My son was referred by his orthodontist after she adjusted his spreading apparatus and noticed softness in his teeth from lack of being able to reach it with a brush. The staff was friendly and this is a place definitely set up for kids to feel comfortable. The waiting area has a TV playing a kid friendly movie complete with a plethora of plushies and two little chairs made for toddlers to feel special and sit and wait calmly. We were escorted in, my son was x-rayed and we consulted with a dentist who suggested filling the THREE cavities that were delving. We talked about options for numbing agents and made a follow up appointment. Inside each room there is a TV mounted on the ceiling so little ones can focus on a movie and not on someone rutting around in their mouths. The filling procedure was a success and my son, who was not liking the numbness he was feeling and semi-freaking out because of it, got a really cool balloon animal and a friendly staff that made the situation as easy as possible. I highly recommend them to anyone with a kid - especially an active one - who needs dental care. read more

We have been going to Dr. Park's office for over 4 years now and they are still amazing and my kids love the entire staff. Specifically, my youngest son is autistic and super sensitive, non verbal. Somehow, Dr. Park can get his cleaning done for him and get his check up done. Dr. Park is the absolute best. But I have five children... and Dr. Trinh and Dr. Kim are just as gentle, friendly and patient. My kids definitely have their favorites! If you sat my kids down it would definitely be a fun and entertaining debate on who, is the best but in my book, all the doctors there are . I came for an appt and the front door was locked. I tried calling 8 times maybe they moved or closed for the day but there was no answer. No note on the door or whatever. I went down to 2nd floor and walked thru the entire hallway to see if they moved because there were people doing construction that day, but didn't find anything so I went up the 3rd floor again and found another parent trying to open the door. After waiting 10mins, I almost left but a girl opened the front door. I'm assuming they were on lunch(?), if so it would be nice to put a sign on the door closed for lunch between this time and time. I don't have any problems with the dental assistants but the girl working the front I think her name is Jeanette or Janet needs to work on her customer service skills. My son had a filling fall out a year after it was done here. We brought him in and our insurance didn't cover it because it was within 2 years of being done. This office would not in good faith cover their own work, so we had to pay completely out of pocket to get it redone. The dentist even said she wasn't sure why it fell out, but had no problem charging us full price to redo the work. My 5 and 2 year old love coming here because of the bright rainbow colored walls and the wonderful balloon animals and goodies they hand out. The hygienist is very kind and patient with the kids and Dr. Park is informative and gentle with my little ones. My only qualm is the parking. The past two times I had to pay for parking, even after I received validation passes from the receptionist. Why is that? Do I need to monitor my time there and ensure that I receive enough parking passes to cover the fee? Terrible policy of not allowing parents during Dentist consultation. The reason I scheduled an appointment in the first place was so that I could express my concerns to the Dentist. But nope! Parents are not allowed inside with children. I was just told that my son would have to go by himself, so of course I canceled our visit rightaway despite filling out paperwork and waiting for 30 mins. I was never told of this policy in the 2 weeks leading up to the process of booking an appointment to right now!! I don't like leaving bad reviews, but our experience today after having 2 other bad experiences here I think warrants this review. It's a lot of small instances that add up to show that the practice isn't run that well. Our very first visit to Sunny Hills Pediatric Dentistry was scheduled at 9:00am - we show up 10 minutes early because in the past it's been standard practice for medical appt to show up a few minutes early to your appt to fill out paperwork and the like. However, the door was locked, and we did not see any employees at the front desk through the front door window. We tried knocking, we tried calling, but there was not an answer to either. A few minutes after 9:00am, the receptionist showed up and let us into the office, where we then see there was another employee in the office (out of sightline) that just ignored us and another family that had showed up for their appt? The rest of the appointment was very nice and smooth so we just thought that was a one-off. The rest of our first appt went well and everyone was friendly, so we decided to then ask if they took autistic patients to see if they would treat my other son who is autistic. They said they did, and I was like great! But I just assumed if they said that they took autistic patients, that they would make some kind of accommodation for them like be more patient with them or skipping some of the more sensory-overloading procedures. But parents with autistic kids or any kind of special needs child, please do not go here!! I actually think this office will be relieved not to treat another kid with special needs - just say you don't take them if you do not have experience treating special needs children. They treated my autistic son like a NT child, and I could feel them getting frustrated when my non-verbal son couldn't follow the hygienist's' instructions quickly enough. They just did the cleaning as quickly as possible even when I asked if we could take a break as my child was scream crying. The way my son was clinging onto me (for dear life) after that appointment was something I had never experienced before or since. I switched him to a new dentist, and now I need to find a different dentist for my other son after today's appt. Today's appointment was not horrific in the slightest, but rather it was a lot of small infractions that really display their lack of care. In the past, the hygienist would take care to explain what was happening during the appt, especially during the xray, but not today. Today the hygienist told my son to open wide, and tried shoving that plastic monstrosity in the back of his mouth to get the molars xray. My son is 5, he doesn't remember what to do at the dentist, and all of sudden, without any explanation or warning, this lady is trying to shove a giant piece of plastic down his throat. He has a really bad gag reflex that had developed in the past few months which I tried telling the hygienist politely, but she didn't acknowledge me at all. She then just tried shoving the plastic back in him mouth, and only stopped when he started gagging badly and tearing up. I then again said he has a really bad gag reflex to which she again said nothing to me, had her back to me the entire time. I asked if they had something he could throw up in because he looked like he was on the brink, but again she did not even acknowledge my presence. She silently took his front teeth xrays, and moved us to the cleaning area. I know this is minor, but I the hygienist had her hair down the whole appointment. Her butt length hair was not tied up, just flowing everywhere - even during my son's cleaning she didn't put up her hair! It was falling on him - not a lot, but strands. It just feels very unsanitary. But the dentist herself didn't say anything to the hygienist about putting up her hair, so I didn't feel like it was my place. During the cleaning the hygienist again didn't speak a word to me or face me or tell what procedure she was going to do. The only words she said to my son were "open up" "wider" "good job" when usually we get some type of, "Hey we're going to start cleaning your teeth with this now" or "This thing my look scary but it just shoots out water to help me clean your teeth." She didn't take any effort to reassure or relax the patient at all. This is another minor thing, but at the end of his appointment he didn't get to go into the treat/toy drawer when I saw several other children going to that drawer after their appointment. I even saw other children getting balloons! The last thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that the hygienist, dentist, and even the receptionist were almost scolding me for not forcing my kid to get his back morals x-rayed. It just didn't work out this appointment - sorry you couldn't bill my insurance I guess? We're going to try to find a dentist office that actually likes kids and treats them like people to be treated, and not another insurance to bill. read more

