The quote from this place came in literally in 6 times more than the lowest quote and 3 times higher than the next highest quote. Take that for what you will. No amount of handwaving and slick talk will convince me that they need that much time in labor and no parts. The time it would have taken them was 8 days - everywhere else was 2-4 days. I had my car taken apart, cleaned, dried, and detailed and out back together to a very high standard for less time and money. This is just a word or warning - shop around. The last time I wrote a review as 2018, so for me to take the time to share about my experience with Sunmark as absolutely life changing is coming from a place a true sincerity of my gratitude for their business. My car has been suffering from internal leaking, everything (floorboards, seats, etc) was perpetually damp, starting to get musky, molding and unsafe to drive in. I took my car to Sunmark and Dave couldn't have been more helpful. He was upfront, gave me a full rundown of what the plan was, gave me fair pricing, and was true to his word with the plan. Thought I wrote a review when Sunmark replaced a convertible top for me in 2019, but looks like I didn't. I had an issue with my top today and Dave fixed it for free, so let me write a combo review spanning the two years since the top has been replaced. So roll back to 2019 and my Audi S5's top was slowly beginning to fail and giving me all sorts of problems. Error codes, top stuck open, etc. Reset procedures found on the internet helped for a while, but eventually I took it to the local Audi dealership who wouldn't work on it and referred me to Sunmark (as that's where they send all their convertibles anyway). The roof material itself was starting to wear through and internal roof liner delaminated long ago, so after some attempts to repair, the decision was made to replace the whole top + mechanism + wiring harness. Not cheap, but Dave gave me a couple of options and we ended up doing it the right way with all new Audi parts. The operation of the convertible top has been flawless since, until yesterday when the top failed to close. Something was getting hung up midway and I couldn't figure out. I swing by Sunmark and Dave tried to troubleshoot in the parking lot with no luck so I left the car with him. My appointment was not scheduled and the shop was full of other cars so I didn't expect him to get to my car for several days. Well, I get a call this afternoon and he's figured out the problem and didn't charge me for his time! Sunmark always has a shop full of expensive cars getting roofs or seats done, and Dave has continued the excellent work his father started when they were at their previous location. read more

Well, they aren't cheap, and they aren't super speedy, but man are they great at upholstery! I've used them twice now to repair seat cusions on my boat, and I swear that the work is so good that I can't even tell which ones they did and which came with the boat. And this is with a complex pattern dierrent fabric types, and different colors. Just amazing work! read more

I bought a brand new 2023 car, I'm the first owner, and I'd owned it for one day when I brought my brand new car by Sunmark Upholstery for an estimate to put leather seats in because the associate I spoke with told me they have to see my car in person to give me an estimate. When this associate came out of the garage to look at my car, he reeked of feces AKA poop. I don't know if he never washes his clothes or if he never showers or if he never washes his hands but he had a thick layer of feces smell emanating off of him. And then he demanded to see the inside of my car and he proceeded to open each door of my brand new car and put his hands all over each and every seat of my car. He squeezed and smeared his hands all over the seat, the back and the headrest of each seat and by the time he was done putting his hands all over my seats, my car reeked of poop. He also had a film of blackish brownish residue all over his hands when he was smearing his hands all over my seats. I don't know if this was from some substance he works with or if this was the source of the feces smell. Anyway, it's been over a month since that Sunmark associate put his hands all over my car's seats and my car still reeks of poop. So of course I didn't agree to let Sunmark reupholster my car's seats seeing as this associate ruined my brand new car by getting his poop smell all over my seats. If I let Sunmark put leather upholstery in, he'd probably get the poop smell on the new upholstery too. So my brand new car went from smelling like "new car smell" before I brought it to Sunmark, to smelling like poop after I brought it to Sunmark. And my car still smells like poop from that encounter a month later. read more

