I come here for my first dental care after 2 years without dental care (due to insurance changes). They did imaging & a meeting with the dentist first. Unfortunately, I had fractures in my two front teeth (from grinding my teeth at night, something I had been told by previous dentists, but never been told it could lead to teeth cracking, etc). They told me that I could just keep an eye on it, but that eventually I would need crowns on both. Since I have good insurance at the moment, I decided to just go ahead and get the crowns. I did not enjoy the experience of getting the crowns, but I got it done! I also got a mouth guard & started flossing and using mouth wash regularly after they told me I had mild gum disease. I ended up paying my whole deductible due to the procedure, with a bit extra because of the mouth guard. Then, however, I unexpectedly received a bill in the mail for the entire cost of the procedure! I definitely coudln't afford that, so I called them, and they said they would deal with it. I didn't hear back from them for a week or so, so then I called them again about it. They said that they saw a note had been made, but that it didn't seem like it had been addressed. This second person said that they would deal with it. I was pretty worried at this point, but I had a follow up appointment soon, so the next time I went in I asked them about it. They told me that their insurance department had reviewed it and corrected the mistake, and that I didn't owe anything. I was glad to hear that (though I wish that this had happened the first time I had called, and also that I had gotten a call back to let me know things had been taken care of). Ultimately, though, it all turned out okay! My crowns are doing well (and look pretty good, imo), and I've been using my mouth guard regularly to protect them. Overall, though I feel that they could have had some better communication around finances, I have had positive experiences there. I visited this office as my previous Dentist was very far and I wanted to visit an office a little bit closer. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and I didn't wait long before I was taken back for x-rays by another nice person who had a calm way about her. As someone who has some anxiety about visiting the Dentists I appreciated this. The Dentist was super nice and friendly and then I was off to the hygienist. All in all a good visit and a nice office. I really wanted to like this place. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Meriweather, and feel good about the level of care received. However, I had concerns about my billing. According to my insurance company, Sunrise Dental is in-network, and 100% of my care should have been covered. Sunrise Dental charged me the out-of-network rate (80% coverage, 20% co-payment), and when I asked about it, they told me that that is what their system reflected, and if it turned out that insurance covered the full amount, I would be refunded. When my insurance claim was fully processed, I brought the paperwork to the receptionist to show them that insurance had actually covered 100% of the costs. She insisted that Sunrise was no longer in-network, and that is why I had to pay 20%. I asked if she could explain why there was this discrepancy, and where the extra money went, since my insurance paperwork clearly showed that the insurance company had reimbursed Sunrise for 100% of the cost. I even asked if it was perhaps that the cost of the procedures listed was lower than it actually was (so that the total cost was in fact the "100%" covered by Sunrise plus the amount I paid, but she got impatient and simply repeated that they were no longer in-network and dismissed my questions. I don't know what happened and it's possible that she didn't either, but even if the receptionist wasn't intentionally trying to pull a fast one over me, the least she could have done is take my questions seriously and do a more thorough investigation. I didn't have the time or energy to continue the fight, and am fortunate enough that I could afford to abandon it, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, and I'll be taking my mouth elsewhere. read more

WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER!!! THEY ARE A SCAM!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM! THEY SEND YOU HIDDEN BILL AFTER PROCEDURE IS COMPLETED!!! I went to Sunrise Dental because my gums were bleeding. They completed an X-Ray and told me I needed deep cleaning. I asked them several times how much it would cost to deep clean my teeth after using my insurance. They assured me multiple times that I needed to pay $100 out front on that day for cleaning half of my gums and $45 the next time to clean the other half of my gums. However, after a couple of weeks, I got a letter in the mail saying I owe Sunrise Dental $117. I was SHOCKED because I paid the $100 on the day they cleaned half of my gums as we agreed upon but they never told me about the $117 bill that came later on. I HIGHLY REGRET MY DECISION TO GO HERE. So, I canceled my 2nd appointment to clean the other half of my gums because GOD knows how much they would have charged me more than the $45. Also, not only do they lie to you about the cost of procedures, they also do not care about the patients. They made me wait a long hour before starting my procedure. The lady who cleaned my gums also did not numb me well enough because she was in a hurry. I told her I could feel everything. She gave me another high dose of numbing medication but started poking me before the medication went into effect. So, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF SOME TIME AND PAIN AND DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY ARE A SCAM!!! THEY WILL CONFIDENTLY LIE TO YOU ABOUT HOW MUCH THE PROCEDURE COSTS, AND SEND YOU A BILL LATER. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! read more

