Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with Meadowmont Dentistry. Similar to other reviews on here that you'll see, (that are not 5 stars and are all the way at the bottom because of how they filter the reviews), I also felt blindsided by their nice gestures upon arriving vs when I received my bill. Not once was I told I was not in network or that I would have a $300+ bill for A CLEANING. I had zero work done but a cleaning and had a $300+ bill. I have a PPO insurance plan, but because they failed to tell me when I arrived that I was not in network, I did not have the chance to leave prior to my services. The manager explained to me that nobody is in network for them, but if that was the case, they still should have told me that. Instead, they said it was my responsibility to know. In the industry of customer service, a dental office should be putting their patients first and want them to feel as comfortable as possible with their care plan, and that was simply not the case at Meadowmont Dentistry. One should feel comfortable that their Doctor is doing the best for them, but clearly all they see is money and not retention. Their manager also has used words like "threatened" toward me and I am not sure in any medical office where that is considered acceptable behavior. Moral of the story, if you visit them, ensure they don't start work on you before knowing if you are in network or not, we now have paid the $300+ charge. read more

One of my crowns fell out recently, and after calling a few places in the area Meadowmont Dentistry had time to see me. I'm so glad they build in time for emergency patients! They were super nice and accommodating to my schedule, I was able to go in first thing in the morning. The dentist was really nice and they got me in and out in less than an hour! They even let me come back a day later once I had a feel for the bite, and they made a quick adjustment. Highly recommend this place for your dental needs. read more

Do not use their service. My daughter called them and told them she had a toothache and it needed to be filled. She had already had 2 other dentist look at it including UNC. They took an xray, said it needed a root canal without even looking in her mouth, BUT they where happy to charge her $151 and refer her to an Endodontics and give her a quote for $1,809 for doing the crown and core build up. All I can say is be aware they seem more interested in money than helping. read more

Tried to call today to book an appointment. The voice answering talks about closures in anticipation of the hurricane then promptly hangs up. The only other way to contact them is on the website form where I can enter name, phone and email address. Thats it! No space for a message? How do I make an appointment? Google says they close at 5pm however their website says 4pm. Good thing I checked with the website and didn't start driving down because it seems I have to go there personally to make an appointment. Very disappointed in this practice after being a patient here since 2015. We are an active duty military family and I made appointments for both myself and my children as I always have done for our routine visits. In the past I had always had two insurances (MetLife and United Concordia) but clearly told them when making the appointment I no longer had the MetLife but just the United Concordia. (I also informed the office of this change at the visit.) I was NEVER informed they did not take the military insurance. Normally everything is covered by my insurance so I usually don't get billed. Apparently they only take Alliance Elite Plus and not United Concordia but did not inform me of that when I updated my insurance. I never even received a bill but was hit suddenly with a message I had an unpaid bill of over $300 that was going to collections. When I called, I was then told I had an outstanding bill because my insurance didnt cover the routine visits. Needless to say, I have to switch to a new provider after 7 years coming here. In addition, I have a huge bill to pay. I should have been told when changing my insurance info BEFORE the visit it would not be covered. Sad that this practice does not take the basic insurance for military families. Just be sure to find out up front if they take your insurance so at least you will be given the option to go elsewhere where you will not be surprised with a huge bill. Glad I found this out before we all came for our next appointments. I only discovered this by receiving a notice my bill was going to collections. Nobody told me. I went to this practice this week and I absolutely loved it. From the time I stepped into the door I felt comfortable. The dental assistant was very, very good. Explained every little thing to me. Was very patient. The doctor was the exact same way. They work with you money wise (and not just offering you a credit card. They truly work with you). I went for a simple cleaning and it was so detailed that I feel like they truly catered to my every dental need and helped me understand what is going on with my overall mouth health AND sleep apnea. The actual office is very nice as well. Chairs are well separated. Pretty view. No curtains, actual separation with furniture. They offer plenty of options and their staff is very well versed. I can't recommend them enough! I plan to continue to use them for my dental needs. read more

I had a lot of damage to my teeth from radiation I received for cancer. Dr. Black did an amazing job making a bridge that restored my appearance, smile, and ability to eat almost anything. Also I learned that he is a deeply religious man with a strong faith in the Lord. read more