I know nothing about upholstery so I had no idea what I needed or how to fix it. So I grabbed my boat cushions and headed out the door to Sunmark Oh and then I called them to be sure they could see me and my cushions. Lucky for me the voice on the phone was helpful and welcoming. So with that, my path was clear. After a few minutes and being a little lost I found them. I'm terrible with names but the fellow who helped me quickly surmised what my cushions needed. He then explained in detail what my options were and suggested I go to one of his colleagues down the street for a more affordable and practical solution for my repair. These guys are the Sherlock Holmes of leak detectives! I have a 2008 Ford Escape that started leaking intermittently from the roof a few years ago during heavy rains, but this year went into overdrive, dribbling water onto the passenger side and sometimes the driver side every time it rained! Obviously not an acceptable situation here in the PNW. I took it to the dealer 3 times, and though they assured me each time they had found a problem and fixed it (charging me each time), to no avail; still the leak plagued me. Enter Sunmark. They sleuthed out where the leak was coming from--unfortunately, unbeknownst to me (I bought the car used), the sunroof was an after-market addition and had been improperly installed--and they had to do some fairly significant work to re-seat the sunroof assembly. To their great credit, after the first repair, there was still a leak, which they had warned me might happen as one of the parts from the original install was a bit iffy. But they re-did the whole job at no additional charge to make sure that the leak was eliminated. Three weeks and many rainstorms later, and the interior remains dry and snug! I found them to be very laid-back, but efficient, competent, and responsive by phone. I had none of the negative experiences described by some of the reviewers here. I would recommend Sunmark without hesitation if you have a pesky leak--don't waste time and money taking it elsewhere, go to the definitive experts right off the bat! read more

I had a leak on my sunroof that caused a pool of water inside my car. I made an appointment with Sunmark and expected the worst since it took me several days to dry the inside carpet of my car. However, they were able to find the leak, a clogged drain on the sunroof, and cleared it for me with just the initial diagnostic fee. I would highly recommend Sunmark to everybody. read more

My car seat was moving up and down a bit and the backrest also seemed to move a bit. I took it to the Hyundai dealership to get it looked at. They informed me that the car seat trajectory was broken and would need to be replaced at a cost of ~$1,700. I decided to get a second opinion and contacted Sunmark based on the recommendation from another auto shop. I happened to meet Dave who took a quick look at the car seat, and fixed this within 10 minutes by replacing a missing bolt. I was really appreciative of his experience in understanding the problem quickly, and the level of customer service he showed. I will definitely go back to Sunmark if a need arises. read more

I am so grateful to have found Sunmark - they saved me thousands of dollars on a leaky convertible top. I have a 2009 BMW 335i clamshell hardtop that I bought it used and didn't know the top leaked a bit. The dealer almost wouldn't touch it after initially looking at it, and said "you don't even want to know how much that is to fix" saying minimum $2k to fix an (unrelated) seal "just in case" that was it, and if that didn't do it, at least $5k more to replace all the seals. I had thought maybe I would never drive it in the rain considering it leaked even when I hand washed it... Greg and Dave at Sunmark were excellent. They said they would give it their best shot. This type of convertible top is not common and has lots of moving parts (and not a lot of experienced people out there to fix them). Just now they are starting to see more failures. They really did their due diligence on fixing the leak. Every time they made an adjustment, they had to let the sealant dry, then do a 2 hour water test. Narrowing down the cause of the leak took time, but they were thorough, and charged a fair price. They did NOT replace any seals, which would have been a waste of money. The car was kept indoors the entire time. I didn't comprehend at first how long the repair was going to take - but they were good about communicating what was happening with it when I called. They said if I had the time to leave it longer they would like to get it resolved 100%. It's like a puzzle, with many different solutions. Since it was an extra car for us, it was not inconvenient for them to keep it longer. I felt like they had my best interest in mind as they worked on my car. I feel like they were trustworthy. I felt like they are concerned with their reputation and want to do the right things right. I was happy to support a small business, but more so, I was so grateful to find someone who was even willing to look at my car. And, in the end....I have a car that doesn't leak AT ALL anymore!!! read more

