On one of the visits, I ordered a stuffed bagel and waited for 15 minutes before going back up to the counter to say that I still hadn't received my order. It was busy, but by this time, the person standing at the counter had nothing to do. They apologized and made my order then, but the experience left a bad impression on me since it was my first time eating inside the bakery. On my next visit, I ordered several items inside the bakery to take home with my pickup order and received a pain de chocolate instead of a cinnamon donut, which I didn't notice until I got home. The pain de chocolate costs more and my partner wasn't able to share it with me due to a soy allergy. I suppose I could've been paying more attention, but these items don't have similar names at all, so I was not expecting this error. That said, I made a mental note to pay more attention when ordering inside the bake shop for future orders. On my next visit, I ordered a mocha cupcake and berry muffin, but the cashier rang me up for a hand pie instead of a muffin. Again, the hand pie was more expensive. This time I caught it and asked for it to be corrected. I work in customer service and I act with kindness when mistakes are made because we're only human. However, I believe 3 negative experiences in a row shows a pattern and warrants some attention. I will continue to patronize this business due to the reasons I mentioned at the beginning of this review, but I will now have to be vigilant in ensuring that I receive the correct items and am charged the correct amount. This of course is not ideal. I hope service improves.

And pretty much taste like a normal cookie. After that experience, I went down a month later and got a couple of my own from the bake shop itself. The place is well decorated and homie. The service was friendly but a bit awkward. You are only able to see cases of dessert options, it is more of a pick-up point, not so much a bakery location you can browse. I wouldn't suggest coming as a large group, there is no where to sit to enjoy your baked goods and parking is very difficult. While the cobbler and banana pudding were good, I wasn't a fan of the brownie. My partner enjoyed the cobbler a lot, but when we did the calculations, the prices were astronomical. One star per item we liked, for this review. As much signage is visible upon entry regarding rules and limited persons for entry at a time- not one area provided prices; only signs that tell you not to touch. It's required by law for prices at every establishment to be listed, according to SB 478 for general consumer goods and services in California.

I am a big guy, and I've had a lot of cheesecake in my life, some may say too many. I know my cheesecakes. And to people like me, to true cheesecake connoisseurs, I say: "Try Maple Street Cheesecakes." Why? I'll give you three reasons. First of all, it's a small, family owned business. Support them. They are a hard working couple (both are faithful public servants by day), trying to share their gift of baking with the good people of the Bay Area. Second, they truly care about your satisfaction. They can customize almost any order to get you the cheesecake you want. You want a walnut topping? You got it. You want a plain one (my favorite)? It'll be delivered to you tout de suite. The prices are reasonable, and even the presentation exceeded my expectations. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it's the taste. These are some of the creamiest cheesecakes you'll ever try. Our dinner guests were from Baltimore and New Jersey. The conversation turned to New York Cheesecake and how they wished they could find some in the Bay Area. When dessert rolled around we quietly served the lemon curd cheesecake. Less than one bite from each person and the OMG started. I even specifically asked the employee if the cake was fresh, and she assured me that it was. Verbatim she said: Don't worry, it's fresh... Unfortunately, it absolutely was not fresh. The cake was extremely dry and crumbly, making a mess when we cut it, and it tasted like it had been frozen and thawed and then frozen and thawed again. Even worse, the frosting wasn't cream cheese frosting (which red velvet should have) -- it was plain vanilla buttercream. This was the only dessert at my friend's dinner party birthday and it was honestly embarrassing. My friend politely ate her slice, but no one else finished theirs. Her husband who is outspoken just flat out started talking about how dry the cake was... To their credit, when I contacted the bakery they did offer a refund, but required that I bring the half-eaten cake back to the shop. I live in San Francisco and didn't have time to make a special trip to Oakland to return a cake that had already been tossed in the trash outside and then fished back out. $63 for a tiny, dry, clearly not-fresh cake is unacceptable. Unfortunately I won't be back.