I like the dentist here but was so frustrated that they charge $75 if you don't cancel 48 hours ahead of time. Most people, even doctors, have a 24 hour policy. Perhaps this was mentioned in the paperwork but not highlighted in any way. read more

This is the greatest place to go to the dentist. Dr. Wilson is our dentist and he is so kind and thorough yet always humorous and fun to be around! All the staff and support folks are the best. There is never any turn over which tells us how happy everyone is to be working there. The whole office is efficient yet totally relaxed. This place is simply exceptional. Despite moving 4 hours away, I still came back to have my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Winokur. Bedside manner is some of the best I've experienced, and he makes you feel like you are THE person he wanted to see that day. The staff is friendly and efficient, upfront about costs, and open about all of your options. Could not recommend this place more highly. While Dr. Wilson and the hygienists are excellent, this practice is the worst when it comes to timely and accurately filing insurance claims. My wife went to Dr. Wilson to get a mandibular device for her sleep apnea and as this is a medical claim it required prior approval. The treatment coordinator failed to obtain the prior approval, even after the insurance company told her it was necessary. After Meadowmont submitted the claim multiple times - each time being denied - we are now on the hook to pay the entire cost because we signed a letter of financial responsibility back in 2016. While we have appealed the decision by the insurance company, the entire process has been messy and unnecessarily complicated. Because of the incompetence of their staff, we are going to have to start looking for a new dentist and spend countless hours with the insurance company that Meadowmont should have handled competently back in April. read more

The staff here is great, and I appreciate how they always try to schedule you with the same hygienist, so there is some familiarity at each appointment (difficult to establish when you're going in every 6 months or so). Dr. Wilson is calm and friendly and seems to be genuinely interested when he talks to you. The front-desk staff has always been helpful and proactive with filing insurance claims, and I've found that's hard to come by with most medical offices. I cannot recommend this practice. While clean and trendy looking, they overcharge and push to do unnecessary procedures. After being given an estimate of $1,700 for 3 visits worth of work (me and 2 kids), I had paid about that amount after the third visit, yet got a bill for another $1,700. When I called to ask the difference and what happened to change the estimate I got the runaround. No one could/would tell me why there was a change. A BIG one! After demanding someone look over it, I was told they found another $100 they were supposed to charge me but didn't. So now I owed $1,800. My insurance agent worked with me to try and figure it out and even she couldn't get anywhere with them. I had the estimates and they refused to acknowledge them or honor anything they said. In the meantime it became cleaning time again. Even with good dental insurance, just getting cleanings for 3 family members (repeating over and over- just what insurance covers- as they try to upsell at every turn) it cost a little over $300 out of pocket. I have never gone anywhere that cost more than my extraordinary insurance would cover- again, no explanation of the charges could be offered. It should only cost that without insurance! Do NOT go here unless you like getting ripped off. read more

I moved to NC from out of state and came here at the recommendation of a coworker. She referred me here with the caveat of: "the office is really nice but they will try to upsell you on everything. But they are still very good." I would say that her assessment/warning was quite accurate. The office itself is very state-of-the-art. They have all the newest gadgets and X-ray machines. For example, you fill out your medical history questionnaire on an ipad, and a very extensive set of X-rays are taken all while sitting comfortably in your reclining dental exam chair. They have all the bells and whistles, that's for sure. Now on to the downside: they are quite aggressive and will say that they practice "preventative dentistry". They will recommend that you get fillings because the diagnodent is giving off a reading of anything greater than a 10. If you don't know what a diagnodent is, google it and see. It can definitely be a useful tool in catching cavities early on, but it can also give off false readings especially if you've had previous work done. Not to mention that just because a 'spot' registers as a 15 now, doesn't mean that it can't be carefully watched to see if it progresses (which it may never do for months or years). Perhaps if you are a person that only sees the dentist once every 10 years, then maybe being overly cautious/aggressive/"preventative" is good because you won't have close follow up otherwise. However, they recommended interventions that would have cost me $500 worth of out of pocket expenses without any explanation aside from "you really need all this work done now. Talk to the front desk about pricing and scheduling". There was no discussion about risks/benefits or alternatives to getting this work done. I was also told that to prevent problems in the future, that I should get extra fluoride treatments that, surprise, unfortunately aren't covered by insurance either... I told them that my last dental appointment was less than a year ago, and I was told then that everything looked fine, so I was very surprised. Their response: "Oh sorry. Its always hard giving people bad news". I went to another dentist who was also highly rated on Yelp. I brought my X-rays as well as my treatment plan that Meadowmont dentistry had given me. His assessment? None of this work is necessary now. And yes, he used a diagnodent as well. Yes there are spots to keep an eye on. We can watch how things go over the next 6-12 months. Especially in people with "Virgin" teeth, it's good to be cautious as fillings are not without complications. Thank you! Perhaps I am just a more conservative person who would prefer a watchful waiting approach versus a more aggressive one. However, the entire impression I was left with of Meadowmont was a bit off-putting. It is a lovely office, but I'll be going somewhere else for my dental care from now on. read more

