Steve represented this office very well by being professional, thorough, friendly and responsive. He answered all my questions timely and to the best of his knowledge. When I arrived at the office, everyone was very welcoming, I felt like I was so important and they made me feel at ease. I was referred to this office by my dentist to treat a severe infection and I'm so glad I was. Dr. Monzavi is knowledgable, kind, and efficient. He took the time to explain the process and make sure my questions were fully answered. All of the staff are incredibly kind and helpful as well, they checked up on me to make sure I received the prescription for my pain medications. I was extremely nervous coming in because it's my first ever root canal treatment but Dr. Monzavi is great and I felt comfortable during the treatment. He checks on you throughout the treatment to make sure you are OK and that the procedure is painless, then after the treatment thoroughly reviews with you what has been done and what the next steps are. I had 2 appointments so far (due to the severity of the infection) and each of them took less than an hour which is way quicker than what I expected. They scheduled me another follow-up appointment to check on the healing progress. You can tell the people here care about their patients. My dentist recommended Sunnyvale Endodontics for a root canal. I have a lot of anxiety about all dental activity. Dr. Monzavi explained what needed to be done based on the X-rays they took. DO NOT COME HERE!!! Very shady business. I was referred by another dentist and was given an estimate for what I would pay out of pocket and the MAXIMUM amount my insurance would cover. I paid a good chunk of money but my insurance would pay a little more than half (or thats what I was assured). I needed two root canals. Except one needed to be redone, it already had a crown but it was discolored and had minor pain sometimes. During my consultation I was informed that all they would be doing is the root canals, not replacing the discolored crown, fine; I can get that done at a later time, at least both teeth will be good to go. During the first treatment they treated the infection that I had on my previous root canal and performed a regular root canal on my other tooth. I was given temporary fillings for both and told to come back in 4 weeks. I went back and as they were getting ready they told me that I would be given ANOTHER temporary filling for both teeth and would have to go back to my regular dentist to get permanent ones...I asked why couldn't THEY give me permanent ones and they said they don't do that there?? That would've been helpful information to know because now back at my normal Dentist I would have to pay for that out-of-pocket because all of the money from my insurance was used up for these two root canals, which is ridiculous. Not only that! But I asked for an itemized bill before I went in the second time and they insisted on giving it to me afterwards. So after the treatment was done, I was told that they JUST sent out the bill to my insurance and now we WAIT to hear back from them to see how much they're willing to cover...WHAT? So I asked why they hadn't already sent out a bill during the first visit if they knew the TOTAL cost for the treatments already and my insurance had a MAXIMUM amount they're willing to pay? Why didn't they just get the maximum amount and if not then I would pay the remainder of what my insurance can't all at once instead of paying a chunk NOW and then waiting to see if I have to pay MORE later on? Doesn't make sense. So basically, NOT ONLY do I still have a discolored tooth, I have to go to my previous dentist to get permanent fillings (which I have no money for), AS WELL as potentially pay more out of pocket (because this dentist NOW thinks my insurance is going to pay LESS than what I was assured BY THEM). ALSO when clarifying the costs on my itemized bill, the woman at the front kept trying to beat around the bush and avoid answering on whether or not I am potentially going to pay more in the future. After everything was done, I talked to my distant cousin who's worked in a dental office for years and she agreed that the whole situation is insane and the amount I paid is ridiculous for the work I got done. I'm so angry with this business, VERY dishonest and again, shady. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

