Had intended to drink at Hawk Ridge but it was way too crowded, nowhere to sit, and had that feeling...you know great venue, but mediocre wine (like a certain other winery in Sandy Hook...). Pulling up was like driving into someone else's backyard at first. But don't let that sway you, this is a marvelous gem of a winery. Their Red Table wine is like a milder Cab with a clean finish, enough to eat with a meal or sipping. I'm not into white but the Gertrude wasn't sweet at all, in fact all of their wines are quite dry, even their Rose. We've been many CT wineries, with Hopkins and Stonington Vineyards being the best, the wine quality approaches what these more established places deliver. The venue is intimate, it's small, ie, 50-60 people would fill up most of the seating in the barn/deck, but there an outside seating area adjacent that peeps walk past and aren't aware of. There were maybe 25 people there and it was fine. Parking could be tight if busy, but I suspect very few people know of this place. Owners were very nice, and love talking about their wines. Jim especially. Note no food, other than a cheese box which was good, but you can bring your own... I'd give it 5 stars but felt the flight serving pour was a bit small. Def on our list to visit again. read more

This is a small family vineyard tucked into a small, charming, quintessential Connecticut town. The tasting room is in a 19th-century barn. There is a deck, patio, and "the hill," a lawn area over looking the vines, where you can relax with a bottle of any of their very good wines. You will never go there and not be greeted by the owners. read more

The size of this vineyard belies how adorable it is. It looks at first glance like someone decided to turn their backyard into a wine tasting bar for fun and profit, but the low key vibe just makes it a relaxing place to enjoy a glass of wine with friends. The tasting barn is cozy, and currently has an art exhibit with work inspired by the artist's trip to Cuba. They do offer a very clean restroom with a single toilet. The backyard has grape vines buttressing an open space with familiar lawn furniture for guests to take in the beautiful backyard and wildly colorful flower garden. Compared to some of the larger vineyards that cater to large groups and result in loud noises, Walker Road offers a much more relaxing and intimate experience. Even more finicky friends who are more wine-devotees than myself were so impressed with the surroundings they were okay the Vineyard only has two varieties of wine (red and white). read more

Went on a winetasting tour yesterday, my friend and I traveled from Springfield, Massachusetts to Western Connecticut. Walker Road was in the middle of our stops. The Vineyard is owned and operated by a lovely couple out of a barn in their backyard. They have available seating on the deck outside in addition to a room inside the barn. The tasting bar is decorated lovely. The owners take great pride in their work, the gentleman shared a photo book of the work that they have done. He was very friendly. I wasn't impressed with your wine, but on a wine tour you have to expect that from time to time. It was a lovely place and I will visit again. read more

Beautiful setting in the farmlands of the rolling Housatonic Valley. A smaller vineyard with great local wine, an historic barn and family farm setting. Adorable local couple own and operate this vineyard and are working their butts off during COVID. Choose between seats on their deck overlooking the vines, or tables scattered around between the rows of the vineyards. Absolutely worth the trip to spend a nice Labor Day with a bottle of their wine and a green hills backdrop. read more

This was the first time I had been to Walker Road, the winery and vineyard itself is smaller than any of the other ones I have been to aside from Bethlehem. This definitely is not a commercial winery like Jones or Hawk Ridge. The owners are really nice to talk to and really have a passion for the wine making process. They have won awards in California for their wines and they've expanded to having one white and two reds this year instead of one white and one red. I preferred the white wine and the label history was nice to hear. They have chairs to overlook the vineyard. Grab a cheese platter, your passport, and swing on by. Walker Road was stop 3/3 on our vineyard journey this past weekend. The location is intimate, tiny, and offers great views. They only produce two wines - a white and a red - and the owners will tell you their entire backstory while you sip your (very full) samples. Walker serves up the best red wine that I've come across in CT. The owners focus on providing two really good wines (1 red and 1 white) instead of offering a dozen mediocre wines. All of the wine they make is considered a signature blend so you won't find any single varietals here. Every year the owner (Jim) goes through a rigorous signature wine selection process. It costs $5 for a tasting of their two wines and the pours are very generous :-) In terms of the facility, visualize a wine tasting in an open air civil war era barn style tasting room. They also have outdoor seating and tables so bring your picnic basket. The vineyard stands alone in the middle of Woodbury, but is definitely worth the journey. Definitely check it out! read more

