OakView skilled nursing facility is a top-notch location for acute rehab. From the moment you drive…read moreup to the facility, walk into the building and go to your assigned room, you can see the building is very well taken care of and nicely decorated. This is important as it shows their attention to detail. In the room, there is a lovely armoire for every patient to use for their belongings along with a nightstand, hospital bed and tray. The armoire is much nicer and larger than the usual small closet you find in most facilities. The true star of the facility are the employees. The CNA's are always quick to respond and provide you with the service you need. The LVN's who dispense the medication are equally quick to help and all of them have kind words along with words of encouragement for each patient. Unfortunately, I have been in numerous facilities and non of them compare. OakView is fine tuned and runs very smoothly. Administrative staff checks on the patients frequently to make sure all needs are met. Treatment plans are prepared by medical staff. And the social worker is very kind and extremely helpful in taking care of the patient while on the premises but also after they leave OakView. She even called me two days after my release from OakView to check on me and to see if there was any additional needs I had. I was extremely impressed by this as I had never had this happen before. Never was there a social worker that did a third of the work this woman did let alone follow through and show she cared every step of the way. OakView feels like a resort with medical assistance, not a skilled nursing facility. The food is excellent and if it's not to your liking, the chef is willing to prepare something that meets your desires. No other facility I know of does that. If and when I need to be in a skilled nursing facility again, I hope I am blessed to be able to find a room at OakView. I highly recommend it. P.S. They also have an assisted living facility.

The staff was is knowledgable and treated her with genuine respect and tenderness, and they were consistently thoughtful with our family as well. The facility was clean, well-kept, and organized, and communication with us was steady and reliable. I've even told my husband that this is exactly the kind of place I'd hope for myself one day. During my visits with my grandma, I saw how happy and well-cared-for the other residents were--the daily meals, activities, and interactions all felt warm, structured, and intentional. It was the kind of environment that gives you real peace of mind. The level of care they provide is exceptional and they were excellent care partners with my parents.

Her room was kept clean, the nurses took their time, were personable, capable and caring. The food was better than expected and the therapists worked her effectively on structured schedules that prepared her for success at home. She's now been home a week and is following the care plan provided and improving daily. Frankly, after reading some of the reviews we were afraid of what the experience here might be like, but it completely exceeded our expectations. We do not recognize the facility or experience described in some of the reviews. Great PT staff, the food was decent, and really liked Dr Prasad who really spent time with my dad and was very thorough with a good bedside manner! I finally asked for the number of the nurses station DIRECTLY on his floor to get updates on my dad when I couldn't be there..... Otherwise, I would highly recommend them!

The staff not only loved me until I could love myself again but they held my hand through many situations I didn't think I could face, if your looking for real sobriety, amazing care, and to feel like your home this is your place, it wasn't always easy and fun but what I learned here is that I never have to face life alone again, and god forbid I had to go back to rehab I would come back here with out a doubt!! Thank you to VRC my children have two sober present healthy parents!! I love you guys and just know my family and I thank each and every one of the staff members who's dealt with both CJ & I. This facility actually cares about their clients!…read more I'm filled with gratitude to this facility. I was in true despair and was ready to throw it all away, everything I had worked so hard for, all of it, it was horrible. By chance we found this facility and it was exactly what I needed. I was ready and willing to do whatever it took to get myself back in order and La Ventana gave me the tools that are necessary to make that happen. The staff treated me like family and everyone on board is passionate about what they do. I was given the structure and encouragement I needed, they were patient with me and let me be myself. They absolutely went above and beyond for me and my family and I will be forever grateful to them. I'm so glad we found this facility and my new extended family. Thank you EVERYONE at La Ventana, we got this!!!

