SunO's was great when it first came out because it was a one of a kind shaved ice place. It was part of the original Asian boom restaurants and establishments that made Pleasant Hill the Asian food mecca that is now. However, now that other places are opening near the booming Sweet Hut on Pleasanthill, SunO is will have to watch out at PleasantHill and rely on the Emory crowd. Since it is the only bubble tea place around Emory, it certainly holds the monopoly. I am appreciate of the deals they have to encourage students to eat or enjoy the desserts but I wish they hadn't become so commercialized sometimes. So many of the flavors are the same: mango, passion fruit, kiwi and the flavors come from teh same 3-4 bottles of sugary syrup. Tha'ts right, if you want kiwi shaved ice? Got it, a large squirt. A kiwi flavored bubble tea? Large squirt. So that part is a little troubling to me because then you can't control the sweetness factor and everything in Suno's is UBER sweet. That is something I think they could work on since the other competition now offers patrons to choose the kind of sweetness they want. You get your bang for your buck for everything. So I recommend not to go for the boba tea unless you want SUPER sweet things. I instead recommend the shaved ice dessert because at least you can control how much syrup you want on it. I think they do the Asian flavors best like Pappinsu. The fruit ones are too sugary and after they melt you might as well ask for boba to make your melted concoction into a drink. Pappinsu has the red bean and asian flavors that make this dessert what it is supposed to be (a huge hit all over Asia with all kinds of Asian beans and jellies but not too sweet!) Usually young staff that are college kids so the people are friendly and personable. Tables get a little sticky after a while so be careful where you put your elbows. Menus are kinda sticky too so be careful of nice clothes or getting things stiky around. read more

My lil girl loves this desert spot for her slushies and snow cups. The lychees and mango bits in the green teas add flavor and texture to you drinks. It's a little gem in the Decatur-Clarimont area. It's never busy when I go and the cashier is always eager to serve and explain the menu. read more

To start with this place has great ambience and very friendly service, they'll customize any toppings you would like but they charge extra. This place has bubble teas, slushies, suno bowls. We ordered monsoon delight with Mango Suno base and topped with kiwis and mango jelly. SunO is flavoured ice which is shaved and placed as a base. I also tried Brownie bonanza it was delicious chocolate suno topped with. Brownie pieces and fresh strawberries. If you want shaved snow, go to any of the other Suno. I never thought I would give anything below a 2 to a shaved ice/snow place. I mean seriously, it's just shaved frozen stuff. How much can you mess it up? Read on and you will know =D Well, my question was answered. I came here the other day with a few of my friends and ordered 2 value sized (aka large) shaved snows. We got the oreo, tapioca, and strawberry snow, and a mango and strawberry one. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Los Angeles, or maybe it's been too long since I've been to a Suno's, but I couldn't help but be disappointed. There wasn't even that much shaved snow in the cup (come on at least fill it up to the rim AFTER the toppings), and the snow itself had a really weird consistency, almost like sand. The funny thing is that I didn't have the same issue at the other Suno's in Atlanta., so it may be just here. If anything, they could have put the fruit in the middle of the shaved snow, and put the condensed milk and syrup on top of the second layer of snow. ALSO, there are no indoor tables at this Suno leaving you to either sit in the sun or eat with your shaved snow balanced on your legs. The whole disappointment was just kinda sad and disappointing for me, especially since it was my friend's first time having shaved snow. The Jake's ice cream at Clairmont & North Decatur closed and was quickly replaced by a SunO. SunO, from what I can tell, is an Asian dessert spot. Their main product is a form of shaved ice/shaved ice cream that is lighter than frozen yogurt. You pick your flavor (original, strawberry, chocolate or mango), pick a topping, and pick a syrup. We let the cashier help us out and ended up with original SunO with red bean topping and Condensed Milk syrup. This was, not surprisingly, not very good. I like red bean flavored ice cream and mochi, but this was a bit too much. Also red bean is a subtle flavor, and the SunO itself doesn't have much flavor. I went back on Friday night for the grand opening and tried a free sample of SunO with fruit on top. MUCH BETTER. I would definitely recommend trying it, and if you go, I would recommend getting original SunO with some fruit toppings. I just checked their website and saw they serve bubble tea. This establishment offers a wide array of sweet and frozen treats! I've heard that the boba tastes like battery acid but that does not deter our brave team members from slurping down the tasty beverages. The staff working there is always courteous and kind, being very quick and efficient with their work. The "grass wall" in the back is cute and perfect for those who love sharing every aspect of their life. 1) The customer service is really good except one employee who recently got hired there. He did get my order wrong so some other employees helped him out. I felt as if this was very kind and it was a good thing they held each other accountable. 2) It was my first time here at SunO and I really enjoyed it. Reason for going: My roommate loves this Asian joint because she loves bubble tea and she invited me to tag along. Location: Two doors down from Finders Keepers off of North Decatur Rd. The shop is located at the opposite end of Choco*late. Venue: The place was clean and very baby blue (the color of the walls were baby blue), but so much smaller than Sweet Hut. The had booths to sit in at the opposite end of their ordering counter and register. What they sell: Crepes, bubble tea, and shaved ice. I ordered: Thai coffee. Size Large Price: I paid a total of $3.36 for a size large coffee, so the prices are pretty generous! Overall: The place is okay, but nothing that makes my socks fall off. My drink was okay and had the potential to be great, but they put very little ice so my "ice coffee" was not very cold or icy. I felt like like I was drinking room temperature coffee, so I threw it away once my roommate and I got back home. However, I do want to go back there again to try their crepes out because my boyfriend is Russian and my mother is Japanese, so crepes are my thing. read more

