I rarely leave reviews but I just have to report what a beautiful job Ashley did today. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Salon Medusa! This was my first visit and it will definitely not be my last. Ashley's years of color expertise and careful listening skills left me with the most gorgeous hair I have had in years. The salon is small and private and looks out upon a beautiful courtyard with orchids and other lovely plants. Because it is a small salon there is no noise or chitter chatter going on in the background from other stylists or customers which led to a very calm and relaxing experience. What a hidden gem I have stumbled upon! I moved here about a year ago and have been on the hunt for an organic salon and a fantastic hairdresser. I have very thick hair that takes experience to cut. After a year without a haircut, my hair was heavy, unmanageable, and the ends were terrible! This is a husband and wife, adorable small space with it's own patio in Carmel-by-the-Sea. They were finishing up when I arrived and I sat on the patio for a couple of minutes while I waited. Dallas did my hair. He did a great job of getting an idea what I was looking for, and took the time to explain the different ways he could get to my goal. I had the pleasure of being a first-time walk-in client at Medusa this past weekend. I have never had a guy cut my hair before and have had some pretty talented female hairstylists handle my locks. But let me tell you, no one will make you feel as comfortable as I felt with Dallas. My regular stylist is in Palo Alto but I visit Carmel regularly on the weekends. I'm tempted to just ditch my other stylist all together. Dallas knew exactly how to cut my hair (naturally curly but can straighten easily with hair dryer). I can't say enough about the special care and attention he offers his clients. You definitely will leave there feeling fulfilled and complete. Down a typical Carmel-by-the-Sea alley, is the adorable little salon of Medusa. Full of natural light coming from a darling little patio with natural wood benches, Dallas performs his styling magic in this quaint salon. Two chairs, and one comfortable bowl for washing (more on this later), adds to the experience. Yes, it is an experience not just a regular appointment. After an unfortunate cut elsewhere, I read reviews, took a deep breath and gave Dallas a call. He answered, immediately, had a moment to listen to my tale of woe, then booked me for a redo of my "poordo". He did a dry cut, after assessing my hair, and then washed it. The shampoo alone was an experience. The bowl has a lovely neck guard and the basin itself has a hydraulic action, moving it to a comfortable position as you move down in the chair. Dallas stands behind the bowl as opposed to the side so you get the best shampooing ever. It has been a few years since I have had the relaxing massage like this! What a difference from the usual "shampoo from the side" action! Now for the end result! Dallas blew my hair dry with very little product, and he uses organic products! I am very sensitive and I seem to always have some slight itching. It has been almost 12 hours and not an itch! I love my cut even though he had to take it up quite a bit to even it up. As I walked back through town making stops along the way, I had a lot of positive comments! If you live in the Peninsula area or coming for a stay from out of town, don't hesitate to book an appointment with Dallas. I loved the fact he told me not to worry about seeing him for a few months, to let it grow so it can be styled like I had originally wanted before the "not-so-good-cut". She always knows what to do whether you explain it or show her a picture, she always lets you know if something is not a good idea (chemical wise or due to the health of your hair already), she looks out for you in a good way =) Ashley has cut, colored, styled and transformed my looks throughout the years, I live in Oakland and I still come out to see her when I can! While I personally haven't had my hair touched by Dallas =( I have had a couple of family members that did and only had good things to say about him. Ashley is a hair fairy. I have long, thick, dark hair. She is able to manage the volume of hair without breaking a sweat. She does natural highlights for me and I often get compliments because people assume it's my natural highlights. She is beyond ready for COVID accommodations. I hadn't had a hair cut since January 2020! Ashley gave me a trim, (shame free) and I got a blow out, another thing I haven't done because I tore my rotator cuff and had surgery. It was such a treat! I am going to get regular blow outs from Ashley because I'm still not able to reach my arm up. It felt so amazing. I have to agree with everyone else here about how awesome Ashley is- both as a person and as a stylist. My long frizzy/curly hair was a mess and hadn't been cut, since the start of covid (the one stylist I trusted disappeared). Though I was extremely fearful and emotional about cutting off my length, Ashley was very patient and encouraging as she gave me a great cut and options for dealing with my "textured" hair. Another really great thing about Ashley is that she doesn't suggest other treatments and services and then make you feel bad about yourself and your hair, if you don't partake of everything she offers.
