right now it has to be a destination spot as there isn't much else to draw customers this way, even though Southern Pkwy always has some walkers with its tree-lined streets leading to Iroquois Park. It looks to be getting some foot traffic and that's a good thing, with the hidden but somewhat popular Annie's Cafe nearby, but there really is not much else around but some empty storefronts and a couple other odds and ends. Louisville's southend needs places like this (actually another good coffee shop is not far with Sister Beans across from Iroquois) but time can only tell. Makes me wish I had the dough to drop on urban renewal. Always wanted to be a philanthropist. read more

This is my first visit here. I normally stop in for a delicious treat near my brother Brad's house over near Eastern Pkwy. I really enjoyed the location and the banter with the Barristas. It's the best coffee in town that I have found. This location is in a very fun location and right across from Beechmont Bombshells where they do an awesome job with haircuts and colors. If you are looking for coffee drinks a notch above the rest in town then this is your place! I first met the owners of Sunergos over in New Albany when they helped with the Rainbow Blossom setup. The two guys I met couldn't have been nicer. At that time in my life I didn't even drink coffee, now I just adore a nicely roasted bean! I believe you will fall in love with the coffee here. This place is cozy and welcoming, but also really casual and kinda funky. They know they have good coffee and the decor is homey. Its a random assortment of tables and chairs that looks like it's from my parents basement. Lots of people looked like they were working/hanging out. It was very peaceful and the coffee was delicious. I got a caramel lattee and was pleased with the level of sweetness. It was creamy and has a rich flavor. Mockingly, this Sunergos location was opened only a handful of years after I moved away from Beechmont- a sad day, indeed. For those from the area, it's in the old "Potato Man's Comic Shop"; if you look back in the roastery, you can see the old sign above the back door. The inside is the most spacious of any Sunergos (I believe) and features an assortment of tables, chairs, etc. for in-store seating. Up front, their whole bean coffee is for sale, usually within days of being roasted. There are two bathrooms (unisex) with one featuring a changing table. Parking on the street (free) or in the back lot behind Annie Cafe (also free). While I love all of the Sunergos locations, I'd give this one the edge, mostly because I enjoy walking around my old neighborhood, with all of its ethnic stores and restaurants, while enjoying a single origin latte. If you stay in store, Sunergos really shines with their cappuccinos, cortados and other espresso drinks. If you are a "flavoured coffee" person, give their espresso drinks a try without any additions- you might be surprised how much you can enjoy coffee when its a) roasted with a high degree of skill, and b) super fresh due to the roastery under the same roof. I've never had bad service at a Sunergos, and it's been a long time since i've had a subpar drink from an inexperienced barista. Their dedication to quality has only grown, in my estimation. My only complaint is that their food offerings have room for growth. If I want coffee + food, I'm still likely to visit Please and Thank You first. But, if you want a great cup of coffee or an espresso drink, nothing else in Louisville touches Sunergos. read more

The atmosphere is relaxed and the location being in a less than busy part of town means you'll actually be able to focus without the hussle and bussle of some of the other local coffee shops. I was in this part of town for work and and every time I'm there I wonder why I don't come that wat often. It is such a pretty area. Any who, I had been to a Sungernos before just not this location. The space is great with the open floor layout and eclectic decor. However, I have neve found a coffee I really like there. They are always too bitter for my preference. They did have Please and Thank You cookies so that was jam. Another thing is they do not have Equal sweetner which was a bit of a bummer. Sunday mornings have regularly a disappointment at 7:30 when Sunergos is advertised as open, but the store is dark and no one is in there. Even if I'm all the way out in the South end, which for some reason has happened quite a few times lately, I can still get a great cup of coffee and a savory scone. Quality stuff, but it's loud. Very loud. As the owner put it, "it should feel like a party is just about to get started in here." Side note: even if you are standing right next to this location and you type in Sunergos in either the Google maps app or the iPhone maps app, the GPS will not automatically direct you to 306 W Woodlawn Ave. It will take you to Preston location. This was very frustrating my first few visits here, but this Sunergos now has the prestigious pleasure of being the only other address I have memorized besides my apartment. And the atmosphere -- a large room full of comfy vintage chairs, couches and school desks -- is cozy and great for settling in with a cup of joe and a laptop. The coffee, however, is the star of the show. It's just plain good. And my fiancé and I agree that the best white mocha in town is made behind the counter at Sunergos.
