A very family friendly restaurant for brunch. We came here on a late afternoon on a weekend and it wasn't too busy. We were able to get seated right away. They have high chairs as well as colouring books, crayons, and books for any littles you may have in tow. We got the 1306 Omelette and the Shrimp Benny and both were delicious. We visited Paul's place for dinner and had burgers. The burgers were super fresh and tasty. The fries were exceptionally, too. The fries looked and tasted home made, so definitely a step up from your garden variety fries and a typical burger place. HOWEVER, the thing that made our visit not great but outstanding (!) was the waiter. Never in my life have I met a so friendly, attentive and warm human being. Paul's is more service than food. The environment is welcoming, the staff are friendly and the space is bright and open. That's where the positives end. "The Zimmer" didn't taste as it should. I'll tell you why. I asked my egg to be medium done and it was soft. The bread was completely soaked, and it wasn't soaked due to ingredients....it tasted of warm water, and I can guess how that happened. When you have a dish that has poached egg, for the love of all that is culinarily sacred, drain the egg after you remove it from the boiling water. If you don't, you will transfer the pot water onto the bread with the egg, and that is what happened. So now, instead of having wonderfully crispy tasting toast carrying all those great ingredients on top of it, you have instead, leftover warm egg water from the pot on your bread. That ruined it for me. I asked for a Soy double latte extra hot and I got a single. I ordered a double latte because their house coffee is too watery and light for me. I like my coffee strong and full of body. The pancakes in the Dan Cakes dish were flat and dry unfortunately. Pancakes are supposed to be fluffy, moist and light....no? I'm sad to say, we won't be back to Paul's anymore. Regardless of how lovely the people and staff are there, the quality of the food is just too much of a let down. read more

For over 20yrs. this is one of the most loved "breakfast" spot on the busy Granville St. Flanked by art galleries, antiques stores, furniture shops and oh the equally legendary Cheesecake Etc., this part of Granville offers a unique mix of business and on a nice day you can spend a pretty interesting afternoon browsing and grabbing a bite as well when you get the munchies! I will forever have a problem paying for something to fry up my eggs. Brunch is crazy expensive, but the idea of being able to sit back and let someone else do the dishes is a-OK with me. In an area of South Granville, their small-ish eatery has grown to have quite the following. The food was solid, but I hesitate to say it was anything special. Perhaps a step up from the large chain bruncheries? The ingredients they use seem to be of high quality and fresh. I had the Sunriser which came with two eggs, two slices of bacon, half an Oktoberfest sausage, and your choice of avocado, tomato, or toast. I went with the avocado for those healthy fats. I also ordered a side of turkey sausage (1.5 links cut lengthwise) knowing the Sunriser wasn't gonna be enough for me that morning. So here's the thing... There was nothing wrong with the food itself. It was tasty. It was exactly what I ordered. However, I was still kind of disappointed. Why? $13.25 for the Sunriser and $4.25 the side of turkey sausage and I was still hungry. Luckily, my daughter ordered the pancakes and she had difficulty finishing them. Daddy duties to the rescue! While I will always have a hard time justifying brunch prices, they are no better nor worse than other similar establishments. Nestled on the north side of South Granville, an unpretentious little place serving good old-fashion but good breakfast/brunch. I have walked by Paul's Omelettery Restaurant hundreds of times and finally went in to have brunch. The weekends can be busy but less so for weekdays. No reservations accepted on the weekends and holidays. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, and lots of locals. Very clean inside. Washrooms are located on the upper level so take the stairs. Paid meter parking on the immediate side streets but walk a few blocks either east or west and you'll find the 2 hour free parking spaces. My friend who lives in the neighborhood says the Omelettes are delicious and well known, however, I was in the mood for Eggs Benny and elected the Florentine (Mushrooms of Shiitake/Oyster/Button & Spinach all sauteed with garlic and onion ). My friend had the Dan Cake (2 pancakes and Oktoberfest sausage and was able to substitute the eggs for a berry compost). Coffee was not strong as I like it to be but fair enough for the day. If you are seeking traditional good old-fashioned breakfast/brunch food then look no further on South Granville. My only comment is for the server to be a bit more attentive. We waited 15 minutes to order when she said she'll be back in a minute and it wasn't even busy. read more

