These are, in my opinion, the best biscuits in town - not too doughy, not too crispy (and the best hashbrowns - YUM), and they're cheap to boot. I usually just want a plain biscuit with butter, and I like that they'll put the butter on the biscuit while it's warm, before giving it to you, rather than just throwing a little packet of butter in the bag for you to put on later when you get home and the biscuit's cooled off. Upon arrival and after waiting in line to place our order.. we were informed that the entire place was out of chicken.. The bad grandpa was the only reason that we were checking out sunrise. Was a little weary of fried chicken breast...IMO they tend to be dry and lack flavor...but the chicken at Sunrise Biscuit was perfectly seasoned. I had the chicken biscuit with cheddar and the chicken wasn't very evenly placed on the biscuit and only filled half of it up (so I just had some unmelted cheese with flaky biscuit on the other half). The biscuits are as homemade and fresh as is possible. Buttery, crumbly goodness that makes you want more. I'd highly recommend the egg and sausage biscuit as the sausage adds the perfect zing of spice. I'd skip the cheese personally. It's just generic yellow cheese. Excellent southern food, so worth the wait. Don't expect a quick in and out. They did just add a parking lot where you can get out of your car to walk to a window and order. It has been years since I've eaten here. I had a chicken biscuit with hoop cheese at rise a couple weeks ago, so I thought I'd try here again for comparison's sake. It was just okay. The cheddar was cold and didn't melt against the chicken because it wasn't hot enough. The biscuit wasn't as fluffy as rise's. If I come back, I'll probably just get a cinnamon roll. I remember them being very good and larger than your head. On the plus side, they now have iced coffee, and it's pretty darn good. I think they add cream and sweeten it. I am a huge fan of Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen. While the location and drive through set up may not be ideal, the food well makes up for any drawbacks. The chicken biscuit and the new pork biscuit are both great, as the biscuits are fresh made every morning. There is typically a huge line (sometimes out into the road) wrapped around the building when I go, so expect to wait a little while. We drove over, and there were 3 cars in front of us (by the time we left the line had about doubled). It's a little shack off the side of Franklin Ave. and it can be pretty easy to miss. I got a cinnamon roll and my dad a fried chicken biscuit. After a "Thank ya, sweetie" from the lady working, we pulled into a spot and dove into our food. My cinnamon roll was far and away the best I've had. Not too much icing, and not too heavy either. I figured it would be very heavy, but it wasn't. The biscuit my dad got was fluffy with just the perfect amount of butter. I would absolutely stop by again next time I'm Chapel Hill. Two thumbs way up! read more

I don't get why people make comparisons to Bojangles. It's kind of like comparing Pepper's to Domino's or Buns to McDonald's. Sunrise biscuits are light, fluffy, and buttery. Bojangles are heavy, crumbly, greasy, and salty. Pretty much anything they put between a biscuit tastes good. I want to love the chicken biscuit, but the quality of the chicken breast is variable--sometimes perfect, sometimes overdone and dry. It's a drive-through only. To be honest, I don't know what you would do if you wanted to walk-up and order. The set-up is horrible. Cars often spill into the right lane of west-bound Franklin. If you're trying to get there from the opposite side of the street, you have to make a U-turn just to get in line. Only open about 6AM-2PM. And, they do take credit cards. read more

I love biscuits and this place got really good reviews so I decided I had to check it out. I got the bacon egg and cheese on a biscuit. It was a little greasy but delicious nonetheless!!! My sister and mom both got plain biscuits and a coffee and a sweet tea. It is a drive through but there is a parking lot right next to it that you can park in and eat or there are a few picnic benches towards the back of the parking lot under the trees you can eat at as well. Went through the drive-thru (which is the only option) and got a ham and egg biscuit, ham, egg, and cheese biscuit, and a chicken, egg, and cheese biscuit. All three were delightful, with the Chicken one being the best (to me). The chicken was really good and fresh, the biscuits were made fresh. The only disappointing thing was that the biscuits were slightly dry. I know biscuits can be that way, they are biscuits, but some bites were just super dry and hard to swallow. Second time here. For the money, this place has the best biscuits and fried chicken out there. Period. Nothing better. In fact, I ended up buying 2 of them (biscuit, fried chicken, and cheese) and saving one for a second meal later on in the day for under $9. I'm not sure, but I taste the tartness from buttermilk in the brine, and some rosemary and thyme in there as well. The fry is crunchy and light, and the biscuit is perfect (a light crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside). It would be even better if they fried on demand, and the biscuits just came out of the oven, but other than that, for a drive-thru where they serve you in seconds of your order, I don't see how it can get any better.
