Barnacle Bistro - the most amazing tuna melt i've had in my life and pretty good fish and chips (garlic fries!) and hazy ipa, fruit beer

Probably not a typical experience. They mentioned they were closing for a remodel in the coming…read moreweeks so things may not be the norm. Even though they had a big display of beer tap handles....they seemed to have a very narrow selection of brews when we visited today. My bride ordered the "Fish and Chips" ($26) - which was grilled Cod. She was not partiularly pleased with her selection saying the fish was not flaky (but more chewy). I went with the Wasabi Fish Tacos ($24) - also grilled, and they were good. We thought the place seemed a little on the expensive side, but loved the vibe/atmosphere and would come back again!

This place had a wait when we arrived because they are short staffed (who isn't these days). The business is veteran owned and they were extremely kind and added us to the list knowing we will be seated around closing time. The tuna melt blew me away! If we are ever in the area, I will be returning for this! The fish and chips were light, flaky, crunch and delicious as well. A tiny more salt and this would be the ideal receipe! I throughly enjoyed the side salad as well. It had a hint of bitterness (in thinking from the finely chopped kale) and the vinegar made it so I didn't need to add the ranch dressing. It was perfect! I would skip the garlic fries. We sat outdoors on their cute patio type enclosure. It was a little chilly but we had our sweaters! Overall, great stop and I felt good supporting a local small business as well!

However, on this particular day, there was a special cruise up the river that allowed dogs. It was actually part of a larger corgi dog event that was happening at the RV park we were staying at. When we found out about it, we signed up. Our little pup loved the boat ride, kinda like a dog who likes to stick his head out the window, ears blowing back, when you're driving down the road. I had a firm grip on her though, and she wasn't going anywhere. You get to see a lot of great wildlife and beautiful wild land scenery.

What an excellent way to end my summer break!…read more One Thursday morning, my partner and I sat in the living room with our coffee and began discussing adventures we could have before returning to school. He suggested Jerry's Rogue Jets in Oregon, recalling how much he enjoyed it as a child. So, we looked up the Wilderness Whitewater Tour and found four tickets available for the next day (Friday) at 11:30. He booked a hotel, and we drove to Oregon that Thursday afternoon. The tour, which departed from the Port of Gold Beach, took us through the scenic Rogue River Canyon. As we rode, the captain shared fascinating stories about the river's history and wildlife. He executed many fun, quick turns and dips that splashed us with water. Luckily, we were sitting in the back, so we didn't get as soaked as those in the front. Our first stop was in Agness, where we switched boats and were entertained by Captain John. We also had to wear safety vests during this second part of the tour. This time, we got thoroughly drenched, but I still enjoyed it. I just wish I had brought an extra set of clothes. Our daughters, who were sitting in the middle, complained that they didn't get wet enough, even though their hair and clothes were soaked. I guess they were hoping to be completely drenched. After returning to Agness, it was time for a meal at Cougar Lane Lodge. It was convenient that food and drinks were included in the price! While alcohol cost extra, we didn't feel like having cocktails or beer. The lunch was surprisingly excellent! The adult meal had a variety of choices, and my partner opted for the BBQ plate, which included ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, along with a muffin, beans, and coleslaw. Delicious! I chose the cheeseburger with fries, which was also tasty. I regretted not selecting the BBQ plate, but I was satisfied with my burger. Fortunately, my partner couldn't finish his meal, so I was able to have a few bites of the tender meat. After our hour-long lunch, we returned to the boat. This time, the captain did fewer quick turns and dips, but it was still enjoyable! He continued to share information about the area, himself, and the animals in the wilderness until we made it back to the Port of Gold Beach. It was an incredible boat ride!

I got a beer and the fish open face sandwich with sweet potato fries. The fries were nothing special. I think the sandwich would be great with the option to change the cheese type. I would love to try it with swiss cheese. The sandwich was good and tasted fresh very little seasoning so you really got to taste the fish and it was yummy. Nice big bathroom that was clean. View was not really anything good and the windows were dirty from the salt air.

Upon arriving the parking lot everything smelled pretty good, which was great. We checked in and waited over 30 minutes to be seated, busy night no reservation totally understandable. Once seated we sat there for almost another 40 minutes before a waitress would even look our way. I understand things get busy but walking past a table that has been waiting without even an acknowledgment, offer for a drink, or even a comment of "we'll be right with you" was definitely disappointing. Like I mentioned earlier, I usually love supporting small restaurants. And the food smelled good so we stayed waiting. We finally order our food, by then another half hour has passed before we get our food, which was overall underwhelming. I ordered a filet mignon which honestly seemed more like a sirloin. The crust and cook on it was good, although the flavor was lacking. I enjoyed their vegetables and mash potatoes far more than the steak itself. My partner ordered a prime rib whose only saving grace was the au jus it was served with. Overall, we felt very disappointed with the service. The food was okay but I personally wouldn't return considering the price point.

Avigail was our wedding planner, day-of coordinator, and florist for our perfect July 2025 wedding…read more We enjoyed every aspect of working with Avigail: her resources to the greater event planning community, recommendations of vendors and potential locations, general experience in wedding planning, and her eye for floral and event design. She and husband Noel worked together on our wedding setup and day-of coordination. Between the two of them and the service team they brought, every aspect of the day was covered and super easeful for me and my husband. Noel was especially helpful for set up and A/V, which was a big relief for us because we did not hire a DJ or MC. The entire team, from set-up and service to breakdown, was incredibly professional and made the day feel seamless. Avigail's florals were jaw-droppingly beautiful and to this day we get compliments from our friends and family. We were looking for a mix of tropical meets romantic for our bouquets and table arrangements. She hit the nail on the head for absolutely every arrangement (see photos). A day-of coordinator is the most important vendor you could look for, and we couldn't recommend Avigail more! As far as florals go, there is NO better option locally than Avigail. She has the experience, resources, and natural talent to meet any and all budgets, visions, and expectations. You truly made our wedding the best day of our lives! We cannot thank you more.

Avigail is absolutely incredible! Our wedding wouldn't have been the same without her!…read more From the moment we started planning, she listened so carefully to my vision and brought it to life in a way that completely exceeded my expectations. Every single flower was stunning--I am still in awe. Her attention to detail was impeccable. From the color palette to the placement of every arrangement, she understood exactly what I wanted. She jumped on calls with me every single week to make sure we were always on the same page. That level of dedication and communication made the entire process feel so much more manageable. On the day of the wedding, I didn't have to worry about a thing. Everything ran so smoothly, it was clear how much thought and care she put into every element of the day. If you're looking for someone who has the talent to make your dream wedding a reality--hire her. We're still getting compliments from our guests about how beautiful our wedding was. Thank you Avigail for making our day so beautiful and unforgettable!