My dad had seen Dr. Monzavi about a year ago and I accompanied him to his appointment. He was so empathetic and meticulous. Do you really want a good endodontist? My answer is Dr. Hoang. I have had 3 different endodontists throughout my life. I'm also in the medical field, but it doesn't mean I'm not scared of needles and the dentist. The drilling sounds give me the creeps. My first impressions of Dr. Hoang were kindness and professional. She has a very cute and sweet personality. Her friendly demeanor makes you feel comfortable instantly. I was very pleased with my experience during this difficulty time. I have spent so much moneys on my teeth more than you can imagine. So, I really appreciate the discounts that she gave me. I have anxiety and claustrophobic. I can be a hard critic, but I tried really hard to stay calm. Combine that attitude with an innate crankiness when I'm not feeling at all, the experience was pleasant. There is a reason Dr. Hoang has 5 stars; she is exceptional! I've unfortunately needed several root canals over the past few years, but fortunately Dr. Hoang has been able to perform them all. Not only is Dr. Hoang extremely diligent and caring, but she also makes sure you are comfortable during procedures. Honestly, she treated me like family. I felt heard and cared for and she made a difficult time as comfortable as possible. Dr. Hoang explained everything thoroughly and took the time to call me afterward to check in on how I was doing. I had a very difficult case of Maxillary sinusitis of endodontic origin and after seeing several doctors (including an oral surgeon and ENT) it was Dr. Hoang who found the source of the problem. She saw me every two weeks for many months to get me better. She saved a necrotic tooth that caused an infection and helped me recover without needing sinus surgery. Dr. Hoang is superbly competent at her job! I could go on and on, but just know that if you need any endodontic work done look no further. Dr. Hoang is the best! read more

Doctor perform root canal re-treatment, since first one failed. She is nice and easy going as a person. Her front desk is good as well (no billing problem etc). Just recently the tooth she did second time root canal failed. It has developed infection, so I have to remove the tooth (can't do it third time) and spend ton of money to get implant or have a nice gap. read more

I came here for a root canal about a year ago. Dr. Hoang was very patient throughout the whole process, starting with 2 consultations, then the procedure, and finally 2 follow-up appointments to ensure that I didn't experience any issues. The root canal procedure went very smoothly, and she explained each step to me so I clearly understood. There wasn't any pain or discomfort and it was a quick process. Also, with insurance it turns out I overpaid, and the office refunded me the extra amount and I wouldn't have noticed it it weren't for their honesty. So I hate the dentist!! Absolutely hate..and yeah I know hate is such a strong and crude word to use but hey I'm being honest. Well I LLLOOOOVVVEEE Dr. Dao B. Hoang!!! She was sooo funny. Funny but seriouse. Her bedside manner is EXCELLENT!! She and her assistant ( I'm sorry I didn't get her name) made you feel sooo comfortable. So relax. Really can someone fall asleep during a root canal - I almost did! Okay, let me get to my story on how I came about Mizz. Hoang. :) Messing around with Western Dental back in 05 they gave me some nasty ass silver grey filllings. As some may know, silver fillings (medical name- amalgam )contain mercury which can cause memory impairment; itching; burning; pain; tissue swelling; loss of hair, teeth and nails; kidney dysfunction; and psychiatric problems. Say whaatt. Oh hell to the naw. But back then I hadn't really heard about this. Google this for more info. About 2 weeks ago one of the damn filling came out when i was flossing and I panicked because I knew I would eventually have to go to the dentist. But I didn't want to go back to Western Dental -by the way I went to the lame one in Redwood City. But I almost slipped up and went back. But as I started doing some research on Yelp in regards to all the neighboring Western Dentals - no one gave them good reviews. I mean I looked from San Mateo to San Jose. . So I put off going to the dentist. Then one night as I was laying in bed this excruciating throbbing pain started shooting up the side of my mouth - I was like oh snap! I popped some Aleve and threw a ton of Orajel in my mouth. But each time it kept coming back with vengeance basically telling me "Its either me or you" The next morning I went to work and I rememberd my Alter-Ego/Co-worker was telling me how wonderful his dentist was. So I emaield them on their website and they called me back the next day with an appointment the next following day. PERFECTO!!! Now this dentist is named Lindi Henell. Her staff is wonderful. Kiwi and Michelle are great. Michelle was very imformative in regards to the work I needed done but unfortunately due to the jacked up mercury infested filling, I now needed a freakin root canal because the filling was leaking and it started killing my tooth - my tooth was decaying. YIKES!! And the decay was sitting and sharing shot drinks with my nerve which was causing me the pain. WTF!! And due to this they could not do the work, they referred me to Dr. Hoang who was able to fit me in the same day. Root Canal - Oh shit!!! OMG!!! Noo - what a freakin Monday!! Okay time to put my wonderwoman cape on and do this! This decaying tooth will not win this battle So I went right down the street from Mathilda to Remington. Waited about 10min - due to paperwork and was taken right back. I explained how frightened I was of the dentist to Dr. Hoang and she cracked some jokes and put my fears at ease. She expalined to me in detail what she was doing and why she was doing it. The room was nice and warm too. Monday it was cold and rainey. They had some music playing and gave me some cool shades to wear. Before the procedure I explained to her that I have sensitive teeth and when they spray the cold ass water on your teeth sometimes it hurts. Dr. Hoang and her assistant did several tests before they proceeded to work on my tooth so I wouldn't have any discomfort due to the cold water or that air gun thingy. Never in my life have I experienced a joyous occassion at the dentist. From the shots, to the drilling, etc., I did not feel a thing. NOT ONE THING!! I couldn't believe it. Yes at the end of it all I looked as if I had a stroke due to the anesthetic which Dr. Hoang told me she had tons of. LOL I have tons of different types of anesthetic she said - one way or another we're goinig to make sure you don't feel any discomfort while we work on your tooth. So all in all - I give my blessings to this dentist. If you have to go see an Endodontics and you're scared too death of the dentist like I was ....please please request to see Dr. Dao B. Hoang, D.M.D. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!! You will love her just like l do. And yes the rumors are true - she will sing to you. I know she likes Alicia Keys, when her song came on.. Dr. Hoang hummed along. As for Dr. Lindi Henell - I'll let you know how that goes because I'm going to need a crown in 2 months. Yikes!!! Oh both offices take Delta Dental. read more

