We happened to be shopping on West Broadway and were walking back to the car to drive to Sophie's for lunch when we walked by Sunshine Diner. The sidewalk cafe was open and it looked so inviting on such a beautiful day so we decided to take a chance and eat there. Kelley was our waitress and she is a great ambassador for the diner. Her enthusiasm for the food was refreshing and her service was great! I decided to take her suggestion and order the burger. I haven't ordered a burger in a restaurant at lease for a couple of years. It was delicious, tasting like an authentic barbecued burger made with real beef rather than many the taste like they are filed with cereal. The salad and fries were also delicious. Messed up the eggs on all three of our eggs Bennie's. They were all rock hard yokes and we asked for "supper runny". Server did not seem to care. We paid about $120 at our table for poorly cooked breakfast and underwhelming Cesar's. If it were not for the fruit bowl - which was lovely, this would have been an easy one star. Now I have to go back because instead of appeasing our eggs we were offered a $15 gift card NOT TO BE USED during our current visit. What a joke. read more

a very good friend texts me at 7am to ask if i was up and wanted to go for breakfast..lucky for him, i was awake since 6am and had food on the brain! i had a client at 10am so i wanted to head somewhere close to the area so i could get there right after. and this place seemed decent enough. from the outside, it was so cute looking! loved the hip 50's retro style.. kinda like sophies, but much cleaner looking. they had a lot of different benny's..and i was quite overwhelmed with all the choices! i can't even remember the name of the one i ended up with...but it sure was yummy!! loved the potatoes that it came with. the gooey hollandaise sauce was good..not the greatest i've had, but definitely good on that rainy saturday morning we met up. id like to say i'll be back for more, but unfortunately not anytime soon. not because of the food..but because i really should stick to my proper dietary restrictions which i have completely ignored for a little while now.... =P totally awesome place for breaky! read more

I loved the atmosphere and I thought the service was awesome. But something was off...the food. I liked that I received an orange at the end, but it was the burger. It tasted like a Costco pre-made patty, but done with the right amount of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and relish to look like the burgers you see on the boxes of those Costco burgers. I could not point my finger on it until my friend said was it the filler? I said yea! Next time you chomp down on their burger, look at the patty. It's very uniform, almost like the beef was ground into a blender, put into a tub and squished onto a forming press and then pressed perfectly round and uniform at 7 oz. burger patty. And it didn't taste...right? Or perhaps I've been spoiled by other burger places. I'm not sure, but it bothered me enough to write about the Burger patty. I've never had a beef patty that tasted so...sterile? I'm not going to say bland, because there were some spices in the patty, but it didn't taste like beef. I really wanted to give this place more stars. I loved the service, it was great, and the 50's theme was what drew me in. The pricing was a little high, but wasn't terrible. But as the two stars state, Meh, I've experienced better. It was kinda weird. I thought to myself, this is kinda like being charged overpriced items by someone you really really like. You know you're being ripped off, but the niceness and the fact that they try to give you good service sorta makes you not want to say anything bad about it but hide your embarrassment and just avoid doing business again with them. I still having mixed feelings on if I'd go back. But who knows, it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't go back a second time. But then....there was something slightly off with the burger patty....it looked too perfect, but didn't taste quite right and I'm not sure why. read more

Delicious food! Although I've only ever had the eggs benny it is extremely well done. The cream cheese really adds an extra oomph to the texture and flavor. Although arguably the hollandaise is a little bland, very buttery/creamy and could maybe use a little more zest. The vibe is fun and kitschy. The service is good and friendly! I really love going here for breakfast with my husband and daughter. The decor is really fun and uplifting. However, I am really not a fan of how pricey everything is. Service was a bit slow, and surrounding tables were getting their orders before us , even though we were seated first. However, it must be said that this was HANDS DOWN, THE BEST EGGS BENEDICT I'VE EVER HAD!!! Had mine with mushrooms, tomatoes, and cream cheese, and savored every bite! Definitely our favourite brunch places, love the decor and friendly wait staff, and of course the food! They've expanded the patio area this summer - YAY! One of the best treats on a weekend morning is sitting outside noshing on their delicious fries, fresh fruit, and best bennies ever. Mix and Match Eggs Benny!!! I had one classic and one Marilyn (hold the mushroom) and both were great! Hollandaise was zingy, ingredients were fresh, and they use back bacon not just shaved ham like everyone else does! Tea was $2.50. Sadly, that's a good price. These are some of the WORST if not THE worst managers and owners I've ever met. I've give them no stars if I could. They lie and lead on their staff; which is what they did to me; promising me a job and telling me that next week I'll train, and then next week-and before I knew it they just were not talking to me 'cause they couldn't admit they don't hire men. Not realizing how much power they hold when providing someone with financial stability-as since I kept waiting to work; even three days of work would be enough to pay my rent; so I held out thinking they must be good people. But, they just didn't care they I am now homeless 'cause I kept waiting to get paid for a job I was lied to about having. Went for brunch with my pancake-craving husband and our new baby. Service was great and they easily accommodated our stroller even on a busy Sunday. Food-wise, pancakes were tasty, not mushy or pasty and underdone like they can be sometimes. I loved the way you could mix up different Eggs Benedict- I had the tomato bacon and the avocado tomato and both were tasty. Chose this place for breakfast because I thought the in-laws from out-of-town would get a kick out of the atmosphere. We waited about 30 minutes for a table which we kind of expected. Negative: the décor is super tacky which I realize is part of the charm for some- an endless homage to Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis Presley. The food is just fine- I had a 3-egg omelette which came with ample fruit and home-fries. The portions are huge which I guess might be a plus for some people, but not me. Finally, the server who was serving the people at the booth beside us was joking around with her customers and dropped a few F-bombs, I had my little girl with me so I thought this was completely inappropriate for a "family" restaurant. On the positive side, the waitress did come over and apologize when she saw my daughter. Also, the owner was very friendly and made sure he dropped by all of the tables to say hi. They claim to have the best breakfast in town. Can't vouch for that because I haven't eaten at every breakfast place--- but this is the best breakfast I had in a very long time. We go to BC every year for the Folk Festival and were looking for a place that opened before 9 AM--- which turned out to be more difficult than we expected. Fell upon this place and were delighted. EXCELLENT service, EXCELLENT food, and EXCELLENT presentation. We were so comfortable we didn't make it to the festival at the time we planned. Love the ambiance too. My family has been going here for years but in the last few months the quality has gone downhill and the prices have gone up. There used to be a great group of staff that were quick and friendly and remembered the preferences of regulars. They've been replaced with slow, impersonal wait staff. The quality of the food has also gone down - rotten fruit in the fruit cups , dried out english muffins in the bennies. And to top it off this restaurant used to be very kid friendly and played cartoons whenever we went, this has changed and they only play them at certain times now. We enjoyed this place in the past but will be looking for a new regular breakfast spot! read more

Sunshine Diner is a major hit for the locals in Kits- their setup and atmosphere is so unique and fun (50's dinner set up, complete with Jukebox, Booths, neon lights and life size Elvis and Monroe) and the food is DELISH. My girlfriends and I made this our usual brunch spot because of the amazing bennys available (sinatra benny etc, and my fav: the bc benny). The portions are pretty large, coffee is free-refill, the staff is awesome and (again) the food is delicious. Although, If you are health conscious, this place is not the best for you. Customer turnover is pretty quick, and the space is properly organized to seat large groups within mins, and trust me when I say, there is almost always a line up of brunchers ready and eager to enjoy what Sunshine offers. My only issue is that they will charge you on the little things, like hollandaise sauce, and they are a more expensive brunch location for whats available for Kits. read more