I really wanted to wait until I knew if my child could handle other dentists offices or not before I fully judged them, just to be entirely sure that my child wasn't the one who was sensitive. With that being said my child has successfully had treatments at another dentist office. I absolutely cannot stand this place. They have VERY young adults, fresh out of high school working with your children which is very concerning especially because they are not at all experienced. The reason they do this is because it allows them to pay them the bare minimum, and you can definitely tell that they're getting paid that because of their bedside manner with children. Dr Kim Thrinh worked on our child. My child kept letting Thrihn know that she was experiencing pain and the "Dr" kept at it with my child screaming and all, she was even giving my child attitude letting them know "you need to stop" also while assuring me it's normal. By that point I stepped in and didn't let them go any further. To which Kim Thrinh rolled her eyes and gave a quiet laugh. Please do not bring your children here. If you had a different experience then I'm very happy you didn't have to go through this however I'd never in a million years suggest this place. Also front desk is extremely rude? Why? Because like I said barely getting paid as they are very inexperienced. read more

Brought my son here, he tends to be very scared of the dentist. He has autism and sensory overload can be very overwhelming. Dr park as well as the dental assistants were very gentle and kind they made the visit extremely pleasant for my son. We do NOT recommend this dental office. Front office staff is unfriendly, and I would even say snobby, every time we speak with them over the phone to make appointments. We had 3 early Saturday morning appointments, were 2 minutes late and all three of us were told to reschedule. This is after we explained to both the staff and the dentist that it was not an easy task waking the kids up early on a Saturday morning and driving 20 minutes to get there. As a healthcare provider myself, I think two of the most important qualities of healthcare providers are empathy and compassion and I think the staff and that dentist who work here LACK both. This office's change for the worse happened 2-3 years ago so after going here for over 12 years, we are taking our kids to a different one. This review is long overdue since my daughter (age 10) has been coming here since her toddler years. I don't live in Orange County, so I started off my daughter's early dentist visits to pediatric dentistry's near my neck of the woods. I wasn't very happy. There are offices that book multiple clients at the same exact time so you end up sitting in the waiting room for extensive amounts of time. There are also dentists out there that either up-sell you, or sound plain unsure of their recommendations. There are offices that seem a touch unorganized and unclean. So yeah, these are things all mamas probably look for when choosing a pediatric dentist. After MANY attempts, I finally found the best dentist for my daughter here at Sunny Hills. * Dr. Park is extremely good with kids. His incredibly gentle nature has a very calming effect on even nervous children. * Office is spotless, very modern and up-to-date, and has a wonderful play area up front. * Dr. Park thoroughly explains any problems your child might be having, then he gives you multiple options for the parent to decide on. His approach is so professional and ideal, because you are well informed of the situation, then you can decide what is best for your child from his guided opinions. This removes any up-selling I've encountered from other dentists in the past. * The entire staff is so good with kids! * Free and plentiful parking * There has never been a wait time more than a few minutes. * And lastly, and most importantly, Dr. Park really knows what he's doing, hands down. I'm one of those crazy mamas that does research on a doctor's education background and goes in for second opinions on everything, and I discovered Dr. Park is truly the best of the best. read more

