This review is for post sales customer service only. For the second time, my inverter is acting up and not generating power (I lease the panels and inverter). Also for the second time it took more than a month to get a service technician here. When they finally did come I only got minutes of notice (no call the day before) and consequently I was not here when they were. There was no note or any sort of message left indicating what the problem might be or when I might expect resolution. I emailed customer service requesting an update 9 days ago and still have not received any kind of an update. While the solar panels may be the most efficient, if you can get a service contract from anyone other than SunPower you should. They are not at all what one would call responsive or customer focused. read more

Warren was very helpful and patient in explaining the use of solar and how we can monitor the usage. Sunpower completely botched the application for solar for our home. I followed up with our coordinator on 4 separate occasions over a month period trying to confirm that they had everything they needed, as we were told 1 month was plenty of time to get the paper work submitted ahead of the mid-April deadline. I haven't heard a single word from our coordinator, attempted to escalate and never heard back from their supervisor as was promised today. read more

I have had a great experience with sunpower. One thing I will note is I got my solar system directly from and installed by sunpower, not by a 3rd party contractor. I notice a lot of bad reviews about bad experiences with contractors who installed sun power panels. Like I said I am happy. My system has been operating for several months. The permit process can be painstaking due to the City or utility company taking their time to approve permits. One person that stands out is Perry N. he's a great tech after my install I noticed something was off with the monitoring system and he came out and fixed it right away. read more

We built a new house and the folks at SunPower were quick to respond after we closed. They did the backend paperwork, worked with our utility company to get permission to operate and scheduled us an appointment for the technician (Dago) to arrive all within about 48 hours. Dago was polite, professional and thorough. He made everything easy and within 1.5 hours we were connected and could see our solar usage on the app with a full understanding of the system, how it works, how to maintain it and what to expect going forward. We can highly recommend SunPower and most importantly, Dago. read more

There was a $1,000 visa check card available if i mentioned my company to Sun Power at contract time. I was told they had it recorded and I would get the $1,000 gift card six to ten weeks after my install. I never got it and now they claim they don't see my company as eligible. I talked to them three or four times about it and they told me I was good. So basically they ripped me off a $1,000 dollars. It gets even worse. They never closed my permits with my town. Someone will call you next week. They dont, i call again Two months later...sunpower is very sorry, you are top level priority. We will send someone out. They dont. Four months later...sunpower is really sorry (sent out a contractor to confirm the inverter is not working) ...we need to replace that inverter, we will give you a call in a couple of weeks with eta. They dont, i have to chase up. Six months later inverter has not been replaced...sunpower are very sorry, but its the manufacturer of the inverter you know, still waiting, we cant give you an eta. You have an older system. Could i get my system upgraded...there is no other solution. Bottom line, perhaps they sell good products, who knows...they certainly 100% do not care about their existing customers. read more

I would've given these guys 5 stars, but their Help Desk sucks. The lady I chatted with obviously has no idea what's going on. I recently changed my network, so I need to update the monitoring system with a new network configuration. The lady has no idea of what I am requesting - how to update the new network config. I was on the phone with her, while she was checking with her supervisor, for an hour! For such a simple request, that is ludicrous. I wrote an overall review of sunpower before. One of the issues I listed is manufacturing quality. I want to provide details of the manufacturing quality issue. We heard a popping sound from the battery module and then smelled smoke coming from that module. We suspected fire. We turned off the system. The the service person who came the next day told us that the call had to be escalated to their top echelon service people. They found that one of the bolts wasn't torqued properly. so the connection was loose and there was spark and that's what was causing the electric cable sheathing to burn and smell. This happened despite the fact that they appear to have a system where once a bolt is torqued, they put a dot of paint on top of this bolt. There are four screws but only three had the dots. Clearly their manufacturing process lacks proper quality control. We were really afraid that had we not been at home when this incident happened there could have been a fire. Our battery is in our garage. It could have resulted in the whole house catching fire. Scary stuff. read more

The customer service at SunPower is terrible. The sales department is very responsive and great, but once you get their product, that is where the service ends. I have 2 issues since getting solar, the first time it took 3 weeks to get a response to my email to and about another 2-3 weeks to get the issue fixed. Next issue, I have been waiting over 2 months and not a single reply, even though I have emailed them 2-3 times in that time period. I would not recommend getting solar from them. Their panels are great and if you want to use their panels, I recommend using another company that uses their panels. read more

