When one is looking for a good breakfast at a good price look no further then Sunrise! The staff are always very friendly and the breakfast is consistently delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to see they are now offering more upscale specials, but it's the two egg breakfast special that keeps me coming back. The place is light and open, and the conversation that happens at tables can only be described as unique to Howell with the amount of "regulars" that frequent Sunrise. I suspect most towns have a "down home" restaurant like Sunrise and it's always been a good dining experience. read more

Food is EXCELLENT! Staff is wonderful & it gives you that small town diner feel as soon as you step in the door.

Breakfast here is downright good stuff! Came in for breakfast around 1030 on Sunday and had to wait in line a short period of time (but not long). Was promptly seated when a table came up - staff server was great. I did a standard farmer's omelet breakfast with white toast and hashbrowns w/ grilled onions on them. Extremely good food and a lot to accomplish if you wish to eat it all. This is one of the better breakfast spots in Howell, so if you get a chance, give them a try or simply return. read more

Went back for a second time ever because we had a good experience the first time. Last mistake I'll make going again. wasn't busy for once sat right down lady gave us are drinks and was told waitress would be right there almost 20 minutes goes by being to old to hold on to order three times to never serve us but every one else. Place is a joke staff sucks. Makes sense why we have only been there twice in the six years of living here. I waited a week to respond, I was so taken back by only be served an orange juice and never had waitress come back to our table to take our order, yet serving everyone around us. So eating breakfast out for the first time since the pandemic hit and this place was quite disgusting! My daughter was getting a jelly packet out of the holder and an earwig fell out and crawled across the table. After capturing it in the napkin, Shelly did take it back to the kitchen I guess. That should have been the end of our visit but after they bleached the table, booth seats and new silverware ...we were charged full price. Unreal! read more

There are much better diners nearby. The staff complained about being over worked. The food was not very good and they made a major mistake on my burger. Left the chilli off the chilli cheeseburger. We went for breakfast with family Memorial Day weekend. Everyone was very happy with our meals. The cinnamon rolls were big and fluffy. The eggs Benedict were made perfectly with great poached eggs. The corned beef has was so filling, and the breakfast burrito was big enough to share. Great staff service as well. read more

This is a popular spot! We waited a while to sit, and then get served, but the food quality was spot on, even on a busy Sunday am. Get a large breakfast for under $5. The whole meal was affordable and well-prepared. Coffee was plenty strong. Ham slices substantial. Omelette delicious, and had a good egg/cheese/meat ratio. Bacon just how I love it. Hash browns tasted like fresh potatoes. Raisin toast:yum. Fresh tomatoes are a nice option to have in a generally carb-saturated meal. Only exception were the overcooked scrambled eggs. Server was hopping, so we didn't get extra napkins. Decor is a little shabby (cracked glass on front door, carpets could use some attention, style not particularly current or fresh, infomercial on tv). The shades were pulled so far it was actually a little on the dark side in there. Maybe that is to not hurt the eyes of some patrons who looked like they might have had a late night the evening before. Some of the clientele was a little rough around the edges, but the staff was welcoming. Would give 4.5 stars if I could, but I'll bump it to 5. read more

LGBTQ+ Diners BEWARE!!! My fiance and I have been to this diner several times, never having an issue. On Wednesday, May 25th, we entered at about 9:30 for a late breakfast. There were maybe 5 tables occupied so they were quite dead. After getting our seat and ordering drinks, we waited for 20 minutes with the staff continuously ignoring us, even going so far as to walk completely around the restaurant to avoiding passing our table. What made this morning different is that I was wearing an LGBTQ+ pride shirt on. I can only surmise that we were being avoided because of us being gay. And before it is said "well maybe they were busy," no, that is not the case. In fact, one waitress was chatting for about 10 minutes with a table, another waiter was just making silverware packets for the entire 20 minutes, and the other waitress, as previously stated went out of her way to avoid the table. The owner even came out and was talking with the table next to us for a long period of time, all the while we are sitting there with empty drink glasses and no food order taken. Not even a "do you need a few minutes?" inquiry. We will NEVER grace this establishment's entrance again. If you can't even bother to serve someone due to bigotry, don't be open. read more