Dr Hoang and her staff are amazing! I was referred to Dr Hoang for a root canal treatment by my dentist. Of course I waited hoping that the root would heal, but one night it flared up with massing pulsating pain coming in waves and I didn't sleep for ~ 48 hours with a definite possibility of not sleeping for 72hrs or more due to the weekend coming up. Dr Hoang was able to accommodate me towards the end of the following working day, and her dental assistant and the administrator stayed ~1hr later to treat me. Dr Hoang was very professional and knowledgeable. She triple checked that the tooth which needed a root canal was the correct tooth before starting any procedures, and also noticed an additional nerve ending on the tooth that needed to be removed. She explained the entire procedure throughout, and even showed me the bad nerve once it was taken out and explained why it was bad and why it was a good thing we took it out. Of course I didn't need convincing that it needed to go, but it was a great educational experience :) The entire procedure took less than 1hr including the extra nerve ending, and I was confident that I was in the right hands the entire time. Disclaimer: I hate dentists. I am scared of dentists and cannot stand any pain in my mouth. Dr Hoang was AMAZING! She was so nice and patient and gentle. She explained what was going on with perfect clarity and I felt calm and assured during my visit. She called me back a few days later because she had been rechecking my x rays and asked me to come in so she could make a small adjustment. I wasn't charged for it and it didn't take long at all. She just wanted to make sure that she had done the best job possible on my teeth and I am very appreciative. 10/10 would have this root canal again. read more

