I'm giving this place 5 stars for the quality of massage I received. Maybe 3 or 4 stars for decor because of the paper screens between clients. But let me say, I've paid a whole lot more for a whole lot less by going to day spas for massage. The day spa has the trappings of luxury, but this place has the massage technique you want to receive. Being that I'm interested in qigong and acupuncture I was worried I might be disappointed and this place might not be legit tui na. I can say that the pressure points used on my back and my feet were legit. The massage therapist did some amazing work on knots in my middle back (with her knees!). Tui na is not for everyone. If you are looking for the Swedish massage experience you might be a bit surprised by tui na. But if you like a good deep tissue sports massage, tui na is that with a bit of good qigong, energy healing thrown in for getting your qi flowing. And don't underestimate the efficacy of a good foot massage, in case you are thinking about it. I waited for about 5 minutes, by the way. I was sort of surprised how busy they were. But I guess it's a best kept secret in the neighborhood. (and now I'm blabbing on Yelp for everybody to see.) Sorry guys! Stopped in for a massage the other day first time. Massage was good and strong, great price. My only complaints were that too many people talk on their cell phones at full voice and dont care about anyone around them. Also the place is in a dingy basement and there is LOUD rock & roll music live playing right upstairs after 5 pm. Call ahead if there is more then 1 of you going in because they do fill up. If you ever wanted a great massage without the spa frills and fees, this is it. The fees are so reasonable and the massage is great. I called in ahead just to make sure since I was going with my boyfriend. We didn't have to wait at all. They take walk-ins... how great is that?!! I had a one hour + 15 min. foot work. I had so many knots on my back and was really tight. I usually carry my tension in my neck and shoulders, but my mid and lower back were also needing some serious TLC. So much so, that I couldn't sleep the night before. That night I slept well and I feel human again. As soon as you open the door, you'll see that the space is divided into individual rooms with screens, so you'll need to keep your voice to a whisper. Everyone is very respectful and I didn't hear anyone being loud. The staff is great. I don't think I'll get the footwork next time, but that's your call. This was my first time there and I'll definitely be back. All I can say is that if all you really care about is getting your body back to feeling yourself and don't want to deal with cancellations fees or making appointments or chit chat, this is really a great place. read more

One of the things I like (besides the price) is that the masseur (woman) took direction well and focused on the areas I asked her to -- she didn't have an attitude like some of the spa masseurs. I get massages every two weeks or so so I've become an expert on the tui na spots throughout the city since they tend to be the cheapest. I went to this place yesterday because I didn't feel like going into Chinatown and had Jeffrey as my masseuse. The man is seriously gifted. It's real Tui Na, not swedish so he finds tense spots and leans into them with an intense but not too intense amount of pressure and was good about asking if it was too much or too little. There was barely any oil used since he wasn't really doing long strokes. This massage was serious release and pain relief and he Jeffrey was really intuitive on finding where he needed to work. I've had some really expensive massages and this $55 massage kicked all of their butts. Highly recommended! They ask for cash for the 5% yelp discount but you can pay and tip on a credit card if you like. Please tip these hardworking people well! read more

In a treat yo' self kind of moment, I decided to give my body the therapy it deserves after months of aggravation caused by stress, running, and schlepping my backpack like Dora. OH WOW. They got every single screaming spot. My aches had never been attacked like that by any other masseuse, ever. This place is not for everyone. Yes, at $55/hour it is much cheaper than a spa. But they do not boast a luxurious experience or even a relaxing one. I'm talking about a paper folding wall separating my neck-ed self from the guy on his cell phone next to me. If you feel like being pampered but you can't afford Bliss, go find something on Groupon. However, if you have serious tension and want real, immediate muscle treatment, this is your place. Be prepared for a vigorous but effective massage. I'm no masochist, but even the painful moments felt great, especially knowing that it's healing in the long run. The practitioners are well trained in their method. I swear, no moves were wasted. My guy gave lots of attention to the neck, shoulders, and back without my asking. He could feel where the trouble spots were and went after them right away. He used a couple of accupressure techniques which were new to me, as well as a hot stone rub. I compared notes with my boyfriend afterwards, and he had similar comments...I'm sure all of their workers are equally skilled. Also, for such a non-assuming place, every table was occupied during my visit. Afterwards, I was so satisfied and intrigued that I found myself running home to google the Tui Na form of massage (I suggest you do that, too.) and wondering how soon would be too soon to come back. Having a local massage place that is actually good is a big plus for the neighborhood. They are open until 10pm every day which is a plus too. A little bit more expensive than places in chinatown but they do a great job and if you live in park slope you can't beat the convenience. Vanessa is great. This review is for the elder lady who I assume is in charge. After being late, I called to make them aware. I have been going to Vanessa for well over 2 years... yes I was late, because I was coming from work.. in the ER when an unfortunate situation occurred which is why I had to stay and which is why I was late. The elder lady immediately asked if I made an appt when I came in to which i said yes I spoke to Vanessa .. and saw her when she directed me towards her. The elder lady would not give up and said I was late again. She made me feel uncomfortable and I said it's okay I can come back another day. I could not enjoy my massage and didn't feel welcome. This is the best bang for your buck anywhere I have tried! SUPER reasonable prices. I personally like deep tissue massages that get the knots out and that is exactly the type of massage