A wide variety of bottles of wines to choose from if you enjoy your tasting and there are also other wines by the bottles that were not available in the tasting menu. Our bartender was friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines offered. Feel free to ask for the dessert wine if you prefer something on the sweeter side. I enjoy Jerram Winery every time I go. It is a little isolated, but just down the road is the cute town of New Hartford. The winery itself must be beautiful in the sun, although in the several visits I've had it happened to be overcast and rainy. Parking can be a little tricky on a busy day, but there is space to be had. The interior of the tasting room is warm with fun art on the walls, and the baristas are always friendly and eager to discuss their wines. Personally, my favorite is the Aurora - not only is the bottle beautiful (taste with the eyes first), but the wine itself is fruity and not too sweet or dry. So, my husband and I visited Jerram for my birthday a few days ago. We visited over 20 years ago and had a great experience. We noticed some updates and a nice area with seating and we were excited because our intention was to grab a flight of different wines and sit outside and enjoy the picnic lunch we had packed. We were told they only do tastings because flights are too cost prohibitive because they'd have to wash all the glasses. Okay. So we did a tasting. 3 whites. 3 reds. Okay. Then the incessant right wing political yammering went on for over an hour! The 23-year old kid (he told us his age several times) talked about LGBTQ, abortion, national debt, taxes, healthcare, Nancy Pelosi, you name it. I told him repeatedly that I am about the farthest from conservative that you'll probably get in New Hartford and he just would not shut up. I expressed my views on abortion, politicians, we tried to change the subject. Nothing worked. He would just preface everything he said with "I don't know what side you're on but..." or "I don't like to get political but..." He also kept telling us how smart and well-read he is compared to other people he knows, namely friends and family. His constant spewing monopolized our whole time there and we never got a chance to have our picnic because he never stopped talking. I'm all for friendly service but this guy talked just to hear himself talk. And does not know how to read the room. Needless to say, we tried the wine and would have bought a case of two but I refused to give him another dime of our money. We paid for our tasting, left, drove to local brewery, and had our picnic in peace. read more