Old school layout leaves nothing to fine dining or typical brunch places post-1979. This is why -1 rating...also poor first experience: Food! Obviously the most important point. I dined here years ago, and as it's called an "omelet" place, I ordered a veggie omelet. Was not good and did not go back for 20+ years. My old roommate swore by this place, but as a former breakfast line cook, I was appalled by the watery, bitter dreck that was served to me. HOWEVER: I recently moved back into the neighborhood and found myself hungry nearby after an early morning Dr appointment. I was not optimistic since they claim to serve Benny's with "cheese sauce" instead of "Hollandaise". Boy was I wrong!!! I ordered smoked salmon bennys with a side of turkey sausage (yes, in the years since, I took up eating poultry, I always ate fish). What came out was beautiful and delicious and very rustic vibe. Nicely poached eggs, a scint but ok amount of smoked salmon, and a decent amount of "cheese sauce" (what kind of cheese I don't know bc was similar in flavour profile to Hollandaise, but clumpier & my sauce had broken). I chased my obligatory coffee with an apple-rhubarb juice (say whaaaat???? I LOVE anything rhubarb), and it was soooo good, it has me craving coming back again & again. Staff are friendly, the table comes with many condiments, including local hot sauce, and the bathrooms are clean (tho dimly lit). Recommend? Yes! Just don't get an omelette. Can't vouch for lunch items, not my thing with brunch choices. Parking: side streets maybe a block or two back on 8-6th ave's is free if you shop around. Definitely no parking in front. So shop around for the free parking. Note: I have dined here 2X in the past year, and with coffee, juice, and my breakfast my meal is over $60 w/o tip. Be warned, it's not cheap. Hopefully just a one off but wont be ordering from here again. The french toast was really good but the eggs Benedict was truly disappointing. The amount of potatoes was like 1/4 of a potato and they didn't taste good at all, there was no seasoning on anything and the hollandaise sauce tasted like water and there was hardly any. We had a terrific breakfast at Paul's Omelettery. It has been many years since we've been to Paul's. Fortunately they did not have a lineup when we went for brunch on Sunday. The restaurant was very busy but our server Charlie #2 was very efficient. She took very good care of us, took our order, delivered out food quickly and refilled my husband's coffee. She was so pleasant and has a lovely demeanor even although she was run off her feet. We were in and out within an hour. You can order 1/2 orders of eggs benedict. I really appreciate this as I find a full order just too much. I had the Florentine benny. It was perfect with spinach, mushroom, onion and garlic. The egg was also perfectly cooked, nice and runny the way I liked it not overdone. My husband had a shrimpmeat sand with a side of yam fries. His sandwich was also very good with generous amounts of shrimp and bacon. The yam fries were nice and crisp. He generously shared his yam fries with me. Paul's Omelettery was a perfect way to start our Sunday. We would most definitely return. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food and the terrific service. read more

So happy to see that Paul's has survived the pandemic so far! We used to frequent the restaurant all the time when in the neighborhood and before Covid. Happy to report that other than the partitions between tables and frequent sanitation none of the goodness has been lost. Cozy busy room still especially on weekends but we only had to wait 2 mins to get a clean table on Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Super friendly long term staff here shows that they must treat people well and this is reflected in their service. As for food I always get either a BLT or burger as I'm a sandwich lover, breakfast foods not so much. The BLT is great, not skimpy on the bacon and plenty of mayo which I love. Ask for the fries as a side to share there are plenty for a couple. Paul's makes a mean Caesar too, although the mimosas tempted me to change up my order next time. I don't eat eggs so can't comment on the omelettes sorry ! I'd recommend Paul's for a non pretentious, friendly place to fill your tummy to anyone. read more