you'll get here. This is massage efficiency. Get in, get out. Leave knot free and with cash left in your wallet. It's not as private as a spa, but you get what you pay for and they keep it super quiet so it isn't loud. When you enter there are four "booths" or rooms made by wall dividers and they have 4 masseuses working. My group called about an hour ahead just to check how crowded it was, but it seems like you can just walk in without an appointment. If you are looking for a top of the line fancy spa massage this is not for you. If you want one of the best and affordable massages with no frills - this is for you. I was able to walk in and get an hour massage and only had a wait a few minutes. Each room is divided up basically by curtains so you can hear who's coming in and out the door and white noise made up of all the other patrons. But overall, I was able to tune everything out and just hear the nice background music. It's actually impressive how many people are there at once and how chill and quiet the place is. The massage was simply awesome. She worked every part of my body with the right pressure, stretching and hot stones. I felt comfortable the whole time and totally relaxed. They manhandle you here in the best possible way. I came back from a trip to China this spring in search of a parlor that comes close to the Tui Na massages I experienced during my vacation. While not exactly the same, this place certainly does the trick. Definitely not for the faint of heart but if you're a fan of deep tissue manipulation then you're likely to enjoy this. This place is no frills so manage your expectations going in. The 4 or 5 massage areas are all in one open space, separated by curtains. The reception area is in this space as well, right by the door. My session was in the middle of a weekday so while I could certainly hear when people came in and out, the noise wasn't very distracting because of the light foot traffic. I can't speak to how loud it may get on the weekends or after work on weekdays. Would recommend giving it a try. After a friend recommended this place, I couldn't wait to try it myself. So happy with the 45 minutes although it went so fast and didn't feel like 45 minutes. To comment further, the sheets were dirty and I had to ask for new sheets; the lady attended to my concern right away. I had a lot of tension in my neck, back and shoulders which I think she attended to very well and got many of my knots out happily. I was impressed. There was a lot of chatter and background noise so I would choose a better time like when everyone's at work for me to get my peace. I did not know what to expect of the set up. My decision to get a massage here was based on the above reviews. I was not disappointed. An hour massage was 55$. The atmosphere tries to be tranquil in the best way. However, if you are looking for an aesthetic massage parlor this is not it. There are no private rooms just your own private paper rice booth. There is relaxing music playing but I did notice the occasional toilet flush and the bell when the door open. The massage was great. A deep, tough rub that used lotion instead of oil. I also had hot stones. The woman who worked on me really knew pressure points. She even crouched on the table above me. The masseuse did a good enough job, and the environment was relaxing enough (although their office is in the same room you are getting a a massage in and the phone ringing can be distracting. The only real complaints I have are that 1) the masseuse didn't massage my whole body by the end of one hour and said I would need to purchase an additional 30 minutes to cover everything. Let me start by saying that I've been going to this spot for over ten years. Until recently, it was simply amazing; every masseuse was incredibly skilled, the environment was quiet and relaxing, super affordable, just all in all the perfect experience. Fast forward to about three months ago, and all I can say is WHAT HAPPENED? There used to be a very kind masseuse at reception, but she has been replaced by an extremely loud, extremely bad practitioner. Like the last reviewer said, the new staff yell at each other throughout the massages- no music, no relaxation, and terrible massages. Honestly, when I went in last week it felt like the woman was using her forearm as a Zamboni, just painfully scraping over my back and not using her hands to pinpoint the knots; there was no rhythm or rhyme to her technique, more of a whack-a-mole experience that left me more tight than when I came in- knots still in place and sore from a forearm running over my spine. She took two loud phone calls during the massage, and would run out whenever anyone came in; the last time, she didn't run out and I realized that she had just left the curtain open and was speaking to the new customer while he could see my half naked bod. Seriously, I am not a snob and don't typically write reviews, but I honestly feel like it's my public duty to warn others against going here. Let me start by saying the massage was OK. Not my worst, but far from my best at an Asian massage place. First they told us 30 min and to definitely be back before. We arrived by 3:55 and waited 15 until some person was called in and we were whisked hurriedly away to another location with no explanation. We were hurried to undress, were never asked our pressure preference or what areas to focus on. I've been to plenty of other places where I felt more relaxed, more comfortable and had a better massage. Very nice, and very accommodating. Best massage i think i have ever received. My fried was not feeling well but decided to go any ways we both felt revitalized and rejuvenated. I did call a head of time because there was two of us. They informed me that they are open until 10 pm on Sundays. When we first walked in we were surprised to see the small massage spaces right in the entrance. We both just grinned and bared it. It's not a spa experience like other yelpers have noted, but what's most important is that you feel better afterward. If you want a spa, go to a spa! It's that simple. There's a time and place for both, so plan accordingly. The staff is aware of the spatial limitations and do everything to make all clients comfortable including speak softly. Worst massage we ever had in our lives! It seemed as if the men are primarily the masseuses here, as both women were beyond horrible massagers! They definitely were never trained to be masseuses! Do not have inexperienced workers massage us just because we requested women!!! A friendly heads up would have been nice, in order for us to make that decision!!! No technique or effort whatsoever!