Horrible service and quality. Installed brand new panels, received the approval from the grind and no power is produced. First, I was told, it's about a system update and then that they will send a technician for an hour, when that might not be enough to resolve the issue, in A MONTH!!! Outstanding service! I've had my system installed for two years now, the process from start to finish was smooth and an awesome experience all throughout. I recently had a minor issues with my solar skirt, I was able to report the issue via mySunPower App on a Friday evening after 7 pm, wishing minutes someone called me and they had two technician at our home by the following Tuesday! Just received an escalated appointment from the previous review on 9-29-23. The best they could get me was October 30th. They broke the panel on 8-17-23. You would have hoped they would have done something this week. Still no call from management regarding any of this or the fact that this all started June 2022 This company is ridiculous! Now that we are stuck with them We have had a terrible time with customer service - they said a supervisor would be able to get back to us in 2-3 business days - for a phone call. They are holding up the sale of our house by taking 30 days to transfer to new owners - this was never explained and the week we were supposed to close they said 30 days. To whom it may concern, I am writing this review after having a bad customer service experience. I just got my house built and noticed that my solar production is low. Since it is a new construction neighborhood, I told the consumer service agent that it might be that the solar panels are dirty. She told me that their tech service is temporarily suspended but she can refer me to a different tech, but I will pay out of pocket. I ask since the installation was completed while the house was built, and more houses have also been built around my house aren't they supposed to clean the solar panels after the house was completed which is part of the solar maintenance before the homeowner takes charge? her answer was no. She also told me that after reviewing my system my productivity is low. This has been going on with every house in my neighborhood. In the future Sunpower, since the builder wants you to install solar panels early have a plan with them for who will clean up those panels after the house is complete to avoid this incident. We had our Sun Power solar commissioned for our new home at River Islands Lathrop today. Ted Ferguson from Sun Power was extremely knowledgeable about the system, he setup the panels, the monitoring system and helped with setup of the monitoring app. Explaining everything from how to reach out to Sun Power for support (in the event of any issues cropping up) to details about how much each panel is expected to produce, how much it is currently producing, how to maximize production per panel and also how to identify the best time of day through the year to use power to reduce reliance on the grid and cut down on electricity costs. Currently I have 13 solar panels, and they are producing 3.4 kw in total - I was expecting them to produce lesser, given they are covered with a thick layer of dust - from all the construction work in the surrounding areas. I expect to get 4kw once the panels have been cleaned! Couldn't be happier. read more

Giving huge props to SunPower's outstanding teams on the ground -- the installation crew, final inspector, and schedulers like Synthia -- who were excellent in doing their jobs at my two Oakland houses. My gratitude to them. But SunPower barely gets this 1 star for the Interconnection team we had the misfortune of managing my 2nd project. My strongest advice is that you find a solar company with staff who are willing to communicate with customers rather than become annoyed when you dare to ask about delays and trouble-shooting. Find a company whose project coordinators will advocate for you with the interconnection team and not just regurgitate the script that they themselves are fed. The interconnection team assigned to my 2nd project totally ruined the whole solar installation experience, and it leaves a nasty taste. They gave pat answers to our inquiries and became rude and disrespectful when they tired of our requests for status updates and explanations. They clearly didn't like being bothered by pesky customers. So, please--save yourself the degrading experience of working with SunPower. Find a company whose staff are respectful and truly care about their customers. read more

SunPower had a door-to-door sales person walking my neighborhood last week and scaring residents who simply asked "Who is it?" with an aggressive and intimidating reply "Open up to find out". As the neighborhood assn. President I received 3 calls about this same person. I tracked him down to find him wearing a bright flourescent yellow SunPower vest and his personality was as reported. When trying to contact SunPower about this situation I ran into a wall of offshore customer service people who would not connect me with any US based office or representative. I emailed the company to receive a case number with nobody ever contacting me or following up. I guess they do not care about the approach or sales tactics of their employees. Their customer service and the inability to reach anyone within SunPower (with great effort on my part) is appalling. read more

Customer Support AND Technical Support woes. I have helped a client buy a house with a SunPower system on it from the previous owners. The system is owned and now fully paid for. After a solar site inspection, it was determined that the system needs technical work done to get it fully functional. The support case has gone in circles and more than three times. technicians have been out to visit the property inconveniencing my client. Still no resolution because the support team crew that comes to the house to perform the work does not have the necessary tools and equipment to complete the job each time! read more

I would avoid this company if you can. We were forced into doing business with them since our builder used them. Our solar was supposed to be fully up and running in the beginning of November 2022. Our appointment was delayed due to rain 3 times. To be clear, I'm not upset that the appointments needed to be delayed due to weather, we can't control the weather. I am upset that each time our appointment needed to be rescheduled, the next available appointment was over a month out. It is now the end of February when our system is finally up and running, 4 months of delays. 4 months of energy bills I've had to continue to pay, all while also paying for panels that haven't been producing energy. SunPower promised a $200 reimbursement in the form of 4 $50 gift cards, but only 1 gift card ever showed up. Our technician was supposed to come this past Friday 2/24/23, but I received a call from him saying they had another "higher priority" client (according to their manager) that needed to be tended to. My appointment would have needed to be rescheduled AGAIN, potentially out another month, but the technician said he was still expected to get his Friday appointments done, off the record. So this poor guy ended up coming to my house and all of his other Friday appointments on Saturday. I really appreciate him coming, but I cannot believe SunPower would treat their technicians like that. **There also used to be a section in the SunPower app that would show you every panel in your system and how much energy each panel was producing. SunPower disabled this section of the app because they were getting too many calls from customers about their broken panels. So instead of actually fixing their customer's panels, they would rather us not know if our panels are working properly.** SunPower also has their technicians provide affiliate links to review sites like this. If you don't give SunPower a five star rating through the link, the technician doesn't get their bonus for that job. So even if the technician was great, but the actual company isn't, the reviews will look positive... Overall, I'm very disappointed with their customer service, and shady business practices. If I had the option to use a different solar company I would. Also, SunPower if you read this, please provide me with the 3 extra gift cards you promised! Or if you'd rather pay my energy bills for November, December, January, and February that would be lovely. read more