La Ventana claims to be a mental health facility but mental health is the last of their priorities…read more My time working at La Ventana was one of the most unprofessional and unsafe work experiences I have ever had. Training was nonexistent, I only received one day before being placed in a high-risk situation. Policies were unclear, inconsistent, and often contradictory depending on the house, leaving staff confused during medical emergencies or client crises. Long story short, I was sexually harassed by a client. We were given a vague warning of the clients tendencies the morning of but in my opinion it was down played. Come to find out they knew the client had sexually harassed his clinician at his last facility and staff were again in my opinion not given a proper warning. Right after the incident I was told by clinical my options were to "press charges" or "wait and see if it happened again." Neither of these options made sense. Pressing charges would have meant taking legal action against someone struggling with mental illness... a situation I did not feel was appropriate. At the same time, being told to "wait and see if it happened again" puts both my safety and the safety of other staff and clients at risk. All I wanted was for him to be moved to a higher level of care, a clear policy, proper training, and support from management, not an ultimatum that left me feeling unsafe and blamed for something beyond my control. In addition, management insinuated the incident was my fault for not "maintaining boundaries," even though the harassment occurred while I was simply helping him use the laundry machine, quite literally just doing my job. When I raised these concerns during a staff meeting, I was gaslit. The Admissions Director told me, "If you don't feel comfortable working here, then this field isn't for you." This ignored the reality that staff were put in unsafe positions without training, without consistent procedures, and without access to important information. This type of victim-blaming is unacceptable in any workplace but especially in a mental health facility where mental health should be prioritized. Considering how they handled my situation, I wasn't surprised when I found out the owner was sued himself for sexual assault/battery. A few days after voicing my concerns, I was "laid off." Idiotically they hired my friend I had referred to replace me. This left me with no doubt that my termination was retaliatory for speaking up about safety. I want to warn others: this company does not protect its staff, ignores serious safety issues, and even goes as far as to use gaslighting techniques on their own employees and clients. Staff and clients alike deserve far better...

I'm compelled to write this at the behest of 3 girls who are currently living there ( who prefer to…read moreremain anonymous), to introduce you to what a sober living environment should NOT be, and why this is so damaging to their sobriety as it causes resentments on a daily basis, something ' the program' is against. Also, I found out about this place from Summit Malibu ( see my review ) (incidentally, Some of the pictures on the website are not of the sober living but pictures from the owners actual residence. Also, we're not clear on one of the owners actual last name, who also shared with me that she pays her nephew to go to traffic school for her. So much for an Honest program). It sounds a little nit picky but, it all ads up. My one week there - The mens house has a ' flop house ' kinda vibe. The Oaks is comprised of 3 houses: Mens house, Womens House, Co-Ed house. Price per month: $2,500 per person. Slamming doors, loud people and strange behavior from residents, the managers and the owners abound. . 1 - Wreckless Endangerment The owners had us come to the beach (basically to watch the husband and wife owners of the 3 houses kite surf for the day) Afterwards we piled into the wife's new Tesla suv for her to return us to our respective houses. She proceeded to race through the nook and cranny roads that connect Malibu to the Thousand Oaks area, crossing the double yellow lines to pass traffic until getting on the 101 northbound freeway where she put the car in auto drive while texting at 80mph with a car filled with clients who have less than 20 days of sobriety ?!?! I had asked her NOT to drive like that. She made it sound like I can't handle fast speeds?? ( REALLY?) what of the lives of everyone in your new Tesla lady?? 2 - Public humiliation I wasn't feeling well and left the 7am mandatory AA meeting a few minutes early, minutes later the owner pulled into the driveway to yell at me in public in front of the girls and the entire neighborhood threatening to ' kick me out of the house' ( sober livings think they can simply kick people to street even after you've established residence by receiving mail at the location) which is illegal in the state of california but, don't tell them that. 3 - Car Accident The manager of the Womens sober living ( which for some reason is on the actual property of the owners) has been in 2 car accidents, endangering the lives of the clients in the vehicle. 4 - Fraternizing The male manager of the womens co-ed ( who later was simply transferred to manage the mens sober living as punishment ) was caught dating two of the girls in the girls house ( also caught kissing one of the clients in the driveway by the owners on one occasion). imagine if this was your daughter? Meds not safe 5 - new manager of the co-ed house (Darren) often forgets to lock the medications closet, leaving it wide open for anyone to have access. On 2 occasions he locked the keys inside of the medications locker only to be seen using a phillips screwdriver to take the lock off to get into the med closet which houses meds for over 9 people in that house. 6 - Levels ( very dangersous) In my over 20 years in the program I've never heard of Levels. typically if someone in the house relapses or is using, they're removed from the house and for good reason. it only takes one person to bring drugs/alcohol into the sober environment to bring the house down. At The Oaks, if you're caught drinking or using you get Levels, meaning: if you're caught using, and you're given a urine test, you have to bring the 'level' of use down to prove you're no longer using. (Levels also comes down to how much the owners like you - if you're liked - they'll let you stay - if they don't, they'll find any excuse to get rid of you and keep the reminder of your $2,500. Clients at risk for theft - the manager of the womens house confiscated a versachi purse from one of the wealthier women ( same manager who got into 2 car accidents with clients in the car.