One of my favorite shaved ice places in Atlanta. I've been coming here for years. Their shaved ice is so soft, like a fresh layer of snow. They have nice toppings as well, and their prices are reasonable. They even have a loyalty card program where after a certain number of purchases you can get one free. Every year they have a free event where they give out shaved ice, bubble teas, and other items. Over the years, this event has gotten crazy crowded where lines are ridiculously long due to its popularity. I started to drink bubble tea in the last 3 months and this shop was my first bubble tea place. First of all, I didn't see anything wrong with how they made their bubble teas at first until my stomach started hurting every time right after finishing my tea. What the problem was I didn't realize they use fruit flavored syrup instead of real fruit tea which similar shops such as Honey Bee, Sweet Hut, Kung Fu Tea, and this make a world of difference. Second of all, they aren't just a bubble tea shop so using cheaper ingredients for their bubble teas isn't one of their biggest concerns, what you get instead is an extra large bubble tea here for the price of a small one at a healthier bubble tea place. If you don't care as much about drinking as healthy bubble tea, you might be ok with this place. Meh. Honestly the Asian food/dessert scene in Atlanta is weaker than its counterpart in NYC and Cali. Damn. The ice here was so sweet that, when melted, reminded me of simple syrup. I tried to mimic something close to Snowdays creation in NYC (the Yeti if you know what I am talking about) with shaved green tea ice, condensed milk, mochi, strawberries and brownies .. I think I spent close to $7-8 creating this concoction as their combinations were quite simple (ie strawberries with milk shaved ice) .. man oh man, it just couldn't hit the spot because it tasted like diabetes paradise. Green tea had virtually no hint of matcha and was overwhelmingly sweet. The added condensed milk provided an unwanted diabetic punch. It was definitely my fault to assume the ice would be appropriately flavored .. but man, I was disappointed to say the least. Def do not plan on returning. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and there was a couple there being served, so there was a very short wait. The menu is on the counter area by the register where you order. I chose a mango strawberry tea with boba and mango pieces. The wait was pretty short after I paid and the cashier was super nice. The tea was made with a strawberry syrup that was stirred into the drink, which made it super sweet. I typically like things on the sweeter side, but this tea was a bit much. Whenever I'm ITP, I go around and about to get to this store for some yummy drinks. The place is small, clean and always has super friendly workers. Prices are great - you get a 32 oz bubble tea for the price of a small/medium at other joints. They have daily specials - Mondays are double bubbles - which is what I loved yesterday. I think it's my fault because I should of googled what suno is (shaved ice) because I did not enjoy the dessert at all and ended up throwing it out. Never one to pass up an unusual new food, I knew I had to try SunO when I passed by a couple weeks ago. This weekend I stopped in and got a regular Pappinsu, which seemed to be the craziest/most authentic of any pre-configured menu options (which only come in "regular" size). The price ($6.50) seemed steep at first, but then I saw how big "regular" actually was. It's their largest size, and it's quite big. The pappinsu was topped with Fresh Kiwi and Strawberry slices, sweet red beans, Rice cakes, Ai-Yu jelly, Korean powder and a cherry, then drizzled with condensed milk. I've never seen so many toppings on a single dessert. Even though the ai-yu jelly and korean powder were a mystery to me, nothing tasted too strong or odd. The shaved ice itself was milder than I expected, kind of like watered-down ice cream. All in all, it was a tasty and refreshing snack, but not totally filling. read more

On my first visit, I had their chocolate shaved ice topped with pudding, mochi, and strawberries- just okay- the chocolate taste was just ok. Today I got the mango shaved ice and topped it with strawberry syrup and mochi- it was great! But next time, I'd probably hold off on the syrup- too sweet. If you're from LA area, my reference to Class 302 will make sense. If not, then pretty much SunO is what Class 302 is to Los Angelenos, but better! This place, although scant decor, has great shaved ice! It comes flavored and then topped with goodness. I came here with my bf and his family and we shared a fruit shaved ice and a mocha shaved ice. Both were good. The ice has a flaky, sweet flavor. I love it! The toppings were good as well. Overall, give it a try if you haven't! read more

