Ater Install: It's been about a week since the above paragraph. My panels were installed without a hitch by (Vivint inhouse install team) an amazing group of men and women. Hiccups: No mess at all and they took special safety precautions (warning tape and all). Juan was there for the install to make sure it went smoothly. The only thing that came up was the installers cut a square of drywall out under my electrical panel & forgot to inform me. I brought this to Juan's attention and he immediately went into action. I didn't need to do anything! No irritating phone calls, nothing. Positive Solutions, Positive Results Juan expedited my claim and within 36 hours, it was resolved!!! The following is an email that I sent to VIVINT customer service to which there was no reply. The customer service office of VIVINT Solar has to be the worst I have dealt with in quite sometime. I have been a customer of VIVINT Solar for several years and used to recommend your company's service. That will never happen again! VIVINT Solar has not held up their end of the contract that was signed especially the part about maintenance and repair of the system. VIVINT has repeatedly failed me as a customer. I had a scheduled appointment with VIVINT on 12 November 2016 to have the conduit issue fixed on 16 December 2016. When I made the original request it was going to be over a month until a tech could come to my home. This was apparently due to there not being enough repair techs since the one that serviced my area had quit and it was necessary for a tech from another area to cover. On 17 December I received a picture of the issue which had not been fixed. There has been no communications from VIVINT stating when it will be fixed. This is just another example of the substandard customer service that I get with VIVINT. Today 19 Dec 2016 a VIVINT rep contacted me to reschedule the repair to my system that was supposed to be performed on 16 Dec 2016. Apparently the next appointment open is on 3 Jan 2017, REALLY!?? The rep also explained that the tech ran out of time for appointments on 16 Dec and that now I have to wait an additional two weeks to get my system repaired. If it would have been a few more days like 2-3 that would have been ok...not two weeks. Just because the technician ran out of time does not mean that I as a customer should have to wait another two weeks. When I asked to speak to a manager the customer rep told me "The manager will just say the same thing that I have told you". What is going on, with VIVINT customer service? Used to be when a customer asked to speak to a manager it meant something, with VIVINT it DOES NOT! VIVINT does not care about the customer, otherwise it would make an effort to treat customers fairly instead of bullying them. How is it my fault that VIVINT does not have enough staff on hand for repairs to where I have to take time out of my work day to deal with substandard customer service personnel? VIVINT is now in breach of contract due to the fact that it has not held up their promise of maintenance and repair of the system. It should not take two months! Once again I will be contacting the BBB and the Maryland Attorney General's office along with any other social media outlet to let everyone know that once again VIVINT has failed me as a customer. Even though VIVINT does nothing to "make the situation right" people use the BBB to check businesses out. Hopefully I can spare some people of the frustration I feel. I wish I would have never given VIVINT another opportunity to do business with me. I thought the VIVINT solar would be different than the home security monitoring. Well it is different, in a bad way. VINVIT Solar reps are no help at all and do not care about the customers. They have no ability to make any situation better, only worse. Here it is the holiday season and I am having to deal with VIVINT once again not holding up their part of the contract! I would like somebody in the VIVINT management chain to contact me with an explanation of why VIVINT is not holding up their part of our contract and also when a tech can come to my home and fix my broken system within a reasonable time frame (2-3 days) from today 19 Dec 2016. Do not get solar from this company. They have double charged us and have been giving me the runaround for almost two months for a refund. I have also attempted to secure a buyout, but their buyout team doesn't respond to emails and refuses to give you information on maintenance performed and warranties (if any) on the panels themselves. Run FAR away from this company if they try to sell you panels. Buy your own from somewhere else and take advantage of the federal tax credit that these scammers get instead of you. read more

Yes, this is a true story. My fiancee had not even said yes and he had already set a foot in the door. I was behind her and stopped him before he could get in. You're a good salesmen.. I'll give you that. But spewing a bunch of mumbo jumbo and using terminology to make it seem like this is some how related to the govt and going to be a requirement is not the way to do business. I can understand and respect that Vivint Solar is a legitimate business. But these sales tactics are off-putting. I have had my panels about a year and I love them. I paid absolutely nothing for the panels and I am saving so much money! When the rep came to my door it seemed to good to be true but my wife's friend had Vivint Solar on her home already so it made it a little easier to listen. Our rep explained the process and walked us through it the whole way. In the end we have been so please with our solar array, savings and interactions with Vivint Solar! So much so that I got my mother to get solar panels. Now that is saying something! read more