I'm living in the area for professional school, and grew tired of trying to coordinate dental visits during my few yearly visits home. I decided to try something new, and Chapel Hill Dentistry fit the bill - it was close to my apartment, accepted my insurance, and they were taking new patients. The experience? Fantastic. I should have switched earlier. Several things set them apart: Attentiveness - (1) All of the new patient paperwork was sent to me in the mail prior to the appointment, which made my initial visit very fluid. (2) I had about an hour's worth of work done, and subsequently developed significant jaw pain that persisted for nearly a week. Rather than dismissing my concerns and crediting it to inflammation from the procedure, Dr. Wilson had me return to the clinic for a follow up to assess in person. I was seen on short notice, did not have to wait, nor was I charged for this additional visit. He told to stop by again should the issue continue. (3) Dr. Wilson and my dental hygienist were very skilled and gentle with respect to the cleanings/procedures. I was comfortable throughout and they repeatedly assessed how I was doing. (4) They pre-filed with my insurance company so that I was aware of my coverage in actual dollar amounts. The insurance company became finicky after my visit, and tried to change the amount that they would cover. The staff at Meadowmont Dentistry followed up with the company (as opposed to leaving me with a huge bill) to ensure that I didn't have to pay more than I should. During this process (over 1 month), they sent me periodic email updates and assured me that the coverage would be what was prespecified, which it was. Professionalism - From the moment that I entered the office, I was impressed by everyone's high degree of professionalism - from the receptionist to the dentist. I was confident that they were a competent group of individuals and they appeared to pride themselves on exceptional service. The professionalism is echoed on their website, which provides information for new patients, FAQs, the services they offer, and information about their team. Friendliness - Incredibly friendly and personal group of people, whether it's face to face, on the phone, or via email. The only issue that I had was locating the office. Meadowmont Dentistry is located in Meadowmont Village (near Brixx and Five Guys) but doesn't have a storefront. You have to find the entrance to the offices and travel to the second floor - certainly not a drawback, but something to keep in mind when searching for the clinic. I stumbled upon Meadowmont Dentistry when I moved back to the area, and I'm so glad I did. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful from the minute I walked through the door. I didn't have more than a ten minute wait before they brought me back for my cleaning, even including filling out my medical history. My hygienist, Nikki, was not only fun and personable, but did a thorough, patient job in explaining the different aspects of the cleaning throughout the process, as well as answering my questions. The dentist was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, and I felt immediately at ease with him during the procedure. Even in the checkout process, the staff were kind and helpful. I am so happy to have found this office and cannot recommend them enough. read more

I absolutely loved my experience at meadowmont! My hygienist amber was very friendly, helpful, and thorough. Dr. Wilson took the time to explain my treatment to me and answered all my questions. Rip Off! Over charges - even with insurance and declining EVERYTHING they try to sell you and stating "I only want was is covered by insurance" it costs $43 to have your teeth cleaned- just cleaned. I paid $73 for a teeth cleaning without insurance down the street. This place overcharges after they tell you they have checked your insurance and it will all be covered. read more

