I still love Sunset Market. It's become a summer tradition for us. Every summer we go at least once. It's super easy to get there on the sprinter- don't even bother trying to drive down there and find parking. It's a total madhouse. There's something for everyone here. Crafts, jewelry, even a psychic reader.... A lot of people confuse this with the Farmer's Market- that's on Thursday morning. I haven't been there in years! This is called Sunset Market because it's in the evening! We've been there so many times that we know where out favorite food stands are. My oldest son loves the birria mac and cheese tacos while my youngest son loves a certain french fry stand. My partner and I love finding new food stands and trying them. They're often overlooked...and that's a shame! There's a fun kiddo area if you're bringing little ones- I've seen bounce houses there. Pro-tip- there's a line of portable restrooms by the kid bounce house section. There's also live music with local bands and a few high tops there. They go very quickly. Lots of people just grab a seat on the curb and eat. Every year, it get more and more crowded- people, strollers, dogs...it's nearly impossible to walk down certain food heavy streets to see what's down there. So, we try to time our trips to arrive as soon as the market starts and then leave when the crowds really start flowing in. And every year, it gets more and more expensive...so be prepared. FAVORITE FARMERS MARKET (5 stars) Been to all of the farmers market, from Otay Ranch/Chula Vista to Oceanside and in-between.... this one is my favorites in San Diego county. How have I missed a review on this place when I have came here many times since 2017?! I love Oceanside. Super sleepy small beach city, chill and friendly people, and an overall good vibe. Their farmers market is around their Civic Center - blocking off several blocks for vendors. YES, they barricade off their roads well for the event. Metal protection blockers or cars using to block the entrance points. Ample police policing the area. Overall, everyone feels extremely safe. Vendors are a mix of food and retail. Independent performers spring up at the corners (no Joe Dreamz corny-ness like you see in SD). Not too busy but can pick up in later hours when everyone gets off. The food vendors are different than the ones I see at other farmers market which gives an opportunity to try new eats. There are a few areas with tables but not many and those get taken quickly. I wish they would set up more tables or seats as most of the vendors at this farmers market are food booths. I overall like the vibe. Yup! Will be back as usual. read more

