There were a lot of great reviews for Sunny Energy when we decided to go with them in December of 2022 and it was one of the reasons why we decided to go with Sunny Energy. I was most impressed by people saying what a great service experience they received. It's now May of 2023, the solar has been installed for about two months. The one hiccup we had with Sunny Energy was in regard to the contract. We were told one payment schedule on the phone and when we received the contract it was a different payment schedule. The salesperson explained that they had changed their payment schedule two weeks prior, and he had unfortunately forgot to quote us the new schedule. After the contract was signed the process was fast and Sunny Energy did everything they needed to do and there were no delays on their part. Everyone communicated along the way. All the communication was professional and timely. When there were delays in the process it was in no way Sunny Energy's fault. The biggest delay was after the system was completely installed and we had to wait for APS to give the Permission to Operate. In fact, once they had approval and permits and could move forward with the installation, they had an opening and they installed four days later. The crew that came out to do the installation was great and did a good job. They were easy to talk to and listened to what we had to say. The installation was rather painless and went well. After the system was installed, we received a phone call and email from what I believe is the head of customer service to schedule a virtual walk through. When we didn't respond and book a virtual walk through on the first email a second one came which was a great follow up. However, I would have preferred an in-person walk-through. I made the mistake of not asking if one was possible and it turns out after talking to Sunny Energy after the fact, I could have requested one. By that time the email asking to schedule came with a link to a video of the walk through and that had enough information, so it wasn't an issue thereafter. Our solar system is generating enough energy now that we are receiving credits from APS and electric bills for $0 with additional dollar credits still on file with them. I am pleased with the solar system that was purchased, the time to install, the work that was done and the system is operating as promised. I am also thrilled with the SolarEdge inverter and the app that goes with it and would highly recommend that people ask for the SolarEdge inverter and support equipment. If I need any additions to my solar system in the future, I will not hesitate to contact Sunny Energy. read more

Let's put it this way. More than likely, we are screwed by this company. My husband and I had purchased solar panels from Sunny Energy a little less than 4 years ago. Things have been great up until we noticed a small leak on our roof about 2 months ago. We've had multiple roofers come and provide an estimate, which they've advised us the leak is coming from underneath the solar panels. They also informed us that the leak appeared to have developed over a few years. Mind you, our home was built 4 years ago. Therefore, we should not have roofing issues this soon. The only way the roofers will fix the issue is if the lower row of panels come off. They recommended we contact the solar company to have them removed. We've attempted to contact every single phone line that we have for Sunny Solar Energy and all of them either go straight to VM or the line is busy. I've also placed multiple work orders to have the panels removed and evaluated for damages to my roof. We have not received one response. We didn't even receive a confirmation that the work orders were received. So we did a little research and found within the past year, people have been having the same issues as us, not getting a hold of Sunny Energy. We also found out that they filed bankruptcy in July of 2024. As you can imagine, we are not happy about this. My last attempt is to visit the office in Tempe, AZ in hopes that someone will be there to talk to me. Definitely not the best way to find out your solar panel company is useless. Then, after many months of troubleshooting, made the discovery that my 9.49kw system was running through an inverter with a max capacity for 7.5. Meaning the inverter size is wrong and my home wiring cannot support 6 of my 26 panels. I have panels that I am paying for, on a loan, that are useless on my roof, degrading in the AZ sun with no other options. Solar is truly THE largest American scam running. UPDATE: Sunny Energy called me back yesterday (8/14/2024) and said they are NOT performing ANY warranty work on solar installations. They recommended calling Tigo to find another installer to complete the repair. Naturally, Tigo says it's Sunny Energy's responsibility. Their contract also says that using any non Sunny energy technician to facilitate the repair voids the warranty. We will be filing a formal complaint through the Arizona ROC, AG office and BBB. I strongly discourage using either company. They are useless after install. Buyer beware! We purchased our Tigo system through Sunny Energy several months ago. A power outage roughly two months (June 2024) ago fried the comm board inside our inverter. I left voicemails with their answering service beginning 8/2/2024, their front desk and on their office voice mail. I have sent several emails, as has Tigo as well. They have not responded to a single touch point I've made in two weeks. When instructed to open the panel to aide Tigo (to troubleshoot. They answered my call) I could smell an electrical burn smell. We invested 67k into our system that is supposed to be warrantied for 15(ish) years, yet after only a few months, we experienced a failure and cannot get a response. read more