We walked in and they had 3 open tables we could see, plus one that was behind a divider wall. We waiting a long time to be seated just standing there watching people scurry around and not say a word to us. Finally, the woman who must have been the hostess stepped out from the back and seated us. Once we were seated the hostess took our coffee order and it was served quickly. We ended up moving tables because we were sitting under a fan and it was chilly. Once re-seated, we waited for our order to be taken. And waited. I saw a waitress give the table across the aisle from us their bill. She placed it on the table and watched it fall to the ground. She then left it there and walked off to take an order at the table behind us. Another waitress walked by and stopped to look at it on the ground so but her hands were full so she couldn't actually pick it up. Meanwhile, the woman who I found out was our waitress was the same one that watched the bill fall to the ground and left it there. She finished with the order behind us and said she would be right back to take our order. She never came back and we ended up leaving. Upon leaving, I figured out that this place actually had 2 Yelp entries and the second one isn't great. read more

This is your basic family diner. The servers try hard but lack real experience in the field. The cooks don't care how you ask for your food to ordered they will cook it as they please. I personally will never entertain the thought of eating here again. This place is best suited for people who want a high calorie, low flavor meal. You would be better off eating at a Coney island. The typical wait on a Sunday is over an hour from the time you enter till you receive your food. I also over heard other guest complain about their food being cold or under/over cooked. If they don't completely revamp their business they will be closed soon enough. Hope this helps anyone who has doubts. read more

We had high hopes when we saw the word "diner." My husband is from Long Island originally, and I am from Macomb County myself, so we both have an appreciation for greasy spoon type places that serve comfort food at a decent price. I can say, the prices here are not terrible. But we were unimpressed on the whole. Our food took 31 minutes to arrive, in a dining room that was at perhaps 25%-30% capacity with at least 2 waitresses on duty. Our waitress seemed annoyed at our presence, and was rather impatient with us as we placed our order. While we waited for our food (Kid's fish n-chips, fish sandwich, ranch-style omelette), we noticed that the place might be more appropriately called the Sunset Family Diner, based upon the majority clientele, who were painfully unamused with having a 4-year old present in "their" joint. We insure that our child is well-behaved, so that was not the issue. It was especially ironic that the two couples in the booth behind us were so annoyed, considering that at least one amongst them share the same obsession as our son with audibly ripping ass in the booth. Although their order was placed at the same time as ours, theirs arrived in half the time, while they regaled the entire diner with tales of their individual hip replacements, and the advantages of blaming flatulence on said surgeries. Charming. Only half of our food arrived at first, and because we had never been provided with flatware or napkins, nobody could start eating. Once the omelette arrived, it was cold, along with the rest of our food. I had to ask for flatware for us all and for mayo on my sandwich. The waitress became patronizingly more pleasant, but I believe it was simply because she realized if she didn't at least try to fake it, there might not be a tip waiting for her at the end. The food was sub-par. It was cheap enough, but I'd rather have eaten fast food, and that's saying something. My husband still felt compelled to leave a 20% tip, despite the lackluster service and food of questionable origin. Did they bus it in from another diner down the road? So in conclusion, are you a senior citizen with an uncontrollable gas problem, aversion to the sight of young children, and very little in the way of functioning taste buds? You'll love this place! This is an heir apparent to Bill Knapp's. Otherwise, skip it. read more

They used to be good, but it's become consistently worse each time i've visited. I don't care about how long it takes to be seated, and served, but it takes a while if that's something you care about. The issue is that the chef never cooks it as you ask, they cook eggs how they want to (always runny, with a slightly runny white). Their potatoes taste watered down, I don't know how that is even accomplished, but it has a very bad flavor (perhaps under cooked). Other times they're dry and completely burned. read more