Things seemed great to start with. A pair of gentleman showed up in their Vivant orange trucks and took many many photos of my house and the roof and electric panel etc. I never heard back as to how much money I could save or as to what exactly would happen after that and what the details were. Overall the gist I understood was that I would never own the panels, all I would do is pay them for electricity instead of the BGE. Maybe I would save a few bucks on the electrical bill but I would never own the panels. That does not sound as exciting. Since they never called or emailed me back with any official plans of how the system would work, I was left disappointed and feeling like they didn't give good service. The two guys that came out were very friendly and seemed pretty cool. But with the lack of good follow up, that doesn't mean much in this world. read more

Getting solar panels put on your home is a big decision. Anyone considering it should think about it carefully. ***And no one should ever have Vivint Solar install panels on their home!!!*** I have never dealt with such an unethical company or such incompetent people. Vivint installed solar panels on my home last year (June 2017) and caused extensive damage to my roof causing major leaks across the entire surface of my roof. They have done virtually nothing to repair the damage to my roof, or the subsequent damage caused to the interior of my home. And they have been unwilling to pay but a fraction the costs to repair this damage. For those who haven't experienced leaks *yet* just wait. You are on the hook for 20 years. You will, and Vivint will fail to live up to the assurances its reps made when selling you on the panels. When it became apparent to Vivint that they had caused damage to my home, they sent me a settlement agreement offering to pay for a fraction of the total portion of the cost to repair the damage. If I had signed that agreement I would have waived my right to pursue Vivint for any further damage caused by their installation. This is their m.o. If you receive a settlement agreement from Vivint read it carefully and do not sign anything that nullifies your original power purchase agreement. You do have recourse in Maryland outside of arbitration, despite what dishonest Vivint reps may tell you. First of all, contact your homeowners insurance agent, and make complaints to the state Attorney General, against their contractor's license, with the BBB, etc. Post your experience on social media. Contact local media outlets who do stories on companies that take advantage of consumers. Talking to a lawyer is always a good idea, if only for a consultation about your rights and how to recover damages in a legal action. One reviewer said "Run don't walk away from this company!" My experience with VIVINT Solar was exceptional. From my salesperson Kim to the panel installers, and outside equipment guy, the entire experience was professional and top notch. The county inspector and BG&E all arrived as scheduled and explained the process, answering all my questions patiently and expertly. I may end up purchasing the panels after I see lower energy bills. My neighbor had 1 month when her bill was $9.00, another month she paid $19.00 and 1 month where she sold energy back to Baltimore G & E??? Still can't figure out that one. Today Atlas Energy conducted a Home Energy Audit. My next project is new insulation in the attic. I am doing my part to preserve our big, blue, beautiful planet. I have been a Vivint Solar customer for almost three years and I have never had any complaints about the customer service, Installation or Savings. I pay 10.6 cents per Kilowatt for the power that I use versus my neighbor who does not have solar and they pay between .15 & .16 cents per kilowatt, so for example, if we both use 1000 kilowatts every month then I pay $50 less every month for using the same amount of power! I'm truly grateful for finally having a choice other than the monopoly of BG&E or Pepco and lets not forget what its like calling them for help! read more

