So for my ongoing saga. It has been 201 days since my issue with my system started. They finally made an appointment for today the 201st day to hopefully resolve and correct their issues with my system. Sunpower stated they would show up between 8 am and 9 am. I should not be surprised with my ongoing saga but they did not show up at the appointment window. Currently, I am on hold waiting for a reply from the field scheduler. It has been 1 hour so far waiting for the reply on the phone. I hope no one else ever needs to go through this ordeal. I guess my next step is to complain to the Better Business Bureau and get the local news with their consumer helpline to help escalate my issue. read more

Be really careful if you sign up for this company. During the process when they installed the solar panels, their contractors broke my patio roof at multiple locations. Parts, nails, and metals things flew all over my front yard and back yard and side yards. When I asked them to fix my patio roof, they basically just denied that they did the damages. I emailed, texted multiple people and they supposedly opened a case, but it did not go anywhere. It is a shame that they can be dishonest about such obvious things. We have purchased our new home and took possession April 22nd. We own the solar outright and have been trying to get it placed in our name and connected ever since. I have had a very frustrating experience with SunPower. They came out to survey my existing equipment for planning the install. and they climbed through a ceiling door with greasy hands that marked all over and around the door on the ceiling. I reported it is July 2023. All I asked for was to come and make it right by cleaning up their mess. I continue to let the SunPower folks know every few days, it seemed. Nearly 5 months later I am still without resolution, so I paid for cleaners, and even got up there myself to clean it and make it like it never happened. I almost fell and I hurt myself. Their claim they did "everything they could" upset me and I ended up loosing my cool after 5 months and no action or payment. Sadly, they did not even try to understand or make things right. Obviously I was set up so they could cancel me and disregard the damage to my home. No one cared and I am saddened as it is near Christmas. My own apology was met with nasty and snarky comments. These people are the most unprofessional that I have met. Anyway, the other thing, related to value, is that for the money, this just was not what I expected. One needs to be able to count on service and support. Especially in the beginning of a service. And they want to cast blame and basically ignore customers. My solar system was installed by SunPower on 1/26/22. It was connected and turned on 2/17/22. The system was functioning properly until 4/17/22. From 4/17/22 on, the system started producing half the power that it was in the first two months. I called customer care on or about 4/19/22 after noticing the loss of power generation and was told by a company representative that my system was functioning fine. The power generation did not improve in the days following my first call, so I called again. Again, they told me the system was functioning properly. I didn't understand how my system generated so much power during the first two months, then have it drop off by half. It should be noted that the first two months I had the system were in the winter months when the temperatures were lower. Not accepting or believing what their rep had told me the first two times, I called again a few days later. This time, the rep told me there was an issue with the WiFi connection with my system. The rep stated she would "escalate" the issue to a higher level of tech support and that someone would be in contact with me within 5 days. No one contacted me from the company. I called on the 6th day and was told by a rep that the problem ticket was never submitted to the escalation department. Finally, on 5/13/22, I got a call from SunPower for technicians to come out on 5/16/22. The technicians came out today, but now my system is generating even less power. I notified customer support and they told me my system was producing power as expected. In summary, my system went from generating an average of 37 kWh per day to an average of 17 kWh per day. After the technicians "fixed" my system today, my system only generated 2.4 kWh. I am of the belief SunPower sold me a faulty system. Don't expect their product to last more than 2 months and don't expect any customer service from this company. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau today, and I'll update this post if I get any resolution through them. DO NOT BUY SOLAR FROM THIS COMPANY read more

November 27, 2023 Update (Over 13 mos since installation) Since filing a formal complaint with the CSLB (CA State License Board), I have been working with an inspector who sent out an independent industry expert in the field of roofing and roof top solar installation. Their report concluded that SunPower damaged my roof by not taking appropriate steps to safeguard against damaging my roof during installation as well as overall substandard workmanship. SunPower's legal team got involved and challenged the report however the industry export upheld their findings. On this note, the CSLB recently started a task force to go after SunPower given the high number of complaints against them. Possible sanctions include, but not limited to, revoking their license to do business in CA. So, anyone considering SunPower for solar, ask yourself if you're willing to roll the dice on a company that could possibly no longer do business in the state of California... If you need further insight into their business practices, just go over to the BBB.org and search up "SunPower Corporation'' and read thru the latest string of negative customer reviews about them. Every business has negative reviews but when you actually have to go searching to find a positive review, that's usually a pretty good indicator about the business. read more

