This is the second local brewery my wife and I have visited since we moved into the area two years ago. The bartender was very friendly and when my wife was unsure about what to get, she asked my wife what she usually drinks and recommended several options. My wife wound up going with the Mexican lager (Tres Payasos) while I chose to do a flight (which I typically do when visiting a brewery for the first time). My flight consisted of: 1) Cool Story M - blonde ale 2) Death Bossa Nova - dark lager 3) Maibock - bock/maibock (partially ordered because the name sounds like the car) 4) Wystouti - stout After the flight, I also got a half pour of their Mexican amber lager - Payaso Oscuro. We were there in between lunch and dinner so we did not have any food with our beer. Overall, a very pleasant experience. We plan to return in the future. read more

Unexpectedly good! We have a "beer passport" with select breweries in New Jersey (buy one,get another one for 50% off kind of deal), so this was on the list to visit. Super friendly staff,good selection of beers,huge parking lot and reasonably big grounds (they have an event-oriented outdoor tent,alongside "regular" bar + brewing interior). We saw a number of people arrive for a 4-can pick up,so there's clear evidence of loyal return-customers :) we had 2 different varieties of IPAs on tap and took some home as well. This is a cool brewery beside an amazing seafood and gourmet shop with tons of great food to bring over and enjoy. It's small and quaint, but not one of the better breweries in the area, sadly! The staff wasn't all that friendly on the day we went and it wasn't filled with a lot of happy go lucky people. We grabbed one of the games they had and sat at a table and enjoyed our own company and the beers we had. Needless to say the beer was great! We had: - Bearded Flannel Cat IPA for me(Tasty AF) - Grumpy Queen for my gf(Tasty AF) All and all this is a cool spot and I'll definitely be back, but let's hope the next time the servers have a better sense of humor and are more welcoming and friendly. Last week's unseasonably warm weather coupled with a 1/2 day of on-site work means BEER! I'd seen this brewery for a couple of years and was happy to finally be in the area again to stop in. I was craving a cold one under the sunshine but the covered outdoor space still meant I'd have to go inside the actual bar to get my beer then walk across the lot. And honestly the outdoor space seemed best enjoyed with a friend and I was flying solo. Inside the actual bar was bright and airy, mostly populated with men who were a mix of regulars and newcomers. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a friendly bartender, a handwritten menu board, and a paper list to peruse. I opted for a sour, then a citrusy wheat beer. The sour was great, the other a little strange aftertaste. With tip I was out about $18. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday. Bar stools were plus size friendly and there's a ledge underneath the bar overhang that I kept my leg on so it didn't fall asleep. Fat girl problems. Wow! Another kudos to NJ brewing! The service is always inviting and the kind you want when you are entering a new spot. You can buy snacks for food, or there is a pizzeria right next door. You always smell something good while your sipping on their amazing selections. The beer is old school and the type of beers you want despite the American IPA crave. I was amazed to find interesting beers, but ones that I was able To ask for opinions and never was steered wrong. The ambiance is industrial with a homey vibe and friendly atmosphere for anyone... even your 4 paw friends!! Another excellent stop in my continual quest to explore all of the amazing craft breweries NJ has to offer. It was well worth the 45-minute drive from Jersey City, and another brewery that I look forward to revisiting. The recently tapped Kveik NEIPA was my favorite of the day - it was that perfect yellow hazy hue with just the right amount of hop. It was followed closely by the Goin' In Fresh, a nice mix of east and west coast IPA styles. I was really hoping to try the pumpkin, but alas, that was tapped out the particular day I was there. Next time I'm aiming to try that, along with the stout. As with most things COVID-related, no tastings right now, but they do have some indoor seating if you're up for it, but if you, like I, are keeping it roofless, there is plenty of outdoor seating. Some under a tent for rain, some out in the open for sun, and some with fire pits for cold. And while there is no table service outside (a plus in my opinion), they do have a few beers on tap out there, so you don't even have to go back in to get a refill if you don't want to. read more

Great beers, great location, great atmosphere!!! We have been here a handful of times and really enjoy the experience. The atmosphere is very "relaxed" and there is a lot of space to sit and hang out with any size group. They have a wide variety of beers on tap, which we appreciate! I like how it's next door to metropolitan seafood, so you could order some great takeout if you get hungry after a few beers :) This is a little far from where I live, so I have only gone a few times, but any time we are in the area we are sure to stop by! read more

Try the Keller Pilsner! So great to find a microbrewery willing to make a lager and the Sunken Silo Brew version is excellent, highly recommend. Unfortunately no flights here, if you want to try everything and you're a lightweight like me you can go with half pours, 8oz for $5 each; pints are $7. About half a dozen tables inside plus seats at the bar, also a huge covered patio outside for fine weather and/or social distancing. It was 95° when I visited so we sat inside LOL. I'm not much of an IPA fan so I can't give you a review of those. I tried their standard stout, pure clean excellence. I wasn't a fan of the birch stout, the root beer note wasn't my taste. An American pale ale was very plain, forgettable. They're brewing on a 10-barrel system, if you come at the right time and poke your head towards the back, you might get a brief tour. No tour required for drinking though LOL. As many others have noted here and I totally 100% agree, there's a fantastic market next door for takeout, their fish & chips is not to be missed. read more

