We had a great family dinner at Sunset Bar & Grill. We arrived around 5:15 and had no problem finding a shaded table on the patio, which was a nice surprise. Since it's seat yourself, we settled in quickly. It took a little while for someone to acknowledge us, but once we were greeted, the service was friendly and efficient for the rest of the meal. The cocktails were good--nothing extraordinary, but exactly what we expected for a casual waterfront restaurant. The food was the highlight. My blackened haddock sandwich was excellent, and my wife said her lobster roll was one of the best she's had during our Maine trip. Our son loved the kids' haddock fingers, and our daughter ordered the cheeseburger from the regular menu since there wasn't one on the kids' menu. Both cleaned their plates, which says a lot! Barely present staff. 90 minutes for food with no update. Parts of the order missing. Mediocre food when we got it. This is a seat yourself place so good luck getting anyone's attention. When we finally did, it was almost 90 minutes before our food came. We got an appetizer but were never offered extra plates or a "how's it going" or refills until the food arrived. The waitress left as fast as she could. The drink order was messed up, and we were MINUTES AWAY from putting $20 on the table and leaving. When the food did arrive, part of the order was missing because "it went to someone else." WTF? Also, as an insult to injury, the menu has items listed as gluten free. We have a symptomatic celiac with us and when we mention one person needed to be gluten free the waitress kinda said "uh ok" which wasn't confidence inspiring. And clearly there is cross contact because our family member doesn't feel good after ordering simple nachos (marked GF). Look, restaurants are hard, I know. But maybe this place used to be good? Why was it so packed? The food that we did end up getting was mediocre, like it all came from US Foods or Sysco. Other than the lobster presumably. But everything was your basic "throw it in a fryer" type stuff you get anywhere else. I haven't left a zero percent tip in 20 years, but tonight, they earned it. read more

The Food: A Culinary Tragedy I didn't think it was possible to mess up basic comfort food this badly, but the kitchen here is apparently full of overachievers. The Appetizer: We ordered the mozzarella sticks. It arrived lukewarm on the edges and literally frozen solid in the middle. Microwaving 101 has failed this kitchen. The Main Course (Lobster Roll): I received a sloppy roll with more mayo than lobster. It was so bad I didn't finish it. The Fries: Cold, soggy, and entirely unsalted. I'll start with the food good it was seemed better a couple years ago not sure what happened. No the biggest problem service. Only saw the waitress twice and the second time was for the check after being there for 1 hour she never asked how the food was or even refilled are drinks we had set them at edge of table so in easy view they were empty . We were right next to the kiosk or what ever you would like to call it so she walked by multiple multiple times even glanced down as she walked by. When the check came we wanted to just leave and get out asap put card done go to hand it back and then she walks way she walks by couple more times before we pick up the tab and put it up into her path. My husband and I decided to return to Sunset bar and Grill before we went back home from Maine. He really enjoyed the single lobster last time and this time he ordered a twin lobster. Their pricing is really good compared to others. The single lobster was $31 and if you get the twin lobster it's $42. I noticed that they had a vegetable burrito on the menu and people could add protein if they like. It was pretty disappointing to me. It says it comes with pumpkin rice and black beans cheese mango pico de gallo. It's supposed to come with salsa and sour cream. When I received it, there was no sauces. It was mostly white rice and counted four black beans in the entire thing. I thought it was a rice and bean burrito. Salsa on the side. That was delicious. I actually just ate it out of the little container. They definitely need to make this burrito more even and not full of white rice and no black beans or other flavors.thank you for making options for vegetarians, but we need to do better. read more

The best tuna dish I've ever eaten! Please put it on the everyday menu! Steak tips, blackened haddock sandwich and chicken tenders were expertly prepared. Did I mention the cocktails? Nicely done. We were greeted by a young lady (too young to mention her name) with sweet, sweet answers to our questions as we were walking by. We decided to go for it. Ordered the twin tail lobster. Good Lob, Good Corn, Good Bread, Good Slaw. Great place to have a very good meal on a picinic table. We will be back. Highly recommend. Best place on the "strip". read more

The food here has quickly become some of my favorite in OOB. I recently had the sunset salad with salmon, which was one of the best salads I've ever had. Absolutely delicious. The service is always friendly, and drinks are always cold. read more

This place had decent reviews so we went with it. Sat outside and it was nice. It was a little confusing because there wasn't really a sign stating this, but basically you just find a seat and sit down. It definitely confused more than a few people, as we were leaving people that had been waiting asked us if they needed to wait where they were or go to the patio? We let them know if they could find an empty table, it was theirs. There was live music going, which was nice. I had the sunset burrito and I found this to definitely be lacking. It was ALL RICE with a couple black beans and maybe a teaspoon of salsa thrown in. I was highly disappointed with it. The description on the menu made it seem like it was more appetizing and had more with it (including I think sour cream, which was not provided at all). My husband had clam chowder and lobster cakes. He said the chowder was pretty standard and the lobster cakes were mostly potato. read more

This location is in the heart of OOB and offers amazing cocktails and local beers. Parking may be a challenge, so arrive early and bring cash to pay parking attendants. The food overall is a 7.5 out of 10. The tacos are also something I suggest, along with their fried chicken! We had the fish tacos which were flavorful. Living in or visiting Maine, one should enjoy some lobster or oysters! We enjoyed some oysters with a good bottle of wine. One item on the menu we felt should had been sent back and taken off the menu was the calamari. It was bland, rubbery, drenched in balsamic glaze and served in a soggy salad. Avoiding this item may make your dining experience more enjoyable. We plan to return and love that our kids enjoy the outdoor activities and music. read more

Fun menu with a solid variety of food and cocktail options. I have tried the fried haddock sandwich, shrimp tacos, nachos and an few other choices and have yet to be disappointed. Very mediocre for the price. 20 bucks for a burger and chips is ridiculous. Plus they were just a bag of cape code chips, not even house made! It's sad when the best part of the meal is the pickle served on the side. However, the food was at least decently cooked and the blackend haddock sandwich was well made.. Food great! Service even better, considering how busy the restaurant whole place was. Ambiance was very nice, except the music was way too loud. Maybe I'm just getting too old, lived my younger days listening to loud music & now have trouble hearing! I don't like yelling so I can be heard. After waiting for a bit, we found a table on the side which solved the problem. You just have to be proactive. Very difficult finding a table even on a Monday night in August (as expected). Nice little place not far from the pier. Outdoor seating was enjoyable. The lobster BLT was a two hander with generous amounts of lobster and bacon. The half jerk chicken took a bit as they had just opened, but was worth the wait. read more

Our waiter was personable and prompt. However my dish was the shrimp tacos and had more stuff in it than shrimp, so I just ate the shrimp.
