I wanted to love this place. It's beautiful inside and out. The outside seating has lots of firepits and sectioned off areas. And the inside dining area feels like it wants to be casual and family friendly but to me, it just seemed stuffy and high end. I was greeted upon entering by a nice gentleman. I told him it was my first time so he explained that I'm allowed to bring food if I drank outside otherwise, the dining room was for their food only. They serve Cape May Brewery beer in addition to their cider. I love that. What a nice partnership! The two servers at the bar were cold and aloof. The Milk Buns were not so pillowy. 4.5 stars I had tried a can of Ironbound's Original Hard Cider at a bar in the past and had not been overly impressed by its dry flavor; I was much more of a sweet cider person. However, we happened to be out in near the ciderhouse recently, and after seeing pictures of their gorgeous grounds, I thought it would be worth visiting and giving the pressed apple drinks another chance. The cidery was actually located on an 108-acre organic, regenerative farm where they produced their own apples and grew other various herbs and vegetables. We had the option of sitting inside the ciderhouse or outside, either within their large tent or under one of their umbrella-covered picnic tables or Adirondack chairs. While there were bar and wait staff inside, sitting outside meant having to go back and forth to their bar, but that was fine for us. We ordered some food and were given a beeper that would let us know when it was ready for pick-up. In the meantime, we started with beverages. I was driving, so I just got a can of Pineapple Spindrift, but my partner ordered the cider tasting flight. I took small sips of each of the 4 hard varieties: 1.) Original Hard Cider - the same dry version I had found just OK in the past 2.) Devil's Harvest - made with dry-harvested Pine Barrens cranberries and tart cherries 3.) Highlands Farmhouse - containing Northern Brewer and Cascade hops, so it had the funky taste and body of a beer 4.) Juniper - very effervescent and infused with juniper berries The Devil's Harvest and Highlands Farmhouse were our favorites by far, and we even purchased a 4-pack of the Devil's Harvest from their indoor shop and farm market to take home with us. In fact, the store sold a variety of gourmet food items, fresh vegetables, refrigerated meats, Ironbound merchandise, and much more. Our food was ready rather quickly and was tasty. We shared a chunk of the Cornbread, which was more on the dense, dry side than being sweet and cakey, which was actually how I preferred it. The savory treat was served with WoodsEdge honey butter that I did find too sweet, though. I also got the Chicken Tacos, which were served in a portion of 2 corn tortillas, which were stuffed with shredded chicken, a cilantro-cabbage slaw, and pickled red onion. I skipped the side of sour cream, but the small cup of accompanying heirloom tomato salsa was spicy, herbaceous, and really added a kick. The chicken was only the slightest bit dry, but it had been so well-seasoned that it really did not matter. My companion got the Heritage Pulled Pork Sandwich, which was nice and large, but its Carolina BBQ sauce was on the sweeter side. It was also very over-priced for $24 (especially when it came with potato chips not fries), but none of the items that we ordered were well-priced, unfortunately. Lastly, my partner ordered one of the cider cocktails which had fig in it and really tasted like a sparkling rose. We both thought it was decent, but dry. Good experience at Ironbound this weekend! We stopped by this past Saturday afternoon and it was fairly empty for a warm sunny day. We walked right up to the outside bar and split a cider flight with their specialty ciders. It was fairly priced and good potions for what we got. Our favorite cider ended up being the Black Tea Lemonade. We took the Black Tea Lemonade and the Sangria to go. Compared to other places we have been, the drinks were slightly more expensive ($50 for one cider four pack and sangria four pack for reference) but I imagine you would pay the same to order those drinks out at a bar. We ordered the flight of 4/4oz ciders and they were from sweet to tart/sour, a good sampling (Devils Harvest is what we bought to take home). Tried the pulled pork sandwich with side salad and it was very tasty, moist and flavorful, with a hint of horseradish for uniqueness. Driving up through Pittstown, you wouldn't expect to find such a wonderful dining establishment here kind of in a rural area on a farm. The vibe is cozy and casual but don't think that makes the food any less than outstanding. It's a limited food menu but I'd rather have 10 items done very well than 20 with half mediocre. Our server Joy was literally a joy and made us feel right at home. We chose the Korean fried chicken to share and it was perfectly crispy with great toppings for a flavorful bite. I ordered the burger for my main and was really amazed. Super soft bun and burger with the onions and micro greens...heavenly! Although I would get sweet potato wedges with this next time. My Mom really enjoyed her vegetable lasagna, my sis liked her risotto too. Again, lots of flavors in every bite. The desserts to me were just okay. I found the chocolate cake to be dry, and for the price it was underwhelming. But my family enjoyed them anyway. The mandarin corn cake is very interesting! I'm not a big drinker so I had the hot mulled cider which is non-alcoholic...insane! It was a cool spring afternoon so this absolutely hit! My Mom got 2 mugs! I love everything this place stands for - regenerative farming principles, elevated farm to table cooking and alcohol! The ambiance here is breathtaking, especially at sunset! The farm is located in the middle of nowhere, Hunterdon County surrounded by farmland. Parking can be a pain especially around prime dinner time on a beautiful weather day. The recommended attire is "Instagram Farm Chic". Make sure you bring your most trendy flannel and coordinating beanie! All jokes aside, the setting is lovely with an outdoor open kitchen and fire pits next to outdoor seating. There is tent seating with picnic tables and it's quite cozy. The clear sides are down in the cooler weather and they run a thermostat controlled