After reading a few reviews before our visit, we thought this place sounded great. It's absolutely worth the visit! Jim, the owner and winemaker, greeted us and welcomed us with a handshake...great gesture that you typically don't see at other vineyards. I instantly felt welcomed and loved the personal experience. Jim told us all about his two wines, one white and one red, both blends. He went into great detail about the grapes, the labels, the winemaking process, and even showed us the bottling room. This room is in the barn, next to the tasting room, but is air conditioned and available for private parties. We did the tasting for $5 each, and had a hefty pour of each wine. Both were on the dry side but very good. I liked the red more, but the white was nice too. It was just so refreshing to visit a winery and learn about the winemaking process and more details about how a small winery operates. It is evident that Jim and his wife really take pride in what they do and they want to share that with their guests. We purchased a bottle of red to enjoy outside on the property before heading home, and we will most definitely be back! read more

Love it! Lots of upgrades in the past few years. Had a lovely Sun afternoon sitting in the sun w our snacks and wine. The landscape has been broadened and seems so much more inviting. The owners are friendly and informative. I learned more about wine there than I have at other vineyards. The coupe really seem to love what they are doing and enjoy spending time explaining their wine. We really love their white wine! They do have a cute little converted barn where there is an ongoing chess game set up, and separate serving room, and wine barrels set up as tables. The barn door has a view of the vineyards. We stopped by Walker Road for the first time this past weekend and it's hands down our favorite winery that we've been to in CT. Jim and his wife were lovely to speak too and so knowledgable. I believe personality goes a long way, and Walker Road has plenty of it. Between the couple who runs the winery, and the Civil War era barn tasting room, my experience there was downright charming. As others have stated, this is a very small operation, with only two wines- a red and a white. The tasting room is nestled behind a rustic old house, and both are rich with history that the owners will be happy to tell you about. Many original components of the barn remain either in their original place, or repurposed for shelves or something. The owners are really nice and accommodating, with stories about the property, the area, the wines, and even the labels. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. I personally didn't fall in love with either wine, but that doesn't mean that you won't. Judging by the amount of awards they have won, plenty of people think it's pretty great; it just wasn't my favorite. The tasting is $5 for 2 very generous pours- I'd say about half a glass of each. An intimate vineyard run by a husband and wife, They told us stories of their exciting life. We sipped wonderful wine in a small, cozy barn, When the tasting was over we could only say "Darn!" It doesn't get any better than Walker Road when it comes to overall experience. You will park in what seems like someone's backyard and walk into a small barn/tasting room that the owner renovated himself. The tasting room has so much character, from the big oak bar to the rustic tables to the old sleds and snowshoes hung on the walls. Walker Road does only two wines a year- one red and one white- but they do them well! For $5 you will get a taste of each wine (about half a glass each) and will get the honor of talking with the two owners. some of the topics discussed were their origins in California, their benchmark process in selecting the perfect blend of grapes each year, and the bobcat and bobcat kittens seen on the farm years ago. The owner also showed us how he was able to determine what year the barn was originally built based on the style of nails found within the original floorboards. He explained how he installed new floors and re-purposed the old floors to turn them into the walls around the tasting room's bathroom. So cool. In the middle of the tasting we were brought into another room and were showed where the wine was bottled. The owner also showed us a small shed that he built about 50 yards away and told us next time to bring our lunches and to eat on the front porch of the shed. It's impossible to leave from Walker Road in a bad mood. read more

This summer I decided to dive right in and participate in the CT Wine Trail Passport. Walker Road Vineyard was stop number 16 for me. Although, this may not be my favorite vineyard thus far, it certainly was a pleasant visit. The owners of the winery who are husband and wife were very friendly and made this experience very pleasurable. The wine wasn't shabby either. I did the wine tasting which was 5 dollars plus I was able to keep the wine tasting glass.The tasting size was very generous. Walker Vineyards has 2 delicious wines to taste. A white and red wine. The white wine (Gertrude's Garden) was my favorite as the aromas and taste were very citrus like. I would recommend this place especially if you enjoy the outdoors. We decided to visit Walker Road before we drove over to Hopkins. I am so glad we did! They are only open the first full weekend of each month. The owners were both lovely and accommodating. We sat outside under a covered area before heading inside the tasting room. While we were outside, the wife poured glasses of the two wines offered and explained what grapes were in each bottle. It is a small venture run by a very friendly and informative husband and wife who have been sharing their perfected wines with Connecticut for almost two decades. The winemaker and his wife converted an antique barn into a cozy tasting room, complete with a fireplace. If visiting during the warmer months, there is a deck that has been added to the rear of the barn that offers wine drinkers a view of the many acres of vines that the family has grown and nurtured as well as other outdoor seating options overlooking the vineyard. Of the 4 vineyards we visited on the SW wine trail. This one was by far the smallest, however, it was also the most personable and informative. The owner and his son were very attentive and informative. Spoke of their travels and how they came to be in Woodbury, explained their wines, showed us the newly built bottling room, etc. It was very impressive. Jim makes incredible blends - the red blend is a staple in my wine cellar and their Gertrude's Garden white table wine is the only white wine I keep on hand for hot Connecticut summer days.