Horrible. After a year of waiting for hookup after installation, we were informed that our sales rep had died and our account had gone into limbo. We were promised 8 months of free service by a high level official of Vivant Solar. After hookup, Vivant came out because they were not receiving usage reports. THE INSTALLERS HAD NOT PLUGGED IN THE EQUIPMENT INTO THE MODEM. Prior to that, Vivant came out to trim the shingles because we had failed the county inspection. The installer didn't know how to trim the shingles and I would not let him on the roof. I had to reschedule the repair. We are called daily about our bill. Each time that we call Vivant Solar to discuss the billing, we are treated badly. If we protest the way that we are treated, we are called names and are told that they will hang up on us. Today we were called again. Nathan had not even read the notes on the account. We have been trying to communicate with the person who promised the rebates, but he does not respond. We told Nathan, after a useless discussion, that we will continue to ignore their daily harassment. WE THOUGHT THAT WE WERE DOING SOMETHING WORTHWHILE, BUT VIVANT SOLAR IS NOT WORTH IT. To Vivant Solar, I made the mistake several years ago signing a contract for solar panels with Vivant.My lengthy list of issues of dissatisfaction starts with the installation,hole in my roof ,took panels off of neighbors house instead of mine while roof and kitchen cieling was being repaired,charged for them while not on my roof and panels were lost while in storage.This brings me up to date for my current issue.My bill is emailed monthly.This month it was posted at $0.00.It takes you an HOUR on hold to speak to someone and you always need to be transferred....another hour.The Service reps are very scripted and say I am sorry every other word.They are able to check to see if the non working issue can be corrected remotely. Of course, it can not be and requires a service call to the house next week.Important information..July and August are great months to collect solar energy.$$$$ So my question that I continue to ask them is where is your QUALITY Performance Dept. If a bill is $0.00 that is a clear indicator that it is NOT working. Really when I see a Vivant truck in the neighborhood I shutter and think those poor people that have made the same Bad decision that I made in signing a contract with them. Take my advice and look around because there are multiple options now for solar panels. I give them ZERO stars. read more

To be fair, my system is in the installation phase, so my review is based on this phase of my journey. Another positive is that customers can call and speak to a friendly associate who can look up customer accounts and schedule appointments. The major problem is that the technicians do not communicate with customers. One time they showed up without telling me, so no one could be home to give them access. Another time, the technician cancelled the work order without telling me. I have complained and asked to speak with a manager three times. Eventually, I did speak with a supervisor, and a technician was supposed to come by, or call if he/she couldn't make it. Unfortunately, they stood me up again. read more

If I could give Vivint 0 stars I would. I stupidly signed a 20 year lease and 2 years later sold the house. After a great deal of stress and wrangling, fortunately the new owners agreed to take over the 18 yr lease. Relief! But I keep getting new bills even though I sold the house a month ago. One call (after 20+ min on hold) said this was because the new owners had not sent the settlement statement in. But no one asked me for the settlement statement, so I sent it in. I called back (another 20+ min on hold) and was told, no, that wasn't the problem at all. The new bill was for the very last payment due. Ok great. But tonight, I received word that ANOTHER bill is due. DONT COMMIT TO VIVINT. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. Supposedly I've saved $, but there's no way to know-they don't supply that kind of info. RUN! Currently investigating class action lawsuit potentials. This company's repair team came and totally shut off my system because it was broken. So - the switch is OFF. Then...randomly one month while the system has been off for close to a year waiting on a part....they decide to start charging me $200 a month in "estimated billing". They are estimating that a system that is turned off and incapable of producing energy is producing $200 with of energy a month. MAGIC! Google them - look at reviews - they suck and their sales practices are shady. Told us we wouldn't have an electricity bill - yet I have one every month. Told us we would save money - yet I am paying more. Told us so much crap that just wasn't true. There is also NO WAY to reconcile your bill against what the electric company is "receiving". You just have to take good ole honest Vivints word for it because there is NO visible meter....just whatever they tell you it's producing.... SCAM folks! read more

Cannot and will Not recommend #VivintSolar, I'm beyond livid at this point! We were told at time of install one removal was free.... but when we called they charged us $500, we had to wait 20 days for an appointment and then just up and didn't show up. They were scheduled for 11-2, then when I called at 4 I was told they would be there within the hour.... but they never showed. New roof was suppose to be installed today, had to cancel.... 24hrs after panels were suppose to be removed still no one knows WHY or when they will be removed.... all why roof continues to leak.... it's great! And no one will give me a direct line I have to go through the fricking automated system everytime I call. . Now they tell me they will get back to me in 2-3 business days.... UNACCEPTABLE ! I should have been first on the list this morning to have them removed! I'm told the project manager cancelled the job bc he had questions, but didn't indicate what those questions were... yet I was assured they would be there before EOB since my roof was schedule to be put on. I told them it better be fine before next weekend and I was told 'they'd see what they can do'. How can you not get a hold of your project manager for over 24hrs??? Vivint put solar panels on our house for free. We paid nothing up front and save on our monthly bill. The sales rep was professional, respectful, and helped me understand the process which, unfortunately takes a very long time. It was worth the wait. We are saving on average $50 per month. The install process was quite loud but only lasted a day and the panels look nice on our roof. read more