After 1 year of empty promises from SunPower, I finally spent 2 weeks making hours of calls to figure out why my solar wasn't turned on. (due to them filing the wrong paperwork with the wrong addresses). Now, two weeks later, my solar is finally turned on! I am still waiting for confirmation of a technician being scheduled to come out and "fix" the issue. Most likely the scratches all over my $46K solar array were not the only damage the non professional installer inflicted on my 20 panels. I have been a Sunpower lease customer since 2015. In Jan 2023, my inverter went bad. I have had multiple visits from their contractors. The inverter is bad and Sunpower has been stalling for over a year in replacing it. They have required me to continue paying my lease and paying a full electric bill the entire time. I have spoken with them numerous times, sent emails and nothing. I still have solar that does not work due to a broken inverter. Sunpower claims that my inverter is on back order, but that seems to be the case since September 2023. Six months later still no inverter. I have spoken to representatives overseas, in the US, the escalations team. I have also emailed the executives@sunpowercorp.com and still no response from them. This has caused extreme financial and emotional damage to me for the last 14 months. I am asking Sunpower for the following: 1 - Release me from my lease without penalty and remove your equipment from my property 2 - Install a new system since you are unable to replace my inverter. With this, I do not want to sign a new 20 year lease with your company. I want to continue with my current payments and term. They have denied both and just tell me I need to wait. I just want to thank Warren Grennan for his help and support. He was tasked with getting our solar system up and running (it went down a year or so ago). He was very informative and methodical with troubleshooting our system. He kept me informed every step of the way. In his findings as to why certain components were not powering on, he found that the breaker was tripped, but also not installed correctly. This hidden breaker was left dangling by the wires behind the electrical cover and not attacked to the rail. (See attached photo, circled in red) Unfortunately, he was not able to correct the electrical mistake, but assured me that it would be taken care of. He immediately got on the phone with customer service/technical support and informed them of his findings. While the situation wasn't fully resolved, Warren helped out the best he could and got the correct parties involved to remedy the issues. read more

This company is the worst I have seen. The coordinator Mason V never respond to our emails or anything. We even suspect if this person existed or just a ghost. The installation was done by a subcontractor who were supposed to work for 8 hours but were able to finish in 3 hours. We hope the quality is as good. Then they scheduled an inspection 2 weeks out. Before I even signed the contract I met with 4 other companies and decided to go with sun power because of their communication and customer service. I decided it was worth it to pay more money for customer service-well this was a fail and i kick myself for going with this company. It has been 5 months since we signed our contract and we have yet to have our panels working! There is such a lack of communication from this company after you sign that you won't be able to get a response or answer from anyone. Our site inspection did not pass- how do you specialize in solar panels and not pass city inspection? This is a HUGE red flag!!! Next, they left a massive hole and loose screws during installation. I have also requested pictures of the project multiple Times since I can't see my roof and want to verify nothing was broken-nope no pictures! My solar panel experience has been a nightmare and I'm still desperately trying to get ahold of someone. I have called requesting to speak with a supervisor and wrote emails to no avail. If you are considering this company for your solar panels do yourself a favor and don't! There's so many options out there and I wish someone told me all of this before I signed. Don't be bamboozled! SunPower - Email from MID saying they inspection failed! - Solar Installation Near Me - Richmond, California

Spent 111 days (and counting) in CA to get NEM2 PTO (with SunPower) On 10/24/2023 my solar installation is transferred to me and is ready to be activated. I filed a Net Energy Metering (NEM2) Interconnection authorization (aka PTO) question via Sunpower to my utility provider PG&E. Until 2/12/2024 (111 days since the filling of PTO) my system is still pending to be activated. I called Sunpower in 12/2023, 1/2023 to follow up on my Interconnection authorization their representative informed there wasn't actionable items on my end. In these phone calls, the representative mentioned all items are pending PG&E approval. On 2/9/2024, I called Sunpower again to follow up on the Interconnection authorization, they mentioned another 12 weeks may be needed for my request to go through. On 2/12/2024, I called PG&E to discuss my solar activation status and PG&E informed there wasn't any NEM2 Interconnection authorization project ids associated with my account, meaning PG&E has not received a completed request which should have been submitted by Sunpower. The PG&E specialist and I noticed there might be a mismatch of service agreement ID. I also called Sunpower today a very rude "interconnect specialist" played dumb pretending she doesn't know what project id is. I brought up the service ID agreement issue and immediately got brushed off saying this is neither blocking the activation nor causing a kickback from the utility company. (So nothing is wrong and I should wait, wait and wait after 111 days of waiting?) Sunpower is yet to resolve this issue between themselves and PG&E regarding my interconnection request. I would also want Sunpower to provide compensation for the loss of use of my solar system due to their negligence (delay) in submitting my NEM2 Interconnection authorization. read more

