Let's start with the very good. Our server was very good. I swear she has eyes in the back of her head, just like my mom. She scooped up my husbands empty water as soon as he finished it off. She was very friendly and quick. We also enjoyed the large coffee mugs. Now, onto the not so good. I ordered the special of the day omelet, crab with spinach and hollandaise. There were shells in the crab meat. After the third I just started picking out the spinach and egg. The hollandaise was also not very tasty. My husband had eggs with country fried chicken. It was okay. We shared an order of corned beef hash, it was also just okay, very similar to what comes out of the can, not homemade with strings of corned beef and irregular cut potatoes (hard to find it like that anywhere). Another issue we had was that there was a cup on the table with little packages of butter on top and creamer under them. My husband poured cream into his grits thinking it was butter. Both the cream and the butter were in white containers, easy to do if you're not paying attention. I guess it would be worse if I put butter in my coffee. I was told the fruit was fresh, well, it wasn't. You know how cantelope gets watery around the edges a few days after it has been cut? It was that way. One more thing irritated me. There were four empty booths in the section we were seated in and there was a line of people waited to be seated going out the door IN THE RAIN. My husband thought they weren't being seated because perhaps the kitchen was backed up and they would have to wait too long for their food once seated. Service was fast and friendly. I was greeted immediately and had my coffee within a minute of sitting. Food was delicious, I had French toast, eggs and bacon. Bacon was done to perfection. Only gripe was that after I received the food, I was forgotten and additional coffee and the check were a bit slow in coming. My husband and I ate here and both had breakfast. We got there at 11: 00 and we were seated right away. Staff super friendly. Our waitress was super sweet. I ordered the skillet with bacon and my husband ordered the country fried chicken. My dish was I would say meh..? Really no flavor at all and very dry. The eggs had cheese and peppers but couldn't really taste anything and the bacon in it was like eating bacon bits. The home fries were not bad. My husband said his country fried chicken was good and really moist so that's a plus. I would give it another try buy I will definitely order something else next time. read more

My wife and I were headed to a kid's birthday party and thought it would be a good idea to have a nice breakfast on the way there. There really isn't much to say about Sunrise. It has a nice setup and the menu is alright. I'm probably a little biased on breakfast menus since I like something to jump out at me and grab my attention on the menu but Sunrise doesn't have that which alright. Huge portions, great service. Love their eggs benedict. A staple for our VA Beach visits. Really limited parking and the restaurant gets really busy in the mornings, no matter what day of the week... So sometimes it's better to wait until after 10am to go if you can. read more

This place is very much like every diner. I will give the edge though, as it pertains to breakfast diners, to Sunrise because their prices, quality of food, and portions of food were great. I ordered the Churizo Omelette and a side order of Sweet Potato Pancakes. The omelette was great and the pancakes were respectable. I come here all the time with my family, they have the best sweet tea around. The staff is super friendly and always talks with you. Something was off about this place. Staff was friendly but it seemed forced. Food came out quick, real quick, in less than 5 minutes. Like it was made ahead. I know, some people would complain about being hung with a new rope. It just added to the weirdness. My food was fine. Over easy, bacon done well. Sausage was like brown and serve. Toast was fluffy and soaked up the yoke great. Veggies in the omlet where raw. Pancakes where fine. Do your customers a favor and assign wait staff there tables ahead instead of making us listen to the argument. read more

I've always loved coming here. It's awesome to have a breakfast place with a full bar without the high prices. The food is pretty good most of the time. Pancakes there are extraordinary and their home fries are like no other. The bar seating is nice to avoid the wait if it's crowded, you have to watch all of the behind the scenes stuff happen there though because it is their main work station (silverware wrapping, filling salt and sugar containers, refills etc.) but the staff is friendly and courteous to those sitting there and do things quietly and with a smile. There are some fantastically friendly employees there and everyone seems to actually enjoy working there. read more

One of the worst breakfast I have ever had in virginia beach. All processed food, eggs overlooked , cheap quality bacon and sausage, their home fries are deep fried potato cubes, no onions. Came in on a busy Sunday and yes the wait was only 15min compared to 45-60min at other local family bfast places but it was not hard to figure to figure out why. Denny's would have been a better choice today. The utensils were not clean (yes for all 4 of us). The order came out wrong and and lukewarm. The waiter is explaining to me that my order of scrambled eggs and pepper jack cheese has no pepper jack because "the cheddar cheese comes with a blend of pepper jack." Need I go on? read more

I recently dined at Sunrise Cafe and although the experience was great, the wait was short and the staff was very friendly, I was not won over by what I ordered. I had the breakfast burrito and I personally thought it was bland and heavy. In fact most of the breakfast items on their menu are heavy items and large portions. Now for some that could be a positive thing, but for me I tend to like my breakfast bold in taste and on the lighter side. What a nice place to go have breakfast and lunch. It's American with Filipino influences. The owner and staff are down home nice. If I was a local this would be my place. We went twice while on our honeymoon. My wife enjoyed the shrimp and grits I had fried rice, eggs and chicken and dumplings. Try the lumpia rolls a type of egg roll but better. While the food was good, the service was slow and spare. I had ordered hash browns and regular pancakes and received home fries and chocolate chip pancakes. I couldn't even let my waitress know of the mistake because she was soon gone and hardly seen. Don't think we'll be going back there any time soon. read more

Use to come here all the time when my kids had swim lessons at Lynnhaven Dive. Now we've stopped beacuse we live live at Red Mill/Strawbridge area. Still it shouldnt deter us. We liked it there! The food was great along with the service. There was this one waitress (older) who was always good with my kids. How people compl. about the littlest of things is beyond me! Had breakfast here this morning for the first time. We ordered the Mexican omelet and the Shrimp & Spinach omelet. Both were excellent. The shredded hash browns were very good. The buttered wheat toast was perfect. Service from everyone was very quick and friendly. I will recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more