I stopped in here on a Sunday when they opened at 11am to enjoy a nice day outside with some good wine. There were plenty of tables outside and parking available to allow people to space themselves out well. The person inside doing tastings and selling the wine was very knowledgeable and friendly. He had great recommendations for dry red wine and even gave a small taste before we bought a bottle. The space was cute and clearly a well run family business. Ok you must consider that I'm reviewing this as a Connecticut winery. Have a had better Italian, French, and California wines?Yes, but the atmosphere here was great. It's such a cute place, and I really enjoyed my tasting. We visited three different wineries on this particular day, and I think this one was probably my favorite overall. This was our first stop on our Connecticut winery day tour (special thanks to my friend's BF for chauffeuring us around for the day). I knew I was going to love it pulling up. You drive down a long driveway through the vineyards, it's beautiful, and park next to a barn in a gravel lot. Outside in the lawn are large trees for shade with picnic tables and rocking chairs. Since this was our first stop of the day we didn't really take advantage of the outdoor area, but it was pretty I would consider making it your last stop and bringing some snacks to enjoy a bottle under the trees. We entered the winery and were greeted, and they explained a tasting would be $7, include five samples, and you get to keep the glass. An amazing deal in my opinion. Their credit card minimum is $10, so if you need to use a card bring a friend, or plan on buying something else as well. This particular day the tasting featured: *white frost: chardonnay grapes, with a hint of oak...I'm not much of a chardonnay fan, and I liked this better than a lot of the more expensive ones I've tried that people rave about *gentle shepard: another white, pretty good, but I'm more on a red kick lately *aurora: white, this one was a little too sweet for me *highland reserve: yesss, reds...I think I enjoyed this one the most. It was most similar to what I am used to drinking *marechal foch: a red with a hint of cherry at the end...good but a little on the sweet side for me *nor'easter: this seems to be a favorite here, but it was definitely too sweet for me Ok I know my wine comments actually aren't that glowing, but this review is for the winery as a whole, and I just loved it here, and that's what tastings are for, deciding what you like and what you don't. If we didn't have a few wineries ahead of us still I would have purchased a bottle of the highland reserve (the white frost if I were in the mood for white) and enjoyed it on the lawn with an amazing view of the vineyards. Instead I ended up just doing a souvenir t shirt and heading on my way. I just loved that this place was so small, and it felt like kind of a secret place. As part of our attempt to complete the 2013 Connecticut Wine Trail - this was the second vineyard we visited during "Round 2". As we drove to Jerram Winery (which by the way is a gorgeous and scenic drive) - I checked the Yelp reviews and although there were no recent reviews I was still a bit wary of what to expect. However, I will say that after our visit the reviews definitely did not match the experience Mark and I had. The owner of Jerram Winery (who was also our host) actually stared the vineyard in the 1980's as a hobby and as the years have gone by the vineyard has basically taken over the property and surrounds his home. He currently grows 11 varieties of grapes and has just started several vines of Riesling. There is small area for those who want to bring a picnic lunch or just sit and take in the lovely although not expansive views of the property. In addition the tasting room was very airy and thanks to the lovely weather we were able to enjoy a gentle cross breeze. Some have said that the owner was a bit prickly and although I do admit that he is not a talkative individual, he certainly loves what he does and when asked questions, was very personable. We were given a selection of six wines to taste (3 whites and 3 reds) and I cannot tell you how much it cost as since it was CT Open House day - the first 25 customers were free - bonus! I loved that the tasting notes sheet that we received listed several food pairings. Additionally this was the second winery where we were given the option of a stem-less wineglass (The first Winery was Lost Acres) For the whites we sampled the White Frosh (Chardonnay - not a fan), Seyval BC (single varietal) and Aurora (blend), and after a quick rinse of our glass we sample the Highland Reserve (blend), Marechal Foch (single varietal and the first grapes grown on the property) as well as the Noreaster (blend) for the Reds. I really enjoyed the Aurora and surprisingly the Marechal Foch as although it was a dry wine it was not that overpowering. In the end we both enjoyed the Noreaster and ended up purchasing a bottle as it is hard to find a white that we both enjoy. Jerram Winery might be off the beaten path, but is worth the stop. read more

Jerram is a lovely winery in New Hartford. It is comprised of several buildings including one for wine making and a tasting room. The grounds are small, but beautiful. This winery feels much more quiet and peaceful as compared to some other wineries in the area. There are plenty of picnic tables and chairs outside, although there is limited seating inside the tasting room. The tasting is a great value-- 6 tastings and an etched glass to take home all for $7. Unfortunately, the wine falls flat for me. They all taste a little unfinished to me. My favorite was a semi-sweet white called Aurora, although I've definitely had better wines at other CT wineries. read more

Jerram was where I began my love affair with the CT Wine Trail a few years ago, when I discovered their Nor'easter at the first CT Wine Festival. I discovered that their lovely winery is a quick, scenic drive from Hartford, and have enjoyed several trips out there with friends. Although not all of their wines please my palate, the deliciousness that is the Nor'easter, a semi sweet table wine, is enough to make me happy. I've even gone out of my way to find liquor stores that carry it. The grounds are gorgeous and make a great picnic destination. I have to mention though, an unpleasant experience that happened on my most recent visit. Upon arrival, I was approached by an older woman who asked me if I knew who she was. Umm... Are you Mrs Jerram? (She was). It was a very off putting and awkward way for a business owner to introduce herself. After the tasting, my boyfriend took the bottle we had purchased and our souvenir glasses out to the car, while I visited the bathroom. On my way out, I thanked Mrs Jerram and told her we enjoyed ourselves. I then asked if it was ok to exit using the door that she was physically blocking, and she responded by asking if I was there with someone. Puzzled by the question, I told her that my boyfriend was waiting for me in the car. She then called to her husband, asking "is she all set?" At that point, feeling totally insulted, I turned around and exited out the other door. I don't know this woman and can't be sure what the intent was, but it sure felt like she saw a tattooed weirdo coming in and thought I was going to skip out on the bill, when I've actually been a fan and supporter of their winery over the last few years. I definitely left with a bad taste, and it certainly wasn't from the wine. Had it not been for this interaction, I would have rated Jerram as a 3 or 4. read more

