It was such a cool night market. TONS of amazing food from a variety of all different kinds of vendors. We tried pork buns from House of Bao and they were delicious. Good place to go for date nights or to just hang out with friends. Plenty of food vendors, but pretty pricey. Pretty much everything we ordered was between $8-13. They have Thai food, Vietnamese, Filipino, Jamaican, Tacos, Grilled Cheese, BBQ, Fries, Sushi, Oysters, and Desserts! My favorite so far are the Beignets. There's no actual chairs for you to sit and enjoy your food. But there's plenty of sidewalk space to sit down. Or you can take your food and walk while you eat. There were a few vendors selling clothes, jewelry, soap, candles, flowers, and home decor. You just need to walk around the whole thing to find them. Parking wasn't too bad, but then we arrived around 7:30. Keep in mind that the event is from 5:00-9:00 PM. So I would imagine parking to be difficult around sunset. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place any sooner!!! I've come here several times and have enjoyed walking around, trying different foods and listening to live music. The sunset market runs along Tremont street in Oceanside and makes a cross shape, covering the span of 2 blocks in each direction. They have SO MANY food options so it's best to come here hungry! Some of my favorites have been: Wow wow fresh lemonade Corn on the cob Vegan/GF baked goods El Veganito vegan Mexican food (hoping they come regulars) Anthem Vegan (yummy wraps) Chocolate covered strawberries (not vegan) Empanadas (only one vendor with a vegan option) Mangoldas Bitchin' Sauce (all vegan and dairy free) Rafikiz Foodz (Kenyan food with vegan options) Cheesecake in a cup (not vegan) Fresh juice (they usually have free samples) Cinnamon/sugar nuts (vegan) Fresh French fry/tater tot stands Bitchin' Sauce (made with almonds and completely vegan) And more!!!! I'm sure you'll find something to satisfy your palate. They also have several non food booths dedicated to selling clothes, jewelry, pet supplies, make-up/skincare, candles, bath salts and more! Shout out to the Hawaiian guy for the awesome scented bath salts!! It doesn't take long to walk around the whole market but likely you'll be stopping to look at menus, buy goodies and walk around. You'll need to either park on the street somewhere or a few blocks away at the parking structure located where the transit center is. There used to be a lot more parking available, but the city has been building like crazy and the parking lot where most people parked has been fenced up for construction. Other tips: Get your food and enjoy a beer at the Stone Company Store (since you can't drink alcohol in the market). Other restaurants in the area are open during the market so if your don't like anything, you can just walk into a place. There is heightened security for bars and they do card, so bring your IDs. Went here last week Thursday and found parking 2-3 blocks away luckily. We walked towards the area on the map and ended up right in the dessert area where many booths advertised their specialties. Mr. W and I wandered around a bit to gauge what was around before deciding what to eat. First pick - Classic BBQ Pork Burger from the Thai Burger Company. I expected it to be a crispy rice layering on the outside as buns but it was sticky rice instead. The filling was delicious as you would expect BBQ Pork to taste. However the experience holding the sticky rice was not as fun as we would take a bite of it and the rice stuck to your teeth. Definitely not what I expected. Probably would not be keen to go again. It was just rice and the filling - the rice not really helping as it was so soft and mushy. Second pick - Cassava Pie from the Brazilian Guys. This was quite the interesting prospect as it was hashbrown made in a pie maker (the one you could flip over and forth similar to a waffle maker). Though for cassava it was yuca instead of hashbrowns. We ordered the beef, banana and cheese just because it sounded unique. It took a while for the order as they had several other orders rolling. But I have to say, you must get it with the red sauce. It was a tasty delight, surprisingly very good with the banana. Unfortunately they were running low on the sauce - though we scoured quite a bit on ours. Very tasty and we definitely were up for trying it again if we were not so interesting in trying a few things around the market. Third pick and last pick - Chombard Creme brulee. Simple and tasty. Quick and easy. That's what they made it look as they toasted the top with the little flame. I never realized Creme brulee had different flavors til we got here. It was slight - but empowering taste after breaking off the top and then eating the insides of the Creme brulee. So soft and tasty - that we both polished it off. There were a lot of cute things all around, but there was just SO MUCH PEOPLE. Almost like a mini-version of the Del Mar Fair. So surprised that they do this every Thursday. Majority of stalls were food but there are also a few that sell clothing, jewelry, and other products. I am not much of a shopper, so I usually browse. A fan mainly because of the Brazilian guys stall and the Creme brulee. For seating, you basically sit on the street if you don't see any seating available. read more