I brought my two sons (1.5 and 3.5) for their first ever dentist appointment. We saw Dr. Trinh and she was very nice and friendly but most of our time was spent with who I assume is the dental assistant or dental hygienist - the one that walked us back and did the cleanings for both kids. She is the reason for the low rating and why I will not be returning here. I don't know her name because she never bothered to introduce herself. She was rude from the moment she opened the door to let us in. We had been waiting in the waiting room and I had just opened up string cheese for the kids because my 1.5 yo was melting down and 3.5 yo said he was hungry and I didn't know how long the wait would be. The first thing she said to me after calling us up was: "you gave them food?" to which I replied yes because my youngest is crying and I didn't know how long the wait would be. She then just turned around and led us into a room. She somewhat tried to be friendly but she clearly is not meant to work with kids (or adults for that matter). She was short with my kids and even yelled at my 1.5 yo for touching the air purifier. She was horrible at giving instructions to them (she would pat the space above their head and say "can you move here" instead of asking my 3yo to scoot up bc he clearly can't see her hand while already laying down), she knew it was their first time yet she didn't take the time to show my 3 yo what she was going to do or bother explaining anything to him, she was short with me when asking me questions and if I wasn't sure of something, when my 1 yo was crying she seemed annoyed and would snap "is it his nap time or something?" It's honestly appalling that they let someone like her even engage with customers. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because Dr. Trinh was really friendly and good with the kids but our time with her was only about 5 minutes. It's really a shame because we went here because of all the good reviews - all of the good reviews seem to be for Dr. Park or other dentists so maybe they have different assistants that are better with children. My special needs daughter did her first cleaning here today and they are so patient and accommodating. I was worried a little because I kept catching voicemail when trying to confirm my appointment but it was awesome. There was plenty of kid friendly distractions around. Lots of room for her wheelchair. They even know how to make a balloon animal as a reward! They got us in early. And... what's the most impressive is that we left something there 6 months ago from our first initial consult they kept track of it and gave it back to us upon check in today! Amazing!! read more

I had been taking my older daughter here for about 2 years and we didn't have any major issues (although parking really sucks). It may have been because my oldest didn't seem to mind going to the dentist and didn't put up a fight. And although we didn't have issues, it was always just a decent experience -- nothing spectacular. When I first brought in my younger daughter at 2 years old she was terrified. Crying and scared (to be expected for her age). The hygenist did not patiently try to calm her or call in the dr for some back up (or maybe she should've come in at first?). She asked me to pin her down right away which made for a much more traumatic experience. Anyways, I knew I wasn't happy so I went elsewhere 6 months later. Although my second daughter was still scared, the new dental office was much more patient and used many more staff (including the dentist herself) to make the process go much more smoothly. Much less tears and a better experience! The dentist was also much more engaging with my older daughter which she enjoyed too. I just never felt that personal level of care and concern at Sunny Hills. It takes a special and patient personality to work with kids in the dental field. I just wasn't impressed with the care we received here and am happy that we found a new office! read more

Loved our visit to this dentist. They were very patient with my 5 year old who didn't enjoy getting the x rays. He's also not a fan of the teeth cleaning as he says he doesn't like the way it tastes. They are fast for a reason. They refused to do x-rays on my 4 year old daughter because they said they don't do them on children that young. Ummm what? She had visible tooth decay and they refused X-rays. Also the waiting room is not kid friendly. There is nothing for the kids to play with except a plexiglass that blocks every two seats. Wow. Let me start by saying that my kids went to a different pediatric dentist last year. I found them on Yelp and the visit was fine but it didn't seem great. So we went to see Dr Park at Sunny Hills (our friends love it there) and what a difference. No only was the entire staff extremely friendly, they did such a great and thorough job cleaning my kids teeth, showing me x-rays, explaining what to expect in the future, etc. It was way more care than the previous dentist. The office layout is excellent and so accommodating for the kids. And the best part - the balloon artists! Everyone can make balloons for the kids and I thought that was such a fun and unique touch. I came here through the recommendation of my friend. I was going to 7 Day Dental and I was super unhappy. I couldn't imagine getting my teeth done there so why would I take my little girl? So, I asked around and my friend said this place was perfect for small children. PRO's -clean -location is great -staff was fabulous and were awesome with my kid -all the equipment was up to date -the whole office was completely catered to children so it's super comfortable for kids and they forget they are at the dentist -they did a very thorough job unlike 7 day CON's (i didn't let it affect the stars because it's really not their fault) -you get charged for parking in the structure and it's pretty much the only place available. After they were done cleaning her teeth she got a balloon made and I thought that was so unique and cute. read more

Dr. Park is out for insurance money - BEWARE. My 4 year old, who brushes twice a day, and has overall good dental hygiene, went here for a check up in March. After a set of xrays and a very short visual exam, Dr. Park said that my daughter had 7 (seven) cavities!! I was beside myself. I just couldn't imagine how that would happen. He then told me that they would have to give her a sedative to get the dental work done. Since they had to get the preauthorization before doing the work we left. Two weeks later we got the preauthorization and our portion would be $300 out of pocket!! I changed offices and got a second opinion with a second set of xrays. Turns out she only has 1 (one) cavity!! I couldn't believe what Sunny Hills Pediatric was trying to get away with. I have reported them to the insurance company. I also agree with Vivian C.-previous poster- that said he was very unnatural with my daughter and didn't seem to listen to my questions or concerns.