I have been such a SunPower fan, until the roof started leaking less than 6 months after the solar panels were installed. Our roofer told us that the panels had been installed incorrectly and had sunk into the roof, causing a depression in which water was gathering and leaking down into our bathroom. We needed to have the solar panels temporarily removed so that the roofer could fix the roof. We were worried about the expense, but since we were under warranty we assumed SunPower would make things right, and quickly. We contacted SunPower when there was a pin-sized hole in the roof. Now the hole is the length of my arm and is pouring water into buckets. They have dragged their feet every step of the way. A person finally came out and basically confirmed that, yup, it's leaking and it's their fault. He needs to "talk to a manager". When will the roof be repaired? They don't know. Who will pay for all the damage, both to the roof and to the bathroom ceiling and walls? They don't know. Every time I contact the SunPower line, I end up speaking to a woman in India who has a rooster crowing in the background so loud I can barely hear or understand her. She definitely doesn't know anything or care about my problem. I had to reach out to our salesman to ask HIM to find someone to talk to us; he's sending my photos and texts to the regional manager who, surprise, isn't calling or contacting us. I *do* get daily emails from SunPower support telling me that they'll happily bypass the warranty and get right on this if I want to pay $6,500 out-of-pocket. That's money I don't have and, again, we're under warranty and this is their fault. As I write this there is water streaming from our ceiling into a bucket. I wish I'd never heard of SunPower. I was confident that my SunPower system would perform as advertised, however, since day one I have been greatly disappointed by its low performance! I've contacted SunPower 10 times about the low production of the solar panel system they installed on my roof, however they keep telling me that the weather is the problem; although they can't tell me why the weather is only affecting 6 of my 14 panels. Also, I have a friend nearby with a comparable SunPower system and the weather isn't affecting his system which produces 100% of what it was designed to produce. My system is only producing 82% of what it was designed to produce. Six of the solar panels on my roof produce only 92%, 90%, 89%, 83%, 82%, and 69% of capacity. The SunPower warranty says that each panel will produce no less than 98% for the 1st year. When I looked at my roof, I noticed some problems with the system that SunPower installed. The wires coming out of several of the micro-inverters were bent backwards sharply going 180 degrees to another component. It looks like the wires were too short and they forced them to reach their connection points. Additionally, the production lights on several of the micro-inverters were not on. This was while the sun was shining brightly. Lastly, the solar panels are installed at a tilt angle of 14 degrees instead of 34 degrees. In my area, they recommend 34 degrees. read more

It took them more 9 months to install panels on my roof. There's clearly some disconnect between the crews that install the panels and the project managers. PM scheduled an appointment for a day, and the crew showed up 2 days before the appointment. This has happened twice! I was expecting a much better service considering the premium price they ask for and instead I had to deal with incompetent project managers who barely assisted me through the process. I lost count of how many calls and emails I sent over the past 9 most to keep the project going. I highly suggest going with another company, it's going to be cheaper for sure and you might get a better service / panels. read more

Terrible communication. Perhaps it was our designated project coordinator who dropped the ball but still inexcusable. They said they submitted our NEMS-2 application to PG&E on time but lo and behold 2 days before our scheduled installation (and AFTER the NEMS-2 deadline), they said they submitted the wrong design. We had to contact PG&E ourselves to clarify (at their suggestion) and PG&E said they never even received an application from us. This was after 6 months of back and forth emails (took weeks for them to respond) and we even upgraded our electrical panel to "optimize" their install process so we're ~$10k in and YET this whole time, they didn't even submit the correct form!! Truly infuriating and will NOT recommend this company to anyone moving forward. They are not the cheapest SOLAR company either but we figured we would be paying for quality but disappointed all around. And still waiting for them to respond as to why and HOW they dropped the ball so hard on this one. read more

I normally don't leave reviews, but I felt this one was necessary. I give five stars to Warren, Sun Power's technician, who was finally able to resolve my problem on 9/30. If it weren't for him, my solar panels would still not work because Solar Power cut costs by initially hiring a technician who didn't even connect the wires correctly, which could have RESULTED IN AN ELECTRICAL FIRE! After purchasing nine solar panels from Sun Power (for $16,000+) I had to wait FIVE MONTHS (4/25-9/30) to use my panels. I had to pay $1,600+ to my local electric company because my panels were not properly connected due to faulty installation that could have caused a fire! If you're thinking of using Sun Power to purchase solar panels, ask for Warren. He is the only one I trust at Sun Power. If Warren is unavailable, look elsewhere! read more