I believe I have enough information to write a review. So we got the panels installed as promised (maybe a little longer due to inspections required) and have received about 4 bills. We live in an aprox. 5000 sq foot home with 3 HVAC units. May was our highest bill through Vivint, it was $81.00 our other bill through our provider for May was $5.86. We keep our home cooled to between 74-75 degrees. So i am extremely pleased with how much we are saving over last year this time. Our sales person Brandon Wyzga is awesome, he explained the bill to us and took a lot of time to help us understand it. With no money down and I feel like I am helping the environment (and my pockets) feels like a win-win! read more

This company has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with . Could not get a live person on the phone. After several attempts, finally got someone. Too bad there was a language barrier. The woman was extremely nice but I could not understand her bc of her accent. Tried to schedule a deinstall back in November to have my roof repaired bc of a roof leak. Vivint waited until Jan. to get the panels down. Not even two weeks later, Vivint kept calling wanting to put the solar panels back up. Well now the weather is bad and I can't get repairs done. The repairs could have been made and panels could have been installed if Vivint would have shown some urgency. Roof got repaired in Feb. Two emails and at least 4 phone calls later and now we are in June and still no panels. A reinstall was scheduled for Apr. 22, but no one showed, no one even gave me a courtesy phone call to say they weren't coming. If it were up to me I would not have them put back up. I was stunned at the high pressure, unethical and illegal manner he tried convince me. Using "BGE" repeatedly as his business partner to convince me his offer was legit pushed me too far! No ID, no sales license, no contractor ID and never introduced himself but wanted more information on me! These tactics are deplorable! I am selling my town home and was disappointed to here the purchaser backed out d\t having solar panels. Let me explain the contract as it pertains to replacement. But first I will say we have had our panels on for over a year and have had no problem, it has saved us on our monthly electrical bill every month. Now back to warranty issues. VIVANT will warrant that the brackets that mount the panels to the house will remain water tight, and will take care of any water damage to the roof if they do not remain water tight. VIVANT inspected the roof and the attic of our home to be sure that it could handle the weight of the panels and that the shingles where in good condition. VIVANT stated that they would let me know if my roof needed replacement before panels where placed. When there comes a time for the roof to be replaced, VIVANT charges $500.00 to remove panels and then replace when roofing is done (check with agent for current pricing). Now, If your panels are ruined by a hail storm, VIVANT themselves does not cover the replacement, but, read this carefully, VIVANT has purchased an insurance policy that covers the replacement of the panels. If there is a big wind and it tears a panel off your roof, or a tree falls breaking the panels and damaging your roof. Your homeowners policy will replace your roof, and at the same time call VIVANT so they can call their insurance provider to get working on when the new panels can be installed. My family have had no problem and we are happy. Our neighbor and ourselves have been able to have panels installed on the front and back of our roof, another solar company told our neighbor 3 doors down they would only install on the rear of his home. Thank You Seth for working hard with us and always being there to answer our question. We love the fact that when we get our PEPCO bill we see we are saving over last year, every month. read more

I have had one problem after another with Vivint Solar. If there was the capability of a zero or less rating, that would be my choice Long story short, I signed an agreement with Vivint in Feb of 2016. My panels are still not connected/functioning due to the utter mismanagement of my account by Vivint. On three different dates, I took off from work to await an electrical inspection between the hours of 8 - 4. On each occasion, Vivint confirmed the appointment to me via e-mail. Apparently the appointments were never confirmed with the inspector because no one ever showed up. The fourth inspection was scheduled for 11/16 but when, on the day before, I requested that Vivint confirm the appointment with the city, I was informed that the permit had already been approved thus the scheduled inspection was not necessary! After much back and forth, Vivint agreed to compensate me for my missed time at work. To this date, I have not received a penny from Vivint and my e-mails and phone calls have gone unanswered. I received notice on 12/29/2016 that my system was ready to turn on, which I did. Problem is, it has never worked. Again, no contact from Vivint. It was necessary for me to call them about the non-functioning equipment. They didn't even seem to be aware. I have never dealt with a company that has such total disregard for a customer's time. One would think that after all my difficulties and the inconveniences that Vivint has imposed, my account would be prioritized or fast-tracked but there has been no such reaction. read more