It's the worst place you can be on a Thursday summer night. Hot, EXTREMELY CROWDED, overpriced mediocre food with long waits, and nowhere to eat your food let alone sitting. Also you risk yourself getting run over by gigantic strollers. Seriously, strollers especially the double ones should be banned in crowded places. It's a nuisance and a hazard to people. If you can't get someone to watch your twins, a busy night market is the last place you should think of going. I always have fond memories of the Sunset Market, but I forgot every time I was here it was either early right when they opened or in the winter time. $3 for a mediocre churro? Lobster tacos after a 15 minute line and a 15 minute wait for your food and each cost more than $4 apiece? Lines lines lines, people people people, trash trash trash, everywhere. Even if this place has the most amazing food, but coming here at the wrong time would ruin your experience. Did I also mention the parking structure was COMPLETELY FULL? Good luck on finding a spot. Never ever coming back here in the summer unless I'm there right at 5pm and leaving by 6. Winter I'll come here more often, when there is no 15-20 minute wait for food. read more

What luck! I stumbled upon this street fair on the way back to my hotel from the beach. What a fabulous time! Here are some tips: 1. Consider parking to the east of the fair. The lots and roads west of the fair tend to be slammed! So if you don't mind walking two city blocks, chances are you will find parking quicker and easier. 2. I gathered that the fair was designed around food. Fast before coming. Seriously! They had Chinese dishes, sushi rolls, Jamaican meals, Maine lobster, street tacos, BBQ, funnel cake, chocolate treats, cookies, popcorn -- enough food to plan out a snack, an appetizer, entree and then dessert. There was even a mini-farmer's market. 3. Bring the kids. This event is VERY family friend. They even had ponies for rides and street performers singing and dancing. People also brought their dogs. Dogs are allowed, so long as they are on a leash and you be sure to pick up after them. 4. Bring cash. Holiday season is coming, so this may well be the hot spot for buying gifts. You can find all kinds of trinkets here. Beach clothing, handbacks, sunglasses, soaps, perfumes, jewelry, food items like hot sauce and hops kits. All kinds of stuff. ...except a sarong thong. Didn't find that one. 5. Be sure to recycle. I appreciated this so much. You will find recycling bins all over the place! And the MC at the main stage kept reminding people to recycle as much as they good during the fair. Nice! read more

Came here after going to Legoland! I do have to say this was the highlight of date night. I love how there was a variety of food to pick from! However because there was SO much food, I didn't know what to eat. I just love how we are able to support small business. The only down side is the parking situation. However if you just walk a block or two, there will be plenty of street parking, therefore it is no big deal. I enjoyed seeing all the different food vendors, live performers and different merchandise. There isn't much table for you to sit on however most of the food are finger food, therefore you don't really need to sit down. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a spot for date night! :) read more

Taking a leisurely stroll throughout Downtown Oceanside and BAM! Farmer's Market! It always seems I forget about the market unless I happen to be in the area Thursday night. Live band, food vendors, small shops and looks like your typical Farmer's Market. I love the candied nuts and homemade cinnamon rolls as those are my favorite there. I bought Filipino food and $8 seemed like a great price, but I was very disappointed at how bad it was. I threw 90% of my food away, I couldn't even eat it. All I really wanted was lumpia, but it's best to get there right as the market opens before it runs out and so it's fresh as well. There's nothing special about this Farmer's Market. I wish they had more fruits and vegetables available for purchase since the options are limited and for that reason is why I buy my vegetables and herbs somewhere else. It's good to go if you want local food and enjoy all the little shops. read more