Fantastic dentistry. Lackluster staff. It's impossible to make an appointment with these guys. They don't answer their phones. Apparently, their system is "You can leave as many messages as you want about the cavities you want removed, but we'll just ignore em'. We'll call you a few months later out of the blue to tell you to make an appointment for a tooth cleaning." [oh, yeah right, like the real mouth money is deep in the cleanings game] This happened to me today, when I received one of these very phone calls. The worst part of that phone call might have been the fact that I didn't even know who I was talking to or why for over half of the phone call! The woman on the line introduced herself in like half a second so that she could cut to the chase about me getting my tooth cleaning appointment scheduled. I told her that I would have made an appointment with them if they had returned my voicemails from a few months ago, but since I was only getting called because my name was in some database, I asked if my name could be removed from that database. Came in from out of town and my temporary bridge fell out. I don't have a dentist here but Dr. Stubbs came highly recommended. I was able to make a last minute appointment and the doctor and her assistant were able to fix my temporary bridge and make it look even better than before! They saved my wedding guest smile! 1. I made my initial appointment after discovering a growth on my tongue and expressed this to 3 different individuals through the appointment process and did not receive any guidance or information on this pressing (for me) issue... 2. I was stunned by what followed that I overlooked advocating and pressing the issue after discussion with Dr. Rogers 3. After reflecting and then following up on some past negative reviews found online I see that up selling and overcharging are two criticisms that have been leveled against Sunrise Dental in the past... and I feel like this was attempted in my situation on this most recent visit. Years ago I was diagnosed with somewhat severe gum disease and a deep cleaning was recommended. I consented and then went on hydrogen peroxide regiment that (along with the deep cleaning procedure) ended this bout of gum disease abruptly. My next visit showed remarkable progress and numbers that were greatly reduced. Dr. Rogers state that I had "mild gum disease" and with a couple of serious pockets in the back of my mouth. He recommended tooth extraction, laser cleaning necessitating 3-4 days of a liquid diet, and then (without explanation or rationale) invisalign procedure. After speaking to other practitioners who are associates and/or friends the consensus seemed to be that most protocols would follow the deep cleaning procedure first and then more aggressively pursue other procedures if the situation did not improve. And again, the Invisalign ? That clearly raises questions about recommending costly procedures without even explaining why. In fact it was inserted into the conversation almost as a "bonus" to the laser surgery. That bonus is quite costly and not even covered by my insurance... as you documented on my invoices. So, I think it is time for me to move on-- my family has been part of your practice since 2007. Again, this is disappointing but after sharing my recent experience with a colleague who is also with your office you may lose other patients as a result of my disappointing and documented experience. read more

Dental hygienist was trying to file away a filling the dentist down the hall just put in! 25% of my filling gone with just her filing of it. When I told her to stop when I realized what she was doing, 25% of the filling was gone. She apologized, but my filling was not redone. Then I was overcharged for my filling and the cleaning as the staff filed the wrong claim and would not change it, even after I had my insurance company speak with them directly. Poor dental service. Poor ancillary service. I will not be going to them again and recommend going elsewhere for better service and healthcare. By the way, take a look at the "not recommended" reviews. 10/12 are 1 or 2 stars. It's improper of yelp not to include them in the rating b/c this place would get 1 star overall. This is a review of the support staff. After already paying a significant copayment for the services, I received a bill due to their miscalculation of the copayment. When I inquired about why I had another bill, the woman I dealt with over the phone was dismissive, rude, and very unpleasant. She also seemed to just make up an answer for why I received another bill without looking into my file, and when she looked into my file and realized it was a different reason, she blamed me for the answer she gave and was curt about it. When I called back again about the issue, as directed by the office staff, I spoke with another woman who made up yet another reason for the bill. I then asked to use a coupon to cover the second bill that I actually had with me at the time of service but did not use since I was told that my insurance covered the cost. I was told that since I didn't present the coupon at the time of service, I couldn't use it, even though I had it and was told I didn't need to use it by the staff. This is just poor customer service. Beware trying to be an informed consumer when it comes to dealing with this office. The care I received was as good as anywhere else, but the rest of my interaction with this office should have been better. I will be taking my business to a dental office that has a more thoughtful, respectful staff. read more