After our discussions with the Vivint sales rep and signing the contracts in August 2015, solar panels were installed on the roof of our house in Maryland on Sept. 8th 2015 on a lease basis with no cost up front. Everything went smoothly and quickly up until that point: the paperwork went through quickly, Vivint was responsive and kept us informed of progress in getting initial approval from our local power company (PEPCO), and the installation crew was efficient and professional -- completing the job in one day. We were told that building and electrical inspection by the County would be scheduled within the week, after which we'd need to wait up to two months for PEPCO to install a new electric meter on the outside of the house. Fair enough. Nov. 11th 2015 Update: We are still waiting for the building and electrical inspections to take place. Our account has been handed off to a junior Vivint rep in Utah who is of no help and who keeps telling us that the inspections can't be scheduled until she has the paperwork from Vivint's (own!) installation crew back on Sept. 8th -- i.e. two months ago -- in hand. She also tells us how much work she has to do and that she's new to the company. Once already, she thought that she had the paperwork finally in hand and so she scheduled for the MD County inspector to come to our house...except the paperwork was in fact not in order. The inspector showed up at the house (Vivint had not called the County to cancel), but we had no paperwork to give him...because Vivint had sent us nothing. Whenever it is that the County inspection finally takes place, and assuming that Vivint's work passes inspection, we'll then have to wait another two months or so for PEPCO to come to the house to install a new electric meter before the solar panels can begin generating electricity. We're not going to see those panels working before spring 2016, we figure. This has been a thoroughly unimpressive and unprofessional performance by Vivint, despite initial promise, and we're still waiting for the work to be completed. The original sales rep has disappeared from the scene and does not reply to emails. They gave us close attention up to the point of getting their panels on our roof and then, once they had us locked up as a customer safe from being able to sign up with competing solar power companies, they stopped paying attention. They seem completely overwhelmed with the volume of business that they are bringing in in what is a very competitive market. 12/31/15 Update: Still getting the run-around. The junior Vivint rep in Utah emails or phones us every now and then to say that they are "still working" on the permitting paperwork as well as the CAD drawings from their own work-crews's installation of the panels last September -- both of which are required for the County inspection. No one higher up than her in the company is responding to our communications. Pathetic, and they don't care. Stay away from Vivint. See other customer complaints at the BBB website. 3/5/16 Update: STILL getting the run-around. No progress of any kind. Recall that we had the panels installed on 9/8/15 -- that was 6 months ago. Late April 2016. They finally got their permits act together, got the net meter installed by PEPCO, and the system is now operational -- 7 months later. read more

I reached out to Vivint about setting up a solar PPA on our house. The salesperson we worked with, Chris, was friendly, responsive, and helpful at every point in the process. He didn't engage in high-pressure sales tactics (a pleasant contrast to SolarCity, which called me daily for almost a month after I told them I wasn't interested.) We went through the process of surveying the house, creating a map of our potential solar system, and were given a full proposal to review. The numbers seemed like they'd mean a moderate decrease in our energy costs, ramping up to a somewhat substantial decrease over the next few years (assuming energy rates in our area increase, which seems likely to me.) The catch, which I only learned about at my final appointment, is that you are committing to a 20 year contract. If you decide to sell your house in the next 20 years, you either have to transfer the balance of your contract over to the buyers OR if the new owners don't want the contract (which seems perfectly possible), you have to buy out the entire system (and pay for removal yourself) - a cost of tens of thousands of dollars. Even if there's only a 20% chance that the next buyer doesn't want your solar contract, that's a pretty big risk to be taking, especially when the benefits are relatively small potatoes in energy savings. And who has an extra 10 or 20K just sitting around when they're getting ready to sell their home? Ultimately, this issue is a dealbreaker for me. I assume solar is only getting better and that hopefully in a few years these contracts will become more straightforward and compelling. I look forward to signing up then, but not now! read more

Vivint installed a solar panel system on my room last year and the process went as smooth as possible (there were delays due to permit approvals, but that was more the responsibility of the county). I did not go into this with the idea of saving money - I wanted solar panels to obtain clean energy. The cost savings are small, but I am happy to have the panels. We had Vivant Solar panels put on our home in Crofton, MD. We had no problems until we sold our home in May. We did all of the paperwork to have the panels transferred to the new owners. We even have paperwork stating the transfer was made. However, Vivant CONTINUES to bill us. My husband has spent hours on the phone trying to correct this. Each time he's told its taken care of and each time we get yet another bill with the amount due getting larger! Very annoying. read more