I've been to the Sunset Market a few times. It's a fun time! I also sent my sister here one time who's from out of town and her and her family enjoyed it as well. I love all the food vendors! There are other types of vendors there too, clothes, jewelry, gifts and knickknacks. One of Southern California's favorites: Sunset Market in Oceanside, California. Thursday nights from 5pm-9pm, the heart of Oceanside is filled with lots of tents consisting of different venders for everyone: homemade soy candles, clothes, cool crafty items, desserts, & a variety of food ranging from the biggest meat lover to the most dedicated vegan. Trust me, this places is continually swarmed. There's definitely no other way to describe how busy & popular this market is. From your noisy group of teenagers, dog lovers, couples (old & new), & baby strollers - you'll see it all. Parking gets ridiculous when 6-7pm rolls around. Your best bet is the parking garages but even those can be a headache & a half. But, when the sun goes down - the market looks spectacular! There's string lights that glide over the tents while the gleaming light subtly accents the beautiful Southern California palm trees. It's really possible that these food vendors serve wonderful plates in their brick and mortar businesses. But this whole place is just gross. Masses of people stepping over each other for the best of mediocrity. The entire place smells of rancid fryer grease. Most offerings are bland shadows of what the advertise. People milling around are rude at best, with many drunken examples of toxic masculinity looking for any reason to start a fight. Dogs are wandering around off leash. This farmer's market in Oceanside sure blows the one in Mira Mesa away by a mile and a half. The crowds and shops reminded me of a much smaller version of the San Diego County Fair, minus the rides. We were here visiting a friend of ours in the area who hadn't been here before. I wish I had some extra cash on hand, as there were plenty of things I wanted to sample. AMAZING Farmer's Market! Came here for the first time while on a Stateside vacation to Oceanside, CA. We also went to the daytime one which was smaller and got a brochure to come back in the evening for the Sunset one! Blocks and blocks of goodness and live music! You'll find delicious ethnic treats and down home fare like deep fried macaroni and cheese! That's right - I said deep fried macaroni and cheese! The food is phenomenal! Thai food and stuffed hashbrowns were gluten free and they had two booths dedicated to gluten free desserts. Everything was well labeled and made it easy. The coconut pancakes were delicious at the Thai food booth and I loved the stuffed hashbrowns made with yucca, ground beef mozzarella and banana. Amazing! I love this place. I moved to Oceanside about 7 months ago and naturally took to Yelp for recommendations. This place is a great stop to get to know your community. A lot of local businesses and there's even a stand with flyers on things to do in O'side. The ambiance is lovely, lots of people listening to live music, bounce houses, and trampolines for the kiddos. There's something for everyone to enjoy! My food recommendations: 1st and most importantly, Loaded fries from Deeyas. These fries are loaded with cheese, bacon, and we personally add pork belly and it makes the best combo! They have a replica recipe for the in n out sauce & Chick-fil-A sauce that knocks these fries out of the park! They're located in front of the romantix & bubble tea store. Bomb! A must try! Their wanton nachos are equally amazing!. I also recommend the Tamales. Chicken in green sauce is my favorite. Corn tamales are great too! The Philly Cheesesteaks near the center of the fair are some of the best I've ever had. Flavors just melt together. The mexican food stand next door has the best corn in a cup! So good. There is one place I do not recommend. The stand that sells funnel cakes. The cashier was rude and did not look like she wanted to be there at all. I can look past bad service, afterall I'm mostly there for the food. But my funnel cake was raw inside. Bleh! Twice now (yes, I tried it again). Lesson learned, no worries.. there are so many good dessert places to try here. The macaroon stand and the cheesecake in a cup are delicious! Thank you for the sunset Marketplace thank you for opening up the streets of the city so that people can come from far and wide and enjoy the international cuisine and all the different sites and sounds of downtown Oceanside. It truly takes a vision of the city council members to continue this wonderful attraction that is cherished by so many in the City of Oceanside and from all the nearby cities. It's Thursday night no need to cook dinner we're heading down to the sunset Marketplace and I know we will find any number of our favorite dishes. There's so much to do so much to enjoy whether you want sushi, crepes, African cuisine, Indian cuisine, Greek cuisine or