This was my least favorite of the four local wineries I visited. In my opinion it was very 'eh'. The owner was cordial yet dry, and coincidentally, so was his wine. I'm not such a fan of dry wines myself, but Husband was happier with the sampling than I was. I almost got the feeling that the owner didn't really want us there sampling his wine. Maybe he felt our novice palates couldn't comprehend the complexities of his masterpieces. Maybe we were having too much fun. Because wine tasting is a serious matter, you know. Like a funeral. No casual conversation, no smiling, and certainly no laughing allowed. Anyway, we bought two bottles here -- Aurora (a white table wine) and Nor'Easter (a semi-sweet red table wine) -- both which are okay but don't do much for me. I would like to note, however, that the grounds here at Jerram Winery are just beautiful. They have a lot of pretty gardens and a lovely Japanese maple tree. The interior of the tasting area is decorated with old movie posters, and this piqued my interest moreso than the wine did. read more

I really enjoyed my visit to Jerram. The couple doing the tasting were absolutely adorable. For $6, we got 6 samples of wine. Most of the wine I tried was kind of funky (and not in a good way). However, I did buy a bottle of their Aurora, which was absolutely delicious. I really liked the atmosphere here... you're basically doing a tasting on a farm, so it's quaint and cozy. read more

Ok. so the wine isn't the best....their Seyval Blanc is my favorite of the bunch. BUT, with that said...I went a few years back and there is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT from then...so that's the 3 star. As for the grounds itself...it's right out of a fairytale picture book and the girls in the tasting room were super friendly. it's a quick stop and one worth going to....if even to just sit outside and picnic. read more

Another stop on the 2011 Winter Wine Trail, Jerram has a bright and cheerful little tasting room. Our tasting was conducted by Mr. Jerram, who was friendly and helpful-- he even called Miranda Vineyard for us to ask if they were open. We were given the choice between a stemless or "regular" glass, which was a first among the vineyards I've visited. I chose the stemless one, thinking that although it's too small to use as an actual wine glass, it would make a cute bud vase. The tasting was $6 for five or six wines. We enjoyed nearly every one we tried, particularly the Marechal Foch and Nor'easter. read more

We had a similar experience to Chelsea A. The tasting seemed to drag on forever. I do not understand why they only have ONE person doing the tastings. It takes forever, and it is frustrating. They also have stemless glasses this year. We were not offered the stemless glasses as my sister in law noted. When we asked about this, the owner said that he offered and we declined. NOT THE CASE. We were not going to harp about it because we were running behind as it was-but annoying nonetheless. read more

My last stop here the wine didn't seem as appealing as my first stop. We did a tasting, grabbed a bottle and headed down the Road to CT Valley Winery which was excellent as always. The summer of 2013 is our summer to visit as many wineries on the CT wine trail as we can. After a disappointing stop at Rosedale Farms, we drove over to the Jerram winery and were pleasantly surprised. The grounds are lovely and they have set up a picnicking area for those who bring a lunch. Inside, I thought it was nice to be able to talk with the owner/winemaker who started making wine 38 years ago. He gave us a bit of his history and the back-story of the property and the evolution of his hobby into his full-time passion. The tasting room was welcoming and fancifully decorated with various posters and artwork. The bar area was neat and clean and a tasting of 6 wines was $7. We brought home a bottle of the Marechal Foch which was an interesting red and our favorite of those we sampled. There was a nice young lady behind the bar who gave us an excellent recommendation of a nearby place to grab a bite for lunch. Worth a stop. read more