I highly recommend Sunny Energy. They are very professional and patient, from the estimate, through the planning permissions, installations, testing etc. I am more technically oriented than most and they spent time with me on the specs etc. In addition, I incorporated one of the first Span curcuit panels in Arizona with the SolarEdge panels, inverters and batteries. This led to some interfacing problems and they worked with Span and Solaredge to work them out. I am very happy with the system now it is up and running. They also installed a charger for my Tesla. There are many Solar Companies in Arizona. Installing solar is not like installing AC or heating as it is still state of the art, so you need a company that is technically competent that you can reply on. My installation was in Sedona and although the company is based in the Phoenix area, there was no problem in them coming out whenever necessary. Finally I would point out, that even after things are up and working, the relationship continues with help in programming battery charging modes etc. One of the SolarEdge batteries failed after a few months and Sunny Edge oversaw the warranty replacement at no cost to me. Sunny Edge encouraged me to be a cover around the batteries to shade from direct sun which I did and is shown in the pic. A really terrific company! read more

Be VERY careful. I signed a contract with Sunny to include my roof replacement in the solar project (new roof was required in order to install the new panels) and they hired a roofing subcontractor to perform the work. We paid Sunny for the entire project including the solar and roof replacement. It is now over 3 months since the project was completed and the subcontractor has not been paid. I spoke with Chris Wood an owner of Sunny and he said it would be paid over a week ago. He now doesn't answer or return any of my calls. DO NOT give them any money upfront! Sunny Engery uses top quality solar hardware -- no Chinese panels or electronics. Their installers and sub-contractors are great. Their warranties are top-notch. Why only 3 stars? Many small to medium-sized companies struggle with communications. They're sold technology solutions that can be useful and efficient, but are never a complete substitute for human interaction. The initial contact and design of our solar system was handled very professionally. When his role was finished, we had no idea who to contact for anything else. We had unplanned issues arise requiring back and forth communication. It was painful and frustrating. We were handed-off to this or that person without finding any one individual with responsibility or complete knowledgeable of our project. We were scribbling names of folks and their function trying to figure out who to talk to, and what was happening. One time, I was transferred to someone who left early for the day. Nothing wrong with that, except my questions about what was happening next, and when, died right there. I had to resort to broadcasting emails to every address I had to get a response. I had Sunny Energy folks get frustrated with me, as I tried to find out the latest schedule of events -- to work into our schedule. Sunny Energy seems to forget customers have schedules too. Overall, communication was not good. Text messaging is fine for direct communication of simple things. There's no guarantee the recipient actually gets the texts. I missed a few while traveling. Calling is a better way to communicate complex issues in a timely manner. Sometimes I'd get a text message saying someone was showing-up to do something -- it wasn't always clear exactly what -- the day before arrival! Sometimes people showed-up without advance notice. We then received an email requesting final payment before the system was up and running, making us wonder if the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. Our system still isn't up and running, so that final payment will have to wait... The fix is so easy. Sunny Energy, PLEASE assign a single point of contact for every project, start-to-finsh. That person communicates everything personally, in a timely manner. Someone who becomes familiar. That's how well-managed service companies execute large projects. First and foremost our inverters went out SIX times, yes SIX times in a matter of a year and we waited a month(still waiting) for them to come fix it, call for a week straight only to find out they filed chapter 11 bankruptcy! Sunny Energy may be the most unresponsive business I have ever worked with. They installed, with great difficult, a high end solar system for me a couple of years ago. I have had problems with the system ever since. They have an answering service screen their calls and you are unlikely to ever get to speak to someone at the company. They do not keep their commitments or appointments. I took time off work to be here when they said they would a tech at my home and they never showed or called. Really, really disappointing. The customer service agent directed me to speak with Taylor. I contacted her at 11:25 am, and she stated that they sent text messages to all leads regardless of consent. read more

Sunny Energy is the real deal! We built a new home in Buckeye and I had three presentations on putting in solar. Mat Thorne was very professional and spent over 2 hours putting together our system that made sense. I love that they are a local company and have their own service and installation team - they do contract any work out. The system is performing above expectation! They installed a solar system for us. The contract said it was for 8400 watts, but the inverter they installed had a maximum output of 7600 watts. When I called them on it, they as much as told me to go pound sand. They are a bunch of lying crooks. DO NOT do business with them! read more

