This review is way overdue but I hope it's better late than never! My now-husband and I reached out to Melody from Sweet Condesa for our wedding back in Spring 2023. I knew that I wanted Filipino-flavored desserts to honor my heritage and was deciding between a few different vendors. I am so glad I reached out to Sweet Condesa (who was quick to respond!) because, after a tasting, my husband and I knew that she would create the dessert menu we dreamed of. We ordered a two-tier, ube wedding cake, which had ube halalya and ube buttercream, dulce de leche tartlets, calamansi pie tartlets, strawberries and cream tartlets, ube panna cotta, and mango coconut shortbread bars (which were perfect for our vegan guests). By the end of the wedding, everyone raved about Melody's desserts - both how beautiful and how delicious they were! Every now and then, I get a craving for our wedding desserts and wish I could order them more regularly haha I know that Sweet Condesa is taking a pause for now but I truly hope she brings back her wedding catering and or our wedding menu options! Truly such a special and talented vendor to work with for any event.

Our experience with Melody & Sweet Condesa was absolutely perfect. We found her on Instagram & saw that she was hosting a Filipino & Latin-inspired concept tasting. My husband is half Cuban & I am Filipino, & we wanted to incorporate aspects of our culture into our wedding. So when we came across this event, we knew we had to go. Immediately after the tasting event, we knew we wanted to have her desserts at our wedding. We had another tasting with other desserts that we were allowed to select & try. She was so sweet & brought extra for my parents. We chose Ube Cookies, Guava Pinipig Crumble Shortbread Bars, Pandan Meringue Tartlets, Strawberry Cream Pie Bar Bites, & Turon Pie Bar Bites. My favorite was the Pandan Meringue Tartlet & my husband's favorite was the Guava Pinipig Crumble, but they were all delicious. But those Ube Cookies though... Those cookies are still talked about to this day by so many family & friends that attended! Even though she is based in San Francisco, she went above & beyond by driving all the way to Carmel to deliver & set up these desserts. They were one of our top 5 favorite elements of our wedding. Communication was always constant & consistent with Melody, and she made us feel so valued & special. We are so glad to have had the opportunity to work with her. (The cake in the pictures was provided by a different baker)

$45 for an 8" runny pie that has consistency of water

We were excited to pick up an 8" ube pie from sweet condesa. So disappointed when we cut into it a puddle of purple ube, with the consistency of water, shot to the top and the whole pie was a jiggly mess. We contacted them and requested a refund of $45 for this pie. The owner, Melody, responded immediately and graciously offered to replace this pie with another. We hope it's of better quality. Giving 3 stars for great customer service to partially offset the poor quality of the pie. Hope to update with higher score after trying the replacement pie.

I've spent years searching for a red velvet cake that actually tastes like red velvet instead of…read morevanilla cake dyed red. Gregory's Desserts finally ended that search. The moment your fork slides through it, you know it's different. The cake is unbelievably moist with that velvety crumb red velvet is supposed to have. It isn't dry, crumbly, or overly fluffy. It's soft enough to melt in your mouth, yet substantial enough to give you that satisfying bakery bite. Every layer is rich, tender, and perfectly balanced. Then comes the cream cheese frosting... and this is where they completely win you over. It's thick, silky, and luxuriously smooth without being overly sweet. It has just enough tang to balance the richness of the cake, creating that perfect bite where neither the frosting nor the cake overpowers the other. The flavor is what keeps replaying in your head hours later. You get that subtle cocoa note that's unique to authentic red velvet, followed by the creamy tang of the frosting that practically melts across your tongue. It's rich without feeling heavy, sweet without becoming overwhelming. Every bite somehow tastes just as good as the first. This isn't the kind of cake you politely eat because someone brought dessert. This is the kind of cake where you pause after the first bite, look at it for a second, and think... "Where has this been all my life?" If you've been chasing that bakery-quality, melt-in-your-mouth red velvet cake that lives rent-free in your memory long after it's gone, stop searching. Run to Gregory's Desserts. This one creates a new standard.

A few years ago, there was definitely a dip in communication when I was trying to order a birthday cake, but since then, I've had the pleasure of enjoying Gregory's treats many times. His cheesecake is truly unlike any I've ever had. The chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies are so good, they'll make you feel like you're not even on planet Earth! Seriously, they're that delicious. And the chocolate cake? It tastes like it was baked by a sweet Southern grandmother. It literally melts in your mouth. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that every time I go, I buy all four items and happily eat them over the next few days! Hands down, Gregory's is the BEST BAKERY IN OAKLAND. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out!

The desserts are not only beautifully presented but incredibly delicious. Every bite tastes fresh, creative, and thoughtfully made. The Mango Sticky Rice Bingsoo was a standout--light, refreshing, and packed with flavor. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing, and the variety on the menu means there's something for everyone. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better with their great service. U Dessert Story turns dessert into an experience. If you're looking for a place that delivers on taste, presentation, and atmosphere, this spot deserves five stars. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.

I've been lucky enough to try four of their flavors, and each one showcases their signature silky texture and deep flavor. All are not too sweet! My personal favorite is the Kyoto Matcha - the matcha is high-quality, with a vivid green color and rich flavor that balances beautifully with the creamy cheesecake base. The Original is a classic for a reason with deeply caramelized top and creamy interior. I also tried the Iribancha, a roasted green tea flavor. It's intense, smoky, and unique..maybe not one I could finish in one sitting, but definitely memorable and recommend for those who want that earthy/smoky taste. The truffle was also a standout, adding just enough umami to round out the sweetness. Preorders drop via Instagram (@basukucheesecakes) and sell out lightning-fast. Otherwise, plan to line up for slices! Wishing Basuku all the best on their next chapter. Fingers crossed for a return to the Bay someday! Until then, don't miss your chance to try what might be the best cheesecake you've ever had.
