Everyone in the office is extremely nice , just moved here from Atlanta and was super impressed by all of the staff .

She told me my 2 upper wisdom teeth had cavities and needed filled. I was not having any trouble with them but I trusted her. Immediately after getting them fixed they both got infected one after the other and I had to go to oral surgeon and get them pulled.. she should of recommended me getting them pulled in the first place as was cheaper. She still billed me for over 1000$ after insurance and would not consider adjusting at all. read more

Dr. Bishop's office will wow you with its posh office decor, admittedly good service by professional (if a little too charming) staff, and smiley-friendly email reminders...but be aware that they have to pay for these niceties *somehow*. Their office's base charges are much higher than other local dentists, for even standard procedures such as cleaning. This means that you will have to pay more because the difference between what your dental insurance company says the base price ought to be and what they charge is greater. They are "perfectionist" dentists and are into preventative dentistry, which means they will try to treat things that don't need to be treated. In my case this was three unnecessary fillings. Two friends of mine had the same experience at Dr. Bishop's office (and both changed dentists, as I did). Dr. Bishop's office uses procedures that may not be covered by your insurance, and they will not make any mention of this fact, but just dive in and do it. In my case, they used a laser to "detect cavities that may be forming." It cost me $65 for them to wave a laser over my teeth for 90 seconds, and find three "problem areas" that they said I should treat now (see above: unnecessary fillings). If cost is no option, this is your dentist. If you don't appreciate non-disclosure of costs and would like to avoid spending time and money on unnecessary treatments, look elsewhere. read more

Dr. Bishop and her staff are great - I try to recommend them to everyone looking for a dentist in the Chapel Hill/Durham area. I really feel they're the epitome of what a dentist should be. I've never waited any longer than 5 minutes in the waiting room at Dr. Bishop's (if at all). The hygienists and staff are always friendly, and their top priority is ensuring you're comfortable during cleanings and any dental work. It's the little things, but I'm always assigned the same hygienist and she remembers bits and pieces of things we've spoken about in the past - a nice touch. Dr. Bishop and her dad, Dr. Steve are both friendly, very professional and do an excellent job. Highly recommended. Dr. Bishop and her staff really take any worry out of dentist visits. read more

I am so thrilled to be able to write the first review for Dr. Bishop! I have had 30 years of wearing various crowns, bondings and fillings on my two front teeth as a result of a bicycle accident when I was 10. I've never had a smile that I was happy with all of these years but I put it on the back burner as life went on. Finally, since turning 40, I wanted to freshen up my look without anything drastic done. I wanted to feel like smiling and not wonder if my discolored teeth were a distraction. Or at least not feel self conscious about them anymore having grown up with comments about my mismatched teeth and not to mention watermelon seed spitting gap. I did some research on dentists in the area, looking at credentials, skills and would they file with my insurance at least on my behalf and allow me a free consultation without taking xrays. Dr. Bishop's office met all of those requirements and looking at her work and her teeth (which are gorgeous, btw) and then discussing with her what my goals were I felt comfortable with proceeding. We decided on replacing the crowns as well as doing a take home whitening tray system. I have to say, it is so worth the money and works much, much better than the OTC products. Dr. Bishop has a good aesthetic and eye for what looks good on a patient. I knew I would get a good result and could trust her guidance. I got the temporaries on and then used a wonderful lab called Absolute Dental Services in Durham to find the best color, shape, length etc. They were very professional and spent plenty of time making sure we captured the right look. I felt like the whole team really cared even more than I did about getting it just right. I just wanted to not have yellow teeth anymore. :) So, it felt great to have everyone invested and excited for me to finally feel good about my teeth. Well, I just got the permanent crowns on today and can I just say that I can't stop smiling and making a point of walking by a mirror and checking them out. It amazes me how much of a difference it has made. Makes me wish I had done it sooner. It really does brighten up your face and makes you want to smile which can only do good things for your appearance if you look happy!! I would recommend her absolutely and if you are like me wondering if it is worth it, IT IS. read more