Best Dentist Office around. Dr. Jones, my hygienist Tracy and all of the other staff I interacted with are great!! After not going to the Dentist for years I was very nervous. Everyone made me feel comfortable and took the time to explain my treatment plan and each step of the entire procedure. They even called to check on me first thing the next morning after my treatment. The VIP plan that the Office Offers is also a great way to save money on your treatment if you don't have insurance. I went from being nervous to excited about finally having a nice smile!! Sunrise Dental has a new patient for life. I must say the service I received from the time of booking my appointment to the end of my cleaning was great. They got me in for an appointment on super short notice and the hygenist, Janette, did the best cleaning I've ever had. Dr. Hansen was great. Super informative and not the last bit pushy which is why I will be going back for two more follow up appointments. I would definitely recommend Sunrise Dental. I go to the Franklin Street location, though I may have to switch this up since Sunrise recently opened a new venue that's in the Southpoint area where I live. This is one of those dentists that runs coupons in the ValPak Mailers. I've always thought this a bit questionable -- what kind of scary dentist, the type who has to offer buy-one-get-one-free extractions to attract penny-pinching customers, was I in store for? But you can relax -- Sunrise is just like every other dentist I've been to (and after two sets of braces, headgear, and every other orthodontic procedure imaginable, I've certainly seen my fair share of offices); aquariums with fishies, a lounge stocked with books and magazines, brightly painted murals in the cleaning rooms. The chairs here even have shiatsu massage, to really put you at ease. Ashamed to admit it, but -- in addition to regular check-ups -- I've also had a few fillings done here and it's always handled quickly and professionally (and is also a lot more pain-free than I remember them being at age 7!). read more

Issue after issue!! and not cheap ones either... and I agree with the people who say they feel like they are being sold lots of unnecessary services. Excellent dentist but crappy receptionist. I drove my wife to Sunrise Dental at Southpoint and back home I had to call her urgently. Called the reception and ask for my wife. The lady at the reception did not find my wife as a patient. I told her that my wife was at that precise moment with the dentist. Although I was very friendly I came apparently at a bad moment and she snapped at me "I have no patient by that name" I ended the conversation telling her that she could be more friendly with her customers. Not a fan. I went there because the coupon arrived right when I was needing a check up and cleaning. I felt like I was being sold unnecessary procedures the whole time, and had to say "no" who knows how many times to a special new kind of x-ray they had. What's more, they messed up the filing with my insurance, were rude about it on the phone, and I STILL haven't gotten that sorted out. I just had to call again today--the line was busy--after getting yet another incorrect bill. Find somewhere that doesn't have to resort to crappy coupons in the mail. read more

This is the best dentist I have ever been to. I was scared to go back to the dentist after a traumatic orthodontic/dental experience for a problematic tooth, but they took good care of me here. I was able to schedule an appointment on very short notice and they did not even require me to have a cleaning first. The staff's #1 concern is for your comfort, which I really appreciated, as I had a root canal done. It has been a few months since the procedure and I have no pain or problems with that tooth any more, which is a huge relief! read more

First and foremost, the staff and dentists at Sunrise are very friendly and knowledgeable. The reason the rating is so low is due to the incredible (unforeseen) out-of-pocket costs. Before I had any work done, I was given an estimate of what my costs would be. I asked what would happen in the case that insurance didn't pay for what was billed to them, and was assured that they would, and that my estimate was accurate. After my three visits (and paying over $800 out-of-pocket), I received a bill in the mail for another ~$300. I called the office to explain, and was told that my initial cleaning was not factored into my estimate, so the cost was on me to pay. Again, staff was friendly, but it was a very frustrating experience. Had I been informed and given accurate information from the beginning, it would have definitely changed which services I had done, and the timeline of when I got those services done. Very unhappy with the additional costs, and the lack of any action that I can take other than paying another $300, putting me at over $1,000 out-of-pocket over the course of a little over a month. read more

Excellent staff, convenient appointment scheduling and my dentist was great, very personable. I received phone calls to offer earlier appointments when they had cancellations, which I appreciated. I was seen right on time, they explained everything very well, I felt very comfortable, and they explained the insurance process clearly. I have never needed much dental work (regular cleanings and a couple of small fillings only) so I do not have experience with more complicated needs, but I feel confident returning to Sunrise Dental for my ongoing care. read more

Very disappointing first visit with this office. I am recently retired military and found Sunrise Dentistry on line. My dental plan covers two visits a year and x-rays. I went into the office and specifically requested a regular cleaning and was billed periodontal maintenance and now being charged a higher rate than my insurance allowed. I was not seen by a periodonal hygienist. This office is after money. They were more interested in having me come back to have a couple of fillings done and to have laser treatment. Got charged for service that I was told both before my appointment and the day of that was 100% covered and there would be NO CHARGE. Weeks later I received a bill for $120 from the office. When I called to ask why they told me that the service was covered but these were "office fees" that i most definitely was not told about. On top of that, on the day of my service I left the office crying due to an absolute horrible experience during my first ever filling. The dentist did not explain anything he was doing, numbed my entire face, and I couldn't talk or breath because they wouldn't suction my mouth. I will never go back. read more

