12 out of 10!! My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere - the cleanliness and timeliness of service was top notch. The food was excellent - we had the Traditional Breakfast and the Waffle Sandwich (special for the day) - both were excellent. First off, this business is CASH ONLY, which is ok, but the staff MUST SAY THIS PRIOR TO SERVING or EVEN ORDERING food. For the food, it was your typical hash browns and eggs. I got the stuffed hashbrowns, supposedly with sausage but there wasn't any unfortunately. Coffee for a diner type was good. The waffles are good but 12 bucks? No way.....very expensive for a waffle. The monte cristo needed more cheese melting over the deli type ham. Was ok, not great. The fruit parfait was actually the best thing we ordered. Service was good, minus the fact she told us it was cash only AFTER we ate our food. The atmosphere was ok, minus the awkward POOPING DOG picture up. All in all, too expensive for the food received. Breakfast review only. I have had the pleasure of dining at Sunnyside several times. Very good pancakes and French toast. Excellent thick cut bacon. The omelets are pretty good as well. The bread is freshly baked in house and cut thick. With that said they only serve one slice of toast with their omelets which is a little stingy. How about 2 slices? The space is very casual with a farmhouse vibe. The servers are always friendly and welcoming. Sunnyside remains as my go to breakfast spot when in Boyne City. read more

I love when I find my version of a five star restaurant. We had brunch today at Sunnyside in Boyne City. Our first time and it won't be our last. It was so good. Because I want this place to do well, I would like to offer some helpful tips. First thing first...offer good coffee. Second: go all the way... if you're going to offer good toast,offer good homemade jam to go with it (not crappy Smuckers). If you're going to make homemade gravy from scratch, make homemade biscuits as well (not Pillsbury). If you offer corned beef hash, make sure it doesn't come from a can. If you prefer to offer subpar quality items and cut corners, then price accordingly. If not, you need to up your game if you're going to survive. Research the restaurants that are doing well and find out what they do differently. Back up those beautiful farm pictures (on your wall) with real farm fresh food. read more

We stopped in this morning at 8am for an early breakfast before going back to ski at Boyne. Our server Nick was super friendly! We ordered a basic breakfast and build your own omelette. Both were very good! We liked the homemade bread!! We asked about the breakfast special and it was a waffle with vanilla pudding (almost like a donut taste!) We didn't order one but since they were taking a pic of one for their social media (I'm guessing) Nick gave it to us to try. We thought that was very thoughtful! Just had my fourth breakfast meal here in two weeks time. Today was just as good as the past three. That shows consistent quality. These are real people serving real food we all love! Spoke with Kirk one of the owners today, and he is what you want a restaurant owner to be, Involved and caring! This place is WAY overpriced. The food is not worth the price & it wasn't a very clean place. Definitely disappointed with our experience. Among other things, they charge 4 dollars to add chocolate chips to pancakes. I can buy a whole bag of chocolate chips for less than 4 dollars. read more

If you want breakfast, Sunnyside is the place to go. Nearly everything is made in house and presented beautifully. Food quality is held at a high standard (don't be surprised if the eggs are re-done because they didn't meet the cook's expectations), and the staff and owners are friendly and strive to ensure you have a good experience. Far from fancy dining, Sunnyside has a casual atmosphere where you can relax, sip your coffee, and bring your kids and parents together for a late morning meal. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, though my personal favorites so far are the Market Breakfast, Quiche of the week, and the Sunnyside Avocado Toast. Sunnyside also operates a food truck all day Friday called Side Hustle outside of their building. They mostly run fish tacos nowadays, but occasionally something new may pop up, so drop by for that too! read more

