I've been wanting, needing, and missing good Trinidadian food since I moved from Brooklyn and finally I had my tastebuds satisfied (sorry no pictures). The menu was absolutely stacked with everything you'd ever want from a trini spot; doubles, aloo pie, phlourie, bakes, sorrel, rotis done with all the curried meats-goat, chicken, shrimp etc. I knew I had to have a curry chicken roti with extra pepper and tamarind and then a couple of doubles with the same. These were not the best doubles I've had but I've had some phenomenal doubles back in my Brooklyn days but these were good enough to satisfy me. The roti, though not with boneless chicken, (perhaps I'm bougie or have been spoiled) was really good though. Now that I know this place is up there, I'll likely try to find my way back for another visit. I want to run through more of the menu and maybe even check out some of the vegetarian/vegan options as well. Service was pleasant and the wait time was pretty standard.

    chicken curry with dhalpuri roti

I was craving trini food bad and had this restaurant on my next food adventure. I was welcomed with open arms and had difficulty choosing what I wanted since they have so many delicious options (including vegetarian and vegan options.) I settled for the chicken curry with dhalpuri. I had questions as to what dhalpuri was and they proudly answered questions I needed answers for. I just knew from the first bite that I was going to come back to try more. the curry chicken was packed with flavors and paired amazing with the dhalpuri. I also got a passionfruit and sorrel drink, which both are to DIE FOR. My personal favorite was the passionfruit and the sorrel packed a nice, sweet punch to it. I have to go back and try their other menu items. truly an amazing experience and with wonderful staff that are always there to help with a smile!

My family that lives out in Maryland recommended Sunrise so we decided to head down to D.C. to visit. I'm happy we ended up going because I'm always down for any local spots offering vegan options and delicious Jamaican food. When we got to the restaurant, everything smelled amazing and I immediately knew what I wanted to order after seeing the mac and cheese come fresh from the kitchen. There were a lot of options, but I went with the vegan jerk chicken, rice & peas and mac & cheese platter. My boyfriend decided on the oxtails, rice & peas and mac & cheese. The restaurant provided a big generous portion and the food was nice and hot. My family and I took our food to-go and we were dying to try everything because it smelt amazing. The second I opened the takeout container, I immediately grabbed a bite of the vegan jerk chicken and rice & peas and I was in heaven. The chick'n was flavorful with a nice spice and the rice & peas brought everything together, The mac & cheese was also a good side. Next time I want to try out one of the other vegetable sides, but I really enjoyed my meal and had enough for leftovers for the next day. My boyfriend said he liked his food, as well but did feel like he did not get a lot of oxtails vs. the price. Next time he said he would try out the stewed chicken so we will definitely be stopping by again next time we're over in D.C.! Shoutout to Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant for offering delicious food and a solid experience!

We had a catering order & all 8 of us were not satisfied. Regardless of the different orders they all looked the same, saturated in a Curry like sauce that was not remotely close to an island Gravy. Me & two other Vegans were pretty interested before-hand as the menu displayed a variety of plant based entrees. Again, different orders prepared & tasted the same. Another issue - 5 items that were ordered was not available at pick up. One of my co-workers who makes Oxtails in her sleep was adamant she was eating something far from the cattle norm, perhaps Goat she thought. I stayed in my Vegan lane & allowed others to share that debate...it was slightly interesting. Nonetheless, although we were appreciative for the luncheon as a collective, we did not enjoy the food. I can't say for sure if I would make the effort to visit in house.

Food & service. My experience was very poor. Owner couldn't take accountability and criticism. Expressed professionally about my experience and was attacked instead. I was embarrassed and more importantly unheard as a customer . We aren't always right but this time, the customer was.

I ordered takeout from Sunrise Caribbean this weekend because I was craving Caribbean food and this was sooo good! I ordered the oxtail, which came with rice and cabbage. The portion size is GREAT, I was able to split the box into three meals for the weekend (though keep in mind, I am small and eat slightly less than the average person. The food is also SO DELICIOUS so I didn't mind eating it throughout the weekend! I highly recommend the oxtail, it's so tender and the sauce it's cooked in is amazing. The rice was also sooo good and complemented the oxtail so well. My roommate also got the escovitch fish for herself and I tried a bite of it and I definitely want to get it for myself next time to really get a taste of it! So if you're thinking you're more in the mood for fish, that's definitely a strong choice. I know it's hard right now with an ongoing pandemic, but if you are looking to treat yourself every now and then, please give Sunrise Caribbean a try!!

This is my favorite place for vegan Caribbean food! The staff is very kind and there's a great variety of food. Also, they have black cake! Next time we will try their veggie patties. Big up, Sunrise Caribbean, for bringing delicious food from my husband's home to DC!

Jerk Chicken, Rice and Beans, cabbage, Potato and Channa Roti

Ordered from Uber Eats and everything came hot despite the delivery taking some time (they're far from me and probably had a lot of orders), which I was really happy with. To start, is an incredible amount of food in one meal. The jerk chicken had a lot of meat, there was plenty of rice and cabbage, and the giant mound of roti came wrapped separately. The potato and channa roti was probably my favorite. The roti comes a little shredded they give you so much potato. The jerk chicken was not too spicy or overly salty and it had a great flavor. I could've done without so much rice, beans, and cabbage but the entrees come with them as sides so I wasn't complaining. Definitely looking forward to trying more dishes from this place!

We ordered a variety of chicken wings, along with french fries and some light fare. The VIP room has a lively ambiance, equipped with four large-screen TVs, seating for 60 people, making it perfect for events. From the outside, the building appears smaller than it actually is, as it's a multi-level venue that can host various events simultaneously. The restaurant downstairs offers a Caribbean menu that has received positive reviews, particularly for its brunch. It's also heartwarming to note that the restaurant is named in honor of the owner's late mother, Seta, adding a personal touch to the experience. I plan to return and explore more of their offerings in the future.

I mean there was only another couple at the time I visited but also the food came out quickly so huge plus! And the restaurant is spacious and casual so enough space for large parties. Overall I enjoyed it but there are a couple things that fell short! I ordered the chicken roti platter. 1.The roti! It's a very small portion served in a small coconut shaped bowl compared to the amount of food you got on the platter. I thought more was coming and unfortunately it was balled up in shredded little pieces that were kind of dry and i couldn't eat it properly with my sides. I thought maybe I had a bad batch but my friend had the same portion and complaint. Unfortunately no pic of that. 2: Honestly the plating is meant to be aesthetically pleasing but it was very hard to eat bone-in chicken out of a bowl on a saucer full of more bowls with a knife and fork. It was better when I took it to go and had a plate at home. Please reconsider this for the diners experience. 3. The doubles was my fave! It's a small app but very delicious and had a slight kick to it.
