Been to sunset grill a few times and it's a pretty solid brunch place. They have a good amount of savory options. I got their new Mexican omelette which was pretty tasty. The potatoes were decent but I wished they were crispier. The rye toast was a good side. But I didn't like that their guac was not fresh, you can tell it's from a premade bottle and tasted artificial. Service was fine. I also feel like to portion sizes have decreased in the last year. My niece had their avocado toast which was so small this time with barely any toppings. And even my omelette had only 2-3 pieces of jalapeños in it. Relatively cost effective place to grab food in Niagara on the Lake. It opens at 7 AM and has indoor and outdoor seating. We went around 9 AM and there was still plenty of open seats inside. (The outside probably filled up faster) Our waitress was really nice. She humored our baby reaching often sticky fingers towards her. I got the yogurt with fruit which was a huge portion size and a side of peameal bacon. I wish the granola that accompanied the yogurt was a bit bigger in portion size but it was nice that it was on the side since granola can get soggy very quickly. I was impressed that my husband's waffles came with an individual sized glass container of maple syrup. He liked it so much he bought one to purchase as a souvenir. I didn't check out the washroom so I can't comment on that or whether it has a baby changing room. I just wish it closed later (rather than at 4 pm) since it's generally much cheaper than other places in NOTL. We hope to return for breakfast here before our trip is over. read more

The first Sunset Grille I visited was in Toronto and, as a visitor to Canada, I didn't realize that it was a chain at first. It was very odd to see a chain restaurant on Queen Street in NOTL... but there is a reason that restaurants become chains and, with street seating readily available, it really satisfied our urge for a basic breakfast. We were seated quickly in the streetside dining area by a very pleasant hostess and our beverage order was taken and filled quickly. Likewise our breakfast order was taken and served promptly, with a smile and some kind words from the server. As I said before, we were looking for a basic breakfast. I had blueberry pancakes which were fluffy and delicious... Berries in the batter, not pie filling on top which is good, but also a little blech. My wife (vegetarian) had southwest vegan hash... home fries with peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and guacamole. I tried them and was actually a little jealous. We ordered two coffees and breakfast dishes: an omelette and the sunset breakfast plate with eggs and pancakes. Our coffee mug had old, dried lipstick on the rim. The toast that came with my omelette had mold on it. The waitress was not phased by either issue and acted like it was a normal occurrence. We were not offered any discount for these concerns, and paid full price for everything. Both meals were basic and bland, nothing special whatsoever. Niagara On The Lake is a beautiful town with loads of eateries plus views to offer. You are better off elsewhere for a breakfast or lunch than sunset grill. While my experience may be poorer than others, in general I'd pick a less corporate location in a community relying on tourism to thrive. As for the food, all sunset grill locations are pretty generic. My potatoes were barely cooked and my omelette was not hot, rather luke warm. I'd say all drink and food options are similar to other locations, it doesn't differentiate. Food was served quickly. Service was terrible, the diner was half empty and we were told to wait outside only to be told to step back inside to be seated. It almost felt like a power trip from the hostess to boss people around. Workers could use a smile, they either look depressed dealing with people or gossiping behind the register. Not to mention, a place like Niagara needs time, it's not a big city and we were way too rushed to finish quickly so the next suckers can enjoy a 30 minute or less meal. I'd like to point out no cook had a beard net or hair net on, they are wearing hats but with an open kitchen and experience in the food industry, this is not okay. A beard hair could easily fall into anyones food, it suits the ant traps placed around the building too :) Do not go here, I made the mistake so you don't have too. read more

I had a couple (3) eggs with peameal bacon, something we can't get in the US. Not sure where peameal bacon comes from because it seems like ham to me. Very nice and tender but still, ham... and very good. My wife had a couple eggs with bacon and some pancakes. Also very good, but just too much food, at least for me. I know my wife likes bacon and eggs with some pancakes, but I don't get the attraction. Then again, I'm not a big fan of pancakes period. They're ok, but just ok. Since it was the beginning of the week we didn't have to wait. They just sat us down. There were 4 of us. Starting off with great coffee. The others ordered the usual. I prefer Eggs Benedict . They had a special during this time of review. Once in a while they serve crab cake Benedict. The crab cakes they said were real crab, not that imitation one. Oh yes it was real crab. The service is great... the food... run! My husband and I went for breakfast as we usually go to this chain, however, this location is horrible. Let me start by saying my husband eats EVERYTHING and rarely complains... he was so grossed out by the food here he couldn't eat it and we left. He got the egg sunset, the hollandaise was completley broken and the homefries weren't even slightly cooked. Two of us stopped here for breakfast on a Monday morning and were delighted that we did. The setting is clean and cozy, and the service friendly and helpful. Coffee was refilled promptly, and the bowl of little containers to lighten it contained both cream and 2% milk. Nice! I had the organic yogurt with strawberries and granola. I came here for breakfast with a colleague and it was the only thing open on a Friday morning at 10am around the neighbourhood. We both ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict (they have a different name for this on the menu) and it was good. I usually order eggs benedict at breakfast restaurants and usually am disappointed as I have high expectations after going to Steve's restaurant in Thornhill several times. Although this isn't really comparable, it's better than average places. They also give you three poached eggs rather than two. The dish was $14.99, which is slightly more expensive than Toronto prices, but then again, it's a touristy area plus they give an extra egg. Service was good and friendly. Went here for breakfast around 10am, we were seated right away. I ordered the vegan hash with a egg on the side. I am not vegan, I just wanted a healthy vegetable filled breakfast. What was advertised was a hash made with potatoes, peppers, onions, and mushrooms, with a side of tomato's and guacamole. What I got was a plate full of potatoes (I'd estimate about 3-4 potatoes total) with a scattering of raw onions and peppers on top, the mushrooms were cooked. The proportions were way off, the only thing running through my head the entire time was "is this what people think vegans eat?". It was clear that the potatoes were cooked in large batches first and then the veggies were lightly tossed in separately. Overall the only negative thing I'm reviewing was this specific dish. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal and the people around us seemed happy as well. The servers were friendly and the establishment was clean.