Our first visit here. Food was pretty good. I was disappointed as I ordered the Market Breakfast (pigs in a blanket) & said no syrup or sugar on top just butter. They put powered sugar & no butter. It took about 5 minutes to get two butter cubes. The worst part is we paid with credit card & were charged an additional 4% fee. Me and my family came in one morning to get breakfast and after clearly being understaffed were told to wait. Which is certainly understandable. Although the wait was over 45 minutes when the restaurant clearly had open tables. Following this we were asked to stand in a section of this restaurant and wait. After about 20 minutes a staff member rudely approached and says "you guys are messing with the flow of our business by standing here, so we're going to have to ask you to leave if your on the wait list", then walks away. We were told to stand there, then we're told that we were messing up the "business" by doing what we were told. Definitely not eating at a place like this. read more

Came in with two friends an hour before closing for a quick meal. Waitress Krash was beyond kind and attentive, leaving sweet handwritten notes on our receipts, but an employee behind the counter, upon receiving our orders, referred to us as "three white bitches" and loudly complained to his coworkers about making our food. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time and it felt very targeted, especially when he kept glaring up at us through the window into the kitchen. I had to convince my friends to stay and finish our food because the atmosphere made them feel so uncomfortable. Our first visit was Saturday 10/10. This place was AMAZING!!!! Such a cute little quaint place. They even offer outdoor seating but it was a bit too chilly for us on our visit so we opted to sit indoors. The wait wasn't too long. I think we waited about 20 minutes. You can't wait inside due to COVID restrictions so they took our phone number and called us when our table was ready. The wait went fast as the restaurant is located in a cute little downtown area so we walked and browsed the neighboring stores. We also too a short walk down to the water. The area is really picturesque. Free street parking is available. The food was delicious!!!! We all got something different and everyone loved their food. We ordered the stuffed hash browns, the traditional breakfast, biscuits and gravy and French toast. All four of us ladies finished all of our dishes plus two rounds of Mimosas The coffee wasn't bad either. It was the perfect way to start our girlfriend's 40th birthday celebration! The prices were very reasonable. I don't mind paying for good food and good service. Now, let's talk about the service. Katie C was our server. She was absolutely wonderful! She was very kind, attentive, personable and had a sense of humor. We just adored her. We sat down to eat around an hour or so before they closed but we didn't feel rushed. Some customers came in a few minutes before closing time and I even overheard Katie tell them they were welcomed to be served. Now that's customer service! When and if I'm ever in the area again from Chicago, I will definitely stop in as well as recommend this hidden gem to others when they visit. read more

Price does not equal food. Although our food was tasty, portions were very small - prices were very large. There was a charge for using a credit card on top of it all. 2 people for $42 with no sides. I was sad my omelette did not come with hash browns and just one small slice of toast for $14. The traditional breakfast was also fairly tiny. Service was good but we will not be coming back. I'd rather go stop at the store down the street and buy my own bread and eggs for $6. Definitely made to rob menu of tourists' pockets. No way locals eat here. read more

This was awful. When the hostess asked our name and I told her. She said I didn't need to be rude!!!! I only said my name. She said we had to wait outside. There was lots of room. And several tables. Visited our table to chat and give us advice on things to do in the area and brought us complimentary fries. He also walked around the restaurant passing out free beer samples. I'm in Boyne City for an extended period of time and have stopped into Sunnyside on two occasions. Both times we had a wonderful server, Leal. The food was ok, not the best. The first time I had the sausage gravy and biscuits (a favorite of mine across the country)and although the gravy was tasty enough, it was a bit too runny for my taste. It was topped with a fried egg which I did enjoy. The second time I had bacon and avocado roll up and although the bacon was thick it was a little too done. My dad had a sandwich and his chicken was very over cooked as well. The rest of the sandwich was great for both of us. The slaw is amazing! Being from California I thought the prices were great (I had read complaints regarding this). I love the location and small town feel. My only other reservation was a particular worker in the back which we could hear and see. She appeared to be a stocker or kitchen help, but she was loud and made some inappropriate comments to other workers (I'm hoping as jokes or in good "fun" ) but she should remember the patrons can hear her. You never know who is listening. I will be back I'm sure. read more
