Visiting and found on Yelp. As always, the places that are packed and are holes in the wall are the best! There was a short wait, once seated we were greeted and brought drinks. We went for breakfast and got an omelet, a waffle, and an egg breakfast with sausage. All cooked great and delish! Lots of coffee and drink refills. And prompt service. Just like the name says, this is what I would call a classic diner. We happened to be in Virginia Beach for a wedding and wanted to grab something 'good' for breakfast before catching our flight home. Classic Diner fit the bill very well! (Thank you Yelpers.) The service as very good in a "local/folksy" sort of way. The food was very good in a local/southern style sort of way and the portions were good -- significant but not overwhelming. I haven't had Creamed Chipped Beef over a Biscuit since attending college in Oklahoma many moons ago. And my better half felt her veggie omelette was very good, too, if not very southern The decor/setting? 'Classic diner' all the way. My daughter and I stopped by on a random Tuesday in March around 10 AM, and the place was *packed* -- clearly a popular spot with the locals. The restaurant is pretty small, so there wasn't much room to move around, which made it feel a bit cramped. One odd part of the experience was a large dog someone brought inside. It was definitely not a service animal -- it was whining, pacing, and even getting into other people's space and near their tables. The waitress looked visibly annoyed (and honestly, I don't blame her). It made things uncomfortable for everyone around. That said, the food was great! I've only had the Cheeseburger here and it was BOMB!! The fact that they let me add an extra patty (for a price) makes it even better, because I LOVE me a good double/triple cheeseburger. My measure of any diner or breakfast place is always scrambled eggs. You'd be pretty surprised how many places mess this simple staple up. Not Classic Diner though. Perfectly cooked! The grits are just as yummy as they were on our first trip. They know how to do grits here! But here's the thing that says it all for me, and this seems small, but it's the English muffins. So many places slice them. English muffins are not meant to be sliced! Grrr. Classic Diner knows this and splits them. I mean seriously where else is the butter supposed to go if not in the "nooks and crannies?" Hubby had a cheesesteak on this trip and loved it. It is sliced thin like steak ums, but unlike some places, this was cooked really well (instead of over cooked). The bread was excellent as well! I tried the Greek 2 egg omelette (you have a choice of a 2 eggs or 3 eggs). It was so tasty. I chose home fries and cinnamon toast for my sides. The home fries were delicious as was the toast. Classic Diner is located in the Providence Square Shopping Center. I heard about this place from a friend at work, so I decided to come out and try them as I'm always up to trying something new to me. My visit here was on February 16, 2020. When you see the place from the outside, it doesn't look like much with other places right next to it. However, once you come inside, you will notice it is a small place, but it definitely has the look and feel of a diner. It was busy, but not overly busy when we came in, so we were immediately seated. The table had ads on them as well, which is typical of a diner. This was in the morning, so we were here for breakfast. Within a moment or so, our server was at the table asking if we wanted something to drink and if we were ready to order. We weren't ready to order food yet since this was the first time visiting. When she came back with our drinks, we were then ready to order. I got the French Toast Deluxe with bacon and eggs. My mom got the House Omelet. A little under 10 minutes after ordering, our breakfast orders came to the table. They were nice and hot, including the eggs and bacon. The French Toast was very good, along with the bacon and eggs. My mom liked her omelet as well. Throughout the visit, even though it was busy, our server was very attentive as well. Overall, this was a very good first experience here. You don't get to see too many places in this area that have the feel of a diner. With great food and service, even though it's a bit further away from where I am in the city, I will definitely come back after the pandemic subsides. This is a Mom-and-Pop run Waffle House-style joint with '50's and '60's nostalgia vibe; and a counter with stools like you see in old movies. Our coffee cups and water glasses were never empty. If you want très chic, this place ain't got it. The food is basic no frills comfort food served quickly with a smile. Try the eggs benedict. The eggs cooked perfectly, tasty Hollandaise sauce, and creamy grits. A winner. My wife had the pancake breakfast. Two gorgeous covered-the-plate fluffy flapjacks with the rest of her breakfast on the side. She couldn't finish it. Overall, i enjoyed to all, especially the sausage and hash browns. I wish the bacon was a little crispier but that's a personal choice. As I looked around, all the plates looked really appealing, especially the hamburger and onion rings. I'm definitely going back to give that a chance. The staff really stood out to me during my visit. The cooks were hard at work and the wait staff was hustling but still stopped to check on the customers, many of whom appeared to be regulars. On our visit yesterday morning, hubby ordered the french toast. Though described as "jumbo slices of homemade challah" it was more like regular white bread so it didn't live up to the claim of being jumbo. Our family has lived close to this diner for about ten years. We frequent often because the food is consistently good, the prices are reasonable, the staff is always nice, and its locally owned. Definitely a "diner" in all senses of the concept. No frills food, small space and homestyle feel. However, when all is said is done, an omelet is an omelet.