This long standing event is getting bigger and bigger. Most locals who live walking distance or very nearby know the best tricks of the trade....its to go early before the larger crowds show up! Parking is a challenge downtown on Thursday. I tend to like the farmers market a bit more than the sunset market. This last visit I had a strained ankle and had to wear my support brace so walking around was a challenge. I'd say the crowd is a pro and a con equally. It's great for the food and merch venue pop-up businesses but when people clearly see you and they bump into you anyway. This makes me feel unsafe and like they are doing this "accidentally on purpose" Especially when these people don't have any purchases in their hands. There is so much to see and experience here it can make you feel enticed, awestruck, and overwhelmed all at the same time. Come hungry as there are food options from all around the world! Summary: Worth Going If you want to see a large variety of food for a night market this is the place to go. Being a foodie the only regret is that I don't have enough space in my tummy to try all the different food. From raw oysters to legit BBQ brisket I was in food heaven. This place does get crowded so recommend coming early as possible. Some favorites was banana bread pudding, brisket, and skewers of picanha. This is a MASSIVE farmers market that is from 5 to 9 every Thursday. It closes down multiple streets to accommodate the sheer volume of vendors and booths. It takes a solid 15 minutes just to walk from one end to the other. There is everything from foodstuffs to dog treats to clothing to chiropractic. Just remember to bring your bug spray and comfortable shoes. The location is fairly close to the beach, and the balmy ocean breeze is perfect even later into the evening. You might need a light jacket, but I run cooler and was very comfortable with pants and a loose shirt. Fair warning: There are a LOT of people. There are crowds everywhere, and it can be difficult to maneuver yourself through the throngs of people. If you have sensory issues of any kind, bring noise canceling headphones. It can get noisy, crowded, and very busy with long lines for certain booths. I've come here twice now, and I'm super happy! They do rotate some of the booths, so I didn't see some that I had visited the first time. So if you're on the fence about trying certain foods, I'd do it if you won't be back soon! Oh wow! This is like a street fair/farmers market/foodpalooza galore! A lot of food and a lot of tents with trinkets- and live music! This round we tried the Belgian fries, bulgogi dumplings and garlic noodles and warm cookie with ice cream. There was a huge variety of different cuisines so excited to try some new things next time. We also really enjoyed eating our dessert next to the singer Vic Moraga- it was a quieter (but still busy) end of the row next to where we scored a close parking spot. We have driven to O'side to attend the Sunset Market twice and enjoyed it both times. I will start with parking - we did not waste our time trying to park in the neighborhood, as parking is limited. We went straight to the city parking structure next to (NOT the parking lot of) the transit center and easily found parking; and it is FREE. It is maybe a 5 minute walk at the most. As for the venue - it was crowded both times with plenty of locals hitting it up. There is a wide variety of vendors, both farmer's market types and miscellaneous seller types. And let's not forget the food vendors, who provide a wide variety of eats for those who want to indulge. Came here with my husband for the first time tonight. I wish the jewelry, clothing, and art was authentic enough to buy. It Is all fake Amazon bulk ordered items that are $5-10 or even $30 marked up. A lot of the booth owners verbally communicated that they were sick of people saying "oh wow I like that" and not buying anything. Which really didn't make me want to buy anything. Rarely any true artist here which broke my heart. The most authentic things were way out price range for the typical consumer. I give 3 stars because I didn't explore the food aspect of the market and hope to next time. Giving room for growth. This is my low-key date night place... it's dog friendly, there's live music, food and craft booths, and lots of people-watching. My favorite booth is the Philly cheesesteak one, and I've been eating my way through the various unique dessert booths (cannoli, beignets, etc). The prices are getting so high here that they rival dining at sit-down places, and that's unfortunate especially because so many choices are rather bland: tater tot booth, basic cookies, bao buns, to name a few. I feel safe as there's a police presence; though we tend to come at opening time and not when it's dark. Overall, this is probably more fun for tourists and kids, but I live so close that it's become a favorite place of mine. read more

OH BOY! Came here one Thursday evening and was way overwhelmed. I figured it would be a pretty big event but wasn't prepared for a giant crowd and a chaotic circus atmosphere and so many vendors that it was tough to make a choice of what to eat if you had to decide on dinner from only one place. There was a band playing that night - School Of Rock - playing lots of classic rock standards that were much older than they seemed to be. There really wasn't much as far as tables and places to sit down that could accommodate a crowd like this but anywhere there was a curb was a good enough place to sit and eat. Ended up getting pierogies and stuffed cabbage from a Polish vendor called Taste Of Poland. Parking was a bit of a challenge - there's free parking in a P5 public parking structure near the Oceanside Transportation Center but everyone else also knows that so I had to circle a few times on the top floor until I was lucky enough to catch someone leaving. Will probably do it again sometime soon. This is not actually the same thing as the Oceanside Farmers Market - that happens earlier in the day on Thursdays - this is more a night market. You also might want to check their website before going if you're coming from further away - they have cancelled before due to weather. read more

There is a free parking garage a block or two away but not many accessible spots available there, so no matter where you park to come here, you will have to travel a good distance to get to the market. At the market there are almost no places to sit down or tables to eat at if you need, and it was packed shoulder to shoulder. Experience: I used to come to this market every Thursday Pre-COVID and yesterday was my first day back since COVID. It was way too packed and almost no one was wearing masks. They sell food and items here but the prices have raised a TON so shopping here is no cheaper than shopping at the vendor's regular store if they have one (not all the vendors do). I only bought one small item for my dog because everything else was expensive. I also bought tacos that were $30. Yikes. This market definitely isn't what it used to be. read more

Ive gone there for years and have loved it! After moving out of town and finally being back in time to visit the sunset market, we definitely had to pay a visit. Even invited family to join us. We all ate at my favorite food stand where they sell popusas and my favorite strawberry horchata... well we all contacted VGE afterwards. We have all been sick for days and my sister ended up having to pay a visit to the ER. I would not say to never visit but definitely work on cleanliness and making sure staff is all healthy enough to work because it has been an unbearable experience. read more