Wow, this little local brewery was SO good! It has a hipster vibe and they brew all of the beers on their menu. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty busy but were still able to find seating. They do not serve food but you can order take out from the restaurant next door (Metropolitan Seafood). They have an outside also so I cannot wait for the warm weather there! read more

Great vibes! My husband and I were in the area for the weekend and we were looking to hang out at a brewery. We had our goldendoodle with us. Dogs aren't allowed under the tent, but they put a table out for us under the tent as close to the patio for us because the patio was full. We only sat for about five minutes under there because a couple of tables cleared out in the patio, but they were so accommodating! The beer was delicious. They were very heavy on the IPAs, but also had a couple of ciders and ales, which I went with. They had live music when we went and some corn hole. Definitely a fun, chill place to hang out! The inside of the brewery was really nice, too! I left with a cute tank top! Also, there was plenty of space between tables where I didn't feel uncomfortable. We stopped by Sunken Silo after walking around Spruce Run. I was really excited when I read their beer menu, and surprised to see a Stout in July. The Origami Dojo was FANTABULOUS--balanced and fruity IPA, literally exactly what I was craving after walking around in the hot sun all day. We also had a few more IPAs -- all crazy good. We finished off with Wystouti and...whenever I am in the area, I will be sure to fill up a Growler. It was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good...it was smooth and full of the coffee/chocolate flavor which I love. We had no bad beer, and I can not wait to sample more. They have their regular stuff, and a rotating tap soooooo A+ in my book! Also, the staff was very very friendly yet sanitary and clean when handing me the pints...which we brought outside to sip on the back patio. I felt extremely comfortable and safe given the COVID-19 situation. Every one respected social distancing, and there was plenty of space for all. I wish this brewery was located closer to me, but I will definitely return whenever I head on 78 so I can pick up a growler or crowler of the stout. Keep doin what you're doing. read more

Sunken Silo is one of the newest breweries in NJ.  I actually wasn't even planning to go there, but it was literally on the way back from another place I was visiting.  Normally I try to stay away from new businesses because I have found that its true experience can be had later on once the hype dies down, and they get the kinks of it.  But I had to go because I was around and wouldn't be able to travel all the way up there again easily.  Keep in mind this review is written with the newness in mind. They are located in a semi-upscale strip mall.  There were lots of nice cars in the parking lot.  I didn't know much about Lebanon, NJ before going, but the crowd there feels 50-something and well off.  I found them hard to relate to.  One person I managed to chat with briefly said he doesn't know anything about beer but wanted to check it out.  Will Sunken Silo end up being a local neighborhood hangout, a place for trendy people to see and be seen, or a destination brewery for beer enthusiasts?  That has yet to be determined. They have a longer bar on the left, some seats on the right, and the smallish brewing system is in the back.  The bar looked like the place where most patrons will end up sitting. Since they were busy, I just asked for a pint of any IPA.  They said that they had a West Coast IPA, so I tried that.  It was crisp, hoppy, clear, and delicious.  Although they were mobbed, it seemed as if they had their act together from the start. Apparently, the name Sunken Silo has some local historical significance.  I would have gladly chatted with the staff or owners about it, but I don't blame them that they were trying to work the crowds. read more

Came out to Sunkin Silo to see a band that was advertised from 6 to 9. Pick up food, rush to get here so my disabled husband can get a seat. No band is playing so I ask and they say, " Seven, it was ALWAYS SEVEN". So I go back and look at their website and it clearly says 6-9. So now we're waiting an hour to see a band that was advertised as 6-9. That's BS. read more

We've been here numerous times ...outdoors is preferred, even during the winter...the propane heaters / tables help. I'm a Brit, have lived in Germany, France...so "beer" is my middle name. Their selection is great and consistent. Service is always cheerful and great attitude...dog friendly definitely a plus. Metropolitan Seafood next door also a plus...seafood isn't cheap but the quality is all there...so is the service. Marc (owner) gave me a handful of fresh oysters to chow on, on my first visit ! They've got the new outdoor tent up and this place is also good people watching...we're usually there after a hike, with lots of other hikers. Beer - Abundant selection of beers on tap for every beer drinker. Lost Valley and Unicycle are awesome. They offer different variety of options depending on the amount you are looking for. Personal or minor social parties they have crawlers and cans. For bigger parties or those who have a kegirator, they have different size kegs to purchase. Staff - Friendly and knowledgeable. I have been going to Sunken Silo since they opened (next to metropolitan seafood which is phenomenal food with your beer) and the staff is always quick to your needs. Had the opportunity to stop into Sunken Silo with my son who's a big fan of craft beer. The beer here is great, whether it's their lager, stout or hazy IPAs. They even have naturally flavored seltzer on tap which my daughter-in-law appreciated. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable -- they made great recommendations for us! Beer is pretty good - and metropolitan seafood is great - but the owner of Silo is intolerable, smug, and rude. He treats his customers like trash, and enforces arbitrary rules that have no effect on his bottom line. He should think more about his pockets and less about enforcing his belief system, and he will be much more successful. I will never go back. read more