any of the multitude of other International dining experiences you will find it at the Oceanside Marketplace. Street fairs/ markets are lots of fun. & my partner in crime is a huge fan of such pop-up bazaars. Which is why she suggested Oceanside's Sunset Market. Sure, I was game. More importantly, I was hungry too. We found street parking fairly quickly right by City Hall. After the short walk over, we were immediately confronted with a vexing decision to make. What to eat? So many choices. Like, seriously, soooooo many choices. We made a quick survey up & down each row of stands. & the food options became even more bewildering. To help us think it over, & momentarily quiet our rumbling stomachs, we grabbed some Elote while we looked for the next thing to eat. Which was a process that didn't stop with the next or the 1 after that. Because along with all the glorious variety of foods available, prices for just about everything was very reasonable to downright cheap. Not a lot of chichi gourmet truck pricing here. Come hungry. Your stomach will thank you. That's how we did it. We tried valiantly to eat our way through Oceanside's Sunset Market. We didn't stand a chance. I used to really love the Sunset Market, but now it's just gotten bad. This last time I went with my family I just finally came to the realization that it's basically food vendors. The other vendors that are there let's just say the quality of the product is kind of lacking. We walked around for a good 30- 45 minutes and realized there is probably like 6 vendors that are not food. So if you're looking for somewhere to eat on a Thursday night I do recommend this place. Don't expect much as a lot of it's all rushed, and or expect to get it at a decent time. You await almost 20 minutes for most meals, but it's not too shabby. I do recommend this place again like I said if you're looking for somewhere to eat. However, if you're looking for somewhere to do a little shopping I would probably skip it. I feel like a lot of the vendors that are there selling stuff are like the snake oil salesman. read more

You have to pay for parking, it's really crowded, but this is the best food we've had in Oceanside so far. Food and desserts are pretty overpriced ($10 for horchata ) but everything tasted great (we had adobada tacos, California burrito, el lote) and something about walking around eating made this experience enjoyable. The Sunset Market also offers an array of amenities: clothing, services, gifts, food, dessert, live music, and drinks. It's located a 10minute walk from the Oceanside Pier so you can go after a day at the beach or pick up food and eat it while watching the waves. The food is really great and there's a large variety of ethnicities represented: Vietnamese, Mediterranean, Salvadorian, Ghanaian, Hawaiian, Japanese, etc. We ordered from this place and the meat was delicious! We ordered a quesadilla and although the tortilla was thick it was still good. I'll probably order something else next time though. One of the highlights in Oceanside. Every Thursday evening hundreds of vendors set up between PCH and the pier to sell their goods. Not just food, but also clothing and decor, the food is what to come for. They have every cuisine you can imagine, sweet and savory. The vendors are great, very friendly and into their products, many offer samples. Prices are fair and parking is pretty easy too and free which is great for such a large event. No way to eat all the tasty things on one trip unless you come with a group. Best is to split it up into a few evening strolls as we did. The Sunset Market (night-time) has always been a very fun experience, but over the years the crowd has gotten bigger and bigger, to the point it's a little too congested to actually enjoy. People are always either bumping into you, stepping on you or stepping over you. And what makes the experience is being able to taste-test, check out different booths, listen to some good music and meet new people, but it's just too crowded lately. But regardless, it's always fun to see what new restaurants have added booths, what new activities have been included and what music is going to be played. With that, as lovely as the music scene is, variety would be nice, as far as the talent goes. Good music every time, but a little spice never hurt anyone. If you do not like crowds this is not the place for you. This market is crazy busy and good luck finding parking. There are tons of food, tons of little knick knacks and tons of dogs. Oh yeah on that note please ask first before you start petting someone's dog. I don't come here a lot because I really can't find anywhere to park by the time I get down here. When I do come down here a must for me is going to Leroy's Sweet Potato Shack for key lime cake. I think it is pretty fun to hangout with people from Oside. read more
