This isn't a restaurant, it's literally a drive thru. Despite this, there was a line of cars waiting to order. Since my kids and I were expecting a sit-down place, we weren't prepared to review the menu on the fly. I ordered biscuits and gravy for all of us and we ate in the car. Our orders were hot and tasted fresh. The biscuits were a good balance between fluffy and dense. Loved the gravy! The price could not be beat- I paid less than $8 for our orders. We used to live in the Chapel Hill area and really like the biscuits. We were excited to order some ham biscuits via the Goldbelly website. The biscuits arrived as promised except for the fact they were warm. It was hard to determine what their original state was be it frozen or refrigerated. While they were in an insulated bag, there was only one small ice pack that had totally thawed. It was surprising that Sunrise would choose to ship this way especially when July temperatures are well into the 90's and a UPS truck isn't air conditioned. We were told the wait time was 10-15 minutes, then proceeded to wait 30 minutes for the most subpar breakfast with the grits being the only good part. One of the members of my party didn't get her pancake, the most important part of the meal obviously. Sunrise biscuits has been around Chapel Hill for a long time as one of the few (if not only) drive thrus. This place is awesome for their biscuits. As well as very affordable. I always get the chicken biscuit with cheddar. The biscuits are fluffy and the chicken is large and crispy. The cheddar that is melted just binds the two together with a complementary flavor. One of my favorite things about Sunrise is their biscuits are not too salty or soaked in grease. I've also ordered their grits, hashbrowns, and sausage biscuits. The chicken is better than the sausage, the grits are what you'd expect from a fast food drive thru, and the hashbrowns are salty and soaked in oil (what I don't like). However, the chicken biscuit with cheddar alone is enough to outweigh these negatives and maintain a 5 star review from me. After all, it is a biscuit joint! read more

Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen is as good (and bad for you) as it has always been. They were recently closed for a but due to a kitchen fire, but they are back in business now. On a recent visit, I got what I always get there which is a fried chicken biscuit with egg and cheese. It was greasily delicious (and the biscuit is huge). The hashbrowns are greasy too, but I can't deny I didn't enjoy them. The biscuit and hashbrown set me back $7.50. The town of Chapel Hill should consider adding a special traffic lane for Sunrise Biscuit kitchen because on the weekend mornings traffic can actually get backed up on Franklin Street with cars in line for biscuits! read more

Don't miss this gem in Chapel Hill! I stumbled upon it in an issue of Garden & Gun Magazine and I went the next day. This place is a drive thru/walk up only. So don't plan on sticking around. But the food is hot and fast and delicious! I ordered their chicken and cheese combo on a biscuit that came with a sweet tea and hash browns. The biscuit was hot and flakey and had this yummy crispy crust on top! The chicken was juicy and tender and fried perfectly. The hash brown was almost inedible, it tasted like rancid grease. But who cares when the chicken and biscuit is so good!? Tea was fresh and not syrup sweet like you often find in these parts, but plenty sweet, all the same. I was visiting Chapel Hill for a wedding and Sunrise Biscuit was recommended to me by a co-worker and former alumni of UNC. I read some tips from other Yelpers and decided to walk into Sunrise Biscuit vs waiting in line to order. I ordered the chicken, egg and cheese biscuit and was in and out within 2 minutes. If you can get out of your car and order inside I would recommend it- it was SUPER fast! My biscuit was HUGE and the perfect post-wedding recovery meal. There aren't any seats outside of Sunrise so we decided to go to the Cafe Dirade right down the street to eat (ps they let you bring food inside and they have a great patio area). I wish I would of asked for some mayo or ketchup for my biscuit- not because it was dry - but because I wanted some extra flavor to it. However, the chicken was super moist and the biscuit was cooked perfectly. The sandwich held together well and the biscuit did not crumble. That's a win in my book! I've been here multiple times and the food is always great, however I was a little underwhelmed with the service I received today. First, the lady at the window was rude and incredibly impatient, so much so that she decided to tap her fingernails to get me to hurry as I tried to get cash out of my wallet (which I should add took no more than 30 seconds).
