I wish I could give a half star since I feel it's a 2 1/2 in my opinion. I came here during New Jersey's Yelp restaurant week. I received a 30% off $25 (makes it $18.50). It was not stated in the yelp event page that this place requires a $25 minimum. I would not have ventured all the way over to Jersey and pay the tolls to try Sunshine Grill. Logistics: parking lot, right off the highway, ugly part of town, very small lunch counter with some tables, Not fancy, they have bathrooms, close by 4. They were all really friendly and never made me feel rushed even though it was close to closing time. As for the food I started with a -chocolate shake which was perfect consistency and temperature. They even brought me a lid in case I didn't finish it there. -The Volcano (what I came here for) : 2 cheeseburgers with Siracha and bacon sandwich between 2 grilled Sandwiches. Very hard to eat. Grilled cheese aka fake food is my favorite thing so how could I not just try this. It was huge, nicely plated but the Burgers were kinda dried out. The grilled cheese's were cooked perfect but sogged up from the siracha doused Burgers. Easy on Siracha guy and add a pickle, now we're talkin. I also ordered a -Chicken Caesar Salad to go since it was the only thing on the menu that would travel. The chicken was cooked fresh and it was came in a salad bowl made for mixing and shaking in. $10 I would've never ordered a salad to go but I wanted my 30% off darn it! In all honesty I will never return but it appears from a lot of the clientele and phone orders that people living or working in the area frequent it. I just don't think of this as a destination restaurant but rather a quick breakfast or lunch spot for those nearby. read more

In my opinion the best place for breakfast in the area. The staff is always incredible the food is always the same. I have tried the entire menu and would eat two of each if I could. they specialize in take out but I love to go there to eat breakfast and sometimes lunch by myself. Don't know where to begin. When I moved to Edison almost 20 years ago this place was amazing. New ownership took over probably about 10 years ago maybe (not sure on the timeline) and it has gone downhill. Food quality has gone down, wasn't terrible but the old owner had better food. I stopped ordering after they messed my order up 3 times in a row, which shouldn't happen at all because it is not hard to take an order. Especially when the order is straightforward without changing a bunch of things. Order 2 orders of French toast sticks for my kids and get only 1, order home fries and get French fries instead without letting me know, and I can't recall the final order which made me not want to go here anymore. Anyway, I felt like a breakfast sandwich and just placed an order for delivery and was called by the restaurant informing me that I don't answer my door and they have a hard time getting paid by me, which is pure bullshit. I usually pick my orders up in the first place and am always here to receive any order from any restaurant and also tip generously because I used to deliver when I was younger. Who calls someone and says stuff like that when they literally can't take an order correctly? Clearly this place has no idea what it means to be in the service industry and the woman taking orders and accusing others of false accusations has no grasp on reality. I do not wish bad things on others but if this place closed for good tomorrow I would not be surprised. Hire competent staff and maybe your business would do better. read more

Stopped in for breakfast while traveling along the Turnpike. Small, local grill with huge meals. Kids had a burger and chicken parm sandwich (they both devoured) and the adults had omelets and eggs/pancakes. The plates were huge; nobody finished. Very good. Tried it out here two different times for two different meals. The first was for breakfast and we ate in. We were barely acknowledged and the girl taking the order had no idea what was going on. The table next to us had to repeat what they wanted about three times. I ordered two eggs over easy, bacon, and hash browns. Nothing about that meal was enjoyable. The seats were old, the table was wobbly and sticky, the cook and the staff arguing, the waitresses hating every second of being there, and the food was terrible! The hash browns tasted just like freezer and were cold in the middle, the eggs were like kind of over easy but raw, and the bacon soggy like from the microwave. I barely ate my breakfast and we left. Second attempt was hubby begging me since they were the only deli that delivers. I ordered a turkey club which comes with French fries. Sunshine is literally 5 min drive down the street. We waited for an hour and had to call for an update. The food came and it was COLD. The fries were so cold I had to throw them out. And again the whole turkey club tasted like freezer! I got the veggie omelette and my Lady had the mushroom omelette. both were great, well cooked and home fries were great. Helpful staff and nice atmosphere. You can tell it's a stapled place in the neighborhood, and they are attentive to their clients. i'm from NY, and will try to come back to try their wide selection of food choices. As a muslim and as a vegetarian, i was horrified when i ordered a broccoli & cheese omelet, and got a BACON, broccoli and cheese omelet instead. There were home fries in my to-go container and thought thats what was on the omelet that was crispy/darker looking so i took a bite and spit it right out. The woman answering the phones sounds completely miserable! Every time we call it is if she is bothered by us ordering. My order was wrong and I received a long sigh "Well that is not what was put down." and "Well I have to wait for our drivers, so it will be a while." She sounds like she just hates her job. Other than that no complaints about the food and the delivery time is usual pretty fast. But the customer service is less than desired. Edit: Reply to owner Dear Patti, I wouldn't need free food if the order was correct. Instead of taking ownership that the order was incorrect you instead accuse me of stealing free food. There are a lot of bigger problems in the world other than pancakes, if we all just took accountability the world would be a better place. I ordered the short stack of pancakes with bacon and hash browns and my fiance ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast quesadilla and turkey bacon. The hash browns were very bland and the bacon was really thick and sticky (seemed like it was maybe coated in syrup or something, but it did not taste good at all). My pancakes weren't horrible, but were basically the quality you would expect if you bought pancake mix and made them at home. They were also very pale and when I make pancakes (or order them) I prefer a golden color. The quesadilla was just nothing special according to my fiance and there was not much bacon at all, just mostly egg and cheese. The turkey bacon was pretty good and the delivery was fast. If I give this place another shot, it DEFINITELY won't be for breakfast. So disappointed. read more

One of those small places you would love to find, but rarely come across. Appears to be family run so they treat all their customers will high respect and a sense of southern hospitality. The good: - food is great, their famous stuffed burgers are amongst some of the best burgers I've tried in NJ - guacamole and chips are homemade and you can taste the difference (amazingly fresh and chips are freshly cooked!) - prices are great ($10-$16) per person for food, drink & small appetizer - staff is ultra friendly For consideration: - service is quick but the restaurant is very busy, might be difficult to find seating during peak hours - bathrooms are a bit cramped but cleanly kept Overall, would recommend to anyone willing to try a local place with high quality food. read more

Stumbled onto this little gem while on our return leg of a road trip. Our old standby Pantagis Diner had closed up shop across from our hotel, so we cast about for a new breakfast joint to try. Up the street we found just what we wanted. The coffee was hot and the food served up to order. We enjoyed a Rise and Shine breakfast wrap (thumbs up for the spicy sweet salsa dip) and a traditional veggie omelet. There were roughly a half dozen tables and as many barstools at a counter, so not really a place for a big group.