My SunPower technician Peter came out to activate and connect my solar panel today. I was late for the appointment. But Peter was very understanding and patient. He waited until I arrived. His installation was prompt and professional. Afterwards, Peter explained clearly how to use the MySunPower app and how to read the panel output and my house power usage. On June 21st, 2022 we signed a contract to have solar installed on our roof. The panels were finally installed the 2nd week of November. Every 2 weeks I would call to try to get updates on my project. There was no communication from them. The town came out to inspect 2 weeks later and told them that they needed to replace the meter. They said they can just send a picture of the new meter installed and the town would sign off, so we could get turned on. It is now the end of February and they have not replaced the meter yet. I call them every 2 weeks and ask when they are coming out, and they don't have an answer. They say they will expedite this. Haha. They dont care that I have had 30k of equipment decorating my roof for almopst 4 months. This is the worst customer service ever. BEWARE!!! This is a manufacturer who subs everything out and takes zero responsibility. My story is similar to Kristin S. (5/9/2023), Gary C. (6/7/2023), Adam R (3/29/2023), C.F. My system was installed in October 2021, by March 2022 it began failing. Finally got Vendor who installed to come out the end of July. Paid over $700 in extra energy bills because the system wasn't working. Vendor said 2 inverters were unplugged but good now. HTH did they get unplugged? Then I ignorantly went along with life and happy to pay only service fees to Energy company. Sadly by April 2023 I could see almost 6 months the system periodically registered no production at all every month, over 15 days a month each month. Called for service. Sunpower "The vendor is no longer associated with Sunpower. We need your credit card to get another vendor to do a site visit to diagnose problem." I refused to give them my CC so that took 2 solid months. Then they said "we have a vendor and they will contact you." Funny they actually emailed me a $150 bill to "pay later" New vendor, "We do not have a work request from Sunpower for your system." and they do not have a certified person to be on the roofs here in Las Vegas, they would have to sub it out. Said they would call Sunpower, provide them an estimate they need to approve then they would send someone out. Got email from this vendor last Friday, "Sunpower stated they had another vendor scheduling a site visit." Turns out the other vendor is the original vendor who is no longer in business here in Las Vegas! Called Sunpower today. CS Rep, "there is no option to escalate the service request and we can't see who the service request is with but can see it is pending scheduling." And there ya go.... I have documentation that proves the system is not performing as contractually promised, no less than 98% over the first 10 years. Anyone want to join me in a lawsuit? Buyer beware! We had solar panels and battery installed October '23 and it has yet to be switched on 10 months later. SunPower was telling us that they were waiting for the city to sign off on the installation (which we thought would have been done prior to install). Lately they have been ignoring our emails as our Project Coordinator was laid off. The most recent response from SunPower was that we should reach out to the 3rd party company that installed our equipment. So we did and they had no idea what we were talking about and put us back in touch with SunPower, who continues to ignore us. Now we are paying the loan AND the monthly energy fees with no end in sight. I am seeing others with the same issue so make sure to check the contract prior to signing as the contract says you have to pay the loan EVEN IF IT IS NOT TURNED ON! Two weeks ago my Sun Vault battery stopped storing power for night use. I contacted Sun Power customer service on at least three occasions and spoke to someone not in the corporate office. ( last time I called there was a rooster crowing in the background). Each time I have tried to get a name, e-mail, or telephone number for a scheduler to find out the status of when someone would be coming out to repair the problem. On all three occasions I was told they could not give that information. Three years ago when I had the solar and battery installed, I was able to contact installers and those assigned to access permits for status of installation. That now does not exist. I have never had such a negative experience dealing with a company! Sunpower was supposed to finally replace our Sunny Boy 3000TL inverter (under warranty) after months and months of passing the buck. We were assigned an escalation specialist (T. White) after we got the Better Business Bureau involved. Sunpower responded to the Better Business Bureau, indicating they finally located and obtained a compatible replacement inverter and we were scheduled for installation on August 1 between 12:30-1:30. They were a NO SHOW and no one called to inform us they would not be coming. Sunpower lied to us and the Better Business Bureau. Does Sunpower really have a replacement inverter?
