    The outdoor space

Fun place to enjoy a glass of wine with snacks and outdoor activities. Nice for kids and dogs as well (outdoor games, hiking trails, handmade gift pop-ups).

Pulling up was like driving into someone else's backyard at first. But don't let that sway you, this is a marvelous gem of a winery. Their Red Table wine is like a milder Cab with a clean finish, enough to eat with a meal or sipping. I'm not into white but the Gertrude wasn't sweet at all, in fact all of their wines are quite dry, even their Rose. We've been many CT wineries, with Hopkins and Stonington Vineyards being the best, the wine quality approaches what these more established places deliver. The venue is intimate, it's small, ie, 50-60 people would fill up most of the seating in the barn/deck, but there an outside seating area adjacent that peeps walk past and aren't aware of. There were maybe 25 people there and it was fine. Parking could be tight if busy, but I suspect very few people know of this place. Owners were very nice, and love talking about their wines. Jim especially. Note no food, other than a cheese box which was good, but you can bring your own... I'd give it 5 stars but felt the flight serving pour was a bit small. Def on our list to visit again.

I've never had a bad meal, and the service is always spot-on, with a thoughtful system that lets you signal when you need something without ever feeling rushed or overlooked. Our day started with a Chinese tea ceremony in the barn and then a catered lunch. About 6:30pm, the ceremony with a live music started followed by passed hors d'oeuvre, fresh oysters, and wood fired pizza. The wood fired pizza was very delicious and I enjoyed the blackened shrimp and the arancini. I tried the cider and the rosé, but they were too dry for my taste. Then at 7:45pm, we went into the reception pavilion. The menu consisted of a salad as first course, a duet plate of salmon and beef short rib for entree, and dessert. The summer citrus salmon with the multi grain pilaf was very good. After first dance, father and daughter dance, mother and son dance, and speeches, the DJ told us to step outside. After a few minutes, the sky exploded with light. It was a beautiful fireworks display from the hillside. The bathrooms were stocked with essentials in the toiletry baskets. Red Maple Vineyard offers a rustic barn and reception pavilion, massive green grounds, and a beautiful garden.

White Silo Farm & Winery is a rustic farm, vineyard & winery that opened in Sherman, Connecticut in…read more2000. It was opened by the Gorman family, including Ralph and his son Eric. Ralph has a degree in engineering and had previously worked as an engineer, a chemistry teacher, a physics professor and a consultant. He grew bored, wanted to try something different, so in 1985 he decided to purchase a 17-acre parcel of farmland in Sherman that had previously been part of Upland Pastures dairy farm. The Gorman family intended to continue the farming tradition and preserve the land for generations to come. They planted crops of raspberries, blackberries and rhubarb. The circa 1780 dairy barn and silo were completely renovated and converted into a tasting room and production area. By 2000, the winery opened to the public. The initial wines made available were fruit (non-grape) wines, crafted from their own farm-grown fruit. The Gorman family planted their first grape vineyard in 2010 and additional grapevines were planted in 2016. My wife and I visited White Silo this past weekend. To celebrate my wife's birthday, I took her for a drive in Western Connecticut to see the fall foliage and explore some wineries. This was our first visit to White Silo and it was our first stop of the day. The property was lovely and the interior of the barn was very charming. We decided to order some wine flights so we could sample several of the winery's offerings. Between the two of us, we sampled their "Upland Pastures White", "Rhubarb", "Sparkling Red Raspberry", "Upland Pastures Red", "Farm White", "Upland Pastures Rosé", "Blackberry Sangria", and their "Apple Cider". We decided to purchase bottles of our two favorites (the "Sparkling Red Raspberry" and the "Apple Cider") to take home. White Silo also offers light food options as well. We shared the winery's "Hummus Plate" and "Gourmet Boxed Lunch" while we enjoyed our flights. The boxed lunch, which changes seasonally, included a turkey sandwich made with arugula and White Silo mustard, quinoa salad, a mini cheese plate, mixed nuts, and a chocolate turtle bar. It was the perfect amount of food to enjoy with our wine samples. Overall we had a very relaxing experience at White Silo, complete with a live musician. We highly recommend White Silo to visitors traveling through this quiet part of the state. We hope to be back!
