This little hole in the wall by the j mart/ food lion is so quaint you can barely see it, but once you're in there you are in a world of food goodness. Service was fast, nice and homey, just like a nice old school diner. Waitress came up to us often and I believe one of the owners or maybe the older folks came to us and called us hunny and you cannot get that service anymore. We got the biscuits and gravy and reuben and they pretty much slap. I can't say I've had a bad sammich/ biscuits, but those were pretty good. Service is good. Waitress checked in with us a couple of times. First time here, ordered their corned beef hash special as it seems it's highlighted on the menu as recommended. Corned beef was not as chunky as I had expected. It had a lot of potato bits which was too much potatoes as the corned beef hash was sitting on a bed of roasted potatoes. Sunny side up eggs were cooked perfectly, Ambiance is typical neighborhood grill cafe. Wish they used newer mugs - mine was slightly chipped and cracked! I got the corned beef platter with eggs, home fries, grits, and toast, also sausage gravy with a biscuit. The prices are pretty reasonable here. Its a tiny restaurant, so i prefer take out. Because there could be a wait for a table. The staff is friendly and they always seem pretty busy when i go in. If you get the corned beef hash make sure you try the jalapeño sauce it comes with. The sauce makes it pop!! The sausage gravy was good once i added some seasoning, but it was bland. The biscuit was good. They toasted it on the grill. The grits were a little dry. Nice place for breakfast. I have visited this restaurant twice and both times everything was good overall. The restaurant is small and has a homey feel, there's about 20 tables and a countertop with barstools. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable. My food is always perfect. Happened upon this place after my son's soccer game down the street on a Saturday morning looking for pancakes but wanting to support a small local business. Upon entering it was packed out and I it looked like there might be a wait, but they quickly pushed some tables together and made room for my party of 4. While we were waiting everyone seated by the door could tell it was our first time and started to make suggestions, you could feel the love the regulars have for this place. Our server was super kind, friendly, and even made some jokes to interact with the kids. We waited quite a bit for our food (over 40 mins) but I'm still giving 5 stars because the atmosphere was a VIBE and we enjoyed ourselves having quality family time while waiting and also understanding it's a small kitchen. This was a weekday visit for a late breakfast. It was a little hard to find the stripmall location on a side street, thank goodness GPS. It is a sit anywhere mom and pop restaurant well supported by locals. The dining room haHightower. tables and chairs along with hightops. The menu is basic good food. Drinks were fast, and the server was pleasant and attentive. She loved to listen to my husband's countless stories, like reading an adventure book to a child. He ordered the Big Grill Scramble. It has potatoes, peppers, onions, eggs, and sausage, really filling, and half came home. I wanted something simpler, so it was the plain French toast and bacon. The French toast had some sweetness to it even without the add-ons of powdered sugar. It also has cinnamon and butter, yes, real butter. The bacon was crispy and salty. It seemed like a long time to get the food, even though there were 3 cooks in the kitchen. Carry out was happening, too. When it finally arrived, it was worth waiting for. We will probably come back on our next visit to the area, it is a distance of 13 miles from our resort. read more

I had the club sandwich, which was fresh and satisfying, while my husband ordered the Zombie, labeled as a local favorite. He really enjoyed the homemade chili in the dish and said it added great flavor. He did wish the burger patties had a bit more seasoning, but overall, it was a hearty and delicious meal. I was going over to food lions and wegmans and so I finally went to eat here finally tried them and i got country fried steak with homemade sausage, 2 sunny side eggs and homefried potatoes and a sweet tea. We were served right away and staff were friendly and efficient. We beat the crowd. Probably 10-15 minutes later it started to get packed. They offer breakfast and lunch items. I chose the zombie burger. Maybe I didn't read the description carefully because I didn't realize it came with TWO burger patties and it is one massive meal. It was really good, but this item falls under heart blocking food. It came with two burger patties, onions, peppers, bacon, cheese, chili and fries are on the bottom. My word. I asked myself before I started eating, am I going to die after this? I'm still here writing this, so I got my answer. I had another burger patty left and all the other toppings left, so I packed it for home and it lasted me another two meals. My husband ordered the biscuit and gravy combo and that was a generous helping also!! He enjoyed his meal as well! We will definitely put this on our rotation of breakfast spots. Found a little gem hidden inside a plaza worth going to . They have great shops all around here. This place is small, but has a big heart !!! They know their regulars by name and keep the coffee flowing on the mornings. My younger son ordered all by himself today and asked for pancakes and sausage links. They were good. First place I ate at in the new year so I had to support a local business. Now let me be honest...I was really on the hunt for the best mimosa deal LOL but i stumbled across some pretty good breakfast food. The location is very snug so they can't fit so many parties inside due to Covid regulations of course. The waitresses were nice and accommodating. The food came quick and our orders were correct! Not pictured but TOTALLY worth the mention: the big grill scramble. I am jealous I didn't get it but it was a breakfast dream in a bowl... if you're into scramblers this is for you! What do you need to know: -$4 mimosa (assortment of juices to pair your champagne with) - very inexpensive meal for the quality - plenty parking -good service The only reason they didn't get a 5 star is because nothing really stood out here. Super sweet people. It's a smaller place, but who doesn't love a good hidin "hole in the wall"! The crowd was a little older, but thats always a good sign! Older folks know what's good! I got the biscuits and gravy and crunchy french toast and it was soooooo good. The potatoes were amazing. The sausage patties were good as well. Eggs were well eggs! To have spent like under $30 for 3 meals the food was GREAT! This was my second or third time to Big Grill. It's a little diner tucked in the Aragona strip mall. Fantasy Escape is still there if you like gaming, cards, or comics. Skip the sushi place. The staff seems to have been there a long time and there are a lot of regulars. I'll be a regular if they keep serving up such great omelettes! I had the southwestern, which differs from the western because it comes with salsa and sour cream on top. I skipped the sour cream, and it was delicious all around. I was hungry and I killed that giant thing. It's a steal at just under $10! They didn't have any shredded potatoes, so I got the cubed. Not my favorite food... they didn't win me over with potatoes, but they werent bad either. My toast came out lightly toasted, the way I like it. The restaurant is a little dated and playing oldies and crummy 70s television doesn't help to keep new blood coming in. But, it's a great spot in the Virginia Beach brunch wars cause you won't be idling outside for an hour for overpriced food and a crappy mimosa. read more

I am not much of a breakfast person. But when my husband and I were in Norfolk for the weekend, this was one of the places that he wanted to try out. The Big Grill is nice, cosy and locally owned restaurant. It was exactly what I was looking for-a place owned by locals, frequented by locals! We were seated as soon as we walked in-and we came just at the right time too because it had gotten quite busy by the time we left. We placed our orders with the friendly server and we didn't wait long for our food to arrive. The portions are quite generous. I had the Southwestern Omelette and it was delicious. Stuffed with ham, mushrooms, tomatoes green peppers, cheese and topped with salsa, jalapeño and sour cream, I enjoyed every single bite! My husband ordered their French toast as well as the Western Omelette. I will tell you, not much talking was done because we were busy enjoying our food! I make it a point to always try and eat at a place that's locally owned when visiting a new place. You can tell a lot about the city and its people when you eat at local businesses.