Sunpower solar advisor got me a package thats 120% more than I needed. Well, that was I was told. On my first year, I paid $900+ on my True Up NEM. This year, I just received my PGE bill of $2040. SunPower's customer service is non existent as well. They have automated answering bots that will make you wait more than 40 minutes just to transfer you to an agent and will then wait for more 30 minutes again. Until this time, I have not spoken to any representative. I was calling them because I wanted to add more solar panels and batteries. I mean, they do not service you well when you are trying to buy, how much less service will you get after you bought their products.. Update: This guy Thomas replying to this review is actually just responding to make it look like Sunpower wants to help. If you send him a message, he too will not respond. So be careful and stay away ftom Sunpower. read more

I called SUN POWER on 3/6/24 because I noticed my solar wasn't showing any production on the mySunPower phone application. They ran some tests on their end and said we would have to send a technician out and that they would call me and schedule it. I have called Sun Power numerous times over the last 5.5 years and they have never ONCE actually done what they said they are going to do without me calling several more times. So, I waited two days and called back on 3/8/24 to find that they still haven't done anything and they blamed Air Sun (their partner company). I called again twice on 3/26/24 and then again on 3/27/24. Everytime I call, I have to sit and wait for a very long time. It is 3/29/24 @ 11:16am and I have been on the phone with them for 18 minutes already - on hold the whole time. I already called Air Sun before this call and they told me that they are still waiting on Sun Power to approve the compensation for the work order to come out to my house and fix the solar inverter. Air Sun took less than two minutes to ascertain what I needed and what the hold up was; the hold up is completely on the Sun Power side. Right now I have talked to the woman from Sun Power three times and she cannot seem to solve this SIMPLE issue (41 minutes in and I am back on hold again). On 3/27/24 I called our power company, Southern California Edison, and they confirmed with me that our solar stopped working on 11/30/24. Today is 3/29/24 and it is still not working. That is four full months, 1/3 of a whole year, that we have been paying a lease @ $118.47/month and we have received no service from Sun Power. I already talked with Air Sun today and they said they cannot come out today even if they get the compensation approval from Sun Power. So, I wrote this on Good Friday and I figured they won't be out until at least the 1st/2nd week of April putting us at well over 4 months by the time this gets resolved. It ended up being 5 months and 3 or 4 days without service. The whole time I have been paying my lease with NO SERVICE. I am expected a refund of 5 months+ lease for services not rendered. Fast forward into mid June of 2024, I had been working with the Better Business Bureau to help try to resolve this fiasco. They really helped and got the ball rolling. They connected me with a man named John Cerna at Sun Power and he calculated 5 months and a few days of service was worth $636 and some change. He checked with me on that figure, and I agreed it was correct. He said I would be issued a check within approximately two weeks. The end of June came and went a) nd no such check arrived. I called and left message after message for John and no returned call came (408) 703-9926 is still the working number but I have since called it 40 times to no avail. I have called Sun Power approximately 90 times now on this issue (I can provide call logs if you need them). I have REPEATEDLY asked to speak to a manager/supervisor and as of today 11/13/24 I still haven't received a call nor been transferred to speak to one. SunPower went bankrupt in the middle of this whole thing and so I am contacting the BBB again to please get the ball rolling. All I hear from Sun Power is that I have to go to a website: lss.pub/splifeevents to address the issue. The website has no ability to do so. November is when my Settlement Bill is due. In November of 2023, my bill was $271.34 and in November of 2024, my bill was $1035.62, up $764.28. Not having solar for 5+ months really set our finance back and Sun Power has done NOTHING to make it right. Money talks. I have an 840 credit rating because I pay my bills and am extremely diligent about staying on top of things. I have decided that the only way to get Sun Power to call me is to stop paying my lease for 5 months (I am on month 4). They have started calling me now, but still no one has called to resolve this issue. They are calling for money, much the same as I have been since June. My next course of action if the BBB cannot help, is to call the Attorney General's Office and the California Public Utilities Commission regarding the lack of service I am receiving from SunPower. It has been dozens of calls and months of waiting. I am done with SunPower. No one, not a single person at SunPower follows through with anything they say they will do.
