Homemade Home Fries
Dena W.

If you like diner food, you'll definitely like this spot another great hidden local gem! Loved by locals. It was a rainy day and decided to go. It was still very busy. Sat at the breakfast counter love a place that has a counter. The cooks and the waitress are very friendly. Was wanting some home fries and French toast. Definitely a win-win when you order the home fries just make sure you tell them you want them. Well done if you want them crispy. Their menu is filled with a classic diner food. If you're looking for sausage biscuits and gravy, I'm sure they've got you covered. I've seen it on another person's plate and it looked very good. My French toast was cooked to perfection just like my potatoes. Very simple and very affordable and yes, I will be going back.

Just like the name says, this is what I would call a classic diner. We happened to be in Virginia Beach for a wedding and wanted to grab something 'good' for breakfast before catching our flight home. Classic Diner fit the bill very well! (Thank you Yelpers.) The service as very good in a "local/folksy" sort of way. The food was very good in a local/southern style sort of way and the portions were good -- significant but not overwhelming. I haven't had Creamed Chipped Beef over a Biscuit since attending college in Oklahoma many moons ago. And my better half felt her veggie omelette was very good, too, if not very southern The decor/setting? 'Classic diner' all the way. I'm not sure how often we'll find ourselves in Virginia Beach, but if we ever are and happing to be looking for a solid breakfast, this is where we'll end up.

My daughter and I stopped by on a random Tuesday in March around 10 AM, and the place was *packed* -- clearly a popular spot with the locals. The restaurant is pretty small, so there wasn't much room to move around, which made it feel a bit cramped. One odd part of the experience was a large dog someone brought inside. It was definitely not a service animal -- it was whining, pacing, and even getting into other people's space and near their tables. The waitress looked visibly annoyed (and honestly, I don't blame her). It made things uncomfortable for everyone around. That said, the food was great! It came out hot, fresh, and exactly as we ordered. Despite the chaos with the dog and the tight space, the food made up for it. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

Jumbo Cheeseburger French Fries Extra Patty

I've only had the Cheeseburger here and it was BOMB!! The fact that they let me add an extra patty (for a price) makes it even better, because I LOVE me a good double/triple cheeseburger. The place itself was also really small, which I love, and the service was excellent. I was sitting at the bar one time and the remote for my car fell out of my pocket (handle broke). I thought I lost it, but another patron told me that an employee found it and I got it back from them. If you're there for a bomb ass meal around breakfast/brunch (they do close at 2), this is the place to get it

Such a hidden gem! It gives very much mom and pop vibes. As soon as we arrived, we knew the food was going to be fire. We walked in, were warmly greeted, and sat quickly. Our server was very welcoming and prompt. The food was delicious. The portions were large so you will leave full and satisfied!!

Soooo good! Small place that definitely packs you in and worth the wait. Really good comfort food that came out quick. Multiple coffee refills - will definitely be back!

Classic Diner - oh YES it is! This is our second thine eating here and both trips were fantastic. This is not Michelin star food, this is just good diner food done really really well. My measure of any diner or breakfast place is always scrambled eggs. You'd be pretty surprised how many places mess this simple staple up. Not Classic Diner though. Perfectly cooked! The grits are just as yummy as they were on our first trip. They know how to do grits here! But here's the thing that says it all for me, and this seems small, but it's the English muffins. So many places slice them. English muffins are not meant to be sliced! Grrr. Classic Diner knows this and splits them. I mean seriously where else is the butter supposed to go if not in the "nooks and crannies?" Hubby had a cheesesteak on this trip and loved it. It is sliced thin like steak ums, but unlike some places, this was cooked really well (instead of over cooked). The bread was excellent as well! The staff is super friendly - every single one of them. Trust, we will definitely be back again!

I had a great breakfast experience, and had no idea that this no frills place existed. A nice little diner with great food and awesome service. My waitress was great, but it seems like the staff actually enjoy working with each other, which elevated my experience at the diner. For my dining pleasure, I went with the country omelette, and it was top notch. I definitely see myself returning to Classic Diner to satisfy my breakfast cravings.

Always quality food and service. Their name says it all "Classic Diner". Seems like a lot of regulars and that's a pretty good sign.