Dr. Hoang is really personable and professional. I came to her because my dentist needed a specialist for my emergency. Thankfully, her office was structured to receive patients such as Myself. Dr. Hoang is gentle and caring. She also provides descriptions of her actions to prevent me from being surprised of any noise or whatever. I was in so much pain that I had sent her pictures of my swollen cheek to check it if were normal. Any normal doctor would cringe but she was cool and had empathy on a delirious woman in pain. I think I found one of the best Dentists on the Planet Earth. No, I'm serious. She's that good. Long story short, she was extremely competent, careful, and detailed in her work and explaining things. She was able to diagnose a problem that my former dentist kept on saying - for years - was not a problem. It was a problem. She was wonderful in making things better and my years of pain disappear, whose root cause was the incompetency of my former Dentist. My former Dentist's work was so bad, when I confronted him with his poor work and overlooked concerns, he refunded my money! When was the last time you heard a dentist refund your money?! Dr. Hoang is the Dentist's Dentist. The other reviews are suggestive, but she is a Dentist that really cares about her patients. She took her time in understanding my concerns and did a very detailed examination and was able to determine that the cause of my years and years of pain was related to a poor root canal performed by my prior dentist. She asked me why I endured years and years of pain, and I simply explained that my former Dentist kept on telling me every 6 months when I went up for a checkup, not to worry about the pain and it was no reason to be concerned. How wrong he was. Dr. Hoang said my options were simple. Hope it gets better with some corrective work, or redo the root canal. Dr. Hoang was great in working with me, and even applied by examination fees toward the actual root canal. She was clearly more interested in my Dental Health than my money. I'm not sure if I have ever heard of a Dentist this caring. The work that she performed with flawless and my new root canal is wonderfully pain-free! Did I say I am pain-free, after years and years of enduring pain from a less than professional root canal from my prior Dentist. I contacted me previous Dentist and discussed what he said for years and how both the pain and root canal became progressively worse. Without much more discussion, he refunded my money for the work he performed years ago. To me, he admitted fault. Professionalism is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my last visits to her dental clinic. I was referred to Dr. Hoang by my dentist for a complication related to tooth. Dr. Hoang took her time explaining what was wrong and what were the potential treatments and trade-offs between the different treatments, risks etc. Eventually when I made up my mind she did her job perfectly well. She even called me up later to check on me that I was doing okay. Her support staff is very courteous, processed my insurance etc. well and ensured that I got my money back promptly when the insurance paid for the treatment. (I had paid the dentist upfront from my pocket.) I was able to get appointments based on my convenience. If you are visiting her for first time I suggest you check on Google maps about the exact location and parking etc. Else the place is a bit hard to find. read more

My dentist referred me to Dr. Dao Hoang for my first root canal. She's very professional and knowledgeable that's why I came to her again for a second emergency root canal on a tooth that was newly crowned for probably about 3 weeks. I was referred to Dr. Hoang by Dr. John Brown for a possible root canal. My symptoms had only just started, and Dr. Hoang was able to fit me in right away. During our first meeting, the X-rays and physical exam did not conclusively prove that the issue involved the tooth I suspected. So, Dr. Hoang started isolating each tooth, subjecting it to very cold, and very hot temperatures in order to test the nerves. This caused some discomfort, so she started using novocaine to deaden the pain in individual teeth. Bottom line, we were able to determine that it was most probably the back molar on the bottom (#31), which is not the tooth I originally suspected. It turns out that the tooth I suspected (#29), that was tender to pushing around, does have root damage, and is being reabsorbed into my jaw... very slowly. Had she simply removed the root to get rid of the tenderness in #29, I would have had to schedule that tooth to be pulled and an implant placed within the next month or two. Having treated #31 instead means I have several more months to deal with #29. On my first visit, Dr. Hoang spent two hours (TWO HOURS) diagnosing the problem correctly. She did not charge me one extra penny for all of the extra novocaine and x-rays, and nothing extra for her time, which went way beyond what I consider customary in such circumstances. I returned two days later, just to again make sure we were on to the correct tooth, and when we were both certain, she started the root canal. Dr. Hoang is extremely competent. I've had a lot of dental surgery (over a dozen root canals), so I know immediately when I can trust someone, and when I worry that I cannot. And... did I mention her very nice and competent staff? They make a big difference as well. I'm almost sorry the work will be finished tomorrow. read more

Dr Hoang has been my endodontist since 2010, or that was when she did my last root canal. She is an outstanding surgeon and is very careful to do tests to confirm her diagnosis even though I came to her office through a referral from my primary dentist. Dr Hoang is one of the most proficient physicians I've seen, in any field of medicine.