Was going to take my car in for a top replacement. Until I was treated with a whole new level of unprofessionalism. I am a automotive mechanic down the street at a local shop. We HAD been referring our customers to sunmark for over 20 years years. Well that ended last week. I sent a email asking about pricing for a top replacement for my personal car. They gave me a quote. I figured since I was in the auto repair industry if they offered any shop pricing. Their response was a whole new level of unprofessionalism. When I told them that they didn't need to react that way and it was rude, instead of apologizing. They made it look like I was the stupid one. In 2018 I was looking for upgrading my car so that I'd have heated seats in my car. After months of searching and researching, I couldn't find what I wanted without looking at a different car. I gave up on the idea until my car service shop told me about Sunmark. I was so pleased to find how reasonable the cost was to have both front seats seat heater installed by Sunmark. I was able to schedule the work pretty soon, the work was completed in one day in January 2019, and the result was great. After I had a car accident in 2020 and a repair shop repaired my car, the heated seats stopped working. Sunmark provided excellent customer service, checked the installation, and fixed the problem without charging me anything even though it was the repair shop not connecting the wires back correctly. For 3 years I use the seat heater every time I drive even in the summer and it has always been functioned well. I love the heated seat! Today I brought my car to Sunmark to check something, and again, Sunmark provided excellent service, got the job done in just a few hours. Thank you Dave! I had a leak in the rear cargo area of my Outback Wagon. Sunmark fixed that leak quickly and thoroughly. A day later, I noticed a drip from the map light in the front that I hadn't seen before. So the customer service representative told me when I phoned after several days of waiting for a quote that I requested online on their form, " That they were just too busy to bother with quoting new work". When I mentioned this to the owner, who happens to also own Mac's Upholstery in Ballard, he became incredibly rude and condescending. Beware of any business that does not care about adding to their already bad reputation and is too busy to concern themselves with customer service. Took in my 99 4 Runner to have headliner replaced and my sunroof repaired. Paul did a wonderful job on the headliner and initially thought the sunroof was fixed. Had multiple issues with the sunroof and would not operate properly. Paul and I went back and forth with this and finally he hired Greg who diagnosed the problem and now the sunroof works beautifully. I cannot believe this place is still in business. I took my 2007 Toyota Highlander there to have the driver's seat cushion replaced because the foam has completely broken down over the years making the seat intolerable for more than 20 minutes. It was either replace the seat cushion or buy a new car. I really love my car so decided on replacing the cushion. Paul convinced me that he could do a better job installing their own higher density foam vs. ordering a replacement seat cushion through Toyota. He said they've been doing this for years and would make my seat really comfortable. I work in sales and drive all day long. I was SO looking forward to getting rid of the pain in my bottom and hips and having a comfortable ride again! I picked up the car and drove 15 minutes home. It seemed better but I knew the true test would be the following day. The next day, after about 25 minutes of driving, my hips and sides of my thighs started to hurt again. I called Paul and asked if the entire seat cushion had been replaced. It turns out, he only replaced the back bottom 1/4 of the seat!!! He argued with me that that was all I asked for. Are you kidding me? Why would I only want 1/4 of the seat replaced? Makes absolutely no sense! He charged me over $300 for 1/4 section of foam. The seat is still a hip wrecker! After going round and round with him, he said I could bring it in and they would fix it. I reserved another rental and brought the car in. He wanted me to tell him specifically how much foam I wanted. I made it clear that I wanted it just like the passenger seat. I assumed he was the professional expert and should know what to do. When I could't more specific, he said he thought he should just order a replacement cushion. That would take another week at least! That would mean the long road trip I had planned this weekend would need to be canceled. I asked again if he could just replace all the foam in the seat tomorrow as planned. He proceeded to argue with me again, saying I needed to tell him exactly how much to build up the seat and when I couldn't, he said he didn't want to do it and I should go to the dealer. He did refund my money but what a pain in the a&*!! Now I'm out the $50 I paid for the rental car, canceled my weekend road trip to see my elderly mother and my butt still hurts like crazy. read more
