Oh wow. Where to start? I was brought in and just dumped off in my room. I couldn't reach the call…read morebutton and had to ask my roommate to hit theirs. The food is sub par and help is non existent. I hit my button I don't know how many times and it takes forever to get someone to come. I usually ended up having to yell to get attention. That made them mad. They were always messing up my medications and I had to carefully check them each time I got them. I received someone else's more than once! The place is pretty old and there's nothing to do to stay busy or be stimulated, like some kind of activity, game or crossword-like things to do. I was at another place where they had fun stuff almost daily to help keep my mind off of my troubles. This place is like a tomb. You can't even go outside without needing help to open the doors. I counted the days until I was free of that place. Never again will I go there. I'd rather go to the Pines or that really bad one in Auburn than get stuck here again. Also, social services was a complete joke. They couldn't figure their way out of a wet paper bag. No help there at all! If you have a choice, skip this one. It's terrible. I can't help but feel very sorry for those who are stuck living there permanently.

They're closing the elevators down for seven weeks and expecting the elderly who are in wheelchairs and walkers to stay in their rooms and they will provide them food. It's an accident waiting to happen thank God I'm yanking my mother out. Yes it is for gold country senior living I think I know where my mother lives !!! While it seems to be normal for caregiver turnover (especially during the Covid years), the vast majority of those caregivers were gentle, loving and genuinely loved what they do. We all made many friends of the staff, even the kitchen staff and med techs. The facility is well maintained, clean, attractive and orderly at all times. The setting up on a hill in the Sierra Foothills in north Auburn is wonderful and quite convenient and easily reached just off I80 and State Highway 49 in the California Gold Country. The rooms are either private or semi-private, so residents can feel independent Many of the administration staff were also very kind. The housekeeping director and staff were very responsive and nice. Even the maintenance staff were so helpful and compassionate. The activities director labors tirelessly to provide many enrichment activities for the residents. The receptionists are also very nice. Even the business manager is very compassionate and she attended mom's Celebration of Life. We were very appreciative of that. While expensive as it is everywhere, our mom's experience was quite good. Many staff expressed their love for our mom to us after she passed away. We were very touched by them all. Our family recommends Oakwood Village for senior care.

Residents who complain of pain are told they are "faking" it or just attention-seeking. One supervisor and several "caregivers" stated their belief that one resident, newly admitted, didn't actually have Alzheimer's, but was just pretending to have it. They screamed at her regularly, to the point where you could hear the yelling (by the staff) from the other end of the building. If you have to admit your loved one into memory care here, I strongly recommend putting cameras in the room. Or better yet, just don't do it. Find somewhere else. Anywhere. The residents are treated like obstacles that have to be avoided while collecting paychecks.

It was a challenging decision, but we are now blessed to have made that difficult decision. Over the year and a half, my Mom has been able to make friends, enjoy the many activities and most importantly, gain confidence in the care staff that provides her medications, check in with her on a regular basis and provide for her daily needs. I met Melody Powers, Resident Relations Specialist who coordinated this birthday event. She was warm, friendly and actively engaging with each resident. I could tell by the way each resident lit up as she approached them, that this senior living was a happy, caring, and loving home for all! I was blessed to be a part of this and to meet Melody and see first hand her interact and spread her love and happiness! The home was also clean and a feeling of warmth throughout!
