I had a very good experience bringing my car to this shop. It's a family own shop ran by a father and son duo. They were very knowledgeable and experienced with cars and diagnosed the problem right away. It's hard to find a trust worthy mechanic that does quality work and wouldn't rip you off. While I was waiting, they were tentative and gave constantly update on wait time. (There were also cool model planes to look at while waiting lol). I just took in my 2014 Corolla and my 2004 Sequoia in for Smog. It was probably one of the best experiences I've had at any shop. He's very willing to listen to any questions you may have. He answered all of my questions and even walked me through one of the issues my car may have in the future if not taken care of. I called the shop to see if they were open but no one was available to pick up. The internet shows the shop opens at 10 am but when I got there at 10:50am they were not open. There was a sign on the front door that said will return at 11am. My toddler and I were waiting in the car until 11:25am and still no one showed up. I ended up leaving to go elsewhere. Called ahead to see if they were busy and how much a smog check would cost on my 2011 honda civic. He said "cash $50" sounded good to me! I came in and waited maybe 60 seconds before he came in to greet me but I didn't mind. He's the one working on cars and acting as the receptionist so you gotta give him a moment and respect the hustle. He had to finish up working on a car before he could get line in and it still only took 10-15 minutes, super fast! Stayed true to the $50 and didn't try to sell me anything else. He kindly let me know that the rattling noise my engine making is caused by the belt rattling when the AC kicks on which makes total sense and he didn't try to convince me to let him fix it or anything, just figured he'd let me know with no ulterior motive. His office is full of TVs with their back panels removed and motherboards all over the desk and he mentioned that he likes to fix up TVs and donate them to foster care places. Super sweet man. Would definitely come back here. Might even ask for an apprenticeship tbh, he obviously has a lot of knowledge and is morally sound which is more than I can say about a lot of people. I'd also like to mention I'm a young female who doesn't know much about cars (perfect candidate for scamming) and he still was very kind and honest and didn't try to charge me anything extra. read more

The owner is very knowledgeable, and will walk you through the sequence of the smog test. He will even give FREE diagnostics if your "Check Engine" light comes on! Of course, the business runs on a "first-come-first-served" basis, so be prepared to wait if cars are in front of you. But the service is worth the wait! The price is also very good! If you can find a discount coupon online or through "PennySaver", you can have the smog test for $35 to $40 only. Very rude customer service...went here last week for a smog check and was told the "system was down" and asked me to call back later. I called back this week and asked if the system was back up and asked approximately how long a smog check would take; instead of answering a simple question I was told "I hate all these questions". I took my Mitsubishi Outlander to Johnny on 11/18/19. He was very helpful and friendly. I paid $50 for my smog test. My vehicle is 12 years old and passed the test which took about 20 minutes to complete including paperwork. Johnny entered the smog test results into a laptop computer and gave me a printed copy. He is a good Christian man originally from Armenia. Johnny can be trusted to give you honest results and excellent service. read more

I did not feel right after I had my SUV smogged at this place. First, the smog guy told me that my SUV will be $10 extra, which I agree to. Then he told me that my SUV would not pass smog and that he could "fix it". My registration was due the next day so I went with it. After waiting several hours, I finally went to pay him for the smog check which was advertised for $29.95+certificate. The final charge was $40 (smog and cert)+$10 SUV fee+"bonus money for the fix"+credit card fee=$75. Just be careful when you deal with the people at this place. Get everything written down up front so you do not get surprise charges on your final bill. read more

A close family member had referred me to Sunrise SMOG when I was fumbling a little bit about where to go for a SMOG inspection. My family member said that he always got his SMOG inspected at Sunrise. So I brought my Honda Fit 2010 to John's Sunrise SMOG at Rancho Cordova. John, who appeared to me to be about 60 odd years of age, turned out to be a very kind-hearted professional, who goes out of his way to help his customers. He did the SMOG testing spot-on: he did whatever he had to do. Within four or five minutes, he blurted out: "Perfect". That means: my car passed. Then his kindness showed: he was very helpful in a way that makes the occasion really memorable. I'll always take my car to John's in future. I prayed for his good health and happiness. read more

I recently took my 2001 Corvette Z06 and 1997 BMW to Johnny at Sunrise Smog and couldn't have been treated better at a place that has saved me $$ over and over. He is very honest and old school and tells it like it is---that saves everyone time. My BMW had check engine on and he did not test and charge me for that fail. He not only explained the codes but what to do from the actual schematic! Again no charge. He goes beyond what anyone else in town would do. I was in and out in no time with my Corvette and told me it was just like new. He is not test only now but now can do smog repairs and I will be bringing my BMW to him for my O2 sensor ground problem. You can't ask for anything more from a test and repair station. I pulled in and the business seemed busy (9/19/2020). There were used seats from a car and other trash out front but the place had great reviews so I thought sure, I'll still give them a shot. I walk into the office and there are two half assembled televisions and just a general mess of a place that had been neglected. Based on the conditions I saw, I changed my mind. When I started to leave, the owner/manager came out and proceeded to attempt to say I was insulting his business by leaving because they hadn't even gotten to say hi. I tried to be nice and say that there was nobody available and they seemed busy and just go on my way. I work on cars and I don't expect a mechanics office to be spotless but the conditions alone made me not want to stay, once he was rude and claimed I was insulting his business by leaving I stopped trying to be cordial and got into my car and left without another word. I don't need his business, he needs mine. I will not use this place and highly recommend going somewhere that actually decides that professionalism is more important than whatever this guy had a problem with. read more

Didn't want to take time off from work in the morning to get it done. Searched on the internet for a place near me and noticed that Sunrise Smog is supposed to be open until 10:00 PM. Drove there and met Jany. He performed the smog check for $50 and had me back on the road in about half an hour. I will certainly be taking my wife's car there for smog as well.
