John Linn was issued an "Advisory Letter" from the Arizona Medical Board in 2016 for operating on the wrong body part. Although, that was the least egregious of his medical transgressions during my short experience with him. My report to the AZ Medical Board was 8 pages long so I will need to be very brief. After performing an ultrasound (US) which he claimed showed 3 kidney stones, Linn hastily scheduled me for surgery the next business day at San Tan Surgical center. He did not confirm the presence of stones with a ct scan ( there were none.) He would later claim he told me to have a ct scan, which was untrue. He went ahead and operated on the opposite kidney where the US Indicated possible targets. After the unnecessary procedure I had extreme pain and heavy bleeding. Linn dismissed this, only saying through his assistant that I needed to remember that " I just had surgery." I took a medication phenazopyridine (AZO) at his assistant's suggestion and had a bad reaction that abruptly stopped my urine flow for many hours despite regular fluid intake. I called Linn with textbook symptoms of over-hydration (nausea, headache, swelling leading to a dangerous condition of low blood sodium). He was overtly hostile in his demeanor and he told me I was experiencing "anxiety" and that I was "dehydrated." Even 36 hours later my sodium serum level was still below normal. A week later I was admitted to the hospital for an antibiotic resistant infection from Linn's procedure. Before going to the hospital I called his office with symptoms of acute urinary tract infection. I was told by Linn that I should "wait and see for 24hours." Only 12 hours later I was admitted to the cardiac unit and put on septic watch with a soaring white blood cell count. John Linn's substandard care, poor judgement, patient blaming, and worst of all, apathy toward his patient, have caused multiple chronic problems which have irrevocably altered my life. It is one thing to be a bad doctor, but it is unforgivable to be a bad human being. John Lin clearly suffers from both of those ailments. read more

wonderful staff and Dr Lin is great. Their policies have left me hanging though. I had my vasectomy done here and weeks later I was still in pain. I had spoken with my psychologist and he told me to wait 3 months and if I was still in pain to contact my urologist. So I waited 3 months to the day to call but 3 months fell on a Saturday so I called the following Monday. i made a follow up appointment but the day before I received a text that I was going to have to pay out of pocket for the appointment. I called and they told me that the reason I have to pay for followup care is because I was outside of their 90 day policy. I told them it had been 93 days and they told me there was nothing they can do. they were polite about it but still. I had hoped the dr who performed my procedure could tell me whats wrong and fix me if needed but I cant afford to pay for that as well. I do NOT recommend this facility if you are a woman, particularly a pregnant one. My (at times debilitating) kidney pain was completely dismissed. The blood found in my urine was completely dismissed, despite my 12 week pregnancy. My familial history of kidney disease was dismissed. The doctor spent about three minutes physically examining me, and about 7 more in the room total with me. He then told me to come back in six months if there is still blood in my urine after I had the baby. That there was basically nothing to be done currently. I stated my frustration at paying $172 for an exam to be told to come back in 6 months. At this point, the doctor said that he could order an ultra sound of the kidneys if I wanted. No kidney blood-work. Nothing. I paid $172 to be told to follow up in 6 months. Unacceptable. I asked for a refund as so I can afford to pay someone who seems to actually care, and was refused. Had I not been required to pay up front, I would not have paid, as I was not provided adequate service. When I began crying and explaining how disappointed I was in my service, how dismissed I felt, I was asked to leave by Irma the office manager, who never once apologized that I felt dismissed and not taken care of in the least. read more

He made extremely absurd comments about my high blood pressure asking if I had life insurance hinting I'm going to die from a heart attack soon. I don't recommend him at all. Went back for my follow up and received a check over and instructions for lab testing to make sure it took. Haven't had any sort of issues following the procedure. Just got my lab results back and I'm completely sterile! Yay!! I don't know which kind of cake is appropriate for this sort of celebration. read more

I am a retired perioperative RN with 40 years experience and I was so impressed with Sunrise Urology...Dr. Lin and his staff from front office to back office. I appreciated how clean, quiet and uncluttered the lobby area was. The front office was very efficient and also respected my privacy as a patient. Very friendly staff who made eye contact and helped allay any anxiety. I also was impressed with minimal wait time. Dr. Lin has a calm demeanor and is very professional and a good listener. I just had my post TURP surgery follow up 2/27/15 with Dr Lin. My PSA dropped from pre surgery level 8.6 to 1.9 ! I feel great and i have regular flow with no issues. The staff are friendly and helpful but my experience with Dr. Lin was the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor ever. Walked in, did not introduce himself or shake my hand. Would not make eye contact with me or look at me in the eye in general. Did not listen to what I was saying when describing what I was feeling. Cut me off and interrupted as I tried to do so. Disagreed completely with results from ultrasound. Did not care at all. For topic as sensitive as urology and reproductive issue and how serious it can be if not properly taken care of in a timely matter- you would think that the doctor would at least listen to your symptoms. Dr. Lin saw me for a total of 2 minutes. Like I said before, WORST EXPERIENCE with a medical professional I've ever had. I would speak strongly against seeing Dr. Lin for any issues. read more

After being a patient there and having a very expensive biopsy procedure (covered by United Health Care) and follow up testing which I had to pay over $1,000 for as NOT covered by insurance. I recently retired and have Medicare Complete with United Health Care and Sunrise Urology dropped me as a patient. This is not a place for a long term relationship of Doctor /Patient care. It is my first-time visit to a Doctor in the US and a first-time visit to Sunrise. I had a good experience and Dr. Lin was good at examining and listening to my opinion. Dr. Lin and his staff are great. I went in for a kidney stone in January 2010 and that went well. I then went in for the big V in December 2010... it was straightforward, the doctor was very comforting and the procedure went very well. I'm sure my jokes about strange women grabbing my bits and pieces fell on deaf ears but that's how I dealt with it. Healing went smoothly and I was back to normal functionality in 3 weeks. I've had 3 friends go through the procedure elsewhere and all three got infections or some other sort of complication. I even forgot to fill out the online paperwork and when I got there the receptionist did not give any grid, just smiled and handed me the paperwork! Wow not a fit like other places. I did not have any issues with my initial appointment. It was my follow-up appointment. I called to cancel in a timely manner where I should not had been charged a fee. Yet I was still charged $99.00. I refused to pay. Dr Lin sent me to collections which has since then tripled in amount, $299.00 to be exact. His collection company is impossible to correspond with, having no phone number. He is a crook. I do not recommend. read more
