    The bottling room

Attempted to go to the Made in CT fair this past weekend and it ended up raining. Saw signs for this Winery and thought we'd give it a try. As an avid "wine snob" I was a tad skeptical as we pulled up to a residential house and saw hand written signs "Winery in back". But since it was raining figured why not. This is a very small vineyard and the tasting and bottling room is in the basement of the house. We were pleasantly greeted at the "tasting" desk and for $11 for 5 wines which included the glass (which is stemless and much bigger in capacity than some of the other well known CT wineries) we were pleasantly surprised. All of their wines offer a really cool Christmas theme (since they are located in Bethlehem) and was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the wine. This is by no means a big operation like a SMV or Chammard or Stonington but their tasting pour was much larger that the other ones in CT. We were offered cheese and crackers in the bottling room and the owner was filling bottles as he chatted with us. It was a very pleasant, small town personal experience. Nice quality wines!

Different experience. Staff is wonderful. Very friendly and inviting. The wines are good and most come from estate grown grapes.

This was a unique experience for me arriving at a home and going around back to the basement under the deck.

Pulling up was like driving into someone else's backyard at first. But don't let that sway you, this is a marvelous gem of a winery. Their Red Table wine is like a milder Cab with a clean finish, enough to eat with a meal or sipping. I'm not into white but the Gertrude wasn't sweet at all, in fact all of their wines are quite dry, even their Rose. We've been many CT wineries, with Hopkins and Stonington Vineyards being the best, the wine quality approaches what these more established places deliver. The venue is intimate, it's small, ie, 50-60 people would fill up most of the seating in the barn/deck, but there an outside seating area adjacent that peeps walk past and aren't aware of. There were maybe 25 people there and it was fine. Parking could be tight if busy, but I suspect very few people know of this place. Owners were very nice, and love talking about their wines. Jim especially. Note no food, other than a cheese box which was good, but you can bring your own... I'd give it 5 stars but felt the flight serving pour was a bit small. Def on our list to visit again.

Have you ever wondered what a sardine feels like? Or how to really box out in a way never required…read moreby basketball? That is what I remember about the Connecticut Wine Festival. The winery employees who come out need commendations, because it is just a mob of people waiting for free pours. It's a great idea and a good way for wineries on one side of the state to gain an audience on the other, but the design needs work. There needs to be a way to move some of the large groups out of the way so other people can get a pour. I had one pour (not tasting, one pour of wine) when I attended. Maybe in a few years it will be worth a try again. On the plus side, if you're doing the Wine Passport, you do NOT need to buy a ticket to get the stamp. Just ask at the gate for a stamp, get it done and get on your way. The rules of the Passport program do not require a purchase to get a stamp.

What a nice day we had for this festival!!…read more Parking was nice and close right across the street and getting inside the festival was quick too. All the volunteers were very sweet. Lots of venders and a good variety of food trucks also. The amount of vineyard that were there too was really impressive! We sampled SO many wines and got some extra freebies from them also. Most of the wine vendors were nice and let us double sample to see if we wanted to buy a bottle or not but then there was a few ass holes who denied us and straight up lost our business because of that. Otherwise it was a lot of fun and I'd love to go back next year!