I'm leaving this review because I feel other customers need to be aware. I have had nothing but trouble with this company from the start. It started in the beginning when the company tried to install panels on the wrong side of our house. When the solar panels were finally being installed on the north side of my home they did not put a pitch on the panels to get the proper lighting. When installing the Inverter and load controller they did not check to see if my current electrical box was suitable for solar as it was too small for all the new solar wiring. When the technician came out to finish up some wiring work he found that a "monkey knuckle" electrical connector in the electrical box was so hot that it started to smolder. The technician told me that it was a good thing he got to my house when he did as this could have caught the house on fire. At this time Sunny Energy was now responsible for putting a new electrical box on my house. This could have been so much worse. They sold us on just enough panels to make the sale. We have no room to upgrade due to the size of our inverter. The load controller (which we paid extra for) was supposed to be a seamless addition to the system and was told we would not notice its function. It's quite the opposite. We have since disabled the load controller, due to this our electric bill is higher as we are paying more for peak hours and are not seeing any benefit to having solar. We are stuck in a contract with SPR and our demand rate is higher because of the solar contract. We now pay for solar panels (system) and a higher electric bill. When we asked about the load controller during our sales meeting, we were told that this would have no effect on us. This is not true and we have had to shut off our load controller to get our chores done throughout the day. This past week I received an email stating my inverter was no longer working and that it needed to be replaced. I was told that I had to pay $150.00 to have the company replace it and without prepayment they will not replace it. I have a warranty that covers parts but have to pay for the installers labor as that is only covered for 5 years. I asked the installer how much It was to install the new inverter and he said $100.00 meaning, Sunny Energy charged me $50 dollars more than needed. I'm unable to use an outside company for installation or it will void my warranty. There has be no solutions made to us regarding any of the matters at hand. I would never recommend solar to anyone after this experience. It's more of a financial burden than a benefit. If I could have Sunny remove their solar off my home and clear my loan I would do it in a heartbeat. Please do your homework before doing business with Sunny Energy and installing solar. read more

I am so very grateful for Sunny Energy! When Justyn 1st came to my home he was very pleasant. I explained to him that he would have to come back at a later date and he did just that. I can't say enough good things about this company. I worked with them when I purchased my home in Arizona in 2022 and it was the best investment I did for myself and my home. To date I've never paid an electric bill. My Solar panel system was set up perfectly for me by the sunny energy team and they we very diligent through the process to keep me up to date. Installation went great when we did get them installed, however, when going over everything upon purchasing and providing APS bills, we were told by the sales representative that with the system he recommended we would effectively be replacing our APS bill: we would receive credits in the winter months and the summer months would have some cost too them depending upon the heat but we would not need to change our energy habits. We've had this system for 4 years now, and I have yet to see anything like what was promised when it was originally sold. In June my APS bill was $300 and combining that with the loan payment for the panels, we are paying more with solar than we would if we didn't have solar at all. I received a $22 solar credit through APS for the month of June. When I called to ask about what could be done, I was told that the monitoring on my solar was not working for over A YEAR. They scheduled a time to come out and fix this issue, but nobody showed. I called to inquire where they were, and they told me I had been rescheduled for a different day. I provided a years worth of my APS bills to show that we weren't getting anywhere near what we were told. I was told by Melanie that the analysis data wasn't recoverable and they would need 3 months of data to be able to do an analysis. I emailed her back stating everything I've written up to this point in this review: How we felt lied to and taken advantage of. I've tried calling 5 times only to be told that she was on the other line and then that she was away from her desk, and left my contact info each time but I have yet to hear back. All I want is what we were told that we were purchasing, but now we are very literally stuck with the bill with what seems like little to no recourse. read more

However I can personally grade the Sunny Energy process insofar as representation of sale, installation, and customer service. The Sale: From the time the sales rep. (Sean) knocked on my door, his representation was flawless. He was humble, thoughtful, professional, polite, knowledgable, and was quite sincere in my best interest. In other words, he did not try to ingratiate himself on me to sell me more than what I actually needed, something I experienced with another company who also provided me a quote for like services. He told me he would guide me every step of the way and that he did. I had questions for him throughout and his response time to every message I left him was actually impressive. The point of sale and signing of the contract was smooth and very convenient, as everything was done via email and Docusign. Grade: A+ The Installation: They promptly surveyed my house, provided me plans for an efficient system that was based on my usage history and future need. My system of 20 panels was installed in just 3 hours. The crew was very efficient, and the Lead was personable, and communicated very well in telling me exactly what they were going to do. He also was happy to answer all the questions I had for him throughout the installation. Grade: A Customer Service: In my opinion customer service is what separates the good from the rest in a competitive field. Just as in Sunny Energy's sales representation, which in my experience was flawless, so was their customer service. Communication was a big part of this, as I consistently received emails and texts regarding the process of my project, or confirming an appointment. The communication was not only consistent, but prompt, I never had to contact them regarding the process of installation. Whether during the project regarding invoicing, or as a post project customer service follow up, every employee I spoke to was super personable. I could tell that these people actually like their jobs and the company they work for. Grade: A+ Sunny Energy over and above all these fine attributes is a philanthropic organization. Proceeds of their sales are charitable to very worthy organizations such as St. Jude's Children's Hospital and The Give Power Foundation. Nothing tells me more about the character of this company than this. It is no wonder why my project and interaction with everyone involved was well pleasing.