These guys have done professional work on my in-laws house so we decided to try them out. The process has been very easy with them doing all the work by presenting it to my HOA and pulling all the permits for it. The only complaint is the loudness of the work. Dont let these people into your house. Immediately tell you them you arent interested. I had a representative show up randomly. I played nice as he seemed like a nice enough fella and I was curious about solar. Then the harrassment started. I kept getting phone calls and text messages from this guy saying he was very busy but could set up an apt. Red flag one: his time was made to seem more important than mine. Who buys that psuedo sense of urgency B.S? I told him to please email me the info so I can make an informed decision. Red flag two: apparently this company isnt willing to forward you information. So about a week later I get a text from this individual while I am waiting for my wife to get out of surgery. I texted him and shared my situation and told him if he was not able to send me information I was not interested. Again he texted it needed to be done in person. I replied that I was not interested. Later that day he sent me a text to say that he would try contacting me the next month with my permission. Unbeleivable. About two weeks post recovery, this guy shows up at my door again while I was mowing the lawn. My wife told him to leave and that we were uninterested. Huge mistake going with Vivint! DONT DO IT!! The sales people tell you whatever you want to hear to make the sale and even after when we started to have issues they just tell you what you want to hear to keep you quiet. Before install they told us our roof would be inspected of its condition to be sure we didn't need a new roof before install . They actually just make sure it's in good enough shape to hold the weight. A few weeks after we had a leak coming in over my daughters bed. There ended up being a hole in my roof that was caused by them and said that it was because our roof was in poor shape and it wasn't their fault. So , let me get this straight, you somehow put a hole in my roof , no one says anything about doing it, I get a leak in my house and you're not responsible for any of it?? Number 1. Why were solars panels put up there if my roof was in poor condition !? and number 2. The hole didn't just appear, your workers did it somehow and then didn't mention it to me. My daughter woke up at 3am saying water was dripping on her face!! Weeks later we had a company come out and check out roof and sure enough, it needs to be replaced! The roof company told us that Vivint charges thousands of dollars to have the panels taken down and put back. Our sales rep told us $500!! I called customer service and they said someone would get back to me with a email within a week. Nothing! I also called my sales rep who gave empty promises about handling things with pricing and getting back to me. He said I would be grandfathered in the $500 charge because their pricing has changed. I messaged him daily and everyday he said " I'll know something tomorrow". Eventually he just stopped responding . I called customer service again and the lady was so rude. I explained my issues with the condition of my roof and why the inspection went through . She said it wasn't their job to make sure your roof is up to date , as long as the roof is good enough for panels and too bad because I signed the contract. I asked about the pricing too and she couldn't give me any answers to that . We are about a month out and still nothing from anyone. the worst solar company . it takes more than 2 years for installation and after installation, they charge you more than the price you are paying to your electric bill to electric company. you be better off with out them. beside there is a 20 years contract. and you are stock with them. try other solar company with better reputation. the larger ones are better. not these scam artist. read more

This company has lied to us from day one. Most of our panels are not working but we have been charged and are paying all the while. We have been begging for them to fix our panels but they keep putting us off. It is now months and they say the first available time is March. Please do not use this company. You will be sorry. Everything looks wonderful in the beginning and then their true colors come through. read more

A Vivint sales rep came to my door last year to try and get me to install solar panels. I went back and forth with him. What I really wanted to get from him was exactly how much I was going to save on my electric bill. He essentially tap danced around this despite me giving him my current electric bills to show how much electricity I used. He was pretty persistent and ultimately even offered me $1,000 to sign up. I just wasn't convinced it was going to be a good thing for me. I also had read a ton of negative reviews online. Now comes the part I am really complaining about. A few days ago I did my annual credit report check and what did I find but a credit inquiry from Vivint. When I was talking with the rep I very specifically told him not to run a credit check and that I would not authorize one. I did not want my credit report to be adversely affected by an inquiry for something I was not going to purchase. They did it any way. This simply proves that Vivint cannot be trusted.