Beware! This dentist is great if you have cash falling out of your ears or a platinum dental plan. My wife got her dental work done here and asked every nurse and dentist that she saw to verify all procedures with her insurance company to ensure coverage. They repeated over and over that they had checked and that all of the procedures they were doing would be covered. Two weeks later we find out that not only is that not true, but that this place has a reputation for doing this! Stay away. Even if you can afford it all, I wouldn't recommend giving any business to such a shady and deceitful practice. read more

I have been to see Dr. Winokur at Meadowmont Dentistry in Chapel Hill several times now and he is by far the most knowledgeable, kind, and efficient dentist I have ever encountered. My husband, who has awful teeth has also been there and is equally impressed with the comprehensive care and his expertise. I would like to say more, but my last review was blocked as 'possibly fake' because I expressed how happy I was too exuberantly! It's true this facility is state of the art, but I also felt like I was in a hair salon, or a hospital observation unit - mostly it felt like an assembly line. The chairs are lined up with only curtains to separate them so I could overhear the conversations of other patients, including my OB who happened to be there for a cleaning at the same time. I was reluctant to answer the medical history questions because I knew how easily I overheard everyone else's conversations. The hygienists were nice but it felt impersonal with no privacy. I was pregnant at the time, and was told I had a small cavity (maybe - they couldn't say for sure) however they couldn't x-ray so wanted me to return for full x-ray's and a filling after I gave birth. I couldn't put my finger on why I felt so uneasy there until I read another reviewer's comments about being upsold on procedures. I always trust my gut and won't go back, despite the personalized welcome mug they mailed me and repeated phone calls begging me to return. Looking forward to a second opinion. read more

Went there with an open mind. Got a dental cleaning. Then after over one hour. The dentist came in. I told him I was feeling anxious and wanted to leave. I felt ignored as dr Corey rambled on about how much dental work I needed I was almost having an anxiety attack but he kept up selling me. I got confused. I was sent to the "business " office. Where the woman there was willing to make an appointed if we gave them $200. In ADVANCE! Please avoid these prices. I felt like I was dealt with by a shyster. The former dentist that was well loved. Dr Black? is not really the dentist I got. In fact the dentist that was so admired might have retired so now. I am getting bullied by some new dentist. While my husband was in waiting room he heard two phones call. One was a cancellation with no new appointment the second call was asking for their records to be transferred. I honestly believe the office may either be up selling on purpose or not aware that patients do not like being up sold. read more

This place used to be good, but they have had a lot of turnover and it seems to me that the good dentists and technicians have left, including Jerre Kennedy (the subject of other posts). Last time I went to meadowmont I got the feeling that the technician was a rip off artist who was mainly concerned with getting me to spend more money. Meadowmont Dentistry is in network with my insurance but they overcharge on each visit. They overcharged on the cleaning by $37. I told them that I am 100% covered on my cleanings, but they still sent me a bill for $37. I called them and told them they were wrong. They said OK. But when I went back to get fillings, Dr. Wilson gave me a painful shot that gave me an extreme tooth ache that night. I was overcharged and had to pay immediately. I had to wait over a month to get a refund of my over payment. On my 3d visit, they overcharged me again and I protested and they insisted that I owed more than I did. It took almost 2 months to get my money back. They have to make a monthly refund to many patients because they overcharge regularly. Unless you complain, they probably keep the money. They are dishonest and don't really do good work. This new dentist who took over for Dr. Black is not trustworthy. Check your bill carefully. I will never go back. read more

I am from out of state and lost a filling in my front tooth. My first visit to Meadowmont Dentistry was by choice to have a cap as restorative work instead of a refilling. Since the cap was in top front it was imperative that the color was right. Both Dr. Wilson and I felt the color was just slightly off. Came for second appointment when the cap had been retouched and was surprised that the person who made the cap was there to make any corrections. He touched up a little bit more. When I was back home I went to my periodontist for a cleaning and asked her to guess which tooth was my new cap. It was such a good match that in the end I had to show her. I later needed more work done and instead of getting it done at my dentist, I waited until I returned to North Carolina. I joked that I would have to make a trip to North Carolina each year just to have any further work done. All employees were efficient, courteous, and always professional. Can't say enough. read more
