Cherry Street East has been a New Canaan staple since 1977 and is often called the town's "hometown pub." We stopped in for lunch and had a great experience. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was very good. We started with the Cajun Popcorn Shrimp with chipotle dipping sauce, which had a nice kick and was perfectly cooked. For lunch we ordered the El Niño Grilled Salmon Wrap with citrus tartar sauce, lettuce, and tomato in a flour wrap, and the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with lettuce, red onion, and bleu cheese. Both wraps were fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. Overall, a solid lunch with great service and consistently good food. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in New Canaan. 4 stars. read more

Cherry Street East is an absolute staple, and one of my favorite spots to catch up with friends whenever I'm in town. The only challenge/downside is the small parking area as it can be hard to maneuver in, depending on sizes of vehicles parked and how they're parked, but don't be discouraged! If you're going with someone, I'd suggest one person go in to grab a table while the other parks. There is an open parking lot across the road, however this is used by customers and owners of the businesses there. Not sure if parking enforcement checks and tickets, so if you are going to risk it there check for any signs. Every time I've gone for lunch, at opening or an hour into opening, we've been seated quickly. Personally I love the little booths, even with the close proximity of the seating layout you never feel like your conversation is being interrupted by the tables nearby. I love the environment, and how it's a good mix of sunny but dark (even midday). The burger with the English muffin is simple but absolutely delightful. The first time I had it with an English muffin, it really had me questioning why I hadn't tried it sooner. The burger isn't too big, so if you're pretty hungry I'd suggest some fries or another appetizer. Staff have always been friendly and efficient. Never had an issue with placing an order, requesting a refill, or closing the tab. But the staff are also good with not being overly helpful and constantly coming by. The town has quite a mix of restaurants/cuisines to try, but I'd still recommend trying Cherry Street East with their generously priced and classic options. Five of us dined here on a Sunday evening recently after an afternoon concert. It was surprisingly crowded for an early dinner on a Sunday but we were seated quickly. The full house may account for the lackluster, genuinely poor service, because they seemed very understaffed. Even so, the "service" we received consisted only in taking the orders and delivering the food. No drink refills, no pleasantries or check-ins to see if we needed anything, and no delivery of the bill. We had to get the bartender to check us out. The food was good. Everyone liked what they ordered. But I won't be going back. Parking on site is also not great. But I'll park blocks away when both food and service are outstanding.. Not so much here. read more

Fantastic! First time there. We got burgers on English Muffins! This is a cozy pub like environment and so much fun! The staff made us feel quite welcome and the burgers..oh wow. Melt in your mouth good. It turns out, as a local told us later, they are known for their burgers. We did not even know that when we went in! Were just passing by and decided to stop. This is a place I happily recommend and it will not be my last time there. Burgers on English Muffins! Every place should do that! And not only that but they are so good! Prices not bad either. This has been our staple, go to place, for years. We were there often an really enjoyed the food and the service. We moved out of the area a few years ago and really missed it. We hoped that it survived the pandemic. We are really glad to say that it did. I had the turkey reuben with onion rings. The turkey was fresh, the sauerkraut adds a nice tanginess. My husband had the California roll. It never disappoints. It was so nice to be welcomed back by the staff. This is a great place to get a great meal with a terrific staff! read more

The restaurant is on the rustic side. Not terrible but nothing memorable. The waitress was quick to seat us and take care of us. The menu is full of lots of comfort food options. We decided to do several of their appetizers. My girlfriend ordered the filet mug on sliders and I ordered the fried baby back ribs with a basket of fries. He filet mignon sliders were a sizable portion but it only came with Gorgonzola and a slice of tomato. It was cooked at a perfect temperature but it sort of left us wanting a bit more. The ribs were delicious. The fell off the bone and had plenty of barbecue sauce. I enjoyed our lunch but it did not blow me away. Not sure if I will come back to try other menu offerings. read more