I had many problems with Sunrise Dental.They were friendly but after deciding to change dentists that do deep sedation they told me I would not have to pay for canceling my appointment.They charged me anyway and the dentist never called me back to help me find another dentist that does deep sedation.I did find a good one on my own and brought a letter to Sunrise requesting my ex-ray's be transferred and they said they would Email them right away. Sunrise in Chapel Hill is the worst we have ever experienced. Living in the Triangle for over 30 years, I can honestly say that from the Doctor to the staff, service stinks. Yes, you can get a quick appointment even if you have never been there before. Just don't ask them for anything beyond that. Don't call them for help after the appointment and do not ask them for a refill of a med. You will not get a call back and when you call them, you are given a sarcastic quote from a dentist by the staff. If customer service and chair side manner by a dentist are important to you then by all means do not go to Sunrise in Chapel hill. Of course, Dentists in this area are a dime a dozen so finding another will not be a problem. Frankly, I do not understand how they stay in business. read more

WARNING: AVOID! Public Service Announcement: Dr. Chad Ceremuga told me I had a cavity, showing me a picture of a black stain on my tooth. He told me the good news: He could drill a hole in my tooth and fill it today! He had an opening! It would only cost me $150! I said thanks, I'm going to get a second opinion, because I've never had a cavity in my life. I went to my family dentist during a home visit a month later - he said I had no cavity, and the black spot was only a stain which he removed in 30 seconds, and that he was appalled that this other hack dentist wanted to drill into a perfectly good tooth! TERRIFYING. If I'd had less agency, I'd have allowed myself to be convinced that I had a cavity when I did not. This guy is clearly hungry to make money on filling non-existing cavities. I went from one bad dentist to another. On my very first visit I was told I would see Dr. Roberts. When I got there Dr. Roberts was not there so Dr. Vice filled in for him. The second visit was HORRIBLE. I was supposed to see Dr. Vice. I was told she left because she did not have any patients that afternoon. Ummm, hello, I am sitting in chair. Was I not a patient? So I saw Dr. Roberts. I already had an uneasy feeling about it all. And then the cleaning began. It was the cleaning from hell. And you certainly do not want to say anything when someone has sharp objects in your mouth. I left there knowing I would step foot in that place again. Then I received a bill that told me I owed more money than I had been quoted. I called and they "took care if it". There is a complete lack of professionalism in that office. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice - I'm taking my business elsewhere. Honesty is the only way to establish a RESPECTFUL relation between clients and service providers. That is not the case with Sunrise Dentistry. The doctors and hygienists are great. The management and billing department are unprofessional and, not to say it too harsh, are cheating on billing and coding to get money out of patients one way or another. Reading other people comments I come to the conclusion it is the case with Sunrise dental. They send me a bill for X-rays, and when confronted that insurance actually covers it, sent me an new, BLANK bill, with no date or explanation of service. This is the level of "care" you will be dealing with. When I asked to explain, they told me to deal with my insurance. The insurance verified and stated that X-ray's service was, indeed, covered, but the provider was billing for other service. When I called Sunrise to clarify that, the billing dept said they performed "a procedure", which is a simple lie! They simply did not do anything similar to what that were trying to describe. They tried to state "but you needed it". That is not at any rate the way to handle the issue - if I really needed it, they should had told me that upfront and ACTUALLY PERFORM it, not bill me later for unperformed procedure. Worse, to tell me that's the way it works! But would it be the first time, I'd try harder to resolve it and stay with the provider, because of the doctors. This was the second time I received an unexpected bill! The first was a visit for whitening. I paid in full at the time of the visit, and got a bill later with explanation "we checked how the previous cleaning worked". Even if they did - 5 minutes of looking at my teeth and billing about $70 for that, makes the hygienist rate a sweet $840/ hour. Bet, they don't pay her this money! Do I need to mention that the whitening solution they sold me at that time did not work at all, and when I asked why, they responded "we should have given you a different one"? A good practice would not charge for their own mistake and simply give you a proper solution. They made me pay for the proper product. People, don't go there. Good clinics don't send flier trying to attract customers. Good practices would respond to our comments. Yet, I have not seen a single response here of how they handle their issues. Not a word from their end!! read more