The eggs benny came with a "cheese sauce" instead of a typical hollandaise, which I was intrigued by, but ended up being tasteless and I would have much rather preferred a typical hollandaise. The potatoes were good, however I wish that there was more of them as they were quite sparse with their portion size. The best part of the food was the pancake - this was delicious! It tasted like a vanilla cake and was perfectly fluffy. The food and ambiance at this spot were mediocre, but what really put me off from Paul's Omelettery was the service. While all the staff were rambunctious and loud, I found our particular waiter to be quite rude. When he asked for our drink order, I didn't want a drink and instead wanted to order our breakfast but as soon as I started listing my order he cut me off, saying that he had specifically asked for my drink order only in a sassy tone and walking away. When he came back for our food orders, I asked about the "cheese sauce" (since most eggs benny's come with hollandaise sauce so I was curious to see what this was) and he simply said that it's not hollandaise and left it at that. An oddly classy brunch spot in a not oddly classy neighbourhood. What particularly stood out to me was water in a wine glass. The menus have plenty of breakfast items to choose from, and the service was reasonably quick at lunch time. I ordered the Denver Omlette ($13.50) being told that it was the most popular Omlette on the menu. The cheese in the Omlette was tasty, but the veggies seemed a tad bit undercooked. Th dish just didn't seem that memorable for being the most popular item at the restaurant. It was filling though! Can I give this place 6 stars?! It was actually a happy accident that I ended up dining here for a Sunday brunch. I tried to go check out a different place on Broadway but they didn't have single diner seating so I searched Yelp for the nearest other option and found this little place on Granville... did not disappoint! I got seated at the bar right away! The menu was huge with plates, bennies, sandwiches, specialty omelettes and lunch options too. Decided on the Blackstone Benny (bacon + tomato) with home fries in the end and it was perfect! They use cheese sauce instead of your standard hollandaise which adds some unique notes. But the winner for me was the runny-ness of the eggs - not too much, not too little! I would definitely recommend adding their Jamaican style hot sauce to your dish if you're okay with a little sweet spice! It really elevated the flavours for me. They were packed when I arrived with a line for pairs and groups so I'd suggest going early and getting your name in if you're in a group as they don't do reservations. Service is quick though, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and food comes out fast so once you're in you're good to go! I'm definitely coming back again! I've driven by this place countless times and most of the time, there is a lineup outside. My bf and I came here on a late weekend afternoon and I was seated almost right away. The hostess was nice. I had questions about rear parking and she opened the kitchen back door to show me where my bf could park. Service is meh. There is an older gentleman, who goes around talking a lot. He likes to joke with the kids. You can tell the servers enjoy their job because they're chatting with each other and singing. However, we thought service could be more attentive. The server went around some table asking about the meal, but never came to ours. I sat there with the bill and credit card and it took a while before the server came with the machine. After paying, the server didn't come collect the receipt or say thank you. We paid, left the machine on the table, and walked out. Food is decent. The menu is extensive and prices are reasonable. I like that the food isn't heavily seasoned, but at the same time, it was very "one note". I like omelettes that are slightly runny, but the texture of this omelette was slightly rubbery. The best part of the meal was the toast. Overall, a decent meal, but we wouldn't lineup for it. read more

There was quite a bit of hype about this place amongst my friends while we were trying to decide on a place for brunch. Since none of us had actually tried it before, we decided to stop by to see if it lived up to its reputation. Although it offered a solid meal, I can't really say that it impressed me very much. We were a bigger group so we had to wait a bit for our table but that also gave us the chance to try a variety of dishes off the menu. We had the seafood benedict, the da vinci omelette, the huevos rancheros, and the corned beef hash. The best dishes were the huevos rancheros and the corned beef hash which had the most flavour and was the most filling. I found that the hollandaise sauce for the benedict was a bit weak making this dish bland overall. The omlette was an upgrade from something you could get at a chain breakfast restaurant but there wasn't anything mind blowing about it. I don't think that the food was worth the long wait or the trek out to this area. However, the interior was adorable and it does have free parking (only a couple spots though) at the back so it's a great place to stop by if you're in the mood for something homely. read more

It's been a while since I last visited Paul's Place Omelettery (five years I think). This busy breakfast spot is located just south of the Granville Street bridge and serves up some pretty tasty meals. As it was a cold November morning when we visited, we started off with a big mug of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. For our meals, we opted for the Denver Omelette filled with ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, red peppers, cheddar, and edam cheese. Normally, it also includes cream cheese but you can opt out of that (which we did). When I read their menu, I got fixated on the Zimmer ($10.75) because it was served on marble rye... love marble rye! The Zimmer includes sliced avocado, sprouts, cheese sauce, and a soft poached egg (cue the runny yolk picture). Loved how the marble rye had the right amount of chew to it and the runny yolk was perfect. I feel like the avocado would have been better if it was mashed up though. Overall, a fairly solid breakfast joint. read more