I have been a patient here for several years and it is time to find someone new. While Dr. Bishop is a good dentist, her office staff is abysmal!!! When I decided to start coming here I specifically asked if they could submit to my insurance ahead of time and their response was of course! Yet EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I come in I am told I have to pay full price and wait for my insurance company to cut me the check. Their prices are probably double than any other local dentist. I had an appointment set that I had been waiting almost 2 months for to finish filling the last two cavities I have and start on a crown. When I made my appointment in April, I again asked that it be submitted ahead of time. I had not heard from my insurance or the office so I decided to call them and check myself. The office said they had submitted but didn't have a response so they would call and find out. When the office called me back they claim the insurance company did not receive the pre certification request, so surprise surprise I would have to pay all costs up front!!!! I then went on to explain how frustrating this all is and stated that after the work I had scheduled was completed I was going to look for a new dentist. I was then informed they had no intentions of completing all the work I had scheduled because they felt it was too much..... I did not want to delay my fillings any further as this would be the second time the office choose not to do the fillings and I did not want to end up with a 3rd root canal! So we came to an agreement that I would pay half today and they would bill me for the rest. Then 20 mins before I would have needed to leave for my appointment I got another call from the office to tell me that they were cancelling my appointments and that I should go ahead and find someone else to do the work!!!! Completely unprofessional and incredibly rude, not worth any of the headache to have to deal with these completely incompetent people. read more

The only reason I'm even writing this review is in regards to the financial aspect of this dental facility. Staff are very professional, thorough, knowledgeable and friendly. Office is very nice and very easy to find. However, for both my husband's visit (both cleanings, which are covered. But we both scheduled appointments for fillings) and my own, the staff conveniently forgot to mention the policy requiring payment in full after procedures. After three fillings and with a completely numb mouth I told the receptionist I had dental insurance. She said I had to come up with the money on the spot and my insurance would reimburse me at a later date. This seems to be the complete opposite practice of every other dentist I've been to. Probably a very fiscally sound practice for this dentist however. We will see if everything they did was covered whenever I happen to receive my reimbursement. Time to find a new dentist. We have been going here several years with not the best care. They had to re-do multiple cavities that were not filled correctly. Their prices for even basic care have also gotten out of hand. Finally, the receptionist/billing person is stunningly condescending and disrespectful. She demonstrates a complete lack of interest and unwillingness to hear any concerns you might have. Even trying to schedule an appointment with her is a chore. In theory, we could tolerate the high prices and mediocre dental care, but I would rather have a root canal without lidocaine than have to converse with the front desk person ever again. read more

I've taken the time to read the reviews as I was surprised to see Jessica didn't have straight 5 stars. If you're accustomed to treating your teeth by the most reputable and finest around the cost will not be a surprise. While perhaps they don't list every cost prior to a procedure, they certainly will if you tell them of your concern. Quality dental care is hard to come by, the best in staff even more difficult, and thus this discerning customer appreciates and commends the practice Jessica has developed over the years. Five stars are not enough to express my happiness with Dr. Bishop and everyone in her office. Not only have they worked hard to give me the smile I want - amazing! - but all of them have been kind and conscientious through the entire process. They make sure that I am comfortable before, during, and after each visit, and have never hesitated to help with a concern or question. If you're in Durham or Chapel Hill, I think Dr. Bishop's office is THE place to go for the best dental care in the entire area, whether cosmetic/aesthetic, general, or any other service. I dropped Dr. B years ago and my husband did recently since he was told he had to have a 3 HOUR visit in the chair for teeth cleaning!! Imagine. Years ago she drilled a perfectly good tooth on me and gave me a temporary appliance which caused me embarrassment while attending a dinner party. I showed the temporary to another dentist who was appalled at the amateurish work. Will only offer you expensive options and tries to steer you to her female colleagues for oral surgery. The hygienists are great but if you need more than a cleaning, find another dentist! If you have had a good experience, consider yourself very lucky! read more

Poor quality dentist who presents herself as expensive and worth it. Aggressive and phony staff as well. After doing expensive work for me that failed she would not repair the work. She wouldn't take responsibility and did not even consider seeing the work to make a determination without further charges. I had to find a new dentist to fix the problem. The tooth had to have a root canal. Faulty crown decayed and the tooth broke off at the root line within a year. Every procedure is turned into an expensive problem. they wanted the payment on the day of the procedure and filed insurance, then sent me the insurance check addressed to the dentist. read more