heater. The heater can be loud but it goes on and off so it's not a constant bother. The tent is lined with string lights, further setting the mood. There's also seating inside the main building. The menu here is very creative and ambitious. While it's not executed to perfection, I love the effort and I'll gladly take that over the same ol' same ol'. I enjoyed the bone marrow very much. It came with toasted sourdough bread, a chimichurri sauce, beef cheek carnitas and a bunch of other stuff on top. I wish they would just leave the beef cheek and the majority of the other stuff off. It's overkill and distracting! Bone marrow is delicious enough plain! The scallop dish was creative and flavorful but the scallops were over cooked. The cornbread dessert had an off flavor and I was not a fan. For my drink I chose the Harvest Sky cocktail and it was so refreshing and delicious. All of our drinks and food came out in a timely manner and our waiter, Garrett, was super attentive and constantly checking in to make sure we had what we needed. Love the concept of a cider brewery since I grew up in cider country. Many interesting ciders and cocktails to try. Some average but some really are very good. Try a flight and maybe one of the special ciders to find what you like. Service was really friendly. Chance and the universe conspired that allowed me to stop here in between two events and I was thrilled because I love cider and I loved this place the last time I was here. Things have changed. And it's not a bad change but this isn't a cidery that serves food. It's a restaurant that serves cider, there's a difference. Don't get me wrong, the cider is still good, with lots of choices and the service was great. I got an appetizer and that was delicious. But you can't just rock up and grab a seat inside anymore. Visited this place on a whim with my husband, best friend, and her boyfriend after seeing their reviews on yelp! We live far away and we were in the area. The ambiance was very chill. We loved the woodsy vibes and relaxed casual setting. The only downside of being in a more natural setting is that the flies were ferocious. They must know this is a good spot. LOL. I would say if possible that the owners purchase more fly swatter contraptions we saw them use at the bar! It was a little machine that is set near food that shooes the flies away. Very cool. The food here is superb and the cider has us planning our next visit. We even bought 2 four packs to take home with us from our visit and we've been enjoying every sip! Came by on a Saturday mid-morning with a group of 3 and we were so glad we had reservations...Although all of the outdoor picnic tables were empty when we were seated, they filled up impressively fast. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. We ordered three ciders -- the original, the black tea & lemon, and the devil's harvest. I LOVED the black tea & lemon. The flavor was so unique and one of my favorite ciders I have ever had. The original was tasty, but not anything special, and we were not big fans of the devil's harvest (bit of medicinal undertones from the cherries and cranberries). Food-wise, the menu is fairly limited. We ultimately decided to split the devil's harvest chicken wings and the sautéed broccoli rabe. I have never been a fan of broccoli rabe, but given that Ironbound's is grown and harvested on-site, I wanted to give the dish a try... It was surprisingly tasty and drenched in enough garlic to kill the bitterness. The wings, despite being incredibly flabby, had a nice flavor and the spiced bleu cheese was quite good (coming from somebody who doesn't like bleu cheese!). Coming in at $15 for a relatively small amount of wings, we would likely opt for another menu item next time. After we finished our ciders and bites, we had a lot of fun walking around the farm to see what was being planted and harvested. The place itself is off-beat and in a secluded spot in the woods, with fire pits and outdoor seating in a tent in case it starts raining. This place has so much potential, but the management ruins it So many rules to where you can/can't eat, where you can/can't sit. It's ridiculous! According to their website, walk ins are accepted before 5pm. But once my group got there around 2pm, we got rejected to get a table. Even though there are so many empty tables available. We even told them to let us know if they have any no shows to take their spot. They said no. Only TWO people out of your whole group can sit at the bar ... We were forced to sit in one spot where we're allowed to drink alcohol, but not allowed to eat... whaaaatt??? ‍ Our party had to be separated in two areas of the farm. Cider is good. Bar service takes forever. Service in general is not good. Understaffed. Not well trained. Confused. The bar ran out of glasses to serve drinks They weren't even that busy!!! Fantastic place for drinking and eating especially in the outdoor space. Ciders tasted fresh, not weighted down by sugar, just pure flavor and crispness. We got the (4 cider) tasting which is well worth it. For food, we tried the eggplant with feta, golden raisins, mint, Black and Tan rice, and blackberries which was a unique and exciting dish. We also tried the agnolotti with corn, fava beans, browned butter and lots of sage which was phenomenal. The pasta tasted handmade and cooked al dente. I think the dish was maybe missing the foraged mushrooms (?) which was a slight bummer but it didn't take away from the dish. For dessert, we got the blackened peach with garlic cream and cornbread. The idea was intriguing but it was surprisingly savory and not sure if the garlic really jived. The cornbread was also very crunchy and without much sweetening. We had reservations which I would recommend if you're here for dinner. If you're visiting just to try ciders then there is plenty of outdoor seating to hang out. The cider flight was excellent and I especially liked their seasonal flavors -Cape May Rose and Gooseberry with Ginger. I ended up getting a small growler of the Rose cider to take home as well as a four pack of another flavor. The food itself was excellent and fresh. We shared the burrata salad which was a work of art (complete with edible flowers). The mole tacos from the taco board were excellent too and perfect for sharing.