The Sunset Market in Oceanside is an absolute classic, it's been around for years and has really exploded in popularity over the years. What I mean by that is that you're almost bumping shoulder to shoulder with locals and tourists walking around. It can get incredibly busy. Lots of food vendors. Even though it was outdoors, I put my mask back on around the food trucks where it was most congested. We ate empanadas and boba but I would've loved to have tried at least six other places! This is what a market event should be like. Plenty of vendors, plethora of food options. Free parking Over by the theater and train station. The event is on pierview way over by the library, not at the pier. This event has probably 100 booths or more, music , food, snacks, desserts. There was every kind of food there to try and plenty of vegan stuff. $25 total for beignets $8, $7 caprese grilled cheese, $10 chicken pesto grilled cheese and tots and drink combo. It was very crowded and difficult to squeeze thru. Doesn't help with all the rude people stopping in the middle of the walk way to huddle, talk, and block everything. Same goes for the double wide baby strollers with kids or dogs in them. Open from 5-9 and I think it is year round. read more

I finally went here after a few years of not coming and man! It was worth it!! Got there around 6 p.m. with my mom and we went to the parking garage. It took at least seven minutes to get in the parking garage and park because there are just so many people. Also people are getting off at that time and whoever takes the train parts there or coming back to their car so people are waiting on parking spaces. Since there are so many people and get in and out of the parking garage is a little crazy but you have to have patience. We got there and I looked around for all the food places that I want to try. Before I went I looked on Yelp after pictures to see what other people were getting and wrote down what I wanted to try. As soon as we got there my mom told me she was hungry so we got her a Jamaican Fusion plate and a champagne kola soda! Is there off of the people located off of Oceanside Boulevard called One Love Jamaican restaurant I believe. She got a curry chicken plant with plantain and rice and I don't usually like Curry because of coconut milk but this is really good and you couldn't even taste like coconut milk. I looked all around to find the vendors that I want to go to I realize that most of the places that I want to go to or further down the street by the Boba place and Firewater Saloon. Down this way we have a lot of desserts and they also have the Original Thai Burger, Belgian fries, Tamale Place, and the Wow Wow Lemonade stand. The first thing that I try when I got there was a Fry's when the Belgian fries stand. It came with a garlic aioli sauce that was so delicious and the fries are fresh. There's a mini line but not too bad in the price I paid was about $5.50 for medium. The two guys were extremely nice and they move pretty quickly. I was going to get an Original Thai Burger but I didn't realize that the burger wasn't beef, it was pork, so I passed on that. I ended up getting a lobster roll from the Maine Wicked Lobster vendor. The girl there was super nice and the food was delicious! This cost $15 & for me, it was well worth it, but I'm not sure since I usually eat lobsters in buffets. We went to a Leroy's Sweet Dessert stand and he had 4-5 cakes, then cupcakes of those 4-5 cakes and he had pie! Sweet potato or more importantly. I've yet to try out, but it looked so good!! I didn't get to try everything that I wanted, but now I can scratch things off of my to try list and I will be back on another Thursday. What a great market! We go here at least once a month. There is such an eclectic diversity of food. We enjoy the Turkish food and the polish options. We usually buy some food and head over to the Stone garden tap room to eat as they allow you to bring food into the garden, and we order a beer from Stone. Our favorite is the hazy ipa. Parking is difficult but there is a free parking garage that if you show up between 5 pm to 5:30 pm, you can find a spot as workers leave for the day. After buying food, it was difficult to find chairs to sit but we were fortunate locate a few where the band was playing. This is such a fun and lively local event. Walk over to central downtown Oceanside to listen to live music and choose from plenty of vendors selling food. This is NOT a farmer's market. It's a weekly street fair and you can come here every week and be able to try something new. In addition to food, there a merch vendors and even "fix it now" stands for iPhones and jewelry.
