This has to be one of the best mac and cheeses I've ever had. I'm not even kidding. This is the second time I've ordered from here, the first time I ordered for pick up, and the second time through Uber Eats, so I can't speak about the service and vibe. However, let's get into this food. Both times, I have ordered the wings and tingz. I know I need to try something different next time :). My food was so good that I had to eat in silence. I didn't even have the energy to put on a show; I just needed a moment alone with my platter to savor every bite. I think the mac and cheese has the perfect consistency of creamy, crusted cheese and flavor. The wings are really good, too! This location opened up fairly recently, and what better way to celebrate a festive day than to support a new local business? Before you even step inside, they've got the dancehall and reggae blasting. The vibe is already set. I stepped inside and noticed a lot of folks sitting around and waiting. I saw that there's a dine-in section, but it's blocked off -- it would appear that for now it is strictly takeout, which is fine. But when the dine-in opens up it's going to be quite busy. It looks very inviting, I can tell! I went up to the register and was greeted warmly by the gentleman, who gave me a heads up that any jerk chicken would take around 25 minutes. Appreciated the heads up! I've had Di Yardie, which is your typical jerk chicken entree before, so I decided to switch it up a bit and get the Jerk box with mac. Paying was easy, and I stepped out to take a call and grab a dessert from elsewhere to pass the time. When I returned, it was even more crowded, and it took me a while just to get up to there to grab my order. The dude was patient, professional, and calm, but I could tell that he was getting slammed and a couple folks were getting impatient. They just opened, and this is a good sign that they're already getting so busy... so I understand why the dine-in section is closed right now. He was on his own taking orders, so they must not have enough staff yet. To have been handling as many orders as he was, I thought he handled everything pretty well, and I respect that. And, I have a hunch it might have to do with a certain somebody who recently visited the DC location. When I got up to check on my order, it was ready (YAY), and I was on my way. Unfortunately, when we got there we got the complete opposite. It's safe to say that their social media is very misleading. We got to sit ourselves down at whatever table we wanted but for it to not be so busy we waited almost 20 minutes for our waitress to come. When she finally did come and ask us for our drink she ended up bringing back two glasses of water that had pepper like particles floating in them. When I expressed my concerns she grabbed my cup and acted like she couldn't see it floating and then she ended up explaining that the water came from the nozzle thing that they have at the bar. I found myself convincing her that we needed new waters. Fast forward, now we're waiting on her to come back to bring the waters and take our order down which was another 15-20 minutes. She eventually came and took our order. I ordered the oxtail entree with rice and beans and cabbage along with an extra side of mac. My boyfriend ordered the Jerk and Mac Box. This time we didn't have to wait long at all which I thought was a plus but it wasn't. Our food was lukewarm and cold in some places and the ONLY thing that was piping hot was the mac and cheese. We've also had plenty of Rasta Bread before the Rasta bread they served us was one piece of regular toast cut in half. Compared to H St this was a total let down. H St is ALWAYS on POINT! With food quality, taste and everything and their line is always wrapped. There was no excuse for the wait, cold food, and poor customer service here at college park. It was only us two and another table of four at the restaurant. They open at 4, we got there a little after 5:30. You're not swamped with orders or customers so everything should have been top tier and it wasn't. The ambience has everything that you want including a private cabana, DJ tower and multiple TV's, please make sure to have the customers favorite games on throughout the season. This place has not reached the potential or momentum that is possible in this prime, college town, the sky is the limit with an aggressive marketing campaign and I repeat: seasonal awareness of sporting events, boxing matches etc... the older locals used to come to this spot under the previous brand faithfully to eat, drink, mingle and dance. Being that it is an Afro Jamaican restaurant, you already have the "secret sauce" and vibes to be successful but not sure if the hours are extended for partying on the weekends. Getting the right mixologists is key to a great night!! the restaurant hasn't gotten the staffing yet, as it is still gaining traction, however, just a few managerial ideas away from making things pop!