Well I had a craving for ice cream. Most likely to wash away the memory of the crappy italian food we'd just eaten. I wanted to go to lenox to get ice cream there but the wife refused. So as with any proper marriage I held my breath and jumped up and down until she took me for ice cream. Well since this place was around the corner we decided to give it a try. It was awesome. Naturally since I'm a manly man I chose the one with sprinkles. Again with the awesome. It has alot of flavor and service was pleasant. A word of advice, Dont follow your wife into the health food store. The nasty smells completely drown out the awesome ice cream. read more

Checked out this location of SunO for the 1st time today thanks to a Groupon deal where I only had to pay $6.30 total for 4 large beverages. Unfortunately, this review isn't about Groupon. I'm not sure how new this store is but it seemed extremely disorganized. There were 3 people trying to fulfill my drink order and I could have gotten my drinks and left already in half the time at any other SunO location. As for the drinks themselves, all that extra time taken did NOT help their quality: - every drink except the Thai tea had SOLID creamer powder at the bottom still...and now that there's ice in the cup, it's much harder to dissolve so I ended up crunching on powdered creamer. - Waaay too much ice. - Waaay too sweet! I specifically asked for one of the drinks to be light on sugar though so hopefully that one isn't as syrup-y. The one plus was that the tapioca pearls were perfectly done. Sorry, Decatur SunO, your lack of quality control/consistency and distance from any major highway is going to keep me from coming back. The Jimmy Carter location isn't that much better either. If you REALLY REALLY want shaved ice or bubble tea from SunO, make the trek and drive out to Pleasant Hill. read more

When visiting this location I was in search of cool and healthy new finds. I had just came from two other establishments in the same shopping center. One includes a health store that I had been visiting since I was a little girl. I hadn't been there in a while and after doing a little shopping and retrieving back to my car, I noticed something NEW... That something new was SunO Dessert! I had been hearing about bubble tea and seeing it all over social media platforms. So I decided to check it out. The location was great because I just love the Decatur area, specifically anywhere near Downtown Decatur (more reviews in regards to establishments in that area are coming soon!) The establishment itself was clean and the staff were fairly helpful. BUBBLE TEA REVIEW! The bubble tea was very interesting, taste was pleasant, texture was intriguing. If you like new and interesting drinks and tea's I recommend trying bubble tea at least once. The only thing that may throw some people for a slight loop is the tapioca bubbles. It's like drinking a milky smooth tea and then from time to time having to chew a chewy bubble. It is definitely two different textures going on there in this one cup. I pretty much will try anything at least once. My taste buds are fairly open to trying new things at least once. Three stars is kind. I love suno. I just returned from Seoul last week and the first thing we wanted when we returned was Papbinsoo at Suno because it is actually better than most that we found in Korea (with the exception of the place upstairs at the Hyundai Department Store..) Anyway, my issue is this, The staff are less than friendly or happy. There is very limited seating indoors and the two tables outside are situated in a spot beside the building that I would probably not want to see in daylight and smells strongly of garbage. Shaved ice is not really a good food for take out since it melts very quickly so seating is important. The Suno at Pleasant Hill is so good. I love going there it never gets old. I was so disappointed with this location. This is one of those stores that I really want to do well and open more franchises but this particular store makes the whole operation looks bad. If I had eaten at this one first I would have never bothers to try any of the other locations. read more

I LOVE this place! I visited the location in Athens and discovered that they had a location here in Atlanta! I absolutely love the shaved snow with strawberries and strawberry drizzle! Like some other reviewers have stated, it is not like the ice cream we are used to, but its different in a good way! I stopped in last week for a Thai Bubble Tea, and I promise, I have had my share of Thai tea, and the way the girl made it, I literally turned around and went back inside to tell her that it was probably the best Thai tea I have EVER had. Seriously. If you are in to trying new things, come here! If not, take yourself to 31 flavors. I am sure you will find something there. I only -1 star because of the location - SunO should have another location in the perimeter, and if they are only going to have one, they should have made it more centralized, and not in Decatur! :) read more

Another option for Asian dessert that can be found in certain areas for GA. Menu/Price: they do not only serve the ice dessert, they also have crepes and drinks. The menu is very colorful and the pictures makes it easy for you to know what you are getting. Price is on the high side for just ice and some toppings around $6+. You can also choose your own toppings and syrups in the size of small, med, and large if you are not feeling eating a pre-set topping from the menu. Food: I ordered the Suno Pappinsu that I shared with two other friends since it was huge. It came with the original shaved ice with condensed milk. When I first heard about shaved ice I thought it was going to be hard broken down ice, but this is different, this was fluffy soft ice with the texture of the ones that have just fallen off from the sky. It came with toppings of red bean, kiwi, strawberry, mochi, and a cherry on top. This is a good place to try it once or twice. But I still think the price is high for some ice and toppings. Definitely more worth it to share it with some friends rather than eating one on your own. read more
