Delicious, consistent and incredibly reasonably priced. Mondays is take-out only when you can really get a great deal - a slightly smaller menu but even more reasonably priced. But their full menu is even better! The Brussels sprout appetizer, the chicken scarp and the pork chop with peppers & potatoes are my favorite, not to mention the portions are huge. Americans believe they understand Italian cuisine based on the exceptional reviews. However, most people are misleading the public. This is American food by Italian immigrants that created dishes to survive in the states (similar to what is considered Mexican food by most). There is a disconnect. If there is spaghetti with meatballs, veal parmigiana, penne a la vodka, salmon, sliced white bread with butter and grated cheese on top, etc...we are discussing American cuisine. Overly sauced and cheesed entrees. Nothing like actual food in Italy but for most Americans...this is their knowledge of Italian cuisine. As such, most people infer this place as Italian. Sadly, it is not. Staff is friendly but the environment is in need of a makeover. This will be a one and done for me. read more

Had a wonderful meal tonight at Sunny and Frankies or as my kids call it Corey and Kim's. Corey is in the kitchen cooking the most consistently magnificent food i have had the pleasure to eat and his wife Kim is either behind the bar mixing wonderful cocktail's and welcoming guests or waiting tables. Tonight i had two of the specials. The cucumber, tomato, onion and gorgonzola salad in a balsamic vinaigrette. It's One of my favorites. Each item is fresh and enhanced with the balsamic vinaigrette. As a main i had a breaded pork chop with pasta marinara. Nobody can cook a chop like Corey, cooked but super juicy and tender and the crunchy breading brings it to the next level. And the pasta marinara is not an afterthought it is delicious. The marinara is full of flavor and the pasta is perfectly al dente. What i find amazing is that the food is consistently excellent. I sure did yesterday. We weren't greeted by some plastic corporate automaton. We weren't greeted by some 22 year old Barbie doll. We were greeted by a warm family, and they treated us like long lost relatives. They were so welcoming, so friendly, so honestly glad to see us. I must have been called "Hon" seven times, and hey... I'm a sucker for that. S&F is a family owned casual dining Italian restaurant. On one side is the bar, and on our side was the dining room with perhaps seating for 20 or so. The décor is a dark ceiling, dark paneling on the lower walls, and pale yellow upper walls. They have a few TV's on the wall and a few chalkboards with drink and dessert options. The menu has two sides. Act 1 includes salads and appetizers. Act II has Italian entrees and a few burgers and sandwiches. Act 1 choices will run ($10-15), Act II entrees run mostly in the low $20's, and ACT II burgers and sandwiches are $13 - $14. The complimentary bread was great and fairly unique- generously sprinkled with grated cheese like so much gourmet fairy dust. Our party of four ordered a Simmered Meatball appetizer ($12) in Sunday appetizer with a dollop of ricotta, a massive portion of Veal Parmigiana ($23) with spaghetti, two portions of Country Rigatoni ($19) with a beef and pork ragu, San Marzano tomatoes, and basil oil, and one of the night's specials -Salmon and Mussels Fra Diavlo ($25). None of the entrees included a salad. The food was magnificent. Every shred of the meatballs disappeared. I tasted the rigatoni and loved it. Perfect al dente pasta in a decadent meat sauce. I had the salmon, and it was possibly the best salmon I ever had. It was super moist without any trace of hard edges or overcooking. The fra diavlo sauce was darker than what I'm used to, but I guess that was the result of all that flavor crammed into it. It had the perfect amount of zip I want in a fra diavlo -enough so you know those red pepper flakes are in there, but not enough to set your mouth on fire. I finished up with a coffee, that was wonderful, I mean really exceptional. I liked the way they served the coffee cream -in a little brandy snifter! When we were done, we sat lingering at the table and had a nice conversation with Chef Corey who came out and asked us how we liked dinner. He was a regular guy, without an ounce of pretension. I asked if they had a take-out menu, and learned they didn't, but Chef Corey said- "just call us, I'll make whatever you want". FYI, Sunny & Frankies doesn't have a website, but their Facebook and iDine pages have their menu posted. We really loved our meal here. read more

Don't walk, run to this restaurant! Superb on every level. Had a wonderful experience last night! It was our first time trying this recommended restaurant and it did not disappoint. Love the menu choices. We ordered penne alla vodka and chicken parm as our main entrees, meatballs & ricotta for app and zeppoles for dessert! The food was so flavorful and the presentation was on point. The chef definitely has a passion for cooking, you could tell. Lovely owners Corey, and his wife Kim! I have driven by this restaurant so many times on the way to my son's soccer practice and I finally had a chance to stop in for a meal. I brought my Italian relatives, including two who own restaurants, and we all decided Sunny and Frankie's has some of the best Italian food we've had in a long time. We will definitely be returning. I ordered the pasta special which was extra large rigatoni with a Bolognese sauce. It was divine. My son's penne vodka with chicken was the best we've ever had, and believe me, that kid orders penne vodka everywhere we go! read more

What does one look for in a good restaurant? Sunny Frankies is in the heart of Springdale which for me is today's Mayberry. Springdale is a wonderful community filled with Mom and Pop stores that carry the charisma of a family like atmosphere that many of us crave. Immediately upon arriving at Sunny Franky you are embraced by that cozy feeling. It is obviously a family run business that carries that warm feeling you expect. The staff makes you feel part of the family. The menu seems to be an American with a hint of Italian. The menu is simple but seems to pack a punch with a variety of yummy meals. Desserts are spot on. The wife had the veal special which umm she devoured. Lol. I kept it simple with a traditional hamburger. The prices were acceptable for the good quality food. You do get what you pay for right? If you're looking for a dynamite neighborhood hang out this is your place. The staff is fantastic the environment is warm and invitiing and the owner Angelo is the best. My and my pals had the food there as well and the food was so good Angelo brought the chef Giovanni to meet us and i was very impressed by that. Was very disappointed this past weekend. My wife and I used to frequent this spot every weekend. This weekend, I brought a group of 10 or so in and felt very unwelcome when we were just ordering drinks. Haven't been here in a few years. I was glad to see that they still offer great food at great prices. I enjoyed the roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta and chopped wedge salad. Without a doubt, the best and most underrated restaurant I have been to in Stamford. The meatballs are amazing and the chicken parm dinner was just fantastic. Chef Corey is a great guy. He came to our table and really genuinely cared about what we thought. We had a nice conversation. I still can't get over the quality of the meal and the homey feeling of the restaurant. If you want to feel like you are walking in to someone's home and being served a real home cooked meal, you must try. You will also feel good that you are supporting a local owner who just wants to cook a nice meal for you. read more