This is definitely a good place to come and eat with the family. The atmosphere is casual and laid back and the service is really friendly and fast. The Food is great as well! There's a good selection of traditional burgers and sandwiches as well as healthier salads. We got the fish and chips and it was really good (so was the tarter sauce). The spinach salad which was good as well. In the words of my son, the meatball Parmesan grinder was "great, great, great!". I write a lot about Cherry Street. I've been going there for more than 30 years; it's the place to go in New Canaan for burgers, fries and some fresh vegetables, if that's your thing (it's mine and my girls'). The atmosphere is great pub; one can sit at the bar or in a seat in the back and catch a game on TV, or sit in the front and just enjoy the pub atmosphere. Service is always crisp, and it's one of the places where my girls and I can still get a burger cooked rare. I'm not much on fries, but my girls love them - either regular or sweet potato fries. I always get broccoli instead, and it's cooked perfectly - not over cooked and soft. Last Saturday we ordered the steak with baked potato and broccoli. All were cooked as we ordered and very good. Mind you, the steak is hardly prime, but for the price, it was great and cooked our way. Cherry Street doesn't mind substitutions, so if you want to substitute broccoli for the mixed veggies, like I did, no problem. My first trip to Connecticut for a small pub lunch with the family. We popped in after looking for higher rated spots near us. Cherry Street popped up. We ordered fish and chips and a California roll (a wrap, not sushi!) with a pitcher of beer. The California roll was a little goopy... But the fish and chips? Very well executed. Three pieces (and not small ones) of haddock so it was enough for two to share easily. Service was attentive and helpful. Not included in my rating is a note on wheelchair accessibility...we were pleased with the ramp on the outside but the bathrooms are not accessible as they are up a narrow and sleep flight of stairs. For those who require the restrooms this would pose a significant challenge. This fact tempted me to drop a star, but the staff was as accommodating as possible and if you are able to plan ahead, this issue could be managed - at least a little bit. The place loses some serious juice for its wings, quite mediocre and obviously frozen. BBQ is a tough choice, not always a ton of options, some are really good, others fall flat... CSE is somewhere in the middle. When asked which was better their ribs or their wings, the team said if you try the ribs, your wings will be left overs for tomorrow... sorry to say, both were leftovers 2 days later. read more

I visited a friend who had (relatively) recently moved to the area and didn't know much of the landscape. We wanted a place to eat that was reasonably priced with good food. A quick review of Yelp led us here and it fit the bill perfectly. I had the fish n chips, which were delicious. My friend went with a burger, which she really enjoyed. Our only criticism was that the waiter didn't do a great job of making sure our glasses were refilled....we had to flag him down repeatedly. My friend was truly thrilled to find this place. Cherry Street East is a great local restaurant where Fresh food a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff are the mainstays. Go hungry and be prepared to have a cocktail. No one in our party drank but we will definitely be back. What I love is that there are a wide assortment of choices and if you want a gourmet burger they have you covered, if you really want a filet, bam it is grilled to perfection. Also the apps are amazing. i recommend the filet mignon gorgonzola sliders. Delicious. I had heard for years that they had great burgers. Finally got there and they did not disappoint. I had a plain burger, medium on a fantastic hard roll. It was the roll and the juice of the meat that made is to good.... Pickles are great, Chips were great....my kids love the cheeseburger and chicken fingers. I've been going to Cherrystreet my whole life and it's always great. I've never had a bad meal there. Recently moved back to Fairfield County and went there yesterday for drinks and food. Everything was great from the steak tips to the popcorn shrimp. I brought a friend who got the steak quesadilla and loved it. My girlfriend got the ribs and as usual they were awesome. We sat at the bar and both bartenders were really nice. I had a few Ying Lings and G & T's. Even the customers were really chill and offered to buy my friend and I a round. I left full and happy. Having spent most of the day going to-and-fro in 95/Hutch/Merritt traffic, we needed to find a place to eat, beer, and pass a bit of time by hour 5 or 6. Yelped this charming little number and the day was very much improved. This is a place you should sit at the bar. Great conversation with the bartender and regulars. A lot of times, small places don't like the idea of outsiders sitting at their bar, but this place is an exception. I had a really great turkey burger (this being the only place that serves a really great turkey burger) and my fiancée had a reportedly "very tasty" veggie wrap. When you are looking for a delicious burger, Cherry Street East is the place. The bar / restaurant has been serving some of the best beurgers in the area for years and each day the restaurant hand forms the burgers as well as hand cuts some of the best onion rings around. My go-to burger is the Vermonster, with bacon and Cheddar on an English Muffin. I also suggest if you order on the roll to order the roll toasted, a much better way to go. I have been coming to Cherry Street East my entire life and it is one of my favorites. I used to live abroad and whenever I came to visit my mom, I would go to Cherry Street East for their tasty American bar food! They have great wings, burgers, sandwiches, wings, ribs, etc. The prices are totally affordable. Cherry Street East actually burned down in April 2006 and many, like myself, were worried that they wouldn't rebuild it. If you are in New Canaan, it is definitely worth it to eat here. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant and bar are always packed with regulars who go back for the great atmosphere and tasty food. read more