The Brick House Diner is located in the Providence Square Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. This…read moreshopping center is accessible from both Providence Rd. and Kempsville Rd. I have had a few visits here now, and the most recent visit was on January 12, 2026. At the beginning of each new year, I like to try a place that I have never been to before, so January 1, 2026, was the first time I had come here. My mom was with me. Depending on when you come in general, parking can be limited at times with all the other businesses in this shopping center. Upon first look at the place from the outside, you can see the name and logo pretty easily. It looks similar to other places that happen to be in this same shopping center. We got here around 8 am on that first visit. When we came inside, it wasn't too busy yet, likely due to others probably still sleeping after being up past midnight for the new year. The inside of the place has a modern diner type of vibe, which fits the restaurant well. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server Brooke came over pretty quickly and asked us what we would like to drink. I just do my usual of water with lemon, and my mom had gotten coffee. It would take us a little while to choose since there lots of good items to choose from. When she came back to check again, we were ready this time. I figured I'd get something I don't normally do, so I went for the French Toast Combo with scrambled eggs, bacon, and baked apples. My mom decided to go with the Ultimate Skillet with rye toast. The food would come out pretty quick. It was around ten minutes or so. Both breakfast entrees looked really good and they were hot. It felt like an indulgence when I started on the French toast since it has been a long time since having it. The baked apples were great too, and something else I don't normally have. I will note that I didn't get a blood sugar spike after this meal either that day. My mom enjoyed the Ultimate Skillet as much as I did with the French Toast Combo. After the experience from that first visit, we came back to try the lunch/dinner menu options for dinner that day. This visit was on January 12, 2026. After being seated initially, we moved over to a table since the booths were a bit tight. Kellie was our server on this visit. She asked us what we wanted to have to drink, and I went with water with lemon and my mom went with a coke. After taking some time to look over the menu, we were ready to order. My mom decided not to have too much, so she just went with the Loaded Baked Potato side item. I decided to try the Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich with the homemade chips as the side. Just like the last time, it took about ten minutes or so for the food to come out. The sandwich I had was really good, and so were the homemade chips. This time, this meal did spike my blood sugar levels, but it was so good. My mom told me afterwards that the loaded baked potato she had come out cold. It was then that we let the server know, and she asked if she wanted to get it redone. She said no but wanted to take it home instead. The server did take off the cost of that item. It was likely due to it sitting before my sandwich was ready to bring them out together. Mom did get a box to bring it home and had it later that evening, and she said it was good when it was heated up at home too. Overall, we have had a few very good experiences here. The food and service were good, and the issue for my mom was handled well too. That shows they truly care about the experience of the visitors here. Both menus may be just two sides, but there is quite a bit to choose from. I think anyone would find something they would like here. There is one thing I want to note when it comes to paying. There is a 3% surcharge added to the total including taxes if you use a credit card instead of cash. In the end, if you are looking for a diner type of place, this one is worth checking out.

Our thoughts: Service: there was a breakdown in communication we requested to be seated outside and no one was assigned to take our order. So we had to go fetch someone to be serviced. They apologized. We were waiting to receive a steak knife to cut our fried chicken they forgot to bring that. Our server was very informative when asked about the restaurant concept and menu. She and the person she was training were very friendly. Food: we applaud the concept and the risk to infuse various cultures into the menu. Portion size for a $5 side of home fries was disappointing we are thinking it was maybe a half of a potato. The menu is diverse and the price point isn't bad. Ambiance: ok, we sat outside. We liked the diversity of customers coming in. Unfortunately this is a one and done for us and not because we are visiting just because we are food critics and know what we like.

We made a special trip to Rustic Spoon for my husband's birthday because their website listed…read morescotch eggs, which was something he'd been craving forever and that we hadn't been able to find anywhere around town. It happened to be Restaurant Week, which made us a little nervous, but it ended up being totally fine. The dining room never felt overly crowded, the noise level was comfortable, and having the Restaurant Week prix fixe, drink specials, and regular menu all available gave us plenty of options without feeling overwhelming. One small note: the plastic logo cups served with the water decanter felt a little out of place. They were a bit sharp on the lips and didn't quite match the rest of the dining experience. Minor detail, but noticeable. The drinks, however, were excellent. On our server's recommendation, my husband ordered the Gingerbread Old Fashioned and I had the Salted Caramel Martini. Both were seasonal specials and both were fantastic. When we asked about the scotch eggs, our server explained they're normally a brunch-only item. We were a little disappointed (and may have made a few pouty faces while explaining we'd come specifically for them for his birthday), but we quickly let it go, it obviously wasn't her fault. What we didn't realize was that she went back and told the kitchen manager that it was his birthday and that we'd made the trip just for those scotch eggs. Since the kitchen wasn't slammed, they decided to make them anyway and surprised us with an order. We were honestly floored. My husband was thrilled. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. And the scotch eggs were exactly what he'd been hoping for! They were crispy on the outside with a rich, savory center. For entrées, his Nashville Hot Chicken was juicy with the perfect amount of heat without being overwhelming. My Haystack Burger was stacked and delicious, though the BBQ sauce was strong enough to overshadow the pickled green tomato a bit. The fries were fantastic - crispy, battered, and perfect from first bite to last. Our server checked in at all the right times and kept drinks refilled without us needing to ask. The fact that she went out of her way to do something special during one of the busiest weeks on a restaurant's calendar says a lot about both her and the restaurant. Rustic Spoon is the kind of place that works just as well for a casual date night as it does for a birthday dinner or a night out with friends.

Next time must try their lavender latte or pistachio... but gotta get it before 5/31 as it's available for a limited time! Definitely recommend the brekki bowl with cheese grits and fried chicken! You will not be disappointed. Cheese grits like "buhhhttah" without the oily and maybe the calories?! But honestly, so flavorful and creamy without the guilty feeling for having something that tastes so good. The veggies are fresh and perfectly cooked to give you great texture contrast. And let me tell you about their fried chicken!! Chefs kiss! Moist, flavorful lightly breaded chicken fried to perfection that had a slight kick for this girl. In full disclosure black pepper is spicy for me so take that with a grain of salt. And for those of you like me that believe there is never too much salt and add salt to your salt but need to cut that bad habit... this whole dish is the perfect amount of salt. I literally never had to add just a little more. The goat cheese crumbles gave each bite the little extra tah-dah pop that might have been otherwise gotten had you like me added a few more shakes of salt to the dish. Seriously though, if you are watching to slowly cut back on having to add salt to your food, this dish is for you! The service was great and everyone was friendly and hustling!