We went to Jerram during a wine tour for my sister's Bacehlorette Party. They were very helpful via communication over email. However, I tried calling in advance to pay for our group's tastings to avoid the hassle and time doing it separately the day of, and they wouldn't take the payment. I think they assumed if I was paying in advance, we weren't planning to buy bottles of wine the day of, which was not the case, but regardless, I think that assumption stuck and affected how we were treated the day of the event. Prior to the tasting we had a lovely picnic lunch under a birch tree outside their tasting room. Their grounds are absolutely gorgeous! Then, inside, they had a table waiting for us which was wonderful, that's about it. Mr. Jerram gave the tastings, and as much as we tried to enjoy the wines, most of them ended up dumped into the center bucket because they were not potable in our minds. The only one pretty good was the Nor'Easter. During the tasting, Mr. Jerram kept leaving to help couples at the bar area doing tastings. There were only 3 couples there, so I felt that Mrs. Jerram could handle it, and one employees undivided attention should be given to 10 customers as opposed to competing with a party of 2. There were points where the time between tastings dragged on, to the point I had to get up and ask him to hurry through the last 2 since we were running a little behind and had a schedule for the last 2 wineries....again, something they were aware of through email and telephone communications. Overall this winery was not an awful experience, but there wines literally tasted bad and this winery did not compare to the other three on our tour.We would probably skip them if we were doing a tour again. read more

Very quaint - a lovely place to sit and drink wine. I really enjoyed these wines and chatting with the owner. I even enjoyed the whites and I am generally not a white wine drinker. I will definitely be back to sit outside among the vines and have some wine (if you intend to sit & drink, bring a snack, they don't serve any but they do sell chocolate). They also have art from local artists hanging on the walls which is lovely (and for sale which is also cool). My wife and I have been going to this winery for 5 years now. From being 'noobs' to visiting 38 vineyards in 3 different states including Sonoma County. The staff has been pleasant and things are even better when you get familiar with them. Their wines are great for the most part, even though one should let the reds sit for a few weeks to enjoy them further. If you have a genuine interest in wines, want to actually develop an understanding of how a small winery works, exploring and enhancing your tasting palate, this an few, (and I do mean few), other wineries will do it for you. If you are solely into sweet wines, or just like to drink....which is probably 70% of the people who visit CT wineries, pretty much sums up the majority of the low ratings posted here.....in my opinion. read more

Not the best local wines I've had but Jerram is a nice spot for an afternoon tasting in a lovely rural area. A tasting of 6 wines is $7; nothing really stood out as especially unique, although the Seyval Blanc is enjoyable as a crisp, refreshing summer wine. We tried this winery for the first time today. It's very small, tiny even, and very homey. You can park right next to the horse barn on the property and see the vines up close on the 38 acre property. The wines are excellent; our favorite was the Aurora, light, a bit sweet and fresh. The wine servers (I suspect one was the owner) knew exactly what we wanted to taste after asking our preferences. And a plus, their wines are moderately priced. It's BYOC (crackers). Thought they have locally made chocolates for purchase and pairing. A neat touch is the chocolates are made using their wines. read more

Our large group came to Jerram Winery today for a tasting -- they opened specially for our group as they are not open every weekend during the winter. What a lovely (and affordable!) experience! Jim greeted us warmly. We tasted the six wines -- three white, three red -- over a period of nearly two hours, we never felt rushed. Jim answered all of our questions about the win with patience and a smile. We also appreciated the display of local art around the tasting room (especially the painting of the corgis!) and the various merchandise for sale. After our tasting we were thrilled to take home our Jerram Winery glasses and quite a few bottles of wine! Thank you Jim for a great afternoon. read more

Jerram is easily one of the best vineyards on the Connecticut wine trail. A very cozy little place, the tasting room appears to be built in their guesthouse. Which is very appropriate, as the friendly people make you feel like a guest in their home. Bring money to this one. Not because they are expensive (their wine is actually very reasonably priced). But because they have so many GREAT wines, you are going to want to bring home alot! read more

We've done the CT wine trail and Litchfield winter trail for 3 years and I always kind of hold my breath before going into Jerram. The wines and information given are good, but the gentleman who owns the place might want to hire customer service oriented people to interact at the counter. Out of the 6 times we've visited, he was in a good mood twice. Other times he's been rather short and appears bothered by our presence. The tasting room is lovely, small but decorated nicely and we do enjoy the wines, but there are so many friendlier wineries to visit that we normally don't stay. read